  • Our city is haunted…by historic advertisements?! We’ll explain what we mean in today’s Five Minute Histories video in which we explore Ghost Signs in Baltimore. We are thrilled to have a ghost sign aficionado, Lashelle Bynum, as our special guest. Thanks for watching and we’ll see you later this week.
This is our series called "Five Minute Histories." We record short videos about different historic places all over Baltimore and post them on our Facebook page, TH-cam channel, and website. I feel like so many things from our past that are slipping away, attempts should be made to coat and preserve any of theses fading works of art.

My favorite is the Prohibition sign in Fells Point. Quite appropriate.

St. Louis is FULL of these ghost signs too! I've been calling them "label scars" and started documenting them. Cool subject!

Very interesting! I don't live in Baltimore anymore but grew up there. I guess I took those signs completely for granted. Now I want to go back and find some of them. I am glad Lashelle is photographing as many as she can find ... or as many as find her.

Yep, there was one at the alley on Streeper St near Jefferson that is gone. There was also a building size painted sign in black and white on Mount Royal near the Fallsway for the Maryland Anti-Vivisection Society. Saw it every weekday on my way to school at the Maryland Institute. Thank you for your work!

Wish they would seal these signs to prevent further decay or something, declair them a historical thing.
