Randy Holden Population 2 was my grail record. I owned 2 at the same time. I traded the first Nazz lp for one and picked up one from Wolfman Records in Tulsa in the early 80's.
Holden spent his entire music career on a quest for the perfect guitar tone, and I think even in 1969 with Blue Cheer on "Fruit and Icebergs", he already had better tone than Jimmy Page or Jeff Beck, and a Doom Metal anthem when Black Sabbath was still playing blues.
Maybe he had a "better" tone than Beck and Page since the beginning. I was told that the Yardbirds tried to hire me...maybe it's just legend... (but not surprising when you listen to Fender IV, Sons of Adams or The Other Half).
It was true! A meeting was set up between him and Keith Relf over Jeff Beck leaving, but Jimmy Page had already volunteered to step in his place, and eventually that band became Led Zeppelin and the rest is rock and roll history But Randy already had the Yardies attention as far back as 1966, his rep among international guitar circles was already known.
A legend guitarplayer, Population II is a masterpiece

Incredibly influential, visionary musician. There should be a fucking statue of Randy at the Rock and Roll Musician, let alone his overdue induction.
This guy should have been much bigger, he could jam with the best of them!!
randy rocks hands down.

The 1st album I heard with him was a cd copy of the Other half! Mr. Pharmacist 😅!! Great stuff!

Just got the Easy Rider records Randy Holden - Population ii vynil!
Randy a great guitarist!
Randy Holden's style is Tony Iommi power chords, Robin Trower solos, and a little bit of Ted Nugent. The best combination in my opinion
