  • Auto bed leveling is an excellent upgrade to any 3d printer. In this video, I go over how to install and setup the BLTOUCH auto bed leveling kit on an Ender 3/Ender 3 Pro with a Creality 4.2.2 mainboard, the process is the same if you have the 4.2.7 mainboard. I walk you through all parts of the process, including installing the hardware, modifying and applying the firmware, and making the necessary changes in Cura to allow it to run at the start of each print.

      @@Hakamotive Hi. Thanks for the feedback. I have multiple bltouch videos coving the install on the SKR Mini, Creality 32-bit board, and Creality 8-bit boards and they were all meant to be stand-alone videos. If you went through each of them, I can see how it would be confusing. Unfortunately, there isn't a one-size-fits-all as it can be different across boards and people like to wire them differently. To make it more confusing, iv seen the bltouch ship with 5 different harness wiring outputs. I'm taking it you have one of the reality 32-bit boards. If that's the case and you want to stick with the reality firmware, leave the z-stop plugged in and connect all five wires from the bltouch to the bltouch port. Make sure the wires follow the table I have in the "written instructions" article I wrote that you can get to from the description of this video. Hopefully that helps as I cant provide more guidance without knowing the pinout of the bltouch you ended up getting.

      Hello, thank you for this helpful video. I've got the same printer with the same V4.2.2 board and BLtouch V3.1. I've followed the steps of hardware wiring and updated the same firmware on my printer. Everything I've done was identical to the video until 10:18 mm:ss in the video. The BLtouch did not deploy and a message pops up on the screen saying "Home Z First". I've tried moving the Z-axis manually but it wouldn't go down! It moves up but it doesn't respond when I rotate the knob counterclockwise. Can you please help?

    All in all a very helpful video. In my case the BLTouch I received was not the same, the cable connections were different - two ribbon cables, one to the Z-detector, and one 3-pin that plugged into a daughter board. The only configuration that worked on my 4.2.2 board was to plug into the daughter board. While it did in fact load the firmware from the SD micro, I had to rename the file firmware.bin in order for it to load it. Go figure. At least i can say this, i did NOT fry my MB as some have done. The tutorial here helped me get the after setup configured, gracias amigo for that, all in all a good tutorial!

    I bought a BLtouch for my 8 bit board but could not install the necessary support into Marlin as memory was too small. Then I bought a 32 bit board and a CRtouch. Surprisingly I could not physically mount the CRtouch as its location is obstructed by the anchor at the end of the X-toothed belt. However there is room, just, for the BLtouch. Finally another surprise. The cable for the BLtouch swaps the order of the red/blue wires whereas the CRtouch cable is straight through. What fun.

    Hello, thank you for your video. It was truly very useful. I followed the steps in your video, and the BLTouch seems to be working. The issue arises when it starts sensing the bed height; the first 3 points it measures are outside of the bed, could this be a firmware problem? I'm using Ender-3 with Marlin 2.0.6, HW 4.2.2, BLTouch GD firmware from August 16, 2022. The board I'm using in my Ender is the same as yours, V4.2.2. Do you have any ideas on how I could solve this problem? Thank you very much in advance!

    Great video. Thanks for showing us this process. I followed it to set up my printer. My BLTouch doesn’t seem to store the bed mesh and then execute on it. My bed is daily level but I don’t see the machine adjusting the z axis when moving around the board. What stores the mesh level data? Do we need to put an M500 code in to store it? So I found your video after I installed a 4.2.7 mainboard and a BLTouch and had the issue of the Z axis not lowering like others have had. Today I decided to double check all the connections like I saw that you had recommended to others, and low and behold I found the issue. I was wearing my loupes that have some pretty good magnification so I could check what colors were attached to what on the BLTouch, and make sure everything was connected correctly on the main board. Everything was in the correct order but I found that with the two pin connector going to the main board had one of the inside pins that would move backwards in the plastic housing causing it to not make a connection. My touch was not from Creality and I wonder if there is some issue with manufacturing with some of the clone versions. I also wonder if this is a common issue that causes so many headaches for people. If I had not been wearing my loupes I would never have found this issue. Thanks for the video and keep up the great work!

