Agreed. And as far as I can tell, he hasn't mentioned (or at least hasn't overmentioned) this very positive review of his new Fuzzstration pedal: www.premierguitar.com/articles/28708-wampler-fuzztration-review
My apologies to Guitar Center and other retailers ... but the best way to get a budget setup is to use the 2nd hand market. If you buy wisely, you can try stuff out, and if you don't like it, sell it on for the same price you bought it. P.S. I did buy my Plexidrive new though, so Brian got his money. ;)
I have to fully agree. All 3 of my tube amps are second hand workhorses that are nice and broken in. I've seen newer Fenders & Orange amps returned quite often due to poor quality control (little things like fuse issues, bad grounds, hissy tube sockets). Grab a well used Peavey Classic 30 or 50, re-tube it...spiffy up any crackling pots and you're gigging with no worries about dependability or the inevitable gig scars. Leaves you a lot of money to buy spanking new pedals to open up your tonal world and more GEEETARS!!!!

Great video Brian! Very thoughtful of you to consider the new musicians and budget minded folks who need to start somewhere. Nice goin. I’ve got a Tumnas and it will never leave my board by the way! Keep on rockin in the free world!
The Blackstar ID:Core line has a tuner functionality built in. I did something like this build on our recent SC vacation -- picked up a used 02 Schecter Diamond Series guitar, blond maple w/hard case, and a Blackstar ID:Core 10W amp at Guitarzan in Myrtle Beach to keep at my in-laws for vacation guitar practice & enjoyment. That combo sounds great.
I still want to blow up my original Line 6 Spider hahahah it was so damn terrible!! I did, however, learn a LOT on how to find a clean tone and working from there. I truly believe tube amps will never go extinct though. The tone is just ALIVE in tube response that even the best digital amps still cant fully replicate.....electric guitar signals will always be an analog beast...and the full bandwidth is captured by tubes better than anything else.
Nice! I would have looked for a used amp with reverb, a blues driver or tube screamer, a ditto looper and hoped I had enough left over for a Squire Classic Vibe tele.
He said "budget" video, I had a Classic Vibe Tele and those are still going for $350 used, I have also had an Affinity Tele and they aren't bad at all stock
Cool video as always, Brian! If I were to build a budget rig I’d go with: Squire Classic Vibe Strat Fender Blues Jr Polytune Mini Boss Blues Driver Tubescreamer Mini TC Flashback Delay Mini
If you were on a tight budget, I would: Swap the FBJ for a used Ampeg Jet T reissue, excellent cleans, onboard Trem and Spring Reverb; Behringer clones for drive and delay (straight TS and Boss DD copies); Tone City's cheapo Klon copy as clean boost, and; Korg PB mini just as a personal preference (slightly cheaper too). That'd knock a few hundred dollars off your spend, add flexibility, but keep a similar sound.
This is real close to what I'd do, as well. Squier strat and Blues Jr. are great choices (Egnator Tweaker 15 combo would be another interesting choice for amp, if you want to save a few bucks, but you can't beat the sound of the BJ). From there, I'd conspire to add some manner of delay (TC is a good choice due to Toneprint offering a bunch of options, and for delay you really want to have as many different sound choices as possible for various music types and delay). From there, MXR Distortion+, which is reasonably inexpensive at $80 and offers a really compelling, classic drive sound. After that, pick your poison by way of additional poison. Some manner of tube screamer and/or fuzz would be good additions, some manner of Wah would be a good addition, but even without them you could play just about anything.
I would normally be in total agreement with you, since I am a "tube only" high headroom Orange guy who plays 15w to 30w amps..... el84's are my voice. But, this video is geared for the "budget constraints" of a player.... maybe not for you and i, since we, like Brian, have a certain amount of "informed experience"...... and maybe a few extra dollars saved to spend on the good stuff.....
I appreciate his honesty and candor. I have both SS and tube amps. I chased after ”tone” for years. I finally came to the conclusion that 90-95% of your tone comes from you; your hands! The remainder, while important, is not the most important part of the equation. Brian is going to sound like Brian, whether he plays a $350 Squier or a $2000 Fender. When I started, I didn’t have much capitol to work with. Now, after playing for nearly 50 years, I still don’t have a lot, but I have more than I did and through trading and upgrading, I think I’m pretty well set.....until GAS sets in again, LOL!
