    Answers to common questions:
    - The Titan 70 has MIDI capabilities, and it can be used as a controller. I don't personally use MIDI, so it was not something I tested or demoed.
    - You can put the snare drum on a stand of its own.
    - Any e-kit with a wide enough kick pad can accommodate a double bass pedal, including this one.
    - The original Simmons brand closed their doors in 1999, but was revived by Guitar Center in 2006. You can learn more about their history here simmonsdrums.net/history/

    Just to clarify for those talking about the brand’s continuity, the Simmons of today has no relation to the principals who founded the hexagonal pads and groundbreaking modules of the 80s and 90s. Guitar Center bought and revived the name about a decade ago.

      Yes… same people .. kind of.. Guitar Centers, Musicians Friend bought out Simmons for lack of a better business word to form this drum e kit offering.

      Actually Dave Simmons has been back helping in development since 2017. Hence the hex pads on the sd2000. The past two lines of kits they’ve come out with have been way better than their older offerings when he wasn’t with Simmons. Really hopefully for the future of this company, though I don’t love guitar center…

      Same here. I just watched this review trying to keep up with the new gear. I was in fact very informative and the pace was really easy to follow, so congratulations to Adam. About the kit itself, it looks like a good deal, especially considering the number of pads; some snare sounds are nice too! And I really like those blue pads :) The bluetooth audio connectivity should be a must for any e-kit these days. I know I miss it in my current kit. Anyway, thanks for the review. Cheers

    I am not a big fan of the cymbal sounds (imo the most difficult thing to get right in a edrum module), but I have to say for under 1k, especially the snare and kick sounds are quite nice. a few of those snares sound better than the ones on a roland td 30 I played the last time :D

      I can say for sure I thought my Titan 50 sounded better than the SD1250 I just took back for a refund. But that’s just my opinion.. that’s the reason I bought the Titan 70.. it’s basically the same with a better module, more preset kits and a great OS app set up especially at this price point.

  • @brettmarlar4154
    @brettmarlar4154 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Well, to be fair, Simmons is one of the original e-kit manufacturers. So it should come to no surprise that it would sound and feel good. I'm sure the plastic hardware bits can be replaced with metal if one would want to gig with it.
    I just wonder if the module will handle any expansions should one want more pieces.

  • @jas_bataille
    @jas_bataille ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Not surprising considering they were the first ever to make e-drums. Slow and steady development wins the race! With silent stages and in-ears becoming the norm, I could see me and many other working drummers getting this for some of our gigs even. It sounds good, look good, and can always trigger any MIDI samples we could ever want through a MIDI interface and a laptop! You can always upgrade the cymbals and mounting hardware anyway. Hard to beat the value for a cool set of pads as well!

  • @acerbt
    @acerbt ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I recently got to test out this kit at a local Guitar Center and I love it. From what I was able to gather, the interface should not be that hard for blind people like myself to work with, considdering that the screens are text only and there are proper push buttons instead of touch controls. Maybe the app could work as well but I'm willing to bet that it isn't very well built to work with Voiceover on iOS.

    • @AdamTuminaro
      @AdamTuminaro  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m certain the interface was not made with “blind people” in mind; nor would any product be, unless for that specific purpose. Right? Kind of like complaining that it wasn’t made for people without arms.

    • @acerbt
      @acerbt ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is true. Accessibility for the blind is kind of like a scale of sorts when it comes to software and hardware. Some things such as mixing boards should natively be accessible because of the nature of the sliders, nobs, etc, but once touch controls are put in the equation, what ever the device is most likely won't work unless features are added. Some apps have the ground work to be screen reader accessible, with properly made system level controls that may or may not have good labels, but some are made in such ways that a screen reader can't read anything in the app at all. Yamaha apps have tended to be mustly usable over the years even if not intentionally. The touch and graphics implementations are what keep me away from the high end keyboards and drum systems.

      It would be true to agree with this.. but I’ve owned the Titan 50 and I can say this 70 has to be a real smile maker. It is not the kit you buy for life.. Roland would be.. but a kit to get it on with in the evening when you don’t want to bother anybody… (?) this is your kit. Sounds outstanding through good headphones and really great against the music with Bluetooth audio.. yes this guy makes em sound great but they can’t sound great if they sound bad.. these Simmons Titans sound great and feel pretty good too.

  • @paulbfields8284

    This is probably the best presentation of this kit available anywhere on You Tube. I just sold my Titan 50 last month after 11 months..Bought a brand new Simmons sD1250. Had it two weeks I thought it played very well, the hardware was far superior, the size of the skins at 12” snare and all 10” Tom’s was really nice and the cymbals were larger and felt better. The module was really nice w color led screen…. But… it wasn’t near as fun to play as the 50 nor did it have rimshot detection on the snare.. a huge buzz kill. So I just got refunded from GC and getting ready to order the 70.. it’s not what I really want but I can’t afford that so I know what this 70 kit will get me… sound satisfaction. I’d rather have smaller targets that sound good versus large targets that don’t sound near as good IMO.. the 70 will satisfy my need to play loud while the Mrs and dig are sleeping upstairs.. the 50 was great with Bluetooth and a pair of headphones.. it rocks and feels pretty damn good for a small target budget kit.. my 70 should be here this week.

