      I know this isn’t related, but avenged has done one thing really well which is not let themselves get audience captured which is why I believe they’re the best post-Napster band out there atm.

I feel this album came out at a perfect time for me too because I was just going threw a lot of thing and when this album came out, I felt like this album talks about everything I was thinking about so I fell in love with this album immediately. It was clear from the release of Nobody that A7X was not making another bland metal album. They really shine as artists and that's awesome to witness.
    Now go look for Beautiful Morning by Pinkly Smooth and the early demo of Easier.

    • @JustWriteMusic
      @JustWriteMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ahh Pinkly Smooth. There's so much of that project in this album, which really helped me see what I felt their aim was. Similar to as you said: not making another bland metal album 🤘

    Lost my dad last year and Cosmic made so many of those emotions come out that were bottled up. Your take is the only right one I've seen so far. This record is crazy but it evokes so much emotion and I love it. People say "THIS ISN'T AN A7X ALBUM!!!" - there has never been an A7X album that has sounded the same so I'm unsure why people even say that. It's a masterpiece.

    • @JustWriteMusic
      @JustWriteMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you for sharing your experience. I know that's not easy. I had the same experience as you, I was suddenly just bawling. A7X definitely hit on something real here and I think people's discomfort with it is perhaps an aspect of that. Truth can be uncomfortable. Thanks again for your comment :)

  • @Jamie_London

    Jimmy’s writing is very much on the album! The bridge in “Mattel” was written by him for an old Pinkly Smooth demo and he’d always wanted to reuse it later in an a7x song but could never find a song for it to fit it in, the guys reworked it a bit and it fits perfectly for Mattel! The middle of Beautiful Morning that Brian sings is a piece that he and Jimmy wrote from the same PS demo. Obviously they added more to it and expanded it for Beautiful Morning but yeah, spot on hearing Jimmy throughout! Excellent video.
    So sorry for your loss my brother

    • @JustWriteMusic
      @JustWriteMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much! I had no idea about those sections originally being in Pinkly Smooth!! That's super cool, I love that they did that. Sometimes it can be hit or miss when bands revisit old material, like Trivium's recent reuse of Shogun-era material that didn't make it on the album
      And thank you, it's weird to talk about it online, but it felt right in the moment

    Good take. Definitely hear a lot of Jimmy and I share in many of your sentiments. I loved it right from the start and have since listened to the full album front to back at least a half dozen times since release a couple months ago. I get why some aren’t into it, but man if you’re into it, you really get into it. Absolutely a pure manifestation of musical craftsmanship, emotion and creativity.

      Really well said! Thanks so much for your comment. I think a record like this has to be divisive, otherwise it would be too broadly appealing, and in that sense lose some of its special sauce, so to speak. Thank you for sharing your story and the feelings you're still processing. This album is so much about grief, and the complexity of processing it. I keep saying that this is the sequel to the self-titled because it's JIMMY all over it - but it's also the sequel to Nightmare because the growth from losing Jimmy is in there. I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner to this. I was in a startlingly similar position as you last year in my mom's final months. Being a caretaker is really really difficult that - as I'm positive you know firsthand -comes with confusing, scary, and sometimes guilt-inducing thoughts.
      I want you to know you are nowhere near alone and that I'm happy to chat with you privately and support you. You're doing an incredibly wonderful thing for your mother, and it's still something to bear. I hope you have support in your inner circle to help you, and I'm happy to add my name to that list. My email is avi@justwritemusic.com. Hit me up mate. Also hit up some Tolkien if you're a fan, because Frodo's "failure" resonated HARD with me during that time.

    I lost my mother to cancer when I was 15 and that was the time I started really getting into avenged. I was able to share that pain of losing a loved one with them and listening to their music has helped me through out the years. But like you said It was really hard at first I felt like a ghost for a month. Starting drinking, doing drugs. And through all of those experiences and moving out of teens into my twenties I was able to except death and almost embrace it. And doing that allowed me to have a great outlook on life and I enjoy things a lot more thoroughly now. But I feel you brother 🕊️

    Ty so much for talking about this from a psychedelic/spiritual perspective, many ppl who criticize the album dont really care about that aspect or are even capable of understanding it. This album brough me tears on first listen and many listens more. Ive been an a7x fan since like 2007 and none of their songs have ever made me feel like this album has, maybe fiction because theres a bit of a backstory to it. Your commentary on this video is so heartfelt and real and i relate to that so much and it gives me a bit of solace knowing that people like you are out there. This album is a complete catharsis for me and honestly i kind of grew out of listening to a7x, i started listening to more opeth and more progressive stuff. I did not expect the band that inspired me to play guitar and love music to come out late in their career with this incredibly beautiful and thought provoking and CONNECTED album that provokes so much emotion from anybody who listens to it. I have a strong belief in a spiritual connection with music, synchonicity, and the true meaning of life. I wont go much farther on my rant there but I decided (before this album came out and was announced) to create a psychedelic metal band, we are Psylosyn from nashville tn. Almost done writing the album but when libad dropped i got sooo much more inspired to take even more risks with my own music and just going with my own convictions in life. Play every note like its the last time youll hear it.

