I've seen the Cyberster up close and personal at the first Everything Electric Live Show in London. It managed something few cars can - it made Yellow look good - really good. It's not as small as an MG classic sports car, but you barely notice because the proportions are so spot on. It's like when the Mini One was first released. Despite dwarfing an original mini it still managed to look small. The Mini Clubman by contrast looks like it ate a couple of Mini Ones for breakfast. The Cyberster is very pleasing on the eye and (despite Jack and Rob not liking them) the doors are very cool and also practical. They are easy to open in small spaces. With cars getting bigger and parking spaces staying the same size that's a definite bonus. I would love to cruise around in one during those five annual hours when we get sunshine in the UK. I'll wait for the convertible Aptera 😅. Given I'm in the US of A, I'll likely never see one in person, but great to see another example of what others in the world can get as the tech is mainstream. Also, about the doors, much better in a car park/parking lot than the suicide doors like on my BMW i3 where you're physically trapped between the cars... and yes, 10 year olds will be psyched.
I own an MGF (well technically it's my daughter's 😁); when it was launched it was criticised for not being that much fun to drive. When I drove it back to South Wales from Manchester, I was so surprised & impressed. Was it as thrilling as my Westfield? Of course not, but it handled very smartly and was effortless over the distance and nearly 40mpg. The MGF was never trying to be a Lotus and the Cyberster is exactly what MGs have always historically been - A practical, affordable sporting car that you can use every day. Against an MX5 it may seem pricy, but as a GT it's very good value compared to an F-type, Merc SL or a Z4.
So good to see an electric 2 seater convertible at last and it’s really pretty. Would love something like this when the kids leave home. Great presenting by the Bobby Batman and Jack Robin dynamic duo. Would have been worth mentioning the Electric Porsche due to be released in 2025.
Can't say I like the car at all, but I far prefer this format where Bob and Jack just get in the thing and talk about it while they drive around. Thanks to both of you, and the rest of the production team too, of course!
@@martinogold And engineer a version powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. And one might ask why we never see any of these BEVs being thrashed on a circuit with smoking tyres etc. Because the batteries wouldn't last five minutes, possibly overheat and self ignite?
@@t1n4444 Hydrogen is a boondoggle that won't work. There's not enough room for the huge tanks, and a fuel cell is supplemented by a battery anyway, as they can't provide enough current for high power outputs. Oh and a H2 fuel cell has a life of under 100k miles, before it stops working effectively enough to move the vehicle. A replacement fuel cell costs more than an EV battery, and an EV battery has a life of hundreds of thousands of miles. Oh and H2 burns too, explosively!! One of your best joint review drives. You could have pointed out that the scissors doors are to aid in getting in and out in tight spaces. Shopping?? There is plenty of room in the trunk.
It's a better name than the '#1' which Smart think is pronounced 'Hashtag 1'. Glad to see it exists though, as someone might be more inclined to make a more practical 2 seat roadster for mentally healthy people. Maybe Smart will do one?
The doors can be operated with the key fob. As you walk toward the car the door can be already open when you arrive at the car. Also from sitting in the driver seat you can open and close the passenger door for guests getting in and out of the car. Hence the doors can add to convenience. Never having to manually open and close the doors and have them elegantly function at your convenience is superb.
@@dorianleakey 😁 Can't deny its a bit "showy". But the amount of sophisticated complicated tech in all cars nowadays is staggering. The reliability in most cases ends up working just fine. For example fully electronic doors have been used in mini vans for decades. My last Mercedes had little motors all over the place doing all sorts of things. They just work. But I get your point, on the surface one would worry. But after only 2.5 months and 6000km with my Cyberster I don't give it a 2nd thought.
Can you operate the roof and windows remotely too? What I'm basically asking is can I drop the roof and drivers window so I can jump in like a 70s detective or Duke boy?