I'm a home player (pretty good one) and I use modded squiers and a decent board with Orange Crush20rt and Vox Pathfinder 10 running together with the Radial Bigshot ABY into a desk mixer and out of studio monitors. Works for me!
Strats, tele, Hot Wired v2, Ego, The Doctor, dd7, rv5, Orange Rocker15 Terror, Vox NT15H, Randall 2x12 cabs...... Love my Orange, Love my Hot Wired !!!!
@@danielguitar5150 You'll have to ask Fender. Maybe they forgot that bit when they were designing the headstock for the Fender special release Tele -- it's not in regular production.
@@amirkhalid5449 seems a strange thing, because if you look up "Squier FSR Bullet Telecaster Surf Green" the headstocks are clearly different, but what looks like the same guitar.
Great video Brian! I remember meeting you at that store for the first time when I was still working there. Though I still stop in there fairly frequently, this video brought back a lot of memories. If it were me building said budget rig, I would have swapped the Ibanez Delay for a TC Electronic The Prophet Digital Delay just because I’m more of a digital delay kind of guy, and for $69 that one is FANTASTIC. TC Electronic MojoMojo and Dark Matter would have been in heavy consideration for budget overdrive and distortion respectively, but just to add in some other brands I’d probably end up with an EHX Soul Food for $78 and maybe a Boss DS-1 for $59 or so. I’d also need a chorus pedal because I love chorus, so since the Digitech Luxe is now discontinued, in the interest of budget, I’d have the GC folks order me an Outlaw Effects Vigilante Chorus off of their website since they don’t carry it in-store. For a guitar, I’d probably go with either a Schecter or a Sterling since I think both of those companies make top-notch quality guitars across all price points, or maybe a good-playing Ibanez in the $300 range. For an amp, I think I’d probably try to find a Bugera something-or-other in the $200-300 range as there’s plenty of them. I can get away with two channels and I don’t need all of the on-board effects, so volume, gain, and EQ would likely be plenty for me. And effects loop would also be a bonus, but I can get along without it it necessary.
I didn't know what tone was until I put a tumnus in front of my dark terror. Love the fact that Brian is such a personable guy. Thanks for the awesome pedals.
I have your Ecstasy (script logo) and have used it in different rigs. It never leaves my pedal board. Sounds Great, no matter what you put it through. Thank You Sir!
Budget rig to gig with next please Brian. You do such abroad range of videos that IMHO appeal to guitar players of all levels of ability and ...levels of nerdiness. You come across to me as my knowledgeable best mate. Thank you. On a budget and for jam nights I like the Joyo pedals. The Ultimate distortion (OCD) boosted by the Vintage overdrive (TS) with their analogue delay pedal. Reverb comes from the Blackstar Amp. Gibson Les Paul studio with coil tap. My gig rig gain stages are a Tumnus, a Mooer Dark Secret (RAT) and an Electro Harmonix Crayon. (my favourite). Marshall Origin 50 set very clean and a Gibson Les Paul classic with coil split/tap ? I also like the Boss Adaptive Distortion. I don't really know what I am doing with all this stuff but it is fun messing about and my wife lets me. Keeps me out of trouble. ;-)
I think if I were trying to start out on guitar these days I’d probably go the helix route. The HX stomp is what like $600? That gets you everything you could want but a guitar, and with a good squier you could have a full rig for around $800-900. I don’t regret my pedal collection by any means, and the helix certainly isn’t for everyone, but the convenience of it from a cost standpoint is just great.
Man, I love that Cinders! I wish I hadn't gotten rid of mine but my board is mostly dirt now so I'm not sure I can justify picking it up again. Thanks for this video, Brian!
Keith Shelley they’re 39.99 right now until tomorrow I believe 😊. I wish I had some extra scratch right now to get it. But I’ve already got a TC Dark Matter, Blues Driver and SD1 on the board.
Oh cool! I have spent a lot of dough at that castleton Guitar Center! I moved to central Florida, and the GC near me carry so little. Castleton has so many guitars, including custom shop and core PRS models. I would love to go back and visit!
Is it heretical to suggest Joyo and Behringer pedals when assembling a budget rig? Until I had more money I invested in a good used Les Paul, a Fender Deluxe Reverb amp, and cut corners on $29 cloned versions of expensive pedals. I am still unwilling to compromise on my guitar and amp but if a $29 pedal craps out I consider it disposable.
