When WDW opened up, there was a ride called "If You Had Wings" in Tomorrowland, that was essentially a huge Eastern commercial, telling you that "if you had wings" you could go to all these cool places, but alas, you DO have wings... thanks to Eastern Airlines. The ride wasn't all that great, but in the days where Disney rides took tickets (yes, that was a thing back in the day too), this one was free, and many of us rode it for that and it's air conditioning (hence Marge's "it's cool in here" comment) Eastern was the official airline of WDW in the early days, but got into financial trouble which caused them to ditch sponsorship for this ride (leading to its closing) and then ultimately go out of business.
The ride ended with a voice-over from Orsen Wells, and you exited past a ticket desk from which you could book a flight via an onsite Eastern Airlines agent. In the days before laser projection was a thing, I think that ride was actually quite clever with its use of film projection. I can still remember the sound of all the projectors running.
It got stripped down and rebuilt as "Delta Dreamflight' (delta having taken over the "offical airline" sponsorship), then as "take Flight" for a short while and then was completely redone into Buzz Lightyear. The ride sign above the entrance today is the Dreamflight sign panted over.
I'm pretty sure Simpsons fans would've understood that there's no joke unless Eastern was defunct (which it was in 1991, the year before "the future").

The electric car ride is actually based on "Ford's Magic Skyway" a ride Disney build for the World's Fair alongside It's a Small World and Carosel of Progress which was never brought to a Disney park afterwards because Ford wasn't interested. Instead they took some of the scenes and anamatronics from it and put it on the Railroad.

What’s funny is I’m actually a huge fan of EPCOT… and while I can tell they couldn’t use actual attractions because funny and legal reasons (seriously? Calling Spaceship Earth the Future Sphere?) this is hilariously spot on. In fact in many cases the Sponsors had so much sway that Kodak who sponsored Journey Through Imagination and the photo ops, actually blocked The Japan Pavilion from getting a MT Fuji themed Rollercoaster because they feared mentioning anything with the Name Fuji was free advertising for their competitor, Fujifilm.
To be fair, the best electric cars in 1965 didn't go much farther than 30 miles on a full charge, so it's easy to see why gas companies didn't think highly of them. Also, as a fun little nitpick, Happy Together came out in 1967, two years after that ride was built.
Better existed, they simply didn't make it, battery tech didn't improve until just a few years ago, so 150 mile cars could have existed 20+ years ago on the same tech
At a museum in Denver I once saw an electric car built in 1911 that had a range of 100 miles. (Of course, the top speed was 25 mph, but that was not abnormal at the time. Beats walking - or even riding a horse.)

They are slow leisurely rides, were part of the fun is being able to take a look at scenery around you. It has been awhile since I played Rollercoaster Tycoon, but if you are having problems with people not enjoying those rides maybe you are making the rides too long. Or maybe you do not have enough decorative around the track. That is the best advice I can give without having played any of those games recently.

Except the satire is directed more at the gas companies for cartoonishly disparaging electric cars rather than electric cars themselves.

I had no idea Liberty Prime from Fallout 3 made an appearance in the Simpsons universe. Albeit with a different head.
It's actually the Body of the iron giant front the film of same name....except with a passenger jet for a head, you were close, as it's still a famous giant robot of near unstoppable death and destruction.
The episode also predates that game by 5 years

The car ride reminds me of the one you can build in rollercoaster tycoon, it's very slow and very boring but for some reason also very popular until they get on that is lol
@@velvety2006 I have played rollercoaster tycoon. I know what rides you are speaking of, and have ridden such rides in real life. They are not intended to be long rides. They are slow leisurely rides, were part of the fun is being able to take a look at scenery around you.
It has been awhile since I played Rollercoaster Tycoon, but if you are having problems with people not enjoying those rides maybe you are making the rides too long. Or maybe you do not have enough decorative around the track. That is the best advice I can give without having played any of those games recently.
