Royals fan here. And I think that Camden Yards looks beautiful. But…I really miss the camera view when facing the pitcher and seeing the pretty trees and landscaping at Memorial Stadium. I saw that a lot on tv when I was a kid and watching Oriole WS in 69-71. Also: Good luck to your team this year, I really like them and was frustrated for you when your execs traded Mancini and Lopez. I liked your team a long time ago and like the scrap n them now.

Love Peabody Heights and its wonderful history as a former baseball stadium! The owner will sometimes give people a baseball tour of the brewery and hopefully they will pick that up again once it is safe to do so.

John: When I lived in MD, I enjoyed Peabody Heights beer, and I visited the brewery a couple of times, but I didn't know all of the history behind Baltimore baseball & that location. So, thanks for another informative video! :-)

George Herman Ruth (Babe Ruth) first Pro Baseball team was the minor league Baltimore Orioles 1914. He pitched for team for 4 months and won 13 games before the Red Sox bought his contract.

I moved to Baltimore in 2008. I worked for the great grandson of Bed Hanlan, the manager of the Orioles from the 1800's to when they left in1903 or 4.
I have been told by a lot of the locals that the original ballpark was located in Charles Village.
By the way, I am and have always been a big baseball fan.

Ned Hanlon only managed the Orioles until 1898. John McGraw managed the NL Orioles from 1899 until they were disbanded and also the AL Baltimore Orioles until he and the AL President Ban Johnson had a falling out. Hanlon was a member of the Park Board in Baltimore and was responsible for getting Municipal Stadium built, which helped lure the Browns to Baltimore. This is all in a book I co-authored called FOXY NED HANLON The Baseball Life of a Hall of Fame Manager.

From video you see there was a lot of Pro Baseball History in Baltimore City before 1954. There were many good teams & Champions, ballplayers, history, league leading attendance many years from past that helped big time to bring the St Louis Browns to town. Important & true note, the minor league Baltimore Orioles had the longest tenure at Old Oriole Park ( 401 East 30th street) from 1916 through 1944.

Sheriff Fowble coached Travel baseball in the 50 s for a few Decades. I believe he coached Al Kaline(Southern HS) at Herring Run Park.

Open air movies were show at both Oriole Park on Greenmount Ave and at Terrapin Park in the nineteen teens.

My mother taught at Barclay elementary school. Legend has it that the school offices are where the dugout was located.

You can find the ballpark's approximate footprint on Baltimore Heritage's website, if you go to Virtual > Five Minute Histories > and then look at the embedded map.
