@@Pax_Christi_Tecum I tried to kill myself when I was 12 years old. I ended up with a scar on my chest. I think never confessed it. One day I read a book by then Bishop Wuerl, of all people. He said suicide was a mortal sin. I was 30 years old and realized attempted suicide was a sin too and I had been receiving Holy Communion all that time. I decided to confess it. The priest was wonderful and asked a lot of questions. As I left the church, I felt like I was floating until I got to the sidewalk outside. A nagging voice kept telling me that I wasn't forgiven and the priest didn't understand. I told God that I need a sign. I felt so guilty about my doubts. When I was getting ready for bed that night, my husband said, "Hey, what happened to the scar on your chest?" It was new skin like a newborn's. I carried that scar for 18 years. He gave me a sign that left no doubt. Go to confession, everyone. God bless you! I still tear up about it.
Every second of this video made me cry. May God bless all who involved in this projects. Many years to you, Fr. Chris! My Lord, IC XC, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
God Bless you Dear Father! I’ve had several disturbing experiences in confession over my 70 years. The priests were not forgiving or helpful. Pray for me.
@CatholicDefender-bp7myYes, that's exactly what I do, write things down, because it's so easy to forget, but I always make sure I say for those sins and all the sins I have committed that I can't remember, I am truly sorry. But always confess the worst that you remember, because if you knowingly omit them Jesus won't forgive because the Priest is not a mind reader.
This is a very important explanation. For such an important sacrament and probably very misunderstood & underutilized, we must go, we must become strong and we must encourage others also. I’m praying to get over the nervousness and have courage to go.
Father Chris. ..thank you for this BEAUTIFUL video on confession!! I was so taken aback when you placed the stole over the the head and gave the explanation!! THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL AND SO MEANINGFUL!! Thank you so much! I look forward to more videos from you. Blessings!!!
Confession is A GREAT SACRAMENT! And no one should be afraid. We bathe everyday to clean our physical bodies. We need to clean our soul which is much more important with confession!
I've only had one bad confession. I realized that I had far more understanding than the priest. This is backwards. He let it be known that he equated all suffering with evil and said that God never sends us suffering. My thought was, "What about the cross?" I know God loves me, and sometimes love hurts but it's always for my benefit
They only do that in the Eastern Rite Catholic Church. In the Latin, or Roman, Rite, usually Confession is in the confessional, but even if face to face, the priest doesn’t put anything on your head. So you won’t need to remind the priest about that. They know what to do, according to the Rite.
I love this. I am Anglican and always love that at the end of the sacrament, our priests say 'Pray for me, a sinner'. To me, that humble sentence brings it full circle and reminds me of how mercifully I feel toward my priest. I did not know that was ever said in the 'regular' Catholic Church. I want to learn more about the Byzantine Rite of the Catholic Church. Thank you, father, for explaining this.
'Pray for me, a sinner' is not written in the latin catholic ritual. But I very frequently ask penitents who confess to me to pray for me. Hearing confession is to be a witness to an act of grace for people who seek sanctification. It is very, very humbling for the priest.
I live that in the eastern tradition confession is at the foot of the altar, the source of forgiveness and justification. There is a reason for the confessionnal in latin tradition, but the price is that we lost this beautiful symbolism. The iconostasis is a key factor, of course...
@@paulgrassart8935 I agree: I went to Roman Catholic school (until I was paroled. JK), and I was required to participate even though my parents stated that I was Methodist. I went to confession as a result, and while telling someone my sins was a relief, I always felt very empty. In contrast, I adore the penitential rite in the Episcopal Church: I kneel at the altar rail, my first priest used to kneel on the inside of the altar rail, facing but next to me. Then we would go through the rite, and he always offered counsel so I was heard and guided. He would then lay a hand on my head as he gave absolution. Every element of this 'form' comes together to mean the world to me, and I crave it when I need it. My most recent confessor traced the sign of the cross on my forehead as he spoke the words of absolution, and I felt almost overwhelmed with a sense of being washed clean. The Holy Spirit was there in that moment: it was sacred, and I wouldn't trade that feeling for anything in the world. I felt so free afterward.