Not at all. The cheaper pedals today sound good, they just don't last with heavy use. I wish we had had those back in the day. The early 90's was all cheap versions of classic pedals that sounded bad. I had one of those TS808/TS9 pedals, and it broke in a few years. The DS1 and PH-2 I got decades ago still work. Now, I know a DS1 isn't like a vintage big muff or anything, but if you have reasonable expectations, those $30 dollar pedals will hold you over until you can get something tougher.
I picked up a Squier Affinity Telecaster after hearing Johan Segeborn playing his on his channel. I had to smooth a couple fret ends, but damn that guitar sounds great! It's so simple too, it rarely goes out of tune. The Classic Vibe series is awesome if you have more cash to spend. I love my Classic Vibe 50s Strat, and there's no I-like-it-but's about it. Amps are very much personal taste for what it does best for your needs, but you can't really go wrong with that Blackstar, or Katana, and the new Fender Champion 50XL. That Fender surprised the hell out of me in the videos. My most budget amp at the moment is an old Marshall Lead 12 :)
Andy Yates I’ve been wanting a tele for awhile but find it hard to justify a VM. Is the Affinity decent? If it’s trash I don’t mind spending the couple hundred extra, it if it’s acceptable, I’d rather save my money.
It helps to place the delay pedal between the two distortions. That way, when you stack the two distortions, you get a great sound that can only be gotten with that order. Very helpful, Brian! Thanks.
The ID Core amps have what Blackstar calls "super wide stereo delay", where the dry signal comes directly from the amp in front of you, and the delay comes from way beyond the amp on the left and right sides. It's amazing that they can get it to do that by playing with the phase of the delay signal! It seems almost like magic when you hear it and you think to yourself "how do they do that with only two speakers in the amp right in front of you?", and even the $100 ID Core 10 and $150 ID Core 20 have it.
Thank you Brian! As always great stuff from you and the great people at wampler. This subject has been a hot one on all the pages lately and awesome to see you tackling it.
Great choices Brian. All my pedals are "vintage". They were new, over the counter at the time I bought them. I watched the whole video waiting for you to breakout "Stairway"
I subscribed to Brian's email newsletter back when he was just selling pedal mod instructions in the early 2000s . I modded several pedals from his stuff. Cool dude, would love to meet him since I'm an eternal guitar tweaker geek. I've got the Tumnus on my blues board and it's identical to an original that I A/B'ed it with except for a bit more low mid response. Thanks, Brian for being a straight up guy.
A EHX Memory Toy with Modulation ( added chorus effect) is at $92, plus I would choose the TCE Mojomojo and Dark Matter for less than $50 apiece to cut costs even more. Plus you could go with a Boss Katana 50-112 for $229.
That's my local store! I kept thinking that everything looks familiar but brushed it off thinking that it's a common design then I saw the picture of SRV in the entrance and KNEW it was my store. So cool. I didn't know Wampler was an Indy guy. Have to look for him from now on.
Just bought that same guitar as a ''modding'' platform. Ernie ball strings, 1/4 turn on the truds rod, tuned, intonated, ...and this thing sounds amazing! Gonna leave the pickups in and just install bigger pots, clean up the frets, and she'll be good to go. DANG! Now i have to find a different guitar to mod.....
We're living in such a golden age! When I was 18, the pink Ibanez AD80 (18V) had just come out, and it had only 300ms max delay time, and it cost a bloody fortune. You kids don't know how good you have it! That mini thing has double the delay time at a third of the price.
Mexi Tele and Boss Katana 100 is my foundation rig. The clean channel with the built in effects to me sounds amazing. The OD's, delays, reverbs all sound great to me. Now I'm slowing building up pedals which the amp takes great as well. We live a great age for hobby guitarists for sure.
I really appreciate your takes and tutelage. Im like a monkey turning knobs n pushing buttons. I have a pedal board(love my mini tumnus) I use for my other amps Fly3, runt20, Bassbreak15 ,THR10X,. My Katana 50 no effects loop Fills the Swiss army Amp needs, simple and really great editor. When I just want to plug in, play and have fun! Rec out 1/4 inch into my Focusrite212 delivers some surprisingly effective accurate tones for simple recording too! Great Stuff Brian Thanks for taking the time!
I loved this episode! I would like to see one in a pawn shop! Please include the haggling over prices and how to know if the pedals, Guitar and amp are fully functional.
