P85D was "top of the line" D meant dual motor.(front & rear motors)
Nope - there was no dual motor available in 2013 and the 85kWh was as good as it got.
I know here in Europe there was a P85+ available@@AutoAuctionRebuilds
Odd. I could have sworn my friend had a dual motor back then but I could be wrong. I’m getting old and my memory isn’t as good as it once was.
Im suprised your new used tesla randy still driving with 300k miles on the odometer my uncle's teslas broken down the batteries on his needed to be replaced at 75k.
@@JGarcia2016 75k miles are still under warranty so it should still be on the road.
Almost 300k miles or not... A working/driving Tesla for under $8k is an awesome deal. I'd be interested in seeing how long this car could last and how it does on road trips!
A refurbished battery from a company like recell should be about 11k installed. Im interested yo see where this goes
@@nick-zc9xv but if telsa find out it happened they will turn of fast charging and other stuff that was payed for and if that happens its pointless for stuff longer than its range.

The gearbox oil would require periodic changing.

Hey Randy! Not sure if you knew this but teslas have a service mode. To use it , go to the software menu, then press and hold on the model designation (Model S P85). When a prompt box comes up, type in service. Then you should be good to use it! To exit it there should be a red box somewhere (not sure where exactly so I’m mentioning it lol.)
Thank you!
I have a 2020 model x and a 2023 model Y. I know you can run a battery degradation test to see if there is any range loss but you will need the car plugged in. It’s a shame that they did not leave a charger in the car. You can also use the service mode to check the hvac components
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds anytime!
How much for the Grand National?
@@chrisgentile3530, it was probably a repo and that is why he didn't get a charging cable and someone's glasses are still inside.
You got one hell of a steal. Congrats. Reminds me of when I got my 2012 Prius with only 70k miles for $8k back in 2018. Here it is 2024 and I can sell that same car with 95k miles for over $10k. The whole reason I buy used is because I expect a car to lose a lot of value very quickly. But instead it went up! What a crazy world. Never would happen if you buy a new car though.
Until covid! Bought my model 3 in June 2020 and sometime in 21 or 22? My car was worth more than a new one! Wait times for teslas were months away so people were willing to buy used ones for more than the price of a new one.
COVID production shortfalls blew a massive hole in the supply of used cars. They're going to be more expensive for years and years - it's kind of like what Cash for Clunkers did but at a larger scale.
Randy, you might want to check under the rear cargo floor panel for a charger too.
Hey Randy sorry to bring this up to you of you haven't figured it out yet, but Tesla would have wiped the free supercharging when it hit their trade in inventory. Hope I'm wrong but a very good indicator of this is your premium connectivity expires not free either.
Premium connectivity believe for 2022 and before models rest got to pay.
That’s not 100%. There are many older Model Ss that still have free charging. The payment message is concerning though
Tesla yanked the free supercharging. If you can prove the car had it when new, then I can restore it. They are playing dirty. (I have restored supercharging on thousands of cars)
me personally i couldnt see spending 7800 on a car with 300k miles on it
If you have enough money, why not? Have fun, enjoy life.

Really excited to follow your progress on the Tesla, looking forward to this series.I am just burned out on gas powered vehicles,my 2020 Honda every time I take it in for work,it’s not covered by warranty.
Happy new year Randy. Really hope that this year is good for you and the channel 🎉❤
With life time charging I would keep it indefinitely! $20,000 for a battery would make sense when you could drive for free !
$5,000 sounds better!
I take it as a personal challenge to get as many miles as possible out of a car .I'm driving a old Honda that I paid $900. 5 years ago that had 134,000 miles and now has 307,000 . Unfortunately she's got more blow by coming out of the oil fill than the exhaust!
Just add some more crankcase ventilation you'll be fine 😊
I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy a Tesla on the secondary market! A new battery is $20k, a new motor is $5!! Add in the money you bought it for and it turns out that this car is absolutely not worth it!! I wouldn't buy a car battery from someone other than Tesla, as they burn very quickly and it's almost impossible to extinguish a Tesla on the road!! It's very dangerous to put a cheap battery in there
@@alexafanasyev1937 you sound like the hypothetical naysayer he is talking about at the very beginning of the video. New batteries aren't $20,000 they're $11,000, I've got a high-mileage 2013 Model S just like the one in this video and I've been through the process. (of finding out how expensive it is... I still have the original battery) No idea about the cost of the motor... but it has lasted 200,000 miles without any maintenance - I got no reason to suspect it will break... they are not known to break.

