  • Watching John Wick 3 on a LG C9 OLED 65” TV, all through a Denon HDR 4K Home Theater Receiver.
    Here is a link to the movie website:
    www.johnwick.m...
    Full disclosure, I ended up selling these amazing speakers a couple days after posting this video. It was sad to see them go but they went to a great home and they are loving them.
    Where I bought them - OfferUp
    How much I paid for them - $2,000
    How much I sold them for - $2,400 (threw in extra gear)
    What was included with the purchase:
    Klipsch Klipsch KL-650-THX x 3 - $1,200 ea.
    Klipsch KS-525-THX x 2 - $625 ea.
    Klipsch KA-1000-THX Subwoofer Amplifier - $1,400
    Klipsch KW-120-THX 12” Subwoofers - $1,250 ea.
    Total MSRP - $8,750
    Average Guy Hi-FI Scores, out of 10 possible points for each category for a total of 40 points:
    Quality - 9
    Heavier than you are thinking, larger than they look and about as solid construction as you’ll find, high quality binding posts and made in the USA.
    Sound - 8.5
    If you are familiar with the Klipsch horn sound these might not sound like you’d expect them to. They are what I’d call very neutral with incredible ability to keep up with the most demanding movie scenes. Only reason I am not putting 9 is that they definitely benefit from a subwoofer or two but that’s exactly how they were designed.
    Aesthetics - 8.5
    I love the looks of these speakers, I think they have a great industrial/modern flair to them. The only knock, which really shouldn’t be a knock at all, is the flatish black finish. This finish was chosen on purpose, to keep reflections down in theater rooms, where this set was designed to go.
    MSRP Value - 7.5
    At MSRP of $8,750, there are cheaper options out there that will likely get you better results. Not trying to take away from these though, their performance is phenomenal.
    Price Paid Value - 9
    Spending $2,000 on the second hand market is still a tough pill to swallow but I can assure you, spending $2,000 at your local store won’t get you even close to this performance.
    Average a guy Hi-Fi Rating - 42/50 = 85%
    Not for everyone but for those who are looking for movie theater quality sound in reasonably sized packages, this wonderful set might be exactly what you have been waiting for.
    Highly recommended!

      They really are awesome speakers. They were my dream system for a long time also.
      I just slowly bought speakers over time and upgraded. If you have the patience, you can end up with these Ultra2’s with little out of pocket, if you can buy your gear used, use it for a while and possibly sell it at a profit to move up the ladder. That’s pretty much how I did it:)

    Love what you're doing. I really liked the triad golds. Right now there's a 7.2 m&k s150 set for $5000. Have you ever heard these? I'd like to get your opinion on how they compare to the triad golds.

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am a big fan of M&K speakers. I missed out of a set of 3 S150’s and the matching THX Subwoofer that was listed for $950.
      Are these the new M&K’s or are you looking on the used market? $5,000 sounds steep if they are 2nd hand, at least that would be on the higher side of the Seattle market. It also depends if all the speakers are S150’s and the subwoofers are the big boy M&K’s. Still might be a little on the high side in my market but I’ve found different area used audio prices can vary.
      Generally speaking, the Triad speakers and the M&K’s that I have owned, have similar quality and even the sound characteristics are similar. You would likely be very happy with with your purchase, especially if you can get the M&K package for less.
      Let me know where you are located and what speakers are included in the $5,000 package.
      Thanks for the question and I hope you are staying safe out there!

      I saw better deals on ebay $900 for 2 in good condition, last gen. Other posts ranged 3 for $1100-1300 but they were missing grilles and had knicked corners.

      @blazermdx  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are all amazing speakers and I am sure the seller will get the asking price but there’s definitely better deals to be had.

      I don’t have any personal experience with the THX-6000, only the KL-650-THX. After looking at the specs, they appear to be identical. I am thinking it might be a regional naming convention or something?
      I never had the opportunity to compare the S150 to the KL-650-THX, unfortunately. The new Episode speakers I just reviewed, along with the S150 and KL-650-THX are all speakers that we’re designed to put HT performance first, in compact cabinets. I just love these styled speakers though.
      I have owned some of the nicer M&K lineup and I’ve always liked their sound.

      These speakers were designed for home theater and designed to be used with a subwoofer/subwoofers.
      These speakers will sound ok for music but there’s much better options out there. Again, these are best suited for movies and video games. They have amazing detail and can get extremely loud but you will need a sub or two, as these don’t produce tons of bass.

      I’ve owned a couple pairs of RB-61 II’s, they are great speakers. Now if I had to compare the THX 650’s against RB-61 II’s for music, the 650 would be the clear winner. I just don’t think the THX Ultra2’s are the best speakers for music.
      If you are looking for bigger and better sound for music, do you have room for tower speakers? The RF-62’s might be a better choice. There’s even other brands out there like Martin Logan and B&W that might fit your needs better. Not trying to steer you away from Klipsch as it’s one of my favorite brands of speakers, just want to point out that there’s many great brands out there.
      What do you feel the RB-61’s are missing? I just don’t want you dropping all that money on the 650’s and you not being happy.
      Again, the THX Ultra2 system can definitely play music well, I would just do tons of research before pulling the trigger on them first. There might be better/cheaper options out there.

