I'm really happy with the glow up. Was afraid not to be since I'm just so used to the original, they don't phase me and I'm used to it. But I feel like this new style is in the "anime" direction of 2 and 3 but also leans into being more realistic. Honestly really impressive the balance between those two they nailed.
Yeah I really love this hybrid anime realistic direction
At first I was not sure of those visual changes as I really found nothing wrong with the old models. I still think they're good, but I think the new ones will grow on me once I am actually playing the game, especially since the whole colour-saturation is much more vibrant now.
@@TamdinSol Yeah, I also didn't have complaints about the old ones like most. That why I was afraid NOT to like the new ones if they were too anime. But I think they nailed the balance.
Gwin in his giga-chad arc.
They did my boy Gwen justice, he looks so much better and more mature the glow up was amazing good job Nintendo
Yess! Gwin, Elma and Lin all got amazing much needed glowups! Gwin looks older like he should and Lin looks younger like she should
We need both the young and adult hairstyle of Shulk and Rex would be awesome
Agreed! Pyra's too
@@XenoastraPyra’s hair is confirmed for the young girl face option
@shadowlinkx9180 let's gooo
H.B. Looks the same because you cannot improve upon perfection
100%
I haven't seen anyone compare each of the characters like this yet so kudos for that! I appreciate the effort to compare them clearly and in the same poses when possible. The new faces are stellar. I spent so much time with the original game and I'm excited to relive it all again!
Thank you so much! I think I spent about 800 or so hours on the original and will definitely do it all again!
@Xenoastra you've got me beat by maybe 50 hours or so but same here! It was and still is one of my favorite games. Haven't been able to play it in so long and have been itching for this remaster since then. I never did 100% the game but that's definitely going to change. I'm looking forward to all the new content. It just feels like something that I thought never had a chance of happening finally coming true haha.
@@AgClAgCl Same here. I think I got only like 45% of Mira surveyed XD . I am actually so glad they made the remake
Oh man, the music at 4.44. That's is one of my main reasons to come back to this game, to have that song on loop.
Oh yeah for sure. When I watched the trailer and heard uncontrollable … THE EMOTIONS. I just HAD to boot up my Wii U and play
"absolutely no changes for Doug"
His whole face looks a lot more distinctive, like, look at those cheekbones in the new design! Old design Dougs face looks a lot smoother, younger, weaker. Old Doug could basically be the son of new Doug xD"
That’s true. It’s actually pretty hard to tell since one is angled so I didn’t really know what to say since it’s hard to tell with the limited pics of him LOL. Also I was focusing on changes that aren’t artistic changes(which I guess this could be?)
Only thing i don't like about Elma is her eye color. The greenish color just stood out so much and looked cool.
Ahh that’s true. It did match her skin tone a bit more as well
I feel like almost everyone's eyes are worse off.
@@thenonexistinghero I can live with everyone, even Celica, except Elma. It's like she's constantly shape-keyed into this awkward squint in DE where originally her eyes were able to do a lot of the heavy-lifting with her expressions. :p
Which Character change / Character is your favorite?
Lin! Her face always looked a bit... off... I don't know why but now she looks good
Celica has always been my favorite, but damn i didn't realize how different Gwin was until you put it side by side. Great analysis!
@@azurafates8440 Thanks! I love her too :)
Doug. Because we now have canonical proof that he's perfect~
YES
The Rexification of Gwin xenoblade is not what I expected, but I'm certainly not complaining.
I love how skin colors are warmer, I can't wait to make my character !
Same!
Did I just find my favorite Xenoblade Chronicles Xtuber?!
Aww ❤️ thank you! Feel free to join the server and check out my twitch where I will be streaming Xenoblade X! The links are on my homepage:)
what they did to celica has me so depressed 😭 she looks so much better in the original, her markings are barely even visible in the definitive edition
Yeah I agree. They made her look more human 😭
great video astra! these glow ups are crazy good. cant wait for this game aaaaaaaaaaa... i look forward to more xeno content >:)
I CANT WAIT EITHER AAAAAAAA
I wonder if the NPC's in NLA have been given the same treatment. Some of them were a bit rough in places.