Budget means something different to everyone; but if I were putting a rig together at Guitar Center for under $1,000 it would probably be: Squier Affinity Telecaster Vox AC10 MXR Dyna Comp Mooer Blues Crab Boss DD-7 That would actually be a pretty fun rig.
Nice rig. I would go: - Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster - Fender Super Champ or Peavey Classic 30 (depending how much power you'd need)-Vox Wah-EHX Triangle or Russian Muff Reissue-EHX Soul Food-RAT -MXR Phase 90-TC Electronic Gauss (Tape) or Prophet (digital) DelayAny leftover budget for GOOD QUALITY cables!
Great video! Your honesty is much appreciated. Speaking of honesty, the Squier FSR Bullet Telecaster is one of my faves - it’s definitely the guitar that Ralph Macchio would have played at the end of Crossroads if it was filmed today!
I'm gonna be building a board for $250 when Christmas rolls around. Need power supply, a couple of patch cables, and of course the pedals. Using a Boss Katana 50. What do y'all think?
@@jasonthebedroomguitarist451 I'm happy with the 50 and can't use the Tone Central because of how bad my computer is. Do you think it's possible to build a good board for $250.
@@jasonthebedroomguitarist451 I want 1 or 2 dirt pedals, delay, maybe a reverb pedal. Play country, blues, and rock. Probably will buy some pedals off of Reverb.
Blake Wicklein it may be easier to get the Katana Footswitch. But, if you want, look into the Tech 21 Fly Rig, the Boss ME-80 or the Zoom G3 or G5. Used they run anywhere from $125-$200. It’s more than you need and you have options going forward. I have the ME-80 personally and it’s a great little investment. I wanted the Fly Rig, but couldn’t find the old Cali one and got the Boss instead. Not disappointed either.
This is a great idea, and I'm glad that the TH-cam algorithm pushed it my way. Now, 2 years later, I would sub out the Ibanez the delay for the JHS 3-series Delay. The Cinders is cool. It is a Blues Driver clone. I might go for an Electro Harmonix Hot Wax in place of both drive pedals, but I like both of your choices. I would lean toward a Katana 50 for the amp. Nothing at all wrong with a Squier Tele for an entry level guitar. I think you chose well with that one.
Nice rig! Could you build budget guitar rig with small tube amp with own good overdrive or distortion? What you think about buying an multieffect instead stomp boxes? I am consider to buy an inexpensive tube amp like Jet City or Bugera with used multieffect like TC Electronic G-Major or new Zoom g3/ Boss GT-1. I'm also thinking about getting the "all-in-one solution" like a Line 6 Stomp HX. Idk what should I choose.
A “great guitarist” to me, is any player that can do something musical and great-sounding with commonly available stuff anybody within reason can buy, and who can find a way make great music out of it. Brian, you’re a great guitar player.
Brian in my opinion one of your best videos. I own a ‘68 DRRI, wampler ego and clarksdale 2. I want a delay or tubes next. Budget is that Ibanez. Defiantly want a little more.
Darn! Now I feel the urge to buy more gear. I think i need to try the Blackstar 1 watt combo amp. And oh, my favorite delay is the Faux Tape Echo from Wampler!
I kind of did this exact thing a while back for a friend. I would have gone with a Strat over a Tele because I find them more versatile, especially after wiring the 2nd tone pot to the bridge pickup. Also, unless the player is only planning on bedroom playing then I always would go tube amp. When I did this I found a used Egnater Tweaker 40 for like $350 sounded great. Clean add OD pedal for grit, 2nd channel for crunch, add OD on top for solo. Squier strat was like $200. Add a Dunlop Echoplex Delay pedal and a EHX Nano Reverb in the loop and a Tubescreamer style pedal and I can do about any gig for about the same price as the budget rig here. Get a used wah and maybe a used chorus pedal to add a little color down the road and call it a day. Fun video though, thanks for posting.
Great Choices there Brian! My only real swap out would be to get a TC Electronics Echo Brain instead of the Ibanez Analog Delay and use the $60 savings to get a Golden Plexi or TS Clone for boost.
Especially if you're just starting out and you may need the flexibility for covers, or you just don't know what "your sound" is... Blackstar's ID series are actually fantastic. It's a totally different take on modelling. Channel type choices with power tube voicings. I ran an ID30 for 5 years until 1. I settled on "I want a Marshall", and 2. Marshall came back to some measure of sanity and made the Origin series. Can still use the ID30 for wet/dry.
