  • The windshield on my Camaro SS was cracked due to a rock hitting the glass on the highway. The replacement was done by Safelite Autoglass. Here's a bit of what the process looks like to replace the windshield and how much it cost to replace it.

      Thanks. Safelite doesn't use OEM parts unless you specify directly or your insurance does. My original windshield has wiper heaters, defrosters and other sensors. I've heard horror stories of people who went aftermarket and had issues with these things working. I'd go OEM 100% but the cost is usually much higher. I was just wondering what you chose cuz it looks pretty good in the video.

      @@ShawnieP512Fuyao makes the glass for GM motors
      It can be bought by all auto glass shops. There is bad brands of aftermarket but Fuyao isn’t one of them

      It’s your choice most of the time unless you use insurance and sometimes they only pay for one glass or the other.

    A couple of things to the tech…. Most important.. always wear rubber gloves. Always run a solid , no seams across the top. starting on the side just below the corner if at all possible. Try to eliminate any joints, seams , stop and starts of glue. That why shooting the glass can be the best option. Takes getting used to tho. With a great set, u will virtually eliminate and potential leaks. In the last 10 years I had two leaks. One was on a back windshield. R&I. U did a fine job tho.

    • @rjizzlebitch
      @rjizzlebitch 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Problem with shooting the glass is you don’t know where that bead is going to land exactly. Shooting the body is always the best choice bcuz you know exactly where the glue is

      You don't get to choose. Your insurance company tells Safelite what glass to put in cause they're paying for it. Unless you're paying then you can choose. It's rarely OEM if insurance is paying unless it's a new car but even then they try to throw aftermarket on everything. It's cheaper

    • @ShawnieP512
      @ShawnieP512 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@grady.stu.8300 You absolutely do get to choose. The default option is aftermarket because as you said it is indeed cheaper and it usually is covered in a deductable. It also gives the impression that Safelite has great prices. When I called they sort of pushed aftermarket but anyone in the know can choose either one. I chose OEM. It cost a little more out of pocket.

    Safelite is trash, I mean any tech should be able to top set by himself, funny how safelite contracts out to other techs

    • @kevinW826
      @kevinW826 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Safelite/speedy glass, owned by Belron doesn’t contract out. As for running the bead on the body, every technician does, even those who have worked for the company for 40 years. The one tech system is only used if you are working by yourself, both in shop and mobile.