Wow what a deal! You’re living the dream right now! I knew Teslas would finally hit their “old enough to be a cheap used car” phase, but I didn’t think it would be so soon!
Mine is @285.000, battery fixed @250.000. At the same time, to prevent damage, motor was rebuilt, too. Both cost around 6k. BTW, battery is at 96% still.

I miss the Plymouth you had. I can’t wait for the motor swap and the work that’s gonna be put into the Monte Carlo. Your content is great Randy.
I'm late to this video but seeing a non expired New Hampshire inspection sticker is a pretty good sign. In NH, you have to get your car inspected yearly and it's not just emissions or a rubber stamp. They have an entire checklist to make sure the car is roadworthy
Happy New Year Randy to you and your family, love the new Tesla!
The frunk issues are also a reoccurring thing with my tesla and I have around 140 miles on my Tesla Model's long-range 2014, I wasn't sure until you showed me. Thanks, also great work on finding such a nice purchase.

If I'm not mistaken, Tesla disables free supercharging on trade in Model S vehicles.
If you trade it through Tesla , if its stayed in private hands free charging is still available .

You typically should get around 4 to 6 volts to a blower motor on low speed and the full 12 volts when the AC is at its highest speed. The resistor module being the device that steps the voltage up and down. I’d start with diagnosis, then you can identify the fault - before buying any parts 😉

The battery maybe larger than 85 but software limited hence the buffer means the range may be as good as new. It will be free to run. Perfect commuters car
Bingo. It has a newer (not refurb) 90kWh pack that is software limited.
@@AutoAuctionRebuildsHow do you know the replacement was new? Did you see the actual invoice?
@@JetFire9probably the serial number on the pack.
In practice you want to leave it software limited since this will prevent the battery from overcharging and overdischarging, thus extending the battery life significantly.
I seen this earlier Randy. So impressed this Tesla has that many miles and looks good. Hope the blower motor isn’t hard to replace. Super charging free for life that’s awesome!
On the firebird do a fluid change on the rear end and make sure you add the additive to it .
Free for life “of said battery” not the battery replacement!
@@philipbunker146 wrong. Free for the life of the car not the battery.
Usually when Tesla gets ahold of the free supercharging vehicles they disable it. Especially when it goes to auction. I’m guessing this vehicle doesn’t have it.

