I just watched this case, Chen v. Carson. Spot on ruling. My brother had a similar situation with his landlord. The small claims judge ruled against him even though, as in this case, the landlord relied on a plumbing service who couldn't show up in a reasonable amount of time. The judge even asked the plaintiff whether their chosen plumbing service was the only one in Los Angeles County.

It's possible that portions of the case were edited due to time constraints, but Judge Milian and Judge Karen would have asked to see some proof that the plaintiff was directly responsible for the lost job.
Perrhaps the defendant didn't get that job/account for reasons other than the plaintiff's behavior.