Yeah! And the cars too. They were the OG Tesla cyber trucks
Am I the only one who feels like the new art style they're using for XCX Definitive Edition (Being more anime-y and polished than the original art style but still being more realistic and less cartoon than other Xenoblades on Switch) actually resembles the Xenosaga art style on the PS2? I hadn't realized it until I got a look at the closeups and yeah, the resemblance feels there
If this is a prelude of what we can expect for the Xenosaga remakes/reboot then we're in good hands, I was afraid they would just completely anime-ify Xenosaga and make it look like XC2/DE with a Xenosaga themed reskin
I agree with this! They made it animey to look close to the other games yet more realistic like xenosaga!
Honestly I always thought even original X looked a lot like saga. Something about everyone's chins and noses, it was a very distinct look.
Elma and Lin look beautiful. I didn’t like how Lin look in the original she almost look like a doll. Elma look fine in original and they made her look even prettier.
Honestly it just goes to show how good X looked on Wii U it by far the best looking RPG on the system. That being said I always said that if they ever release a Definitive/Deluxe version and bump up the polly's I would instantly double dip and I totally did. It looks so good and Elma, My heart! She looks wonderful Also Lao is so cool and handsome! Great video. I can't wait to play again!!!
Totally agreed. I remember being absolutely mesmerized by the graphics the first time I played it. Thanks!
Some characters look worse. Lin's face looks so bland now. A lot of the characters also seem to have worse shading and whatnot. They often look flatter. And the softer look actually makes some things look less detailed. Tatsu looks significantly better in the original since the almost cell-shaded look just looks out of place in this game. Most of the character's eyes also seem a lot flatter. They don't sparkle or don't do it as much, kinda looks like dead eyes in comparison to the original in many cases.
That’s a good point. I see what you mean. Hopefully they look better in motion rather than still images
If Elma reminds you of Alvis she's supposed to. They both take design cues from chaos, a character from Xenosaga.
@@ruinandchaos She looks like a mixture of Mary Magdalene (Xenosaga) and chaos.
Can't wait for this game, I had a Wii U but never played the original because I wasn't into Xenoblade at the time!
I hope you enjoy it! It’s a gem for sure
Yeah, I like the art style change. The original games eyes were a bit wonky feeling at times. Pretty much anyone with larger eyes looked off in the original. Kinda felt like there were a bunch of clashing art styles for the faces because of it. Feels a bit more unified now.
XENOBLAAAAADDDDEEEE!!!!
XENOBLADDDEEEEEE
The old faces look like AI slop.
I’m glad they made them a little better.
They should’ve done what they did with the first game’s characters in DE, tho.
I think Tatsu looks the best overall. Probably the best-looking character in the game.
Yo saying Alma, looks like Elvis is kind of crazy and I believe it's Head Cannon
5:49 L's horns are different.
Yeah that’s what I meant by forehead
I think it looks like Doug's eyebrows are wider/longer, more "pointier", also his ears seem to point out more, but that could be the difference in angle.
That’s a good catch. Yeah it could be. Hard to tell by the limited doug photos from both the original and the new one
Doug looks hotter
But 9:06 this guy's differences are big to me. Original had bushy eyebrows, while remastered they look trimmed.
Remaster has far more wrinkles around his eyes and cheeks, their nose is narrow now and lips are thinner, his mouth looks like a fish with human teeth ugh lol. Remastered his face is overall thinner too. The original looked way better, seemed actually healthy compared.
That’s a good point. I do think due to the lack of new pics we have atm it’s kinda hard to tell for the minor characters like him
I honestly think L looks far better, I actually like how he looks now. Something was off with his eyes and they fixed that a lot.
I agree, the new eyebrows are also nice. Btw nice pfp ;)
Irina underrated? Mind control+servant sacrifice is fantastic for early game
Yes! Although I feel character wise she’s underrated. Battlewise amazing
4:58 I mean how could you improve on perfection?
Lin's new haircut for her fringe does make it look like an older type of girl haircut instead of the standard haircut in Asia.
