In my opinion I think the saddest episode is the episode where Homer's mother dies ITS ONLY BECAUSE OF THAT DAMN HEART BREAKING SCENE WHERE HOMER WANTED TO SAY SORRY TO HIS MOM BY MAKING A CARD BUT THEN WHEN HE TRIED TO IT WAS REVEALED THAT SHE WAS DEAD 😭
Homer staring out into the stars at the end credit scene after his mother goes is the saddest scene. For a character like Homer to be deep in thought is shocking and sad. It hits even more after my own mother's passing.
For me the saddest episode was when Grampa falls in love with an elderly woman, they have a blast and then she dies, leaving him all her fortune. I still remember Grampa being so broken.
I remember he was angry at Homer because he wanted to attend Bea's birthday party at the retirement home, but Homer was insisted on taking Grandpa on a safari instead. When he finally made it back to the retirement home, his friend Jasper told him that she died during the night. He was so upset that he wouldn't speak to Homer for a long time.
Homer and his mom was always the saddest arc the simpsons ever did. Just told story of never having enough time together and when they did finally have it homer rejected it because he didnt wanna feel the hurt if she left again but when he was ready to accept it it was to late.
I like this channel. It gets right into the heart of the matter instead of waffling for 4 minutes before even touching the subject. The voice is unique and doesnt have that "iceberg video voice". It uses the clips appropriately, and doesn't overly distract you with some talking avatar, plushies memes, or some gameplay, or highlighing every single word
4:25 forgot to mention the most important part of that scene, when Homer waves goodbye he doesn't immediately go back home, instead he sits on his car, starting at the stars while the credits roll
Im so sorry to hearded that I lost my dad( few years ago) too. Its bit interesting how way we look this longest cartoon show chances everytimes our life chances too
for me the saddest would be the episode where it's discovered that Homer had a dog as a child, and he had to give it away or it'd be killed. When he goes to visit it, he sees it's having fun without him, and Homer assumes his dog had forgotten him. After Grampa Simpson explains everything, he gives Homer a photo of the dog when it's grey and old, still sleeping on Homer's old sweater by the fire. Homer was the one who forgot about his dog.
When Abe gets unexpected money from a short lived relationship with Bea after she dies, he selflessly invests it into the retirement home. Abe is otherwise typically obnoxious.
Dude, I havent seen the Simpsons in, like, 12 years, I clicked here on a whim, forgetting about the Blowfish episode. Straight up crying when I should be doing dishes.
I love how the earlier episode of The Simpsons where sad (really, go back and watch them, season 1). Sure, there was comedy, but usually Homer and Marge weren't an unhappy couple akin to the one in Married with Children, they were unhappy, period, but Homer always learned of his mistakes and tried to be a good father and husband. Sadly, ironically, as the years passed the show degraded into only showing the family (and the town) as one dimensional characters.
Let us face it the newer episodes have downgraded in quality, story telling and emotion, the new episodes are just trying to make us laugh instead of the older seasons making us cry, warming our hearts and making us think.
Actually, recently in the newest season there's an episode that artistically and realistically portrays Marge's feelings as a mother and her inability to grapple with the fact her children will grow up and leave. It's a beautiful episode with wonderful animation as well as voice acting and a really fun look into Marge's emotions and her genuine and strong feelings toward her kids! The most recent seasons of Simpsons is starting a really good come back and it's surprising not many know that! The past 5 seasons seem to deal with good emotional stories in general so I'd encourage seeing them :0)
@@eleanorhogan8643 that's fair but I implore you to dive deeper into more modern Simpsons if you wanna accurately talk about the show and it's later/more modern seasons!! There's a lot of good fun material people look over simply because it's a newer style of comedy!! I also feel like there's no shame in saying the show isn't for you anymore! I mean we all outgrow media and especially something like the Simpsons, your generation might've had a different outlook on the series! However, as someone who's part of the demographic of the show currently, I adore it! I love how the show has evolved and I think it's getting into an amazing place nowadays! The next season seems promising as well! I respect your opinion, but I think now is a good time to watch some of the newer episodes as I, and some diehard Simpsons fans here on YT, think it's made a great comeback with lots of heart and creativity!!!! :0)
Before I knew much about the Simpsons I thought that homer was a bad father but after watching this video I realized how much he truly cares about his kids and wife
These were older episodes where Homer, despite being dumb and impulsive, had a good heart. Then they flanderised his character and he became a dumb sociopath like Peter Griffin.
