The artwork in the opening credits is quite incredible. It looks like they used old pictures of Hayley Mills as reference. It's hard to believe this morphed into Saved By The Bell (and without Hayley!)
When NBC did the pilot for Good Morning Miss Bliss and it first aired, it didn't do so well. Thus, in order for it to be successful, they had to make some changes. Jaleel White who was the popular, rich student, Bobby Wilson, was retooled as Lisa Turtle after Lark Voorhies took over. Brian Austin Green who played Bobby's wealthy and serious best friend, Adam, was retooled as class clown Zack Morris after Mark Paul Gosslear took over. Another friend, Michael(played by Jonathon Brandis), was retooled as Samuel "Screech" Powers after Dustin Diamond took over. Originally, Richard Belding(Dennis Hoskins) had two younger brothers and made sporadic visits in his hometown of Indianapolis. One was named Gerald(Oliver Clark) and he was the principal of John F. Kennedy middle school. He was originally supposed to lock horns with Miss Bliss over the way he runs the school. The other was their lazy youngest brother, Rodney "Rod", who never took his life seriously. This had caused a rift between Richard, Gerald and him. Gerald was replaced by Richard as principal of JFK middle school once the producers moved the location from being in Indianapolis, Indiana to the fictional Los Angeles suburbs of Bayside in California. This essentially made the show into Saved by the Bell, the Junior Years.
Miss Bliss appears in the whole first season of Saved by the Bell so clearly it worked just fine. NBC could have carried her over to season 2 as a recurring teacher, or assistant principal .
@@electrictroy2010 The show wasn't called Saved By The Bell in that "first season" with Hayley Mills when it was originally broadcast. It was still known as "Good Morning, Miss Bliss." Thank GOD they didnt keep that old fart as Mr. Belding. No one and I mean no one could have played Mr Belding other than Denis Haskins. He was so perfect for that role and I would have killed to have a pricipal like him when I was in school.
I always wished my high school principal would have been someone like Dennis Haskins (Mr. Belding). My principal was a jerk who played favs and his daughter went to our school...yuck.
I agree the artwork during the opening credits is amazing. For those of you who don't know Michael Thompson is played by the late Jon Brandis. Honestly you could make the argument that with Brandis, Greene and White the original cast featured here consisted of far more talented young actors than any of the eventual cast of SBTB.
This is what my version would've been if Good Morning, Miss Bliss been successful. 1. Pilot: Three best friends, Adam, Bobby and Michael start the 6th grade. Miss Bliss endures a series of headaches with Gerald Belding. 2. Summers are Short: Wendy and Nikki are trying to welcome foreign exchange students, but the boys plans almost derails their efforts. 3. The Concert: Adam's latest scheme to make money and attend a concert held by Aerosmith, put him and his friends in danger. 4. My Brother Isn't Like Me: Gerald's younger brother, Richard, returns to Indianapolis to confront him for his incompetence.(Dennis Haskins has a recurring role as Richard Belding) 5. Jail Time Blues: Adam's older and resident class clown schemer cousin, Zack(Mark Paul Gosslear), visits from Los Angeles. He gets Adam, Bobby, Michael and a group of pretty girls arrested after being caught joyriding in his uncle, Ron's car.(loosely based on Family Matters Jailhouse Blues episode) 6. Leaping to Conclusions: Adam and Bobby think Michael had ditched them and went missing from school. They learn a hard lesson from Miss Bliss when they learn why. Michael has a younger sister and a grandmother to care for. Meanwhile, Nikki and Wendy walk out on strike for refusing to dissect a frog. 7. Love Letters: The boys set up shop to do side money on writing love letters. However, the jokes on them when Miss Bliss catches on and teach them a hard lesson in catfishing others. Richard and Gerald's fight reaches a critical point when they learn that JFK Middle School is going to be shutdown because of the latter's incompetence and terrible behavior. 8. The Children Who Cried Rat: Miss Bliss warns the students not to mess with the mouse in it's cage. A curious Steven Hillhurst accidentally let the mouse loose and the students must catch it before the school district show up on the day the superintendent confronts Gerald. 9. Wall Street: Adam risks his class's money for some risky stocks, which pays out well. Meanwhile, Gerald is put on Administrative leave and vice principal, Mylo Williams, takes over the duties. (TK Carter has a recurring role as Mylo) 10. Brain VS Brawn: An obnoxious student, Deke, challenges Michael in a rope climbing contest. He uses the most powerful muscle, his brain, to build a jet pack and beat his rival. 11. Fashion Forward: Bobby gains a rivalry with his cousin, Lisa, during his visit to LA. Both cousins later learn to compromise after learning a hard lesson. 12.. Words Hurt: Bobby makes fun of a kind and nerdy girl, Myra(Kellie Shanynge Williams), for her appearance. Miss Bliss teaches him a hard lesson in what it feels like to be made fun of for his clothes and appearance. Meanwhile, Zack returns to lure Adam into his latest scam.