@@paulgrassart8935 Thank you for responding, father. Does that mean the phrase was added when the Book of Common Prayer was put together? I also always wonder what my priest is feeling. Thank you for offering that insight. It is comforting.
@@paulgrassart8935 Yes, in the Anglican church, our private confession is also at the altar rail. I adore that symbolism as if to bring my pain to the foot of the cross. My first confessor kneeled on the other side of the altar, facing outward but next to me, not straight in front of me. More recently, my confessor was seated inside the altar rail. Either way, I find the rite deeply moving and cathartic. I have never once regretted going to confession. I am thankful for the peace it brings me.
As a Roman Catholic, I've never confessed over a screen, though older booths are present if we were moved to use them. I've always confessed very similarly to how this video depicts, and I really like it.
Keep going back, Vonnie. No one wants you to feel discouraged and stop going more than the enemy. I didn't go for more than 30 years and Father Mark Beard was 100% right, one confession is greater than a hundred exorcisms. I can't recommend watching his homilies enough. Sadly he passed away last year but luckily theres a couple hundred or more of his homilies on youtube. The fact that you went, want to keep going and are searching for and watching these kinds of videos is huge. Keep going, and to Adoration as well as often as you can. You're in my prayers.
Yes. Go back to confession, but ONLY If you find a priest you can trust. Priests are sinners like us, some really struggle with their brokenness and are not able to put that to one side. So they hurt.
Vonnie, speak directly to God and Jesus. The papacy is the devil. False teachings. Confess to Jesus and know for sure your go straight to heaven. Purgatory is a creation of the Catholic Church.
@@vonniestanchfield2849 why go back when. God is with us all any where we are one day soon your realise you don't need to do it hope it's soon as your being brain washed ?
When Jesus fell 3 time's in His Passion... To His knees. On His elbow and flat pn His face! Each of which i feel representative of the depths a sinner falls... He literally fell to every level. Including falling, hitting a rock and landing in the Cedron. Jesus can look us in the eye as we fall at any level and awaits our return.
I wish I could find the priest who is the best for me to confess to. I need to discuss and confess, but that's not confession. We are all different and we can be discouraged if not acceptable to the situation, and are told not to keep confessing sins of the past, but we know God has forgiven but we need to be able to finish what we need to say, that doesn't always happen and you go away feeling you still need to confess, it may be scruples, but we still need guidance through these difficulties
You should find a spiritual director to meet with and talk to outside of Confession to help and discuss issues you have. I won't assume to know your habits but it's best to be quick when receiving Penance. Don't have a therapy session in there if there's a line behind you.
My priest would say I made a good Confession, but I'm self-conscious that I hem and haw or that I'm oblique. Last time was in a Byzantine church (Ruthenians) over the weekend. However, in any rite, I feel like I could be clearer.
The Good Thief made a great confession. He said to the other thief, 'We deserve this.' Then he said to Jesus, 'Remeber me when you come into Your Kingdom, Lord,' Jesus promised Him Paradise. Perfection is not at fault. ❤
I had a confession in Rome and the priest told me off instead and made me feel uncomfortable. I did not feel compassion from that priest and he blamed me instead for what I had done.
@@CatholicDefender-bp7my How do I know I am forgiven? My friend, I was forgiven for my sins when I believed, repented, and gave my life to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Scripture is very clear on this.... One is saved by Christ and kept by the Holy Spirit.... As far as church tradition Where in scripture do the apostles forgive sins of believers...? They don't Jesus was and is the propitation of all my sins...past...present and future Nothing more is needed, He alone is sufficient.
I went to a confession after 15-16 years a couple of months ago. The priest was having a dialogue with me instead of a one-way confession. The priest was like a good dad/big brother who gave me suggestions. Then I did a couple of confessions, but I noticed the other priest did not give me any feedback, it went from contrition to absolution. So I am not sure which one is better.
