Very cool video! Hope you do more of these showing people’s journeys in the hobby. We all know Rome was not built in a day, but the journey of building it is part of the fun part! I bet this room sound incredible!
Maybe in the future you can follow out a couple of build outs and sound trouble shooting journeys. This way we get a better idea of different treatments and how they worked out in different homes/rooms.

Whats crazy is that I always loved home theater and didn't know how I wanted to do it until I found your channel. Also channel use, brands, etc.. Your channel completely transformed me and now I know my subject matter and budget and do the exact same thing upgrading.
I started with a Pioneer 5.1 Home theater in a box for 2 years then moved up to a basic Yamaha RX780 and found a great deal on a HKTS 30BQ and Klipsch R115SW. Then found another Klipsch 115SW.
This year I found some great deals on Anthem MRX1120, Harmon had an insane deal on their Infiniti Reference series and got the 3 way center, dual towers, 4 on wall surrounds and Klipsch had a great deal on their Klipsch 500SA got 4 of those. And got another great deal on another Klipsch R115SW so I have 3 now.
Thanks Youthman, learned a lot from your channel and great community!!!!

My first question was also, "can I afford it?"... the answer was "no". The 2nd question was, "am I going to do it anyway?". The answer was "yes". I like the acoustic diffusers, I also want to do some of these but they look like a lot of work to build. I guess I'm going to have to keep that same 'I'm going to do it anyway' attitude on that too.
I wouldn't spend the money for the JTR subs, get Dayton Ultimax 18" drivers instead with DSP plate amps or whatever amplifiers with minDSP in front of them. I'm planning to use six 18" Ultimax drivers in infinite baffle.
Titus, you did a great job! If you didn't say you had done all that yourself I would have thought you had the acoustic treatment professionally done. I'm betting that if someone came in and did measurements they would find you optimized the balance between diffusion and absorption really well.

In a small room like that, you will NEVER be able to tell if they have 50 watts per channel or 5,000 watts per channel coming from those amplifiers assuming he is using a 80hz crossover. Just because a system has a lot of power, it has nothing to do with sound quality. Watts will allow you to be able to play the system louder and the amplifier quality will allow your speakers to sing at there fullest potential. I have an Emotiva amplifier and it sounds glorious, but don’t think because a sound system with more power means better sound.

My theater runs off of used speakers and a receiver that costs me 420$ for 4200$ worth of equipment and I run dual diy subwoofers based of the svs 2000 pro which costs 2000$ but since I did diy, I built it for 470$. That theater definitely sound better than any cinema I’ve been to and at the age of 20!

Great system! Bet it sounds amazing!! If I could make one suggestion tho is maybe transfer your components to an AV rack? Would allow for a cleaner look and allow you to remove the stand for more space. Either way great setup again! 👍🏽

Butt kickers are tricky. You pretty much need an amp with separate volume. I actually used an RCA sub output off my Oppo player (not my receiver like my other subs) into my bass shaker amp so I could use that separate bass volume control for even more flexibility. I actually had the opposite problem with them not being loud enough initially even when the amp is turned all the way up. What type of couch you have (the more wood in the frame the better) has a lot to do with it, but also the thickness of the mdf they are mounted too if you went that route, and of course where in the couch they are mounted all have an effect on how they feel. You just need to play with it a bit but I promise when you get it dialed in they are worth it. Also, putting some rubber non-skit/sound isolation feet under your couch feet (like you’d get at Home Depot for your washer/drier) helps to keep those shakers from rattling your floor and creating extra noise in your (or the adjacent) room. I also have a shag carpet under my couch which hides them perfectly. Lastly, don’t under estimate the RCA cable you run to that amp. At first I used the crappiest one I could find because I didn’t think it would matter. Trust me, it DOES matter! I was changing out some components in my system and for $hits and giggles I swapped out that crummy cable for a decent one, and OMG what a difference! The sound went from just a rumble to something (dare I say) actually somewhat tonal or musical. Even my wife immediately noticed the difference, which is always the true tell. 😉. Love the theater man btw. Mine is 10 years in the making and I’m not much further then you.. mainly because I live in Alaska and it’s hard (if not impossible) to find stuff used, and nobody wants to ship heavy components up here. Like you said, patience is a virtue and as there is no designation, we just need to sit back and enjoy the journey!

Is it possible to use 2 centre speakers ie above and below the tv. Both from same model and range connected to a Marantz 8015 avr.

  • @unixsuperuser

That’s what I want too man! Floating ceiling with lighting. Also, THX recommends a single 18 or dual 15 subs. I read that a long time ago so I would imagine that’s remained the same or even increased.

I too plan to put together a starfield when I do a dedicated room.
I am planning 4 subs, most likely PL-200IIs. My goal is to get flat to 20hz without breaking the bank. Anything more than that is a bonus.

How did I miss this video for a year? I have the full 7.2 set, plus a Rhythmik LVX15 and 4x cdt-5800-c II in the ceiling in a similar size room (12 x 18 with 4' knee walls going long way). When yall say it can get better than this, I don't even believe you! Lol.
JTR Captivator or 2x PB16s in that size room, may want to also invest in extra homeowners insurance coverage!