@@dorianleakey I agree they are a bit 'showy' and are bound to attract attention, but, the doors are quite long and in a crowed parking space they take up far less width. Check out the twerp Jeremy Carlson trying to exit his latter day Ford GT40. As I recall he had to crawl out on his hands and knees. I'd rather have showy 'scissor' doors than have to crawl out in a tight space. But then, I also rather have a GT40.
Nice ride with your son-in-law in his Honda S2000, Robert 😄 I'm imagining your spouses waiting for you at the restaurant while you're late & having fun on the road 😎
Just wondering if the seat adjustment is set as low as it can go. I'm sure they would have checked that. Absolutely love the car; it's how you'd imagine a modern MG should look 👍🏼👍🏼😊
I believe that thick bit above the front windscreen is to add rigidity, like all open top gt/ sports . As for the wobbly bits there in the seats seats😂😂😂 , great car like it and great review as always, keep it up ( spoken with a stiff upper lip ) 🤪🤪👍👍
I'm surprised that the door design cops some flack. Considering the market this is likely to appeal to I would say the doors are spot on. Sure, not practical, but it's a 2 seater sports car. Flamboyance is the order of the day!
Jack sits in the Cyberster like I sit in a FIAT X1/9 - i.e. not possible with the roof in place... I am 6'2" and am hoping the GTS hardtop 2+2 version has a double-bubble roof or some other way of upping headroom over this roadster version when it gets to production. The pre-production yellow LHD w Chinese menus roadster at the Harrogate '24 show was a bit too cramped for me - I've not tried a UK RHD production version, but hopefully work has been done to improve it from that car. Chatting with Tom Ford about his experiences of Cyberster and Cyber GTS gave me hope!
Lovely car, had a sit in one at your show in Harrogate. I'm hoping they make a hard top coupe/GT version because I need a little more boot space than this offers, but I'd love one if they did.
Brilliant review guys - really enjoy you two together - so natural, engaging and entertaining, without being laddish and puerile. You really need a proper motoring show together. In the meantime, keep up the good work
There has already been an MG-E - it was a prototype show car, hence the MG-F. Could have been the MG -G though and the forthcoming coupe version could be the MG-G GT. 😁
Probably the best start to a video I’ve ever seen, LOVED IT! Rest of the vid is like watching Jack Whitehall and his Dad, proper comedy! Nice one Bobby!!!..and Jax!! 😆😁
Middle age man car, sportyish but more compliant and luxury. And that's not a bad thing because, let's be honest they are the one's with both the money and now kid free.
They didn't test drive the dual motor GT variant. 0-100kph in 3.2 means anyone in the car is impossible to be an atheist. As in "Oh my God" when launching. 😂
Really hoping to try this at Everything Electric this weekend though I expect demand will be insane. I am 6'2 so I really want to know if I'll fit. That said I used to track an NB MX5 so I could make it work I'm sure.
I think it’s great. But I genuinely think they missed a trick MG, being MG which we have missed for years. What is the best and biggest selling 2 door fun sports car since the old MG……yep the MX5. Here they had the chance to give us an MX5 killer, for around 25k….and what do they give us a 55k car to compete against all the cars they simply can’t beat in terms of expensive 2 door sports cars, lotus, merc and bmw. What a shame they got it so wrong. They could have given us a Suzuki cappuccino killer…..an mg midget…..alas…..
If I wasn't 6ft 2" and had the money I'd be tempted except the doors are punching way above it's weight class, it's like putting an adaptive wing on a Passat.
I can't believe Mazda didn't make an EV Miata, they would have had the entire US market to themselves for years. It would not even have be long range or perfect when it's the only one in it's class.
@@jamesengland7461 I guess the logic is if you can't make good ones just stay out of the market. That's fair but we have no EV roadsters or convertibles in the US.
@@jamesengland7461 Actually, Mazda have been very smart. They haven't fallen into the trap of overproducing cars for a market that isn't there yet. They're playing the long game, which is very prudent, considering the state of the EV market right now. Too many pre-registrations, too much supply, not enough customers.
