  • This video is from our “Football kit design: From Concept reality” course. Find it at www.sparkdesignacademy.com.
    Spark Design Academy Co-Founder and course tutor Craig Buglass talks about his experience designing an England kit for Umbro in 2012, working with one of his design heroes Peter Saville.
    He discusses trying to change the stigma associated with the St George's flag, and designing a kit with the fans' needs in mind, that still offers the high performance that athletes require.

    I loved the navy England shirt. It was a great colour for an ordinary fan to wear, and the cotton content in the fabric made it comfortable and better to look at than some ‘shiny’ kits.
    I originally bought it in size large, but due to some weight loss gave it as a birthday present to my brother 10 years later.
    I then bought a replacement shirt in size medium from a vintage shirt website!

    This is one of my favourite England kits, and watching this video just made me appreciate it even more.

    Congratulations,
    Umbro made iconic shirts between 2010 and 2012 ...
    I've got the away and home Euro 2012' kit ... great job !

    "Some of the best teams in the planet" sneaks in Sunderland.
    I'm sure the kit was class though

    Still have the navy away shirt and the st George shouldered home. Can’t fit in them these days but I kept them as they are my two favourite shirts. Interesting to hear the many processes behind their conception.

    These England kits were some of the best there’s ever been. I’ve still got a long sleeved red away shirt from this era. Shame it’s about 3 sizes too small these days. 😂

    Love the fabric. Nice to see that it's being used again (like the 20/21 West Ham home). Very sad to see how Nike has messed up the England shirts (also many other teams) of recent years.

    Is that the goalkeepers top your displaying as it looks like a jacket? I saw the image in blue but not green. Were these ever released? just cant find it anywhere

    • @TheKitBreakdown
      @TheKitBreakdown  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Theres a walkout jacket & a goalkeeper strip that matches the jacket! You might be able to find it online occasionally but they are hard to come by :)

    "Some of the best teams on the planet" and Sunderland pops up? 😂👌
    Also why do England not wear England's colours instead of always having to wear Scotland colours all the time 🤷

    • @TheKitBreakdown
      @TheKitBreakdown  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, bit of an inside joke that one 😂 On the England kit, Rob designed the only kit to be in true "England colours" back in 2012. Since then it's been mostly the traditional red, white and blue.

      Nike bought Umbro out to get the England licence and then sold Umbro to another company