@@CanditoTrainingHQ Yes you are right.. I know both are valid :). On the last confession the priest kinda scolded me because of my sin. But that is exactly what I need, someone to remind me how to get rid of those sinful behaviour :)
From my experience in the Byzantine rite, it's the sign of the cross and a short prayer. I can't recall what but the penitent is supposed to say the act of contrition.
I can always tell a good priest from a bad one because, during my confessions, I feel God radiating from the priest and I cry about being sinful...I've also had some TERRIBLE priests in confession who are openly defending sins and I feel worse when I leave.
Sometimes a priest might tell you that something is not a sin. I’ve known very holy priests who have said that nothing I confessed was sinful. Recently, for example, several things I confessed, the priest said were not sins; another he said was a sin of omission; and another, he called a “character defect.” I finally came up with something that must have passed muster, because he gave me absolution. I have known this priest a long time, and I consider him a living saint. I don’t know what your experience was, but I’d be careful before judging a priest is good or terrible, based on your feelings. They are often quite different from each other in Confession, and it could be a personality issue.
I like to start off with the small sins and then build up to the big sins. The build up has a dramatic effect and really shows how much of a sinner I am. A lot of times I have to say "I'm not done yet." I say to the priest sometimes, Father I have to warn you. I sin a lot. One time a priest said to me, sin is choosing not to do good. Then Father, I said, I should never leave this confessional because I always always chose what's in my best interest, which most of the time is bad for others but good for me. It's the American way.
We all sin, but if we are truly sorry, we have to make the decision for actually change ourselves and decide no matter what, to live for God completely. We have to live His Commandments, Church, Sacraments, Doctrine and Teaching. The evil one tries really hard to get us to abandon our efforts, but fight back and stand with our God. You are one of His warriors. CATHOLICS ARE BORN FOR COMBAT! I am a SOLDIER of CHRIST THE KING, under the command of ARCHANGEL MICHAEL, protected by the QUEEN OF HEAVEN. The SCAPULAR is my dog tag. The ROSARY is my sword. My shield?--GOD Himself!
Some insight/understanding would be greatly appreciated. What if you sinned deliberately after receiving the Truth where you fell under God’s wrath, punishment takes place where you’re given over to your sin and/or the workings of evil people (Romans 1:24-28, Matthew 5:13) and no sacrifice is left (Hebrews 10:26). How could confession be applicable to such a person or what hope could one possibly have through the parable of the Prodigal Son? In other words, the result of losing your Salvation and sense of connection to Christ (while still alive) occurs due to deliberate sin. Under such a spiritual death/condition, how is God’s infinite mercy still available to such a person/sinner in it’s infinitude? You always hear that Jesus Christ will forgive all sin (except blasphemy of the Holy Spirit) but then those verses I shared seem to suggest the opposite…how can one be forgiven through repentance if they fall under those verses and/or God’s Wrath (Divine Justice for deliberate sin with no sacrifice left)?
If you sin deliberately, knowing it’s wrong, that’s a mortal sin. If afterwards you repent, and are sincerely sorry, and don’t want to do it again, you can certainly be forgiven. Go to Confession. You might find yourself weeping when you didn’t expect to.