Hello, I really love your reviews 🙂 I would like to add a comment about the doors. I do agree that they are a little flashy, and I am not one who likes to be too flashy however . . . I drive a 2 cars with only 2 doors - a Mercedes SLK and a Mercedes E Class convertible. In both cases the doors are large and you have to be very careful when parking in car parks. I like these doors because you can fit into narrower parking spaces than I can in my two 🙂 I absolutely welcome MG producing a proper convertible car. I will only replace my two Mercs (one diesel, one petrol) when a decent electric convertible is available and I believe that this fits the bill.
Wow! Let's hope it's a hit. There has been a total revolution in cars over the past decade and 90% of the people are yet to discover it. They will and soon.
A perfect 2nd car to the primary EV Ute/SUV, especially if after market road handling tune kits become available. Notwithstanding the boot volume - would love to see this with a stainless rack and hamper setup…..more for nostalgia than anything else.
Classic english roadsters were never muscle cars either. They were meant to comfortably cruise the country side at leisure and potentially at (bursts of) speed for occasional fun. The Cyberster appears to fit quite snuggly into that tradition. Its fantastic looks might prove to become as iconic as the 1955 Mercedes 300SL with the gullwing doors. Since it might even become the only remaining roadster able to drive once the fossile fuel resources have run out and all other car manufacturers appear to be reluctant/unable to bring out their own. Although I still own and drive a roadster, I do find such cars highly impractical. E.g. the shape of the boot (access) is more of a restraint on the potential amount of luggage than the size. Two hardcase carry-on on rollers rarely fit in together, yet two full-size duffel bags may easily. So I understand the other brands' hesitance to also produce EV roadsters. But they're so much fun as country road cruisers, so the Cyberstar has already earned its fixed place on my short list of eternal interest.
This should have been an Alfa, with a crazy name and I would actually fall in love with it, only thins missing is the triangle upfront and the Alfa style wheels. They can keep the red color and all.
I have owned (still own) and restored/titivated a few MGs over the years including the MGRV8 and if I was fortunate enough to be able to, I would have one tomorrow!
I really like the car, the thing is I am 1.86m , and I find it quite comical my head to be taller than the front part, it doesn't make any sense. Things get quite more comical if I close the roof, it's a pity. Otherwise, there are few competitors out there , it's a niche product and segment.
❤😊 Lovely car and I love the doors ❤ sounds to me the traction control seems a little bit keen ... when are we had a i3 BMW? it was fantastic but there was this delay every time you put your foot down which made it feel a bit slow . ... then bought the i3s and suddenly it was instant speed only problem is because the tyre's 😮 fun ... Yeah I think a sports car should be instant speed fun maybe you could turn the traction control off ??? 😅😅
I love the style and hope to get a test drive over the weekend. Disappointed that there is no storage in the front but could probably live with that if/when I can afford one.
My daily is an E85 Z4. This is genuinly a really interesting prospect as a replacement - although I'll have to wait for it to be second hand for the price to be affordable!
My wife would love one of these to replace her Mercedes SLK. She's not after the most sporting 2 seater roadster, just one she can enjoy when the weather permits. The fact there are not exhaust emissions is a bonus.
Hi guys, as always you've made another belter. A couple of questions please : 1. ref the doors, is there any way of opening them in a conventional way rather than the Lambo/Maclaren drama? I ask because they look a bit high when fully open and could catch on the ceiling of a multi story car park? & 2. When are they going to be available?
I remember when I was a teenager drooling over Elvis' red MG sports car in the movie Blue Hawaii, while my girlfriend was drooling over Elvis. I lived in Ausi at the time and bought one but lost my license soon after, the Qld cops were attracted to it like flies.