Love the Budget Friendly Demo and Review! Please keep up the Good Work! (Of course I would have thrown in one of YOUR Overdrive pedals as they are GREAT in my opinion)!
Brian, you shred good enough to leave the tuner on the neck. Amp sugestion: next time check out the Bugera amps. I bought one and love it. Tube amp with lots of features. The Bugera vintage22 is about $450 at Guitar Center. I use it as a second amp in a (sort of) stereo thing. I run a Quidley as my first amp. I bought them both from GC.( Quidley was used,of course and you wont find one anywhere). Both amps love my new Paisley Deluxe pedal that just arrived today though. Also, I like leaving my tuner on my neck and turn it on when I bend notes. I can see if I'm flat or sharp and its improved my bend technic lots.
Cool video..I would buy a Classic vibe tele or a Harley Benton and a little 1 or 5 watt tube amp (Back Star Ht )with an extra 1x12 cab..pedals I would follow your ideas certainly but a tube screamer a echoplex pre amp and a compressor would be cool and a delay and a reverb, what else, did I miss some..
Great video and production. Nice to see you out of the studio. I would have stuck to a simple valve amp. Thanks for the great ideas! Home player with a Traynor 40, blues driver, ProCo Rat, echoplex delay and HOF reverb amongst many other pedals.
It’s funny, I walked into my local GC about a year ago looking for a much more expensive guitar and walked out with that Tele. I put some pickups from a MIJ 50’s Tele I used to own in it and updated the electronics. Great guitar for the money.
Awesome! I put together a Harley Benton Deluxe Tele along with a fender mustang iii v2 I found on Craigslist total cost under 400 and very happy with the sounds I'm getting
Blackstar TVP series are even more underrated. They have thr same options plus multiple power tube models which are really really close to the real deal.
Hi Brian, I'm a faithful Pinnacle Deluxe user. I would've like to hear the OD pedals on top of the crunch channels of the amp but I'm also of the opinion, OD pedals on a digital amp never really have that true distortion you get with that same pedal pushing a tube amp. So if I were to purchase this blackstar, my floor rig would skip any ODs and Distortion pedals and be filled with other modulation effects, ie: flanger, phaser, wah, etc. and perhaps your Ego compressor mini, a truly amazing tool!
What would I do? Hmm... I'm a 58 year old regular guy with a regular job, twin boys both finishing their undergrad in about a week or so. A high school senior daughter who will be starting her undergrad in the fall. I'd like to retire at some point but I'll be helping with student loans. My gear collection is a work in progress that has taken 35 years or so. If my house burned to the ground tomorrow, I think I'd just hang it up because I wouldn't have a dime to spend on stuff. It's a shame too because (and I'm proud to say) my chops are the best they've ever been. I started out as a drummer (and still play). Picked up guitar kind of late. Buying a pedal for me is getting past feeling like I'm being selfish, sweet talking the wife (who doesn't understand at all), basically most times having to sacrifice my want for a household need. When I do buy a pedal, I hate to compromise but do sometimes. I currently have 4 (count 'em) 4 pedals in my rig all of which I love: a Morley Bad Horsie wah, a BBE Soul Vibe, a Boss DS-1 (no, they do not suck) and a Danelectro French toast octave fuzz. Yes, it's kind of Hendrixy/Trowery. I have hopes for a delay at some point. I'd like a nice analog one that can make cool space ship noises (Tommy Bolin w/Billy Cobham, Quadrant 4). My point here is that I'd bet most people watching this video are like me. Maybe not age-wise but people that do more dreaming than doing simply because it costs money. And yes, for some of us it's a bitch to cough up $100 let alone $200 or $300.
I wish my parents would have helped me through school. I just sold a delay pedal on Friday, but I would have sent it to you for nothing if I'd read this first. You deserve it. My advice is to squirrel away a little bit of money to spend on yourself from time to time. Pedals are wonderful things because they can inspire you, and since expressing yourself through music is good for you mentally, I see that as more of an investment in your well-being rather than a luxury.
@@JohnBrown-z2u You're a good man Dustin Anderson. I'll get my delay some day soon. I just re-read my post and thought, "boy, do I sound overly melodramatic." I think I was just trying to get a point across. I think pedals in general are overpriced ...especially the "boutique" ones.
Great video Brian. Now next time let's do the Amazon Budget Rig. Squire Affinity. Monoprice 15w tube amp. Mosky Golden Horse. Joyo Ultimate Drive. X-Vive Memory Delay. Donner Mod Square.

