    Cast Iron is honestly very easy to work with, once you understand HOW to work with it. Even if you have a rusty cast iron that needs to be restored, you can fix it at home with minimal tools. Then season your pots, pans, skillets, and other cast iron pieces perfectly to a nice glossy finish.

    I’m with you. My Loving Mom, always cooked everything on Cast Iron. She knew what she was doing too. We still have her fry pans & none ever had rust. Of course, Mom told my twin sister & I, “Never Wash Cast Iron”. She never did either. But, she sure did rub the heck out of those pans each time she cooked, with Crisco & napkins & later paper towels. Interesting, we were never Iron Deficient nor Anemic 🩸
    . I’ll never forget, she really didn’t “wash these pans” & they never rusted... ever!

    if you want this Cast Iron Griddle or Legend Griddle 10X20 to work well. use olive oil for the first time. let it soak for 30 min. then add another thin layer of either vegetable or olive oil then place it in a preheated oven for 1 hour at 450 -500 deg.
    there is nothing absolutely nothing like cooking on cast iron.
    after you're done cooking. boil some hot water with a bit of kosher salt. let it sit for 10 min that will remove all leftovers.

    Finally got one ordered. my large cast iron skillet that has been handed down for generations is too heavy for me these days (and I don't need the added oil hee-hee,) so I needed to know how to season the griddle before it arrives. I have no children to pass on the skillets to 3 sizes,) but once I am comfortable with the griddle I will see if a niece would like the set.

    But how can the iron get through layers of seasoning and into food? Has anyone tested the iron content in food after cooking with CI, or is it an assumption that if your cooking on iron you somehow get supplemented? Thanks for demonstrating seasoning. I see you put a minimum coat of oil on, which is recommended.some do the additional seasoning twice on new cast iron.

The food will stick to the metal. .Take an electric sander, and sand it smooth, and re season. You will have a nonstick surface

    • @VansWorld

    Thanks for the seasoning advice. The old stories about getting iron in you from cooking on iron don't really seem credible. Maybe if you ate the rust that forms on a wet iron griddle you would get iron oxide (the red rust stuff) but iron itself, not unless you ground up the iron into iron filings and thats not likely unless you grind the surface...

    • @moolate127
      @moolate127 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually new studies have proven you get some iron in your food mainly if you cook acidic foods in it. The process is called acid etching, quite literally dissolving microscopic amounts of iron into the food from the acid. You don't get a whole lot of iron from it but it does work.

    • @jamesaroeuett1567
      @jamesaroeuett1567 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get trace amounts of iron but it's mostly from unseasoned iron or cooking with acidic foods that remove the seasoning. The layers of seasoning prevent iron from leeching into the food. Regardless, cooking with cast iron is not a good way to increase iron intake.