Those two add ons should make this a solid kit. Any time under a $1000 you can’t expect anywhere near Roland quality, I played a set of $3400 Roland’s and yes.. they are really nice.. but this is a fraction of that cost and I’m not leaving the basement, my band days are behind me and this purchase is just for me.. they should be here in the next two days.. looking forward

    I was just in the market for electric drums and was considering this set but I ended up going for the Alesis surge mesh kit special edition cause it came with a mesh kick drum instead of just a pad. It was also like 300$ cheaper, considering I’m just starting I didn’t wanna spend too much for extra cymbals and toms I wouldn’t even use for at least a couple months lol. The best thing I’ve bought tho is a practice pad it’s been helping me keep a consistent rhythm. I use it whenever I’m watching tv and just practice rudiments.

    having plastic hardware in the exact points that will be taking the most stress from hitting is a bit of a red flag, ive had cheap metal hardware frequently fail in those locations (typically cast aluminum). the cymbal angle adjustment seems like a cross threading nightmare and that it would wear very quickly from playing and adjusting, and where the metal posts connect into the plastic for the tom mounts could also be a bad wear point. especially if the metal is textured

I do most of my practice on the ekit but occasionally jump on the acoustic so I don't forget how that feels. It has some great functionality and some really good tones, but at the same time is missing some things and more drum variety. It’s a fun kit to play. The stock kick pedal is garbage, but what drummer doesn’t have a few sitting around. And if ur a new player, the stock kick is fine. It just doesn’t have that special something the the Roland kit of similar value has.

    Nice video, I usually tell people to stay away from the junk companies sell for under a thousand.... but this might be the exception. The fact that all you need is a throne says a lot about the attitude behind the making/marketing of this kit. Most of my friends have two kids, i have two kits. You can imagine how nice my drum kits are having saved all that money by not buying diapers or sending anyone to school. I can't express enough how grand it is to have a custom built acoustic beauty that i can rock out on and is louder than earthquake thunder. With that said, in house at any given hour, I use my electronic kit with high quality headphones pretty much always. So if you've been on the fence but don't have much money go get this kit cause it is more fun than you can imagine, BUT if you have a couple more thousand to spare ....go with the Roland upper grades, you won't be sorry. Super quality sounds and durability unmatched. Sorry I always seem to over share in comments I'm passionate about. Thanks Adam and nice drumming skills.

    First let me say you made an excellent video. I purchased a SD 1200 2 years ago. I bought the then expansion kit. Now this has more metal and less plastic. The kit didn’t include a kick pedal for the kick drum but other than that everything was included ( yes even the drum sticks lol) I simply haven’t had the time to fool around with it much to be honest but for the money I don’t think it could be beaten. Now mine has a separate stand for the snare. I would say just by your review this module appears to be better. So here’s a question. Do you think a new module could be ordered and do a plug and play? Hello! Loving your content! I ended up with a black friday sale Titan 70 - and wondered if you had any issues that I am having - particularly when trying to utilize the expansion ports? Or when trying to integrate a Lemon 3 zone ride (that you may already know how to do)? First - the manual I downloaded said exp1 and exp2 ports were assignable as "dual zone" inputs, for dual zone pads and for splitting to two single zone pads from one jack - or - it said you could assign the exp ports to be a "cymbal / crash" (allowing cymbal chokes to be interpreted). However, when trying the expansion ports, with simmons or other brands, they could not be set to understand/use chokes. Do you still have your Titan 70, to see if you have this issue? Or if you can figure out using the Lemon ride instead of the stock one, via the stock 3 zone with choke ride cable snake, or via one or two of the exp ports? And a bit deeper - if you succeeded with the lemon, but needed both exp ports to utilize it's 3 zones and choke, what are the capabilities of the simmons ride cymbal jack from the module snake? Are there any other e cymbal types/brands that you know of, that can fully utilize its 3 way plus choke - or maybe can it be split to two crashes with choke (is this a potential cable that can support two crashes somehow, where one's choke sensor could choke either crash, yet both crashes have seperate assignable cymbal sounds? - I believe I saw this is one of your videos for a different module, a happy accident trying cable splits and extra cymbals, apologies if that was someone else)?

If it’s the kind of thing you’re picky about in all kits, you should measure your ideal Tom height on your own kit, and compare against the manufacturer’s specs. You’ll never have to guess what works and what doesn’t.

    Did GC/Simmons send, this to you 1-1 1/2 months ago? As a reviewer/influencer, is GC or Simmons paying you for your review? Just in the context of openess.
    I liked your review though.

    • @AdamTuminaro
      @AdamTuminaro  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Kind of. I was contacted by a Marketing Firm that Simmons hired. I have no relationship with anyone at Simmons or GC.
      I charged my standard fee for video production and made the video as I would for anyone else.
      At no point in time did they give me instructions; just a PDF with basic talking points. Edits / changes to the video were never offered or requested.
      The world of paid reviews is less dark than many viewers imagine it to be. Companies that demand edits, specific phrases, or false positive reviews are rarely entertained by creators. Lying to your audience for money is an insanely stupid thing to do; so stupid that I’ve yet to encounter a company who implied I should do that.
      Worst case scenario, you send the product back to the company, and tell them you don’t find it worthy of review. I’ve mailed 2 products back to companies for this reason; the product sucked, and a review would literally just be me bashing the product. I get no money, and no product when this happens, but it’s obviously preferable to lying. Lol.

    Great timing, I've been considering upgrading ekits just now. I was about to go for the Roland TD07KV, which is a bit higher priced than this. Would this drumkit still be worth getting over it? It has at least one extra tom and cymbal, and three zones on the ride that the Roland doesn't have.
    I already have a double pedal if thay changes anything.
    Thanks!

    • @JojoRichards2005
      @JojoRichards2005 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a tough ask because if you just focused on the extra Tom and the three zone ride it gives you more for less the price. I have played both and Roland has better feeling mesh heads and they also have a better module so the sounds are miles ahead

      Unfortunately should of gone with the td07 man as the td1 is very bare bones and basic.