Yes, but you definitely can't tell from the pilot. This is the first time I personally have seen this version, but this series is often shown packaged with Saved by the Bell reruns, with an intro by Mark-Paul Gosselaar (as Zack) explaining something along the lines of "another episode from the junior high days"; as well as a completely different set of opening credits that suggests that the show was actually Saved by the Bell all along.
4:48 Rest in peace Jonathan Brandis. Jonathan Brandis and Jakeel White were also on a tv show called "111 Gramercy Park". It was Jonathan's last role before he died.
The opening doesnt sounds like a sitcom opening at all compared to the other 80s sitcoms like Alf. Did the producer for the opening forgot that this is a sitcom and not a tragic romance show?
Some TV pilots never air at all. Like the original All in the Family pilot, or Star Trek’s original pilot. (Sat in the vault for 25 years until premiered.)
The guy who played Mr. Belding also played DJ's principal on "Full House". It was the episode where she had Kimmie's boyfriend to place his (the principal's) car on top of the roof. "DJ got the idea from Jesse to do such a prank"
This is one of TWO pilots. Hayley was in BOTH pilots, but the second version with Mark-Paul Gosselaar(Zack Morris),Dustin Diamond(Samuel "Screech" Powers),and Lark Voorhies(Lisa Turtle) was the one we recognized the most. Too bad Hayley wasn't called back to do "Saved By The Bell"
I think I actually like this series the best out of all them. The plots are more interesting than Saved by the Bell. To bad there are only 13 episodes.
Most of them were the replacement episodes. The original unaired pilot had three best friends, Adam(Brian Austin Green), Bobby(Jaleel White) and Michael(Jonathan Brandis), as they try to maneuver their way through middle school in JFK in Indianapolis.
i feel like i'm the only one that remembers...when NBC aired the first episode of Good Morning Miss Bliss...with Zack, Screech, Lisa, Nikki and Mikey... there was this setup segment. i remember they were in the school hallway, standing by some lockers, it was dark and a spotlight came on and a big projector screen was on, and there was a deep voice that the kids listened and responded to... it was only shown once and never seen again. it was like one of those "mission" scenes...
NBC only aired this version of Miss Bliss (without Zack, Screech, etc). The other 13 episodes of Miss Bliss were exclusive to the Disney channel Then it got canceled. Then it was renewed as Saved by the Bell (no teacher named Bliss)
This was a prime time pilot, not originally set for Saturday morning teen viewing. Its very very common for many changes to happen between a pilot and its second episode. The show was originally supposed to be centered around Hayley Mills, not the students. This honestly may as well be a completely different show than Saved by the Bell and its predecessor Good Morning Miss Bliss.
Miss Bliss appears in the whole first season of Saved by the Bell (reruns) so it worked just fine. NBC could have carried her over to season 2 as a recurring teacher, or assistant principal .
That's where they went wrong they should of had like a Saturday afternoon time slot and kept the focus on the teachers.. but Saturday morning time slots were for the younger viewers
Pilots sell shows, but how did this sell Good Morning Miss Bliss? I usually like anything 80s nostalgic, but this was weird and bad, not awful mind you, it just came off as lacking.
In all likelihood every other pilot was monumentally worse. Prospective shows and movies are HORRIBLE. It takes a huge amount of work before they're ever aired.
After NBC aired this pilot the Disney Channel not NBC picked up Miss Bliss and it ran a full season before being tweeked and turning into Saved By The Bell in the Fall of 1989 airing on NBC.
