How to Cook on a Cast Iron Griddle

  • Our reversible cast iron griddle spans two burners and allows you to cook multiple foods all on the same surface! Here's how to make a tasty breakfast on a Lodge Cast Iron griddle.
    1. Heat both sides of your griddle to medium-low. If one burner is larger than the other, it may need to be turned down for even heat.
    2. Heat your griddle for 8 minutes; use this opportunity to prep!
    3. To test the temperature of your griddle, sprinkle with water. Water sizzles at medium heat.
    4. Apply oil, butter or mayonnaise to your food. If cooking toast, mayonnaise gives the bread a nice golden-brown.
    5. Cook toast on each side for 1.5 minutes.
    6. Cook sausage for 3 minutes or until it is brown halfway through before flipping. If your meat is bouncy, let is sit. If it is firm, it’s good to go.
    7. For eggs, add oil to your griddle (if you like). Cook for 2 minutes, then flip. Top with cheddar, if you like. Eggs are done in 2 minutes.

I have used mine on the grill for over 15 years, grill, scrape, brush, flip and burn to sterilize. It's self seasoning in a grill environment and I believe my grill has lasted longer as a result. Pay no regard to pan texture comments for you want juices to have a cozy place to percolate your tasty bomb.

I like Lodges cast iron cooking gear, and from bread pans, civil war bean pots, grills, top stove grills, frying pans. I got them all. It is great cooking with cast iron. It is not only cooking with them, it is the memories of camping, hunting, home cooking in the fifties, sixties etc.

I purchased an Emeril branded Lodge cast iron griddle several years ago. Works like a charm! Thanks for the video. Cook toast last for best results. Picks up sausage flavor and grease and thus uses less butter. Cheers!

What about the grill/grooved side? Food gets in those grooves and is difficult to get out, right? What am I doing wrong? Or is that just what happens on the groove side? I have a Lodge brush. I brush and brush and brush until *most* of the food is gone, then I bake the water off and then spread oil on it. Is that leftover burnt on food going to poison me? Still LOVE this thing, but curious about frequent users and the groove side?

Hi Don, for tough messes, we recommend using our Grill Pan Scraper. It's designed solely for this purpose and will work with all Lodge Grill Pans except the Single Burner Reversible Grill/Griddle. You can find it here: shop.lodgemfg.com/indoor-accessories/grill-pan-scrapers.asp

Definitely add oil to the griddle for eggs. Your fried egg will become scrambled otherwise...

    • @frankpichardo5299
      @frankpichardo5299 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

forevermarkel It gets better with use, but it does need a little grease. Although I remember back in Mexico we used to make “huevo asado” which means “grilled egg”...no fat added, however the griddles used at farm houses are coated with lime, it looks white. I remember all people did is add salt then the egg...and flipped with their bare hands. 😉

Look at Goodwill or Savers you will find cast iron , don’t forget buy at Goodwill spend 25$ or more get coupon online save 20%, even if it’s expired the will take 20% off, shop for cast iron look for cracks but if it’s rusty nasty with grease still buy it look up on TH-cam on how to clean cast iron it’s easy.
I brought a nice 80 year old Dry -Fry Griddle 11”X19 for 7 dollars.
I first washed it with Bars Keeper Friend cleaner took most of the crud off dried it and oiled it with Grape seed oil then put it on out door gas grill about 1 hour high heat smokes a lot use a flat scraper to get the ash off let it cool off a bit use blue shop towels and LIGHT coats of grape seed oil or Coconut oil to wipe down till cloth is clean. First thing to cook in cast iron BACON this will put a good deep oil finish on your cast iron.
To clean hot water scrub brush or 3M green pad I don’t use dish soap then put it back on stove get it warm re oil then store it.
Don’t forget to donate your items you don’t use any more to Goodwill..........One one persons junk is another ones treasure.

    • @lodgecastiron

@@furiousphoenix7526 We use soap when needed. After each use, wash, dry, and rub down with a thin layer of cooking oil, and store in a dry place. You do not have to bake your cookware in the oven after each use--only when your seasoning needs to be replenished.
