    I know this is an old video, but it's still a great guide. I'm just about to mod my ender3 for the first time since I bought it 3 years ago. Up until now, all I had done was print some different fan ducts, but last week I ordered a new main board, touchscreen tft, direct drive kit and BLTouch.

    Edit: It just so happened that you encounter many errors when installing firmware for the wrong mainboard version, in my case, I installed the Ender 3 BL Touch Firmware for Version 4.2.7 when my mainboard version is 4.2.2, if anyone has the same issue I did for their Ender 3, the BL Touch firmware you’re looking for is located in the “Ender-3 4.2.2 mainboard (32bit)” download link, which includes a .rar file containing a folder with several firmware builds, the BL Touch firmware build being one of them, doing this fixed my issue with the printer failing to Auto-Home

    why use springs?

  • @chrisbobmms
    @chrisbobmms 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why do I need to remove C7? I installed everything (except removing C7) and it all seems to be working with one exception: After G29, it creates the mesh and reports it (I'm using pronterface), but when I go to print, whatever offsets are created don't seem to be working. Is Merlin 2 ready? Also, I was still able to use the G29 info to manually level the bed better.

    • @JKSSubstandard
      @JKSSubstandard 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Removing C7 is a recommendation by BL touch. That capacitor is designed to smooth signals coming from the Z stop. Its allegedly possible that this capacitor can disrupt signals from the BLTouch. This is likely why your offsets arent coming through

  • @glennfeldt_74

    I would probably want to use a bltouch kit and save the effort..
    However, looking on Amazon, I see some reviews saying that it's not compatible with v1.1.4 motherboard - yet I see you installing in that exact motherboard.
    What gives?
    How are you doing this with the v1.1.4?
    Am I missing something?

    • @meetoo594
      @meetoo594 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It works but is a bit more work. You have to use an altered firmware (teachingtech has a guide on his channel) as the one with the kit is substandard (no thermal runaway protection or live adjustments) and the flashing tool is in Chinese. You also must remove a capacitor from the motherboard. The instructions with the kit are also not particularly helpful. I used this video for the hardware installation and teachingtechs for the firmware install.

    I'm having some issues on and off with my BLtouch. Does anyone know if we have to configure (in this case Cura) Cura's start G-code after installing the BLtouch. Or does the firmware with the BLtouch contain all the required coding?
    It's a little confusing because none of the BLtouch installation tutorials mention slicer software configuration, but I see many people doing it.
    FYI: I have an Ender 3, with a 4.2.7 mainboard, using Crealities latest firmware (with Bltouch non-adapter) and a BLtouch V3.1

    Your ICSP numbering for the mainboard and the uno is not correct. There will be a 'dot, square, or 1' at pin 1 to identify it. Then the correct icsp pinout goes Left to Right and Top to Bottom. So your "Pin-1 identification" is correct, then Pin-2 would have been to the RIGHT not below. {en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-system_programming} Great video - just tryin' to help.

    I'm a little bit apprehensive about using a pair of pliers and yanking out a capacitor...Is there any way to avoid doing that?

      The new BL touch V3.1 does not require capacitor removal.

    Is it possible to do this with an esp32 or even without any microcomputer?
    My bltouch came with only with it and nothing else and I'm wondering wether I have to buy a separate microcomputer just to flash my printer.

    A friend gave me a BL Touch a few weeks ago and I have yet to install it, but I will probably do it this weekend while following your guide here. Looks pretty straight forward. Thanks.

    What BLTouch is this ie: is this a BLTouch v3.1? {Different versions require different installs. Same with the Ender 3 mainboard which you vid shows is a v1.1.4}