    • @guyincognito320
      @guyincognito320 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think psychedelics are a dead end and that's why the system promotes them. 'Anything but the religion your ancestors believed in.' The music and the artwork reflects the bland and depressing metaphysics of spiritual coping, as well as the disjointed and meandering structure of the songs, which refuse to exploit any of the little beautiful ideas scattered throughout. It's a rejection of beauty, that which is eternal and unchanging, out of a stubborn commitment to the self and its misery.
      Their songs dealing with the Bible refute the worldview of this album by dint of their energy and joyous aggression.

      @@guyincognito320 ur comment is a god dam mess for me to try and read and decifer. Not sure wtf your opinion is but ur against psychedelics, against the connection that God put on this earth for us to ingest and experience. You don't even understand the albums context in the slightest.

    This video definitely resonated with Matt because apparently he shared this on his twitter. Great job on it, I subscribed to your channel and signed up for your free gift, thanks!
    For me, I instantly disliked nobody, but loved the second chorus with the bridge into solo. Heard someone comment "this is their St. Anger " which I thought was funny. However, after a few more listens this song did grow on me more and live, wow, it jammed surprisingly and satisfyingly hard. Loved the whole album and the other songs hit harder live too. Would love to hear them all live honestly.
    Best piano piece I ever heard, I almost can't believe its actually Syn and I am in fact suspicious that either AI or God actually composed it somehow lol
    It restored my love for humanity to listen to the recording of LIBAD piano piece with the crowd after Matt screams the final line in (D)eath (in a way reminiscent of how he sounded in Waking The Fallen, just brilliant) and I saw nobody leave in Vancouver for the whole 3-4 minute piece, people were clapping during the transitions... I've also seen recordings in other towns of the crowd enjoying the piano outro and it was just a beautiful nostalgic pshycedlic healing experience for me.
    It was so good to me and the performance was also even better than I thought, so I decided I will try to catch them in another town on this tour again. You never know how short life can be....

    You said the same things i realized. Ive tried those psychedelics before and i think that makes it easily to comprehend progressive unique music. You added into my comprehension as well
    I got to tell you something as well, ive been watching a lot of videos about near death experiences and all of them said they rose above their bodies and could see everyone looking at them. All of the experiences people said were incredible. That at any time they could go to any place and all they felt was pure love and acceptance on another level.
    So ive formed this mindset that physical death is actually a form of evolving. We are extensions of the universe itself and through its formations within our physical bodies it learns about itself. Every experience we have goes into the database of new possible experiences for other beings.
    This is an abstract thought but i believe its actually an awesome realization that that pain of death in the moment has already passed. Theyve already traveled into the realm where pain no longer exists and theyre onto their next awesome experience.
    I say this not to minimize your experience, but i believe the people we have known could actually be with us at all times. I also learned about this universal force called the divine matrix where its basically a sort of ether where our thoughts and other unknown energies live. I learned there is an actual measured amount of weight that leaves the body beside the escape of gases that they consistently measured and they believe its the weight of the spirit leaving the body.
    So its very true that your mom could visit you all the time. She still has the choice to. Our bodies are only carriers for our spirits, vehicles for our universal spiritual experience.
    I really believe our loves that have moved into the next realm see us and they wouldnt want us to be sad about it to where it weakens us. They want us to experience infinite power and love. And i think to allow it to weaken us would go against their wishes respectfully.
    Also in the NDE's the people said they were wondering why everyone was so sad because they said it was the greatest experience of their lives and it felt incredible when they left their bodies

      That's a fair point. From an artist's perspective I think that makes sense. I don't they've ever wanted to tread old ground like that. It seems normal that fans are split about that. Metallica fans are a great example - some only like the early albums, some are Justice and Black Album diehards, and some just like whatever they do cause it's them.

I own a few of their CDs but they didn't get heavy rotation. Mostly mood music for driving or background for video games. That was their niche. But LIBAD hooked me immediately. I think it's in the composition. This, more than their other music I've heard seems like it starts with a great song idea and finely tunes each piece of the music to perfectly drive the feeling of the song home, so to speak. I think that we’re currently in an era defined by consumer or fan expectations. A lot of bands are gaining mainstream recognition from things they did in the past that weren’t welcomed by a large part of the establishment, the media, the critics or the fans themselves in their time. So now the expectation is for them to do classic album part 2 when their careers have evolved since then.
    A7X and Pierce the Veil have put out some impressive albums but are getting panned or largely ignored because they don’t match the expectations. And this is what will invariably happen when MCR releases a new album which will inevitably not be The Black Parade or Three Cheers 2.0.