    Sorry I was terribly frustrated that night. I was very abrupt, and ultimately inaccurate with my message. Though I bought one of the newest, most popular entry level printers available, an ender 3 pro with the 4.2.2 main board. And I have the version 3.1 BL Touch level probe, one of the newest of those., I ultimately couldn't get it to function properly. As for software, I followed your guide video but that failed so I went on to try probably 8 other versions of firmware from creality and other sources. Marlin with BL Touch etc. Some seemed to work with homing and the z offset calibration. Properly following the test pattern, even deploying properly at a full nine probing locations, only to fail miserably by skimming along at 1/16 of an inch above the surface of the build plate when it was supposed to be laying down plastic. I "did" obviously not break the probe tip as I though when it collided brutally with the build plate and seemed to fly off somewhere across the room. But it had actually managed to retract upon impact and it only looked at a glance that it hadn't survived. If you have any suggestions I would welcome them. It's really something that BL Touch didn't match their product with one of the most popular printers on the market. Maybe I could pick up one of the clones, if people are actually getting them to work where BL Touch has failed. Oh btw, the connections were a spliced extended harness I made up when Matterhackers sent me a probe and nothing else. I'm sure you're familiar with the white, five position connector specifically for the probe on that 4.2.2 board. I made up an electrically sound harness of 5, 26 gauge stranded wires, solder spliced and protected in 1/2 inch braided sheath all the way down into the controller housing and basically following the diagram precisely. And to my credit it functioned at times going thru all the motions but for being too high off the build plate when time came to print. Certainly nothing wrong with my connections. If you know of a different probe that has had success with my 4.2.2 model main board, and what firmware works with the imagined pairing please let me know as I am prepared to shell out the cost of an additional probe if it will get me the desired result. I appreciate you anticipated help. Sincerely..

If you have a link and can point me to firmware I can install by just copying onto MicroSD card and power up system to flash the controller I would be tickled. Turning the printer on its side will mess with many things including the z axis to a point so you will need to relevel after doing that. Hi, this is a great video. I have successfully installed the BL touch and followed all the steps exactly as described. However, every time I start a print, the extruder crashes on to my print bed and grinds into the surface. I am not sure what I am missing. I have a Creality Ender 3 w/ a 32-bit board (v4.2.2)

      @@3DPrintscapeThank you so much for the response - truly appreciate your help. The firmware I am using is from the Creality website: Marlin ver 1.3.1 (Apr 25, 2020). I picked up the one from the folder named "Marlin2.0.1 BL touch V1.3.1with-adapter firmware" - the file name is Ender-3 - Marlin2.0.1- V1.3.1- BLTouch.bin
      The wiring is done per the instructions & product manual: the 2 black and white wires from the BL touch are connected to the z-offset pins (it was previously connected to the z-limit switch which I removed). I've used the adapter board for the other 2 connections: 1) the display cable connected to the 10-pin 2) the other 3 wires from the BL touch are connected to the 3 pins on the adapter board Yellow -> SIG, Blue -> GND and Red -> VCC
      I have a different problem though that I cannot cover the control box as the adapter board comes in the way of the fan but I am just covering the control box the best I can and used a tape outside

      @3DPrintscape  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@skvclips The creality firmware won't work with it being used for the z-homing. I would drop the adapter board (Not meant for the 32 bit boards), connect all five wires to the bltouch port (make sure the wire order is correct, sounds like you will need to swap the positive and negative in the adapter), then connect the z-stop back up. After that, make sure your using the normal bltouch firmware, not the one with the transfer board.

      Hello Rob, thanks a ton again for the guidance & help. The BL touch upgrade kit documentation is very different. I rewired based on your video - I did swap the Gnd and V connections. I then used the BL Touch firmware (without the adapter board) & powered up the printer. So far so good

    I bought my bltouch second hand (still brand new in box) it came with a usb ISP, two other small boards, the 3 wire Dupont pin I had to rearrange the blue and red wires, and the white and black wires are in a connector that fits in the z axis spot and not the spot you put it in. Any idea what this extra stuff is?

    Hey there, i'm having also issues with bed leveling, at ranomd points (1/9, sometimes 7/9..) . I am using Marling 2.x Bugfix version, configured everything correct.