Cool video as always, Brian!
If I were to build a budget rig I’d go with:
Squire Classic Vibe Strat
Fender Blues Jr
Polytune Mini
Boss Blues Driver
Tubescreamer Mini
TC Flashback Delay Mini
If you were on a tight budget, I would:
Swap the FBJ for a used Ampeg Jet T reissue, excellent cleans, onboard Trem and Spring Reverb;
Behringer clones for drive and delay (straight TS and Boss DD copies);
Tone City's cheapo Klon copy as clean boost, and;
Korg PB mini just as a personal preference (slightly cheaper too).
That's not far off what I actually use. Just fewer pedals.
Seeing as how pedals are being used for gained sounds, I would have opted for the cheapest clean tube amp.😉
@Dylan Gruenloh exactly. "Tube" doesn't automatically make it good.
Totally agreed!!
Yeah and the rest from your tube amp.😉
Thanks, Brian! Love teles, liked the blackstar a d the cinder od pedal, they were both new to me. Cheers.
I'm a home player (pretty good one) and I use modded squiers and a decent board with Orange Crush20rt and Vox Pathfinder 10 running together with the Radial Bigshot ABY into a desk mixer and out of studio monitors.
Works for me!
Dave Carpenter251 gotta love Orange !!
Absolutely
Strats, tele, Hot Wired v2, Ego, The Doctor, dd7, rv5, Orange Rocker15 Terror, Vox NT15H, Randall 2x12 cabs......
Love my Orange, Love my Hot Wired !!!!
Out of the barn! Woo-hoo! Great video Brian!
Signs of the Apocalypse, #12,486: "Hey, did you see that video where Brian Wampler plays a Squier Affinity into a Blackstar amp?"
That's not an Affinity. An Affinity Tele has the neck pickup mounted on the body; that one has it mounted on the pickguard. That's a Bullet FSR.
@@amirkhalid5449 What I want to know is why this specific "BULLET FSR" doesn't say "BULLET" on the headstock like every other other bullet model.
Ummmm..that is a Squier Bullet...
I have both that guitar and that amp for a couple years. Great way to play around with pedals without breaking the bank. Thanks for the vid.
Thank You Sir!
clip-on tuners look way less lame if you clip them so that the display is BEHIND the headstock.
You sir are a great guy. And far from a guitar snob. Top stuff
That's exactly what I was gonna comment! Compared to getting multiple cheapish pedlas + power + patches, the stomp id def the all around best choice.
Great episode. Looks like a cool guitar center too
By the way, best bang for your buck? Tumnus Deluxe
All great choices! I own the '78 distortion & love that pedal. Marshall in a can & not too expensive.
Hands down my favorite distortion.
Seriously tempted by the FSR Bullet Tele.
David Ozab I have that exact one. Stellar for the $$$
ABOUT TIME!!!... LOL Wicked video as usual Mr. Wampler. Have a gig tomorrow and getting PSYHCEH for rehearsals tonight. Thanks for the vid.
Oh cool! I have spent a lot of dough at that castleton Guitar Center! I moved to central Florida, and the GC near me carry so little. Castleton has so many guitars, including custom shop and core PRS models. I would love to go back and visit!
I just left GC where they had a bunch of used Behringer pedals for $19.00 each.
GREAT VIDEO! I’m really impressed with the Blackstar amp. I recommend a VOX vt20+ since it has tons of effect options!
Yep, well, south of Indy actually.
I got to admit, I was expecting a Boss pedal in there but it was refreshing to see something else being used.
We're living in such a golden age! When I was 18, the pink Ibanez AD80 (18V) had just come out, and it had only 300ms max delay time, and it cost a bloody fortune. You kids don't know how good you have it! That mini thing has double the delay time at a third of the price.
All of the gear, no idea. Limitations are good sometimes, kids have too much choice.
I've tried a tube Blackstar amp before and that onboard distortion sounded awesome.
Another option to buy budget friendly gear is buy used.
Depends on what I was doing but probably:
Godin session guitar
Boss katana 50
Or
Traynor 20 watt tube amp with spring reverb
So cool! Thanks, Brian!
Cool! That is the same store where I bought my first Les Paul.
I loved this episode! I would like to see one in a pawn shop! Please include the haggling over prices and how to know if the pedals, Guitar and amp are fully functional.
