I first heard about setting the definition of done when I had an interview for a Product Manager position. I wanted to make a career pivot to Product Management, but the interviewer stumped me with the question, "What is the definition of done?" Sufficed to say I didn't get the job, because I didn't know that PM should define when the product should be "done." I took this lesson and applied it to my then job; whenever my boss assigned a task to me I'd set the definition of "done," but I never set my definition of "done" for my personal goals. I've been struggling with perfectionism for the most part of my life, and it makes so much sense to begin setting the definition of "done" for my personal goals to resolve my struggle. Thank you for shedding a light on this!
I love your channel, although for me journalling has never been a problem - just give me a pen and a piece of paper, and I don't even need a prompt to cover it in writing. Still, your tips on how to make journalling structured and productive, and how to use it for goal setting have been hugely enlightening. Kind of helped me to grow as a responsible adult, so thank you for those, and I wish you the very best of luck with your endeavors!
I think "research" is similar to planning too. Obviously it's needed but at a certain point I'm really just using research as a way to procrastinate from taking action and doing things. It makes me feel productive but I'm really just avoiding doing the actual work.
i have missed you (in video form)! this couldn't have come at a better time, really. the planning to action step is always the most difficult hurdle for me, but it is as you say, a mid plan with action is better than a perfect plan with no action. better to get somewhere than staying in one place! i have also realized that perfection is literally my mortal enemy i will NOT be associated with that anymore 😤 also is that an fuji instax camera next to the snowman in the background? such a lovely color on it!
Everyone in the comments seems mesmerized and impressed by this great video (just like me, who really came to understand why my perfect plans never work...). And here I am, like, "OMG she can draw a spiral without even looking at what she's doing!! will I ever be able to do that one day"
Not to validate you or anything but this was well thought out. Or would it be more helpful if I said it was bad so you can evaluate whether you base your motivation on validation from the commenters.

@2:03 "A mediocre plan with action beats a perfect plan that stays on paper." Perfectly said.

I'm going to have to rewatch this after I recover from a spotlight being shined on my ineffective coping strategies. 😅
Perfect timing is perfect.

Hey can you just make a video of slow clapping so we can use it when we feel we need external validation? Thanks.