I don't feel I have to go and tell my sins I can sit in my home and ask for forgiveness because he already knows my sins I don't have to go and tell a person
@CatholicDefender-bp7my No you have another gospel, Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum *We have such an high priest who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens* A minister of *the sanctuary* and of the true tabernacle, *which the Lord pitched and not man* For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. (His life; "no greater love"...) For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests [Levitical] that offer gifts according to the law: Who serve unto the example and *shadow* of *heavenly things* as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make *the tabernacle* for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to *the pattern* shewed to thee in the mount. But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also *he* is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. *For if that first covenant had been faultless then should no place have been sought for the second* For *finding fault with them* he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; *I will put my laws into their mind and write them in their hearts* and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: {Hebrews 8:1-10} (Jer 31:31-33)
@CatholicDefender-bp7my Thy way, O God, is in thy sanctuary, who is so great a God as our God? {Psalm77:13} ...as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith God, that thou make all things according to *the pattern* shewed to thee in the mount. {Hebrews 8:5} The *sanctuary* [tabernacle] was a pattern of types and shadows of the heavenly temple, and Jesus Christ is the substance of those types and shadows. He is the door to the sanctuary; Jesus is the door to the Kingdom of heaven. He is the inner court surrounded by white linen; which is symbolic of being covered Christ prefect righteousness. He is our passover sacrificed for us on burnt alter for sacrifice. He is the laver for washing; symbolic of the rebirth, being born again of the Spirit. He is the table of Showbread; the two stacks of loves of bread are symbolic of the word of God (the bread of life) in two testaments / witnesses, also the twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve Apostles. He is the Lampstand; the oil being symbolic of his Spirit; the Lampstand symbolic of his light unto the world. He is our Altar of incense; making intercession for his saints. He is our Mercy seat covering the Ark of the covenant; Jesus is both our advocate standing for his saints with the Father and He is our judge in judment. Jesus Christ caused the sacrifices and their oblations to cease, (Dan 9:27) by his one perfect sacrifice. In contrast to the time of the Gentiles, wherefore the sanctuary of God is trodden under foot for forty and two months. How so? This church who calls herself the mother church, claims to be *the door* to salvation. And the white linen surrounding the inner court is the righteousness of Mary and the saints of the Roman church. She claims that Christ sacrifice and Atonement for sin was not sufficient, for she instituted seven (works) sacraments. She through infant baptism makes a mockery of the rebirth of the new man. Her Catechism thinks to replace the inspired word of God. Her prayers to dead saints and to Mary, thinks to replace Christ work of intercession at the altar of incense. Hers is a false spirit which thinks to cover the light of truth. This beast and her king think to change times and laws of God. And goeth into perdition.
Jesus Christ himself established the sacrament of confession with His Apostles, The new priests for God's new covenant. Jonh 19:20 He breathed on His Apostles head and said, the sins you forgive shall be forgiven the ones you retain shall be retained. We go to God, the way God established. Not by ignoring it and say we go straight to Jesus.
@@mariamartins5796 The Apostles are no longer with us. Jesus never chose any others to be his Apostles. I knew a friend that she has aborted her baby. She was struggling years and years for this sin and she finally took the courage to go to confession. The priest after hearing this sin stood up and with a loud voice pointing at her he said: MURDERER. Now tell me. Will you ever again go to confession or church after that? No.
Cradle Catholic of 60 years... NEVER ever have I heard of a Priest doing this,IF true she needs to report him for breaking his VOW in retaining sins of repentant.
The Bible is the inspired word of God. 1 Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;” Luke 1:46-47 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 1 Corinthians 10:4 “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.” 1 Samuel 2:2 “There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. Mark 7:7. “Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” 1 Timothy 4:3 “Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.” 2 Timothy 3:15 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. John 19:30 …it is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” Better to be a born again Christian and find a good home Bible study group.
What ever you say or think I'm right so don't try me your wasting your time I won't move from my opinion as I have free will as we all do and it's a gift from God? James
The opening statement is outrageous. Of course the priest is a judge. He has to understand the nature of the sin and the disposition of the person confessing before he can absolve. ‘Whose sins you shall retain they are retained.’ Dangerous Francis theological mush.
Wow! Where is the humiliation? Priest himself said he needs confession. Don’t you know the only way to holiness is through humility. What sin did Lucifer commit to get himself thrown out of Heaven? “Non Servium”. I will not serve humanity which was God’s design. The sin of PRIDE got him cast out of Heaven. Who was the most Holy Human to ever walk the Earth? The Blessed Virgin Mary! Why is she so Holy? Because of her great humility and love and Obedience to God. Hope this helps you! God Bless!