      @thiagodelgado3128 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blazermdx RB61 II they have quality to endure many year's as the THX? it's a factor to me.
      In what KL650 wins? bass? clarity? bigger sound?
      I like the bass, but they can't fill the room 3000 ft³ of area of movie, and 5000ft³ total area room.
      I want to push to reference levels but only few movies reach the 106dB, it's a Denon X6500H in 7.1. Don't have a space to get tower, not without change anything(my wife don't wan't), So thinking about the two options, the KL650 or the RB81 II.
      So even to compare RB82 II and KL650 at 80/60Hz, KL650 the THX is expensive for what? (I was guessing the bigger sound, clarity, quality). And want to keep the 5.1 klipsch setup.

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These speakers are considered to be flatter tuned to present very accurate movie experience.
      There’s no doubt in my mind that these Ultra 650’s will produce a much “larger” sound at much higher volume than the RB-61’s and even the RF-82’s, but the 82’s will have more bass output.
      The Ultra 2 system was designed to be used in dedicated movie rooms and designed to be used with a subwoofer or better yet, subwoofers.
      You specifically mentioned music, and I know that’s not what Klipsch designed these speakers for.
      If you are looking for a high quality Klipsch bookshelf speaker for music, I’d be looking at the RB-75 or the RP-600m.
      In fact, I have 3 Ultra 650’s in storage and I just ordered a pair of RP-600M’s for a 2 channel system I have been building and they will be used for strictly music, if that tells you anything:)
      I would suggest you just get out there and listen to a few different speakers, from a few different brands, so you make the right choice when you decide to plop down your hard earned money.

      I do really love the speakers but I’d likely skip the subs and go with HSU, SVS, PSA, Rythmik etc. You would get much better performance, for the money this way.
      Thanks for taking the time to comment!

      @@blazermdx Would you ever consider seeing what the full force of these speakers can do? Take advantage of bluetooth and turn the actual speakers themselves up 100% and, instead, control the volume with the smartphone or tablet. with CD's this is impossible obviously lol. test the volume first, turning the speakers up gradually to make sure it's not SUDDENLY BLASTING YOUR WINDOWS OUT!!! lol but it works the best. not sure why

      Thanks! I ended up selling the subs, amp and surround sound speakers but I kept 3 of the 650’s for a future home theater. If I ever get the opportunity to buy a house, that is:)

    did you use them as a phantom center?

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was at the time of that video but I also ran the center in that room. It definitely sounded better with the 3 650’s across the front but I didn’t like the looks, since my room is so small.

      Average Guy Hi-Fi yeah I was lucky enough to buy to Klipsch 650 for $600 each from Amazon about a year ago but returned them for the same issue, I was living in an apartment at the time and just look like to much, def easier to place within a deadicated room than a living room. I loved the neutral sound, and they sounded great at low volumes as well. Now that I’m ina. House again I’m eager to pick some up again.

      Brad in SoCal I still have 3 650’s in storage for my future, dedicated, theater. If that ever happens:/
      They are amazing speakers, that’s for sure. You have great taste!

    Center?

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the center but wasn’t using it in this configuration. My place is so small that I didn’t think the improvement in sound, was worth the visual trade off of having such a large speaker sitting above the TV.
      Check out the Episode video I uploaded last week, they are very similar sized/shape to the Klipsch 650’s, and I had them running with the center.

    They are too big for your living room. These speakers have to play in a big homecinema.

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      100%. These are definitely designed for larger rooms.
      I sold everything but the3 KL-650’s. I’m planning on either running 5 KL-650’s plus surrounds or 5 M&K S-150 plus surrounds in my theater, if I ever get a dedicated room.
      These aren’t designed to go in 600 SF condos but boy, it sure was fun trying:)

    These speakers i find ugly and cumbersome, but that being said your display deffinately makes them attractive

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it seems most people don’t like the looks of these speakers and that makes sense, considering Klipsch really intend these to go in walls or behind an acoustically transparent theater screen.
      I’m probably a little off but I like the looks of the 650’s and I really like having the front 3 speakers all matching. My new speakers are very similar in design, ported rectangle speakers with a tweeter and dual 6.5” woofers.
      Thank you for the compliment and for taking the time to comment, I truly appreciate it!

      I might be going with a 4K laser projector down the road but I can assure you, the picture of my C9 OLED will likely be impossible to beat when it comes to picture quality😬
      With that said, 65” is about as small of a TV I have owned the past 15+ years. I would love to get a laser projector with a 100” screen🤤