    • @JustWriteMusic
      @JustWriteMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree. I'd also like to add that exact thing already happened to MCR with Danger Days to a degree. The only caveat is we're not technically hearing MCR on that album. We're MCR playing as The Killjoys. Also if it's in the same vein as their new single from last year, I'm on board :)

      @@JustWriteMusic I think that whatever they release will most likely be in the vein on Foundations of Decay, which I liked, though they could make the vocals a lot more intelligible.

    They’ve always been very good with integrating orchestral parts and only got better with time I think. Even in Hail to the King my favorite tracks are those like that, especially Acid Rain. And then you get stuff like Roman Sky… but yeah, here they really brought it to a new level.
    Honestly, unlike you this album probably hit me hardest on the first listen, probably because I listened to it in my bed, in the dark, with my eyes closed. The last third really felt like slowly drifting into a dream, shifting from one scene to another almost unconsciously. But that may also be why subsequent listens didn’t grab me as much − that surprise effect was no longer there and while I still like the album, now it kinda leaves me hungry for more.

    • @JustWriteMusic
      @JustWriteMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      ahhh what a great first listen that sounds like. Maybe too perfect? You're totally right about the orchestrations by the way. I think they worked with the San Bernadino Symphony Orchestra

    As soon as I heard "Nobody" and "We Love You", I knew that our boys had changed and decided what they wanted to do. And I love them for that. Doing what they want whether anyone else liked it or not. I, as a musician, use to think that I had to give my listeners what they wanted, cause if I didn't, they wouldn't listen. But the last year or so, Avenged taught me that it doesn't matter what anyone else wants, make what I wanna hear, and the right people will come and listen. So that's what I'm doing now. And since I've learned that, so many more people love the music my band plays, because it sounds familiar, yet different from other bands that share a genre with us.

    Whenever I hear the term “raw” or “energy” in reference to music it’s almost always another way of saying that the recording and production sounds like shit. Just because something is intentionally done does not mean that it excuses poor quality. I could record myself farting and use it as a sample in place of each tom hit in the drum bus, but that doesn’t mean its just okay and good because I did it intentionally.
    They’re allowed to do as they please with their music, it’s their band. However, that doesn’t mean we the consumer “don’t get it” because we dislike it. I knew exactly what this album was the moment I heard “We Love You.” I said to my girlfriend, “This sounds like they did a bunch of psychedelic drugs and decided they wanted to make something weird and trippy.” I get it. It’s supposed to be different, but that does not make it great.
    I simply don’t enjoy the jarring switch ups in sound and strange musical choices. That does not mean I don’t understand the attempt made by the band. I dislike intentionally underproducing your album or songs in an attempt to sound “raw” because I believe that the whole point of a studio recording that’s mixed and mastered by a pro is to sound as clean as possible. If you want to sound raw, record your new music at live shows and release it as far as I’m concerned. I want an album to sound as powerful and tight as possible. It’s possible to sound different and still have a high quality mix.

    Disagreeing with music versus awful music is not the same thing. I’ve been a big fan of weird music for years, so I don’t mind this. The more you listen to it the more you love it from my experience..
    Avenged sevenfold doesn’t allow their fans to control them to make the old music they want them to go back to because if they did that, the fans will be Happy because they got what they wanted out of them. But you would be making the actual artists Sad because you took their creative freedom away just to please your subconscience of wanting to hear their older stuff again… Which is completely not fair.
    They already stated their own fanbase is not going to love everything that they do. But all in general, nobody’s obligated to love every single piece of music of anyone’s creation. You can be a big fan of a movie Director, and only like 5 of his movies out of 11 movies he made. You don’t have to love everything an artist does, that’s just not right. Nor are you obligated to because you consider yourself to be a fan..
    An artis grows and matures when they get older and go through life experiences. And sometimes in order to tell the newer stories you want within your music, you have to change your whole style to connect with the audience on what we are trying to get the message acrossed with. Just because you don’t agree with a newer style that does not fit for you, that does not mean it’s terrible music.
    But that is just my perspective. 😇

    I'm sorry but this mediocrity of an album exists already from about 700 different bands currently on bandcamp named after a geometric shape, minus the uniqueness of Shadow's voice and Syn's always stellar guitar playing. People only care and are saying it's "amazing" from the band's notoriety, copium, and self-relation. Musically, it's a beyond strange take and very alienating attempt at trying to evolve as an artist. These new songs at their MSG show in NYC a few weeks ago absolutely sucked the life out of the entire arena. I get wanting to reinvent yourself and and being risky, but at some point it just feels like the artist takes their beliefs so far up their own ass its hard to relate or enjoy the music anymore.

Like people are jerking off this album for it's "Philosophical meaning" but that meaning needs good music to back it up. This concept album is so disjointed from song to song, with some horrible vocal choices (if you can't do highs Matt just please don't do them), production choices, meandering boring choruses like Nobody, that horrifically cringy and stupid build section on We love you, the mf'ing tpain vocoder on GOD.