Randy you should definitely get this thing on the lift, and do a video on how well it has held up over so many miles- especially considering it came from new Hampshire. I wonder if this is one of the highest mileage Teslas ever recorded.
There are Tesla Taxi services that have logged far more miles than this one, believe it or not. The company is called Tesloop out of California and they've been around almost as long as the Tesla S.
@@Winglessflight97True!! And those Tesla’s have needed zero repairs or maintenance because EV’s only have 1 moving part that NEVER fails. 😂😂😂😂
The one in space is the record holder at 46,000,000,000,000,000 miles and still going
There is at least one million miles Tesla around. Google it😊
A guy in Germany is pushing to become the world record holder for highest milage car. 1.18 million miles and counting. I'm sure Tesla is regretting the lifetime free supercharging and extended bumper to bumper warranty. He hasn't paid for charging or maintenance and repair for nearly 1,200,000 miles.
I’m been toying with the idea of getting a Tesla but going the used route. Since you have excellent knowledge with teslas that I have gathered from your videos, would you recommend it or no? Thanks! Love the videos. So entertaining and enjoyable.
Good for you for having the cahonies to buy this. It is pretty scary to me to buy this car. I'm interested in how it goes. There is no Tesla charger free charging here.
Great video! I also have a silver P85 from 2013 and I have owned it since new, and it has more miles than yours!!! LOL 277,000 and still drives great. The HVAC and the stereo need work (neither are totally broken). Drivetrain is solid. Your car may have been top-of-the-line when it was made, I can't remember - there was a "P85+" introduced with better suspension, but not sure if it was available in March 2013 when yours was built. Overall $7800 is an incredible deal - except for me, since I only have one to sell!!! 🤣
RE: free supercharging... perhaps there is some really bad news in your future. If the car was traded into Tesla last year (and they sent it to auction, that is totally not a surprise), it's possible the prior owner was buying a new Tesla and transferring the free supercharging OFF OF your car and ON TO the new car. That was a promotion they were running last year and literally stopped it 12 days ago. It was to get customers to take delivery by December 31st. We just did it... we bought a Model Y which now has free supercharging for life!!! (but it won't transfer to any subsequent car or owner) if you end up having to pay for supercharging, well, at least it's cheaper than gasoline.
A new Model Y with free supercharging for life? Helluva great deal there.
There's a fuse you have to pull if you want it to do burn outs. You can't normally disable the traction control. It will slip some on start, but will not burn out.
Hello fellow okie…. I chuckled when you spent 2 minutes defending the purchase of an EV to not upset the bud light - Nike - chick fil-a boycot crowd…
Good luck with the heat/air system, I’m curious so I’ll be following along
(I had to google Byers)
What a great deal! Not my cup of tea but if I was forced to buy an EV it would most definitely be a Tesla. Just waiting for more 70s, 80s and 90s muscle/pony car and truck videos to come out!
Is Superchargers about two mikes from me at the Meijer store that is on 3rd Avenue north. 😊
Most of the issues with the 2013 battery is the capacitor on the battery pack. If you can get that taken care of or find out if it has been replaced for the newer one , then you can get that battery for another 200k miles.
Capacitor? You mean fuse?
congratulations on the find!
That little kei car is bloody brilliant i really like it id drive it every day over here in the UK ❤
Very very interesting car 😂keep it up randy! That’s a lot of miles wowwww😂! And I’m surprised the battery is fine wow. Hope you get to charge it someway somehow ! Keep it up Randy!!!
You gotta paint the Be-1 like Mr. Beans car, yellow with a black hood 🤣
Congrats!! FYI: You can take that to a Tesla showroom and I’m sure they have a level 2 charger which you can charge the car.
Any Tesla with base included Autopilot is the ultimate road tripper. Not having to steer or manage throttle for many miles is nice. Relaxing all of your muscles while driving makes a big difference in terms of lower stress and you feel actually rested by the time you reach your destination instead of tired.
It does not have free supercharging any more as it was traded into Tesla. They removed it as they always do. The supercharging unavailable means you need to it up on your account and add a credit card for charging.
I don't think that's what's going on. I think it's grandfathered in even for owner changes, but they need the credit card to charge idle fees if you leave the car plugged in at a Supercharger and don't go back in time. If it completes charging (even when free), you get charged something like a $1/minute parking fee unless you return within 5 minutes.
@StalePhish It's already established in later videos that sc01 was in fact stripped.
@@StalePhish She is correct my friend. Ive had my 2015 MS 70D with FUSC for over a year now. Ive never put any credit card information into it. It also has free premium connectivity for life. Its "Free" Free. She is a keeper.
Even with free superchargin you need to register a card to your account.
@@Frygisk Not as of February 2022 when I sold my P85D. Was never prevented from charging without a credit card on my account.
I had a P85DL with 625KM on it, not too many real issues. Bought it new and it died when my daughter got t-boned! Was great, few issues in the beginning all fixed under warranty and I would still be driving it had it not been written off. Replaced it with a model s plaid
Wow cool I always liked the model S cause of how it looked. In my opinion though I hate the interiors of all tesla's. It's nice to see though one with this many miles and how well it's held up.
Bench test the blower motor that is in the trunk. I don't think that it has been installed yet.
You might want to look into something, this car could have a lifetime warranty, on the early cars, Tesla made a big mistake by offering a lifetime warranty.

Randy my friend,
Big time home run on the Tesla!
Reviewing the comments on this video, a question I’ve wanted to ask you for a long while comes to mind:
Why do so many KNOW-IT-ALLS feel like it’s their duty to leave nearly worthless comments on your videos?
I have several theories, among them are:
Their envy (and down-right jealousy) of your wonderful success.
Their very obvious lack of self esteem.
I’d be interested in your thoughts on this should you care to share them.
I’ll just add one more thing before I put everyone asleep:
I’m always thrilled to see someone’s success. The only thing I enjoy more is my own success!
Peace my friend,