The scene of Homer staring at the stars perfectly caps off that episode, it’s not a tearjerker but it’s a powerful moment. The little fig newton song and “i thought i dreamed that kiss” are so sweet.
I think my opinion on the saddest The Simpsons episode is the one where the mother of Homer dies, that was a really emotional and sad episode. The fact Homer was going to apologize to her but then hears the awful news that she died. But also Mother Simpson where Homer reunites but has to say goodbye to his mother once more. Homer then sits staring at the stars on the hood of his car with the credits rolling it's just sad.
It was Kiddie Prozac (Manic-Depressive Mouse or the Bluebird of Unhappiness), not vitamins. I love all these episodes so much and you did a great job summarising them!
The sad one that makes me sad is the one where homer has another baby called Homer Jr and has to leave the baby because Marge gets mad that he's with another girl. But, he just delivered the baby and got attached to it
One episode that was sad for me but doesn’t get enough credit (since it was after the “Classic era”) was The Blunder Years when Mr. Burns tells The Simpsons that the Dead corpse Homer found was Smithers dad who got radiation poisoning from saving the town from a nuclear meltdown and then he never wanted to tell Smithers but was standing there the whole time The flashback part seeing Mr. Burns and Smithers as a Baby watching his dad die (which I know he was an infant but still could’ve been traumatizing) along with the line where he goes “Well at least he died a hero” still hits me in the feels. Still isn’t as sad as maybe Classic sad episodes like Mother Simpson, Marge be not Proud or 1 Fish, 2 Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish but it still shows even for awhile after the “Golden era” ended there were still some heartfelt episodes (at least until the series went HD)
13:21 the plat is covered with maggie's pic changing the sentence from "dont forget you're here forever" to "do (i)t for her" is a very heart warming setting❤
In my opinion I think the saddest thing is we do not know what happened to Mr Bregstrom or where he went, I was curious about what happened to him and where he went.
A newer one. My gf loves Simpsons more than I do lol. She'll watch EVERY EPISODE, as opposed to me who usually stays on the classics for rewatch. She had never seen Dairy Queen before at this point, but I was in absolute tears bawling during and after this episode. At that point it was only a year after my Dads death, and all the feels hit me so hard. Thank God my partner was there and for all her comfort.
Did anybody notice at 13:25 the sign said do it for her? Oh and the Mr bergstrom episode I did the same thing without having a crush ofc But I miss him to this day
I think the saddest episode is when marge realises she wont have her children forever and then has a horrible nightmare about it. This episode made me cry most of the time bu atleast it had a happy ending.
I would rate "One Fish Two Fish Blowfish Blue Fish" as the saddest episode in my opinion. I can understand why he didn't want to break the news to his kids because he wanted his last hours with them to be on a happy note. My favorite funny moment was when Homer tried to make a video for Maggie! The camera recorded him scratching his butt while yelling for Bart to get the phone! 😂
As soon as Bart starts crying at getting an F I well up every time, it’s so heartbreaking seeing him have to face that his not doing well isn’t just a lack of trying.
Oddly enough, the only episode that gets me a bit weepy is Lisa's first word. Specifically the very ending where Maggie says "Daddy" just as soon as Homer leaves the room. Like...just the fact that none of his kids even called him "Dad" at the beginning but just called him by hist first name, and that it's her first and to the day her ONLY word she's ever spoken in canon and that he will NEVER know. Just...that whole thing just gets me for some reason.
With the Fugu episode, Homer wanted to do things with his kids but ended doing most of them with his dad instead. It's the last time we see father and son act like father and son.

And beginning with Homer Goes To College, it would constantly continue to be shown more often. Man. Talk about being stabbed in the back.
Another sad one was where Homer's dad fell in love with a woman from his retirement home. Thr two had a relationship but sadly she passed on. What made me tear up is when Homer's dad rode a roller coaster with his lady friend's spirit before she crossed over I believe😢
I'm glad that her spirit paid Grandpa a visit because she was able to convince him to reconcile with Homer. He pretty much disowned him after Bea's death because he didn't get to be there during her last moments.
A different type of sad, but the season one episode where he loses his job, smashes Bart’s piggy bank for beer money and then goes to kill himself is so sad. Episode turns around from there but man… his kids read the note and had to hurry out into the night to save him
man patty and selma.....like I can get they don't like homer but I would have thought they would care for marge to the point they would have known that was a really nasty thing to do.