I like it, but I cant think of one plausible situation where I ask a response of a vehicle as in stop, go, left, right where a delay is good. Ive always accepted stop, left, right may include delays and historically go has been included until I drove my Tesla P85 and thats one of the main reason I bought it. If I want to accelerate slowly I just press the go pedal accordingly now and again I want to go instantly. Those doors, I figure in tight parking spaces you get more chance of getting in and out plus hardly lightly to ding anyone else in the process so I guess on balance good idea.
From their description of how it drives... it's a Jaaag... rather than a Jaaack... Perfect for most of the people that I know that buy this style of car. Stunning looking, and well done MG, you have managed to build... well... an MG :D
You'd think they would have the ability to have a dummy dressed up as Robert as a passenger during the following-car clips, rather than an empty seat. This would give the editing more credibility. Also, no sunglasses please Jack.
There’s (more than) a reason that no one is rushing to make or buy electric roadsters. The body flex can damage the battery, causing a battery failure and an insurance write-off of the vehicle. The additional steel parts needed to keep the chassis rigid enough reduce the size of the battery and the range. The battery also adds weight that compromises the handling, speed and economy. Depreciation of EVs is high, whereas convertibles and roadsters are doing fine. An electric convertible would have heavy depreciated and limited lifespan. The high price would attract the high-value road tax and not many companies could take advantage of the tax incentives. I’m sure they will sell a few as dealers will have to order some in order to keep their franchise agreement, but I don’t expect to see many.
I drove a Ford Mustang convertible on holiday once. Quite like this in feel, I’d guess. Designed more for show than absolute go. The MG looks like it had a better boot too. Might be a bit wide for some roads but fun, otherwise.
I have been saying for quite a while that we need a convertible Miata EV or a convertible Bug EV, and that the first one to market would sell like hot cakes. These doors are such a problem that I'm not sure about this one.. but if there's one on the used market in a couple of years I really might consider it. ALSO -- the guys were saying convertibles are not good for shopping... that's so wrong. Convertibles allow for stacking crap in them up high, and work well for shopping, assuming you're alone. Remember your troubles bringing home some lumber in a sedan? In a convertible, you point it vaguely UP and you can bring home 10 foot 2x4s -- just don't take the highway.
Can't wait for coupe version MG Cyber GTS ❤❤❤ looks soo good 👍👍 Great video. The problem with MG Cyberster is that looks like a sports car ,but it's handling is far from it. It's more of the drop top tourer
I'm torn about this. I have been considering swapping 2nd generation MX-5 to a new one for a while, however due to how car taxes* are here in Denmark the MG is only 10-15% more than a top speced MX-5 so they are sort of competitors here. I think some test driving will be next. *Car taxes are crazy here, but the EV's are sort of the exception. Another example of the craziness, the cheapest Porsche here is a Taycan and not the 718 (actually they stopped selling the base ones here, so now it is not even close).

@@Validole Indeed they do. Which was one of the first things I noticed. That, and the fact that I occasionally wear those caps, and they would come off in a moment if the wind got under the visor.
One of the most beautiful cars in the modern era, wow!
Beautiful car I want one but will have to wait for second hand ones.
Or for the heavily (very) discounted new models that will be seen on "forecourts" for years to come.

Sounds like a laid back cruiser. Roof down, sun out, just enjoy it.
Big time. Proper wafter.

Lovely, gentleman. Though, I know it's never coming to America, I'd love one.Thank you ever so much.
I love this format of car review. Most entertaining. 😂
Yes, finally a 2-door cabrio. Fantastic. A bit above my budget, but that has always been the case with sporty cabrio's and coupe's
I'm so excited to drive it this weekend! It's different, looks amazing and isn't an SUV!
So... a Grand Tourer then. A Jaguar alternative, but reliable, and economical too!
Less economical and less reliable.
@kiezersoze5658 you think a Jag is reliable and economical? I've never experienced that.

Such a good looking car, that's kinda ruined by those rear arrow lights. lol
I enjoyed playing 'spot the Bobby' in the last few shots.