Budget means something different to everyone; but if I were putting a rig together at Guitar Center for under $1,000 it would probably be:
Squier Affinity Telecaster
Vox AC10
MXR Dyna Comp
Mooer Blues Crab
Boss DD-7
That would actually be a pretty fun rig.
Bob Conklin you could cover all the bases with that rig.
@@antonr.2101 how much would that be?
Great video! Your honesty is much appreciated. Speaking of honesty, the Squier FSR Bullet Telecaster is one of my faves - it’s definitely the guitar that Ralph Macchio would have played at the end of Crossroads if it was filmed today!
I'm gonna be building a board for $250 when Christmas rolls around. Need power supply, a couple of patch cables, and of course the pedals. Using a Boss Katana 50. What do y'all think?
Blake Wicklein better buy the katana 100 with the foot controller
you wont be needing a pedalboard 😁
@@jasonthebedroomguitarist451 I'm happy with the 50 and can't use the Tone Central because of how bad my computer is. Do you think it's possible to build a good board for $250.
Blake Wicklein sure you can it depends on wht you need. also try looking at used gear
Brad Dietz Amen. Hendrix and EVH took the most common of gear available at the time and made some revolutionary music.
Wampler/Blackstar collaboration??? I would definitely buy that!!!
That amp is the real find. Thanks for this Brian. All of us woulda walked right past a modeling amp. At least, I would have.
very well done. That Blackstar amp is crazy and at what a price point.
Brian in my opinion one of your best videos. I own a ‘68 DRRI, wampler ego and clarksdale 2. I want a delay or tubes next. Budget is that Ibanez. Defiantly want a little more.
The MXR 78 Distortion pedal is actually super versatile, I'm able to jump through a number of genres with it
That Tele sounds great through the Blackstar even with just the camera mic! :)
Yeah it did! I was surprised myself! Great amp!
Darn! Now I feel the urge to buy more gear. I think i need to try the Blackstar 1 watt combo amp. And oh, my favorite delay is the Faux Tape Echo from Wampler!
Great, and really entertaining, video. It would have been cool if you had mentioned how much each pedal cost, and how much the entire rig cost.
How cool is that amp, loved to have that when I started playing. I had a squirer telecaster which came with a tiny 10w amp for about that price.
I wanted a new amp and so I went and found that id:core 100 and listened to it. I had to have it, the stereo effects sold me. Great recommendation!
Great Choices there Brian! My only real swap out would be to get a TC Electronics Echo Brain instead of the Ibanez Analog Delay and use the $60 savings to get a Golden Plexi or TS Clone for boost.
Jeremy Hale Totally! Good call!
@@erictoniaschwab1009 thanks!
This video is for the “all you can afford” crowd
Would love to see you try a Marshall Code
He's got a Squier Limited Edition Telecaster that even got down to $129 during the holidays. Great guitar for the money.
Love these vids, Keep them coming!!
Would Love a Mid-High gain pedal named, Wampler Meteor🤙🏽
Jagersmom the “meatier meteor” lol
Loved this video, of course I love most of them, however, this is awesome.
Blackstars stuff is fantastic, highly underrated. Great video.
I have an IFly micro amp. The distortion is amazing for the size of the speaker.
Blackstar TVP series are even more underrated. They have thr same options plus multiple power tube models which are really really close to the real deal.
Bri you have a great taste in guitars... like me 😁 lol
3:25 that green tele is mine!
Cool stuff to be had on a budget nowadays 😁!!!
I love the color of that telecaster.
nice amp, anyway, when you know the equipment, pedals how they work, you're done, you can get many good sounds out of anything basically.
Doesn’t the Black Star eliminate the need for pedals ? Is there a foot switch to utilize the on board effects ? Tap tempo maybe ? That’s a lotta money
Great video Brian. Now next time let's do the Amazon Budget Rig.
Squire Affinity. Monoprice 15w tube amp. Mosky Golden Horse. Joyo Ultimate Drive. X-Vive Memory Delay. Donner Mod Square.
I had squier classic vibe tele and a fender gdec 15 watt amp and loved the setup although I'm not a real musician, I just like to mess around at home
Blackstar is putting some kind of voodoo magic in those amps. Even the little fly amp sounds awesome.
That actually sounded really well. Those Squier Teles are good enough especially when you run it on a good amp.
The only thing I would have changed would be an Epiphone Les Paul. It's just personal preference. Thank you sir for the video!!