@@martymcfly5434 The reason Disney picked it up was because NBC turn it down then after one season Disney decided not to renew it because of poor ratings then when NBC picked it up they did not think much of it so they put it in the mornings and the rest is history as we know it

Meadow stamberg I’m not lying because I checked the information myself on both of their biography pages quite a few times. By saying this, I meant the sci-fi TV series and yes, they did want to prom together as strictly friends, nothing more.
I never got why students reacted like that to school work. I'm mean we are in school to do work. I would always be the quiet student who just got shit done. when I wanted too.
@COMPFUNK2 Speaking of that, it's also hard to tell this is based on Saved by the Bell because none of the other cast members from this pilot are in the rest of the episodes (not to mention Mr. Belding's first name here is Gerald, whereas in later episodes his first name is Richard).
That's why pilots are made, but very rarely air. They are basically so networks can get a feel for what a series is going for. Network executives may ask for characters to be recast, dropped completely, retooled, or expanded depending on how well they are received. There are many examples of this. Star Trek, Gilligan's Island, Six Million Dollar Man, Full House, Eight is Enough all had changes made in the pilot stage before going to series.
The only thing that still I don't get is in Junior High with Ms.Bliss M.Belding Zack Lisa & Screech went JFK Jr high in Indianapolis,In and in Sr high they were at Bayside in L.A California it's like they gang followed each other all the way across the U.S wtf?
My thoughts of Zack if I was him going to a new school seeing the old crew would've been "Dang I moved far far away to get away from you crazy mothaf##kas how did you find me?"
+Mark Adcock screech on the other hand if it been reality Lisa would've filed a restraining order on him years ago for sexual harassment and stalking cause everyone knows that he only followed the gang to get with her anyway.

@@connierahim9259
No. She's gotten the treatment she has long needed. Still struggling, but she's come a long way. There's an interview she does with Dr. Oz that can be found on here. I recommend giving it a watch.
Not a spin-off but a reboot.
They revamped the storyline because they knew this series wasn't going to last and that's why they changed the location of the city and changed the focus to the students.
Miss Bliss appears in the whole first season of Saved by the Bell (reruns) so it worked just fine. NBC could have carried her over to season 2 as a recurring teacher, or assistant principal
.
Hayley Mills played such a great character in this, but in my opinion, she was excellent as a school teacher.
The episode ranked 30th out of 63 shows that week, bringing in an 11.1/25 rating/share, and easily winning its timeslot.
What up with the creepy intro? Is that supposed to be a sketch montage of Miss Bliss' life?
Yes
Plus this was nearly 2 years before Saved By The Bell. This early pilot aired in 1987!!
Actually it aired in late 87 , July 11th
I think it was trying to be like the cheers intro
It's scetches of her when she was actually a child. Haley Mills who plays Miss Bliss was a very famous child actress.
One picture looks like Haley Mills from The Trouble With Angels movie intro.
Miss Bliss appears in the whole first season of Saved by the Bell so clearly it worked just fine. NBC could have carried her over to season 2 as a recurring teacher, or assistant principal
.
@@electrictroy2010 The show wasn't called Saved By The Bell in that "first season" with Hayley Mills when it was originally broadcast. It was still known as "Good Morning, Miss Bliss." It was later changed for syndicated reruns: the opening credits, theme song and title. Here is the series opening: th-cam.com/video/iAzp6gdUqJw/w-d-xo.html
And now sbtb is being rebooted
Thank GOD they didnt keep that old fart as Mr. Belding. No one and I mean no one could have played Mr Belding other than Denis Haskins. He was so perfect for that role and I would have killed to have a pricipal like him when I was in school.
Walker Matrix didn't they get rid of mr. Belding when they all graduated? but he was still in the show somehow
I always wished my high school principal would have been someone like Dennis Haskins (Mr. Belding). My principal was a jerk who played favs and his daughter went to our school...yuck.
Speaking of school principles, your last name is Strickland. Just like Mr Strickland from Back to the Future. Now he would of been a jerk.
What was his name?
Hey hey hey hey, what is going on here!!!
4. My Brother Isn't Like Me: Gerald's younger brother, Richard, returns to Indianapolis to confront him for his incompetence.(Dennis Haskins has a recurring role as Richard Belding)
5. Jail Time Blues: Adam's older and resident class clown schemer cousin, Zack(Mark Paul Gosslear), visits from Los Angeles. He gets Adam, Bobby, Michael and a group of pretty girls arrested after being caught joyriding in his uncle, Ron's car.(loosely based on Family Matters Jailhouse Blues episode)
(TK Carter has a recurring role as Mylo)
Jonathan!!!
waaaaa! i know!
