There is some good music in the Rock genre these days but largely it really does suck compared to music of this era where actual musicians played their instruments, wrote their own lyrics and music. There is so much music that is written by people behind the scenes only so losers who can’t actually play or write anything can get the credit - all while auto tuning and playing to backing tracks.
@@prestwickpioneer3474 at the ripe old age of 57 I totally agree with you. But I love in flames skindred ghost Maylene and the sons of disaster lamb of god etc not many come to the north east of England anymore mind.
Clearly the audience was not ready for this kickass hard rock at that time. Their reaction or lack thereof shows that UFO was much ahead of their time-except for the few guys who looked possessed, they probably time traveled from the future. Undoubtedly one of the best riffs of all times.
At this time the lucky bastards that were there for this show had no idea this band was tracking for worldwide domination. Incredible musicians and a virtuoso guitarist.
@Steven Vacco, they got better each year up until 76, when they peaked by adding Paul Raymond and his guitar/keyboards/backing vocals, and while his playing and songwriting helped in the studio, it was live onstage where it really took them to a higher level.
A lot of firsts. First time I heard of UFO. First time I heard this song. First time I saw a Flying V. Saw them on either Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert or Midnight Special. Never forgot that. Thanks for the memories TH-cam you do have some good uses.
Hard Rock may have ruled the airwaves but UFO was one of many bands that were considered too heavy to be played on most radio stations . They were played, but with extreme caution .
this is definitely the fastest version of this song i ever heard. I see we have some old school 1973 headbangers in the crowd. great video. thanks for posting this.
This has to be right when Michael Schenker joined the band. They didn’t have it down at all. Still cool. Makin up lyrics on the spot. I’ve been there! just hope people aren’t trying to make sense out of them. What a great band though saw them 2 times with Schenker. Both on the “Force it” tour. Once with Chapman. And MSG 3 times. I got some bootleg stuff on here. It’s under UFO- Tower. Thanks. This is cool!!!
I have favorite lead vocalists…Bon, Halford, Gillan, Rodgers, Guy Speranza and of course Phil Mogg! In my opinion, he is the best singer that is also the most understandable singer. I have dug UFO since about 1976. 🤘🤘🤘

Was this ever broadcast on German television? I'm pretty sure I've seen at least a part of this on Rockpalast or that same channel (NDR/WDR I think it was) in 1975. I was blown away, first thing next day I went out and bought 'Force It' and even bought me an identical Gibson Flying V a couple of years later 🤘😎🤘 or it was part of the Don Kirshner 1975 live gig that I saw.
@@georgemaranville3305 That's what I thought, the Kirshner show. Schenker looked about the same as he did in this recording. Phil Mogg made up his lyrics on the spot, over any guitar riff jam, until the song was actually recorded.
Maybe the most underrated band of all time, along with BOC!
Greatest Band of All Time!!!
UFO
Thin Lizzy
Golden Earring
All too underrated.

I wish the band I was in had .01% of that underrated status.
Different lyrics before the song was fully developed. Great riff and great solo.
For sure. What a great cut.
I have watched Michael perform this recently. He still has it. Truelly a unique player.
Us,too! A 14 minute version

Saw that one guy writhing on the floor and taking off his shirt, and I figured something must be going on!

(long live rock).
Fabulous early version, different lyrics. Played almost at punk speed . Brilliant- all 4 of them !
This is the best band I've ever seen live especially in Chicago
Chicago's always been a UFO town.
@Steven Vacco, they got better each year up until 76, when they peaked by adding Paul Raymond and his guitar/keyboards/backing vocals, and while his playing and songwriting helped in the studio, it was live onstage where it really took them to a higher level.

UFO influenced so many great bands! Rock on!👍🥁🎸❤️
Interesting lyrics - and some Deep Purple references!
bon scott loved these guys, ac-dc toured with them, great concert.
When Hard Rock music was rulling the Airwaves! UFO Legends 👏🤘
Hard Rock may have ruled the airwaves but UFO was one of many bands that were considered too heavy to be played on most radio stations . They were played, but with extreme caution .
Michael Schenker was 18 yrs old and already a seasoned professional.
The early beginning of seeing the best guitarist and band to take over the rock world.Period....
Guy on floor has hit rock bottom
Ufo one of the greatest bands ever
Damn this brings back memories!!!! Now I gotta dig my UGO albums out and listen all week..need some UFO in my life now
Wow, the spawning grounds...🎉
HOT under those studio lights! 😅
Michael Schenker only 18 in 1973
😮😮😮wow
Clásico de clásicos 🎸👏👏👏👏🇬🇧
I love this song so much... great band! Cheers!
Mogg, Schenker, Way. Thank god for what they gave us! Absolute masterpieces until too many egos got in the way.
best heavy metal song ever best lead guitar playing ever , the very best of UFO
Nice,, .....love the familiar high caps on the tittle :

He worked his ass off for every single note of that solo. Like Page in Achilles Last Stand.
4:26. Some early headbangers 🤘

odd this is before the phenomena album interesting
Fantastischer Auftritt!Unvergessen. Ich glaube, die sind damals im Studio alle positiv "durchgedreht ".

Saw that show in SF.

Damn .I was in the first grade in 74.I am now 57.
yeah early metal - ufo was such a great band - mellowed out a little - glad schenker went his own way
NWOBHM IN 1973
HOLY FUCK!!!!!!!
Makes you appreciate Paul Raymond, doesn't it. Yes sir!
so much of his reminds me of early ACDC yet also early 80s Metal bands too
Andy Parker: Drummer and now maker of great wood products.

What? Different lyrics - I'm intrigued and puzzled.
bro wtf where has this been ? didn’t know there was two versions of this song for 1973 that’s a bit ahead of its time
Flying V has a distinctive tone to it

Saw ufo along with Montana, the cars, heart, and Ted nugent. 81 mile high

to think that Michael was no older than 19 or 20 here and spittin out riffs like that.
Makin up words always makes me laff. Ozzy did it in Sabbath many times. Before the albums came out.
Looks like se found out where Tornado riff came from?!😂
How come the words are different from their more popular version?
I guess it was before the recorded the LP and they were still working on the song?
The track must've been brand new, lyrics not written yet. You could do that in those days.
Pete Way was a maniac. I wonder if he inspired other players ?
Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, for one! 😉

Derek Smalls of the Tap!
I liked the name of his band after UFO broke up. Waysted.

Was this video sped up post-production, or did the band actually play at this speed?
Yes this was the right speed. This was an early version as per Moog ad libing the words.