Love a Robert and Jack duo video. Hooray! 😊
Yess love it when these two are together in the same video. More videos like this pls!!
I had a '59 MGA and the boot space was also impressive for a sports car.
Beautiful car, looks like she's smiling! An option for standard hinged doors would be nice.
And maybe lose the silly name too.

And engineer a version powered by a hydrogen fuel cell.
And one might ask why we never see any of these BEVs being thrashed on a circuit with smoking tyres etc.
Because the batteries wouldn't last five minutes, possibly overheat and self ignite?
@@t1n4444 Are you subscribed to this channel just so you can post nonsense on it? Is this the only way you can get attention?
@@t1n4444
Hydrogen is a boondoggle that won't work.
Why do people keep banging on about Hydrogen, without having a clue about how it works, and it's huge number of shortfalls.
@@johnnodge4327 Don't forget that it's a bastard for leaking out of stuff too, and it embrittles certain metals (steel, for example) by "soaking in" to it. Hydrogen is amazing stuff, but it's an engineer's nightmare.
As much as I enjoy videos from each of these presenters - and I do - I really like these team-ups... Jack and Robert, Jack and Imogen, Robert and Imogen, etc. Good fun and of course informative, too.
Another episode with Chriton and Captain Scarlet ... I love it !
The doors can be operated with the key fob. As you walk toward the car the door can be already open when you arrive at the car. Also from sitting in the driver seat you can open and close the passenger door for guests getting in and out of the car. Hence the doors can add to convenience. Never having to manually open and close the doors and have them elegantly function at your convenience is superb.
it seems a bit showy to me, and another electronic thing to fail while a mechanical door just works.
@@shia_labeouf 😁 Nope. Just the doors. The roof only from inside the car.
@@dorianleakey
I agree they are a bit 'showy' and are bound to attract attention, but, the doors are quite long and in a crowed parking space they take up far less width. Check out the twerp Jeremy Carlson trying to exit his latter day Ford GT40. As I recall he had to crawl out on his hands and knees. I'd rather have showy 'scissor' doors than have to crawl out in a tight space. But then, I also rather have a GT40.
I think these two have great banter, i would love to seem them on a road trip style special!
This episode was pure gold. Thank you!
Summation, they should change the name for the next version, to MG EVGT, everything else would match that.
I believe that thick bit above the front windscreen is to add rigidity, like all open top gt/ sports . As for the wobbly bits there in the seats seats😂😂😂 , great car like it and great review as always, keep it up ( spoken with a stiff upper lip ) 🤪🤪👍👍
Maybe it may appear 'less' were it finished in white?
Really enjoyed watching this, informative, entertaining, amusing, memorable, give this kid a global audience!
I'm surprised that the door design cops some flack. Considering the market this is likely to appeal to I would say the doors are spot on. Sure, not practical, but it's a 2 seater sports car. Flamboyance is the order of the day!
I’m 70+ , still drive MX5 and like the look of the MG , certainly better than most affordable EVs . It also looks like it handles quite well too.
Pretty car, I like the doors (72 years old), did not like the headroom, but you did not show the luggage space in the frunk.
similar age, likewise, no probs with ddors..providing it doesnt have garage roof clearance issue.
no frunk
Lovely car, had a sit in one at your show in Harrogate. I'm hoping they make a hard top coupe/GT version because I need a little more boot space than this offers, but I'd love one if they did.
A tin top version would be on my list.
They had the GTS coupe ‘concept’ driving at Goodwood- real looker
Brilliant review guys - really enjoy you two together - so natural, engaging and entertaining, without being laddish and puerile. You really need a proper motoring show together. In the meantime, keep up the good work
They could have called it the MG-E GT
Perfect!