Had they kept this original format, "Saved By The Bell" would have never been created
This show was cancelled
Urkel looks like Webster in this
urkle? brian austin green? what the hell was going on here? lol
Lol I guess this is where they got there start!
Could you imagine Jaleel White at Bayside with Zack and them? More like the cooler version than the nerdy version
Should have gave him screeches part
Rip Samuel "Screech"😢
It’s So Sad!💔....
Someone needs to get on a Good Morning Miss Bliss, including the original pilot, blu-ray release...I'd even settle for a DVD! #cmonalready
it exists somewhere
Con Kaiserdor FACTS.
moonji Munji IT'S RARE.
When they did them in 8th grade they show them coming back from summer break and zack talks to a 9th grader I always thought that was thr pilot
4:48 Rest in peace Jonathan Brandis.
Jonathan Brandis and Jakeel White were also on a tv show called "111 Gramercy Park". It was Jonathan's last role before he died.
Haaa. Love that 30ish years later miss bliss' joke about the Indianapolis Colts being the pits, is still deadly accurate.
They did get better by the mid-90s. A play away from the Super Bowl. And QB Jim Harbaugh comes to visit Bayside.
The opening doesnt sounds like a sitcom opening at all compared to the other 80s sitcoms like Alf.
Did the producer for the opening forgot that this is a sitcom and not a tragic romance show?
Well the intro fit with the original actress who starred in both the pilot and the short-lived tv series as its central character, Hayley Mills.
Interestingly, the director for this also worked on Alf.
The theme sounds not unlike Family Ties.
@@friedchickenicedtea Not as catchy.
this pilot is 32 years old and only aired once (MINDBLOWN💥!)
Some TV pilots never air at all. Like the original All in the Family pilot, or Star Trek’s original pilot. (Sat in the vault for 25 years until premiered.)
Thanks for the upload
Remember when brain and Jonathan did a guest spot on sbtb the college years
Oh snap Jaleel White is in this😀
The guy who played Mr. Belding also played DJ's principal on "Full House". It was the episode where she had Kimmie's boyfriend to place his (the principal's) car on top of the roof. "DJ got the idea from Jesse to do such a prank"
I'm gonna have to look up that episode
Funny, this Mr. Belding is the same guy that played Mr. Robillard(o), the principal in Full House when they put his car on the roof lofl.
Does anyone else think this classroom resembles the classroom in Boy Meets World?
My classroom too.
I think it is.
The school does
Hayley as Miss Carrie Bliss...now THAT'S the Hayley Mills I know and love. At 41,she was great.
Miss Bliss appears in the whole first season of Saved by the Bell (reruns)
.
Poor Jonathan Brandis. RIP
Thanks for this.
How many episodes (GMMB) were there ???? And I'm NOT talking about the 13 episodes with the SBTB intro !!!!! Sorry i want to know.
Aww. Look at Jaleel White.
yay somebody that knows his name.
July 11, 1988 (not 1987).... Post Facts of Life series finale by a week or few!!!
Unaired? No it aired on NBC in 1987 according to Wikipedia. You can even see the NBC logo at the beginning
I meant this early pilot of Good Morning Miss Bliss, not the retooled SBTB the Junior Years.
i feel like i'm the only one that remembers...when NBC aired the first episode of Good Morning Miss Bliss...with Zack, Screech, Lisa, Nikki and Mikey... there was this setup segment. i remember they were in the school hallway, standing by some lockers, it was dark and a spotlight came on and a big projector screen was on, and there was a deep voice that the kids listened and responded to... it was only shown once and never seen again. it was like one of those "mission" scenes...
I honestly have no idea what you're talking about... But I'm curious now. Gonna have to do some Googling.
NBC only aired this version of Miss Bliss (without Zack, Screech, etc). The other 13 episodes of Miss Bliss were exclusive to the Disney channel
Then it got canceled.
Misty James I actually would’ve preferred this to have stayed centred around Miss Bliss and for Saved By The Bell to be completely separate.
@@dsd310580 So you would want both Miss Bliss and Saved By the Bell
@@m56214 Yeah.