That’s a good point! I know a lot of people said something looked off about Lin before and I think it was that hair + eyes and the new hair makes her look nicer
@@Xenoastra But she's not a nice girl.
Holy Gwin looks different
Much Much better
honestly I think his old design shows personality
True, he's humble and wholesome and now he looks more chadified
Me personally? I would prefer the keep it adjacent but still separate to the main trilogy, like, still a part of the grater Xeno multiverse, but not too directly related to any one established world. Not a fan of shoehorning in retcons like that myself a la Ultima or something like that.
i wonder why they got rid of lin's monado hairpin...? feel like that was one of the most apparent xenoblade easter eggs, so removing one of them is kinda fishy. was it just a fashion statement...?
other than that, i enjoy lao's adjustment. the definition of the wrinkles of his face makes him look more aged. i miss his darker eyes tho, something i loved a lot about lao was his cutesy glittery eyes but tbh maybe its for the better theyre gone LOL they were too cute for me
That’s a really good question I wonder too. I did like having two better personally but maybe the design team preferred it with just one
@ yah it stood out to me. usually design changes of certain elements r used to foreshadow a lot (alvis’ key -> trinity processor necklace) so the removal of the monado symbol is kinda interesting. might just be a fashion statement tho, im probably overthinking
@ we never know with Nintendo, the lore can always be really deep. Perhaps we will find out i fit meant something
You forgot the minor support characters Kirsty and Elenora
Ahh have their DE versions been released? I didn’t know if so, but I love Elenora lol
@Xenoastra I also forgot Professor B, the so called time traveler from the distant future and the Man-On though likely would just lump them with all the other Definitive versions of all the aliens besides L or Celica/Rock
I don't like Celica's new upgrade. The furry rabbit ears and a dark large tribal tattoo looked fine before.
If Monolith have made more drastic changes to the game, I'll go back to playing the original game.
I love a hybrid of the two. I loved the old ears and markings but the new eyes
I don't really like it either. Seems like they're shifting to a more cell shaded type of look for many characters. And quite a few actually happen to come across as less detailed as a result (not all though, some are more detailed). I feel like most of the characters actually look a bit worse now (but not all, a few do look better like Elma and Gwin).
Feels like the male characters didn’t really get changed much
That’s true besides Gwin
there was Melias va in original too, but I guess you don't count jp va
Ooh I never knew that actually. That’s pretty cool
Not sure about you guys but I'm pretty sure most of the characters faces all look different and have changes
Yeah this is true, I tried to focus mainly on things that were changed beyond just the different art style (E.g Celica's markings) but yes! lots of changes
Remove Tatsu and we have a perfect game.
Let’s have Lin actually cook him in the beginning
For Elma: I like the new hair, but prefer the original face. I find the flattening of her face, wider fish-like eyes, and the saturation looks like downgraded port - it's similar to what happens with PS5 games that get ported to Switch. Do not like the XC2 version of her - it looks like a cheaper game, like One Piece, Rune Factory, or Tales of Something.
Overall, I like both the non-XC2 art styles, don't have very strong opinions either way, but I always found the XCX art style to be better looking than the other three games because it looks more tangible - and the only game I felt improved over Xenosaga Episode 1 among Monolithsoft games so far.
Right now I rank all the games character graphics:
1. Xenoblade Chronicles X (Wii U or Switch version)
2. Xenosaga Episode 1
3. Xenogears
4. Xenoblade Chonicles 1: Definitive Edition (tie)
4. Xenosaga Episode 3 (tie)
6. Xenoblade Chronicles 3
7. Xenoblade Chronicles Wii version
8. Xenosaga Episode 2
9. Xenoblade Chronicles 2
I don't outright hate any of them, but I find the second game in each trilogy had a jarring second game art style. In Xenosaga it was the switch to a drab and beady eyed characters that didn't look much like the originals. In Xenoblade it was a switch to a distractingly oversaturated style that made a lot of the characters look like they had their features drawn on, like a higher resolution DS or N64 game. In both cases, they looked like massive downgrades from previous games.