There has already been an MG-E - it was a prototype show car, hence the MG-F. Could have been the MG -G though and the forthcoming coupe version could be the MG-G GT. 😁
Yes, that would be perfect. Suggest it to MG. They own the name. Maybe they will lend you one for a couple of weeks as reward for the suggestion.

Finally an electric 2 seater sports car! and it's not crazy expensive?!... Not cheap either though. Have to wait for some second hand ones...
Love this format. Pleasant and interesting.
I’ve got a Toyota MR2, so I’m looking at what I could swap to in the future. I really like this, but I’m not sure I could live with those silly doors.

Mazda has been idiots when it comes to EVs.
An electric MX5 would be terrible.... the point of an MX5 is to be light and nimble. Stick a great heavy battery in it and it is no longer an MX5...
Hello, I really love your reviews 🙂
I would like to add a comment about the doors. I do agree that they are a little flashy, and I am not one who likes to be too flashy however . . . I drive a 2 cars with only 2 doors - a Mercedes SLK and a Mercedes E Class convertible. In both cases the doors are large and you have to be very careful when parking in car parks. I like these doors because you can fit into narrower parking spaces than I can in my two 🙂
I absolutely welcome MG producing a proper convertible car. I will only replace my two Mercs (one diesel, one petrol) when a decent electric convertible is available and I believe that this fits the bill.
Wow! Let's hope it's a hit. There has been a total revolution in cars over the past decade and 90% of the people are yet to discover it. They will and soon.
Some other reviewers have mentioned vibrations while cruising. Have you noticed that or perhaps was their example faulty?
Why? It's not an MG and it's not a sports car...
Thank you @fullychargedshow for this authentic review.
I really like the car, the thing is I am 1.86m , and I find it quite comical my head to be taller than the front part, it doesn't make any sense. Things get quite more comical if I close the roof, it's a pity. Otherwise, there are few competitors out there , it's a niche product and segment.
Reviews work better with two people having a conversation rather than one person talking to a camera with no feedback.
❤😊 Lovely car and I love the doors ❤ sounds to me the traction control seems a little bit keen ... when are we had a i3 BMW? it was fantastic but there was this delay every time you put your foot down which made it feel a bit slow
. ... then bought the i3s and suddenly it was instant speed only problem is because the tyre's 😮 fun ...
Someone should get MG to loan one of these to Geoff Buys Cars. Lol
Oh boy 😂😆
He'd still be dark on it lol
I love you both, but I love you even more when you're together. More of this please!
Fun video, but nothing about the interior?
My wife would love one of these to replace her Mercedes SLK. She's not after the most sporting 2 seater roadster, just one she can enjoy when the weather permits. The fact there are not exhaust emissions is a bonus.
Hi guys, as always you've made another belter. A couple of questions please : 1. ref the doors, is there any way of opening them in a conventional way rather than the Lambo/Maclaren drama? I ask because they look a bit high when fully open and could catch on the ceiling of a multi story car park?
& 2. When are they going to be available?
Saw a lady driving one on the way to Worcester, looked great in the flash
who, the lady or the car?
MG...please...please please please...find a way to bring this thing to the US.
I'm 5'9.5" Jack. Spare me 3" and we will both be happy.
Robert looks decidedly nervous with Jack driving.
100% agree. Lose the silly doors. And for me, stretch it a bit add a roof and make it a 2+2 tintop.
So, an MG4.
What a pair of old boots. I LOVE the doors!
I drove a Ford Mustang convertible on holiday once. Quite like this in feel, I’d guess. Designed more for show than absolute go. The MG looks like it had a better boot too. Might be a bit wide for some roads but fun, otherwise.
Maserati makes the GranCabrio in EV form. 1st drives have already happened. But it is a 4 seater.
Can't wait for coupe version MG Cyber GTS ❤❤❤ looks soo good 👍👍
Great video.
I tried to pre-book a test drive in one at the Farnborough show for tomorrow (Friday) but it wouldn't accept me as I'm over 70!
Bummer