Miss Bliss appears in the whole first season of Saved by the Bell (reruns) so it worked just fine. NBC could have carried her over to season 2 as a recurring teacher, or assistant principal
.
That's where they went wrong they should of had like a Saturday afternoon time slot and kept the focus on the teachers.. but Saturday morning time slots were for the younger viewers
It's hard to believe that Saved By the Bell grew out of this.
@@martymcfly5434 The reason Disney picked it up was because NBC turn it down then after one season Disney decided not to renew it because of poor ratings then when NBC picked it up they did not think much of it so they put it in the mornings and the rest is history as we know it
This was boring
@@JAG214 I think Disney Channel were starting a line up
Beautiful intro, 80s & 90s entertainment is the best
Georgie: I love teachers with great legs!
Miss Bliss: I like that boy!
Cougar confirmed.
Should have been called "Let's come together, yeah yeah yeah."
"I just got married and I'm gonna be a widow" ~ In the next episode Miss Bliss has been a widow for 3 years.
Jaleel White and Brian Austin Green still played Nerds a couple years later!
Too bad the character Michael Thompson whose real name is Jonathan Brandis
committed suicide. He had a bright future ahead of him.
Jackieharris Jackieharrisjackie I looked him up..it says that he also went to prom with Brittany Murphy who also died
@@BusinessHooks Brittany Murphy also appeared in an episode of seaQuest called Second Chance. By these small coincidences, a lot of us would've believed she dated Jonathan but he was already with Tatyana Ali (Ashley Banks), at that point.
kandiiyuutaamu no they dated and went to prom together
Meadow stamberg I’m not lying because I checked the information myself on both of their biography pages quite a few times. By saying this, I meant the sci-fi TV series and yes, they did want to prom together as strictly friends, nothing more.
I never got why students reacted like that to school work. I'm mean we are in school to do work. I would always be the quiet student who just got shit done. when I wanted too.
OMG! That is Brian Austin Green at 2:11
Yes, that's him also spot a young Jaleel White as well!!
And Jonathan Brandis too!
Wow...interesting to see the young Jonathon Brandis. I had a sort of crush on him as a kid. So sad what happened to him.
I remember my mom telling me that and I never believed her... just think saved by the bell was a spin off show and lasted until 2000
Miss Bliss was an awesome teacher....
@COMPFUNK2 Speaking of that, it's also hard to tell this is based on Saved by the Bell because none of the other cast members from this pilot are in the rest of the episodes (not to mention Mr. Belding's first name here is Gerald, whereas in later episodes his first name is Richard).
Saved by the Bell kept the floozy teacher and those file cabinets and that's it!
I don't know if it's just me but I really like the original theme.
YES i loved it !!
Yes! I love it😭
When zack, lisa, and screech were on the next episode miss bliss was a widower
That's why pilots are made, but very rarely air. They are basically so networks can get a feel for what a series is going for. Network executives may ask for characters to be recast, dropped completely, retooled, or expanded depending on how well they are received. There are many examples of this. Star Trek, Gilligan's Island, Six Million Dollar Man, Full House, Eight is Enough all had changes made in the pilot stage before going to series.
I think she has a dark side we just are not aware of.
I'll never understand why the composers of these 80s theme songs wanted to make sure the audience felt like killing themselves before the show started
That was Steve Urkle! First guy to stand up and introduce himself!🤣🤣🤣
Wait, was that Urkel?
Yes!! I think so!
Yes lol
Zayne Freeman yes and I'm kind of glad that he did not continue the show... We probably would have never had Steve Urkel
M??? A????? That was good morning ms bliss season 1 NBC changed that to saved by the bell in season 2.
@@MA-vd3ln Aw damn lol
@@PennsylvaniaPumpkinPie yeah and Zack's Dad is named Peter, not Derek. And he's played by a different actors
Jaleel White!! Holy cow! I wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t see it.
I am so glad to have found this!! Thanks
Teachers actually made me write one sentence over and over cause I was constantly fucking there class up. I didn't like that stuff but it served me well. At the end.
WOW! I never knew Jaleel White, Jonathan Brandis and Brian Austin Green was on this show! And I've heard of this show but never actually saw it. I only know Saved By The Bell.
That "bad boy" kind of looks like The Sprouse Twins from Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
I was thinking the same
I always thought it was called saved by the bell after the pilot then it was called good morning miss bliss
Steve urkle was in the original pilot?