That’s right, the priest is in persona Christi so he is given the power to absolve sin through Christ. Jesus gave this gift to the apostles because he was leaving and needed men on earth to carry on his work. It is ultimately Jesus, but the priest says the words. Hope this helps x.

But always confess the worst that you remember, because if you knowingly omit them Jesus won't forgive because the Priest is not a mind reader.
Please, more video, Father, God bless you ❤️☦️

Confession is A GREAT SACRAMENT! And no one should be afraid. We bathe everyday to clean our physical bodies. We need to clean our soul which is much more important with confession!
I’ve never had a confession like that. It would be wonderful to experience it.
I've only had one bad confession. I realized that I had far more understanding than the priest. This is backwards.
He let it be known that he equated all suffering with evil and said that God never sends us suffering.
My thought was, "What about the cross?"
I know God loves me, and sometimes love hurts but it's always for my benefit
Step 1-Find a priest that’s interested in facilitating a good confession.
Thank You Father.
That bit of the priest placing the stoler on my head I'll definitely remind him.
They only do that in the Eastern Rite Catholic Church. In the Latin, or Roman, Rite, usually Confession is in the confessional, but even if face to face, the priest doesn’t put anything on your head. So you won’t need to remind the priest about that. They know what to do, according to the Rite.
Gentle and forthright talk on confession. Thank you🇦🇺🐨🦘
I love this.

Keep going back, Vonnie. No one wants you to feel discouraged and stop going more than the enemy.
Nowadays the priest doesn’t even lay his hands on one’s head…I miss that so much😞

I dont think his point is if either are valid. He knows both are. Rather which style is more preferable. @CatholicDefender-bp7my
@@CanditoTrainingHQ Yes you are right.. I know both are valid :).
On the last confession the priest kinda scolded me because of my sin. But that is exactly what I need, someone to remind me how to get rid of those sinful behaviour :)
Watching this made me wonder what the opening prayer is. Is there a set one like the prayer of absolution or is it the priest's choice?
Huh. I do exactly the opposite. I get rid of the big ones immediately. Whatever works for you. As long as you get it all out.

On the Resurrection Christ gave the Priesthood the power to forgive sins in His Name. Read the Scriptures and get the peace promised.
I don't feel I have to go and tell my sins I can sit in my home and ask for forgiveness because he already knows my sins I don't have to go and tell a person
What you feel and what Christ commanded are two very different things.
I never had a stole put over my head?
I’ve never seen the stole thing. I don’t think any priest I know does this. 😕

No you have another gospel,
Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum *We have such an high priest who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens*
A minister of *the sanctuary* and of the true tabernacle, *which the Lord pitched and not man*
For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
(His life; "no greater love"...)
For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests [Levitical] that offer gifts according to the law:
Who serve unto the example and *shadow* of *heavenly things* as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make *the tabernacle* for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to *the pattern* shewed to thee in the mount.
But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also *he* is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
*For if that first covenant had been faultless then should no place have been sought for the second*
For *finding fault with them* he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; *I will put my laws into their mind and write them in their hearts* and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
{Hebrews 8:1-10} (Jer 31:31-33)
@CatholicDefender-bp7my
Thy way, O God, is in thy sanctuary, who is so great a God as our God?
{Psalm77:13}
...as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith God, that thou make all things according to *the pattern* shewed to thee in the mount.
{Hebrews 8:5}
The *sanctuary* [tabernacle] was a pattern of types and shadows of the heavenly temple, and Jesus Christ is the substance of those types and shadows.
Jesus Christ himself established the sacrament of confession with His Apostles,
The new priests for God's new covenant.
Jonh 19:20
He breathed on His Apostles head and said, the sins you forgive shall be forgiven the ones you retain shall be retained.
We go to God, the way God established.
Not by ignoring it and say we go straight to Jesus.
