I can't even believe the amount of people who never heard of these guys. Not to mention the people who have never heard Rumble by Link Wray. Practically the beginning of distorted rock and the beginning of the psychedelic/prog rock phase
The originators of head banging metal. I booked them at the Whiskey in both February and March of 1969 along with The Seeds. They were never underrated, they were the kings from 1966 to 1969.
Dickie was probably pretty sick with the cancer that killed him the next year when this show occurred. But he was still rockin' right up until the end. RIP (and RIP Paul too who just passed away this year).
I have had every Blue Cheer album that I could find , and CDs too. Want to read what they were about , find and buy the album Louder Than God and read the notes on the back of the cover . One band I wish I had seen live . RIP Dickie
saw them back in 1968 in a tiny bar and they blew out the windows in less than 10 minutes.. they were so loud that one had to be outside to take it all in
I worked with a guy who was a regular at Fillmore west. He saw everyone in his lifetime. He said the 2 greatest bands he ever saw was Zeppelin and Blue Cheer at Fillmore West.
Now it's a lots different with all the technology that exists today but the magic of this rock and roll band 45 years ago it's incredible cheers brothers.
Wish I could have seen them play live I've always really loved this song scince I was like 3 years old I'm 51 now n still love this song ! Blue Cheer !!!!
The jury is still out but I say 1st true Heavy Metal band The Yardbirds, Cream, Hendrix and Iron Butterfly are up there with Fijjid Pink, MC5 and Iron Butterfly...
Steppenwolf. Born to be Wild. I like smoke and lightning. Heavy Metal Thunder! Racing with the Wind and the feeling that I’m under! That was the first mention of the words Heavy Metal in a Rock song. And it was 1968.
Love them all forever!! What can you say about a band named themselves after the buzz they used while being so loud they had to record in airplane hangars!?!! Immortals Rock on in Nirvana Forever!!!
My God!!! If Black Sabbath, Metallica, and Nirvana were the grandchildren..... this song would be like grandpa pulling a coin out of their ears, and them being mystified... W
Saw them on April 27, 1968 at the Fillmore East, playing with the Iron Butterfly and Traffic. They were about as good as the Iron Butterfly, but Traffic was the class of the night. They sounded better at the Fillmore East than they do here.
A while back my 25yr old daughter asked me who invented metal. I immediately cranked up Summertime Blues and told her this is a band called Blue Cheer. Her mouth dropped open and she said "but it's in black and white". I never felt so fucking old in my life. LOL
@@thesandman4438 They had to film that in black and white, if they'd have done it in color people's brains would have exploded, it was just too much in 1968.
Not years before Sabbath, Sabbath already existed in 1968, their first album was released in 1969. Jimi Hendrix invented heavy metal - a journalist described his music as 'heavy metal falling from the sky'.
Does anyone know the names of these guys? A guy in college music theory said that he was in this band but that was @1981 so I don’t remember the face exactly but he was a good singer.
When people talk about heavy rock they definitely should be talking about these cats! Heavy rock at it finest! Definitely underrated band..
I can't even believe the amount of people who never heard of these guys. Not to mention the people who have never heard Rumble by Link Wray. Practically the beginning of distorted rock and the beginning of the psychedelic/prog rock phase

Saw them in concert 1968 in Phoenix with Iron Butterfly and Sweet-water and three other groups. They were awsome.
I have had every Blue Cheer album that I could find , and CDs too. Want to read what they were about , find and buy the album Louder Than God and read the notes on the back of the cover . One band I wish I had seen live . RIP Dickie

Saw them in the late 60’s and played with the drummer at a few studio sessions in the late 90’s
I worked with a guy who was a regular at Fillmore west. He saw everyone in his lifetime. He said the 2 greatest bands he ever saw was Zeppelin and Blue Cheer at Fillmore West.

Keep on going strong. The guys that helped to pave the way for Metal. I still listen to this great stuff.
The HEAVY ROCK Gods
Now it's a lots different with all the technology that exists today but the magic of this rock and roll band 45 years ago it's incredible cheers brothers.
Wherever you are Dickie/….keep blowing out their eardrums...rock on.
Heavy is an understatement! That version of that song punches ya right in the guts.

Well done gents! This -- THIS -- is how Hard Rock sounds done right. HARD Rock rocks HARD! That's it. The end.
2025 still rocks🎉
Said to be one of the loudest acts back in the day.
Go Dicky!
Loudest concert I ever attended; way back in '70. my ears were ringing for 12 hours after.
How these guys aren't deaf, I don't know.
I saw them in the 70s also and I have to say, they are one of the all time best 3man band I've seen.
My friend saw them at Fillmore West in early days and he said it was the loudest band he ever heard. He said he couldn't hear for days

Boss tone!
@@xyzzy117 Jordan Bosstone? Sweet!!
Not sure why this was their most popular song. Especially being a cover. Their song Peace of Mind is easily the greatest song in their rep.
Check out "sun cycle" or "just a little bit" if you havent already, those are good ones.
The first meyal band. I gorget thr year im 72, but they were summer fave band. I pick one or two been doing this for years.

The Who, even with Keith Moon and John Entwistle could not get this hard.
We should not forget The Gun, Love Sculpture and Grand Funk Railroad.
I would Steppinwolf is there too.
What a great time to have grown up in …
I blame the internet for the death of music heroes
One of the pioneer of heavy rock
una joya. el solo de bateria es unico
Next best thing to a living Hendrix or a Cream reunion
Steppinwolf as well.
Still sounds great!
AWESOME
Man I woulda loved to be in the house for this one
For a Few years loudest band in the world!
Love them all forever!! What can you say about a band named themselves after the buzz they used while being so loud they had to record in airplane hangars!?!! Immortals Rock on in Nirvana Forever!!!
ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT GROUP 😎😎😎
The best version of this song. The Who did it justice, but these guys gave it the girth !!!! Raw !!!
Eddie Cochran did it best!

Blue Cheer came to David’s in Manchester, CT. To check us out. They were very complimentary. Loved my drum set.
The could have been the earliest onset of grunge
Metal and Hard Rock not grunge

Let's get our terms right - this was called "hard rock" - which flourished briefly till cartoonish "heavy metal" displaced it
Hard to categorize uniquity.
use to call it acid rock back them.
Hard rock, heavy metal, acid, stoner... Titles change but at the end of the day it's all just rock 'n' roll
fucking MASTERS OF HEAVY ROCK GODS
A metal song from 1968
Years before black sabbath
This guys invented metal

L E G E N D S.
Bloody shit hot
only blue cheer of the 60's Please
Could have been heavy metal at its earliest. Which really sprung up from Jimi Hendrix
It would have been great if they played an Ozzfest with the original Black Sabbath on the same bill.
1968 Fillmore East
First American born metal band, only around the same time frame as Ozzy and Zeppelin
The first heavy metal band..1968 baby.. San Francisco
And their long hair back then.
..los Papás de Black Sabbath y mucho otros..si Señor !
Is this the original lineup?
Yes and also the progenitors of stoner rock and doom metal, along with Sabbath
The first heavy metal band??
weren't we just in our 20's? WTF HAPPENED?
Loud and Proud! MAGA
They kicked as much a$$ as anyone.
This sounds so much heavier than their 68 version.