Very Nice Cavalier Z24, very popular in the 80's/90's and the Mustang , that's my favorite Bodystyle but the Hatchback, 71-73.
Regarding the the Aircon, you can find the error codes in the Tesla service menu. Its easy to access
You need to have the Tesla MCU (media control unit=screen) updated. It showed 2G, no longer compatible with today's communication.
Better to have Tesla replace and have latest software/firmware confidence!
If it has been gently driven, drive unit should be okay. Expect to need replacement at some time.
You need to have Tesla confirm that it is original drive unit.
The battery replacement is not expensive if you request a remanufactured unit. Although new replacement are much much better, and worth it.
Probably went to auction because the diagnosis and repair time cost of climate control, MCU upgrade (required), possible drive unit, was not economical for resale due to high mileage. Just like any manufacturer used car, no warranty possible/available.
LIFETIME Supercharging is worth the price for the car! Tesla superchargers are usually located where you can walk/eat/toilet/window shop.
FYI, if the retractable sunroof leaks/problems, repair/replacing it is Tesla available. Although no longer available on the new cars.
Keep the exterior track slots clean. Cover/garage definitely helps.
You may expect to enjoy, keep this car for a long time. The performance is tough to beat.
Thank you. The MCU is 4g and updates just fine on LTE.
Remember, Elon hates those first Model S and X with free supercharging (lol Uncle Rich).

Hi Randy happy new year. Hard to believe that Tesla has that many miles on it. I am a DIY guy. So I'd like to know a budget-friendly scan tool that can program fobs. Chris from Pennsylvania. 🤗
Free unlimited lifetime transferable supercharging is always removed by Tesla whenever a car is traded back to them.

Wow that's pretty stingy!
A TH-camr named vlog creations had a fully functional combustion engine put in a Tesla of I think the same model it was cool and funny and I actually loved the idea another TH-camr has a LS powered tesla to and I love it
It's possible that the old blower motor froze up so bad it blew a fuse. That means just changing the motor won't fix the problem.
In late December 2023 I got a 2013 Chevy Volt with 63,000 miles on it and it has no battery problems whatsoever (it had been sitting for a while before I got it and it might still have an issue with the EVAP system but I'm going to wait until the weather warms up before I go into it).
Well Randy, electric cars will not work as easy as a conventional car. Until they do I will stay with the old ones.
Yet the previous owner managed to do nearly 300k miles in it. EVs obviously work just fine.
EVs are actually easier than conventional cars in a number of ways. There's much less regular maintenance. No oil changes or other such service that needs to be done, and for day to day driving you don't have to stop somewhere to refuel, instead you just charge at home, so it eliminates the need to stop at gas stations.
Congratulations on a Tesla yeah I believe you can get a Million miles on here with good maintenance. Of course every car has things that can break on it they’re not in destructible, but can be great day-to-day .a point B work cars.
First replace the fan motor, be sure your Hvac has enough coolant liquid otherwise you destroy the airco pump too.
Do not overload the battery by accellerating too strong, it
will destroy your battery cells. My range Is still 400 km's when I charge 82% and cruise 60 mph constantly. No serous repairs up till now. By the way, my modelS cost € 125.000 i !!
You might have to buy a adapter to get to read your OBD port it should behind the center console in the back you can get to it at the bottom where the carpet is it might be hard to get it open you need to take a piece of plastic off to get to the connection
I love that you got a good deal on this. Unfortunately it does seem to have been in some form of a collision, as the nuts and bolts that secure the “frunk” to the hinges have evidently been messed with, and the plastic tabs or clips that secure the cargo liner are showing evidence of being pried off. Those clips should not be pried off even with excessive normal wear and tear of the cargo area.
Those clips come off when you work on it, as I have removed them myself.
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds Makes sense. Love your content! 🤙
There's also the possibility that Tesla has replaced the once magnesium "radiator" support as it corrodes away at the fasteners due to dissimilar metals.
I personally buy cars with high mileage for 2 reasons first you get a great price but almost every car with 200k miles was wonderfully maintained just to get to 200k
Especially if you get one with a reliable motor like the 3800
That looks like a power stage for the blower fan, not a resistor.
The unit basically consists of a power transistor mounted to the heatsink.
The transistor is then pulsed in rapid succession to switch on/off the fan, giving it the set speed.
Tesla looks great. Should be a great video on figuring out the HVAC system
I call BS on the battery.
I bet it was replaced few yrs ago, now AC needs work so they trade in. Didn't want to dump more money
Exactly 💯. I would think there would be something you could look at if you had this car on a lift to check the wiring near the battery and also the main battery case should have markings or codes that give its year of manufacture on it. 😮😊
Wow, first impressions are pretty good, guess we will have to see on the battery condition once you manage to charge it, and I wonder if you will manage to fix the climate control
Is a Tesla center in Paramus, Nj and also i think one is up in Nashua, Nh . So it came from one of these two centers. 😊
My 85D currently has 259,000 miles on the clock and is giving me no cause for concern. I went to Italy (from the UK) for 6 weeks October/November last year. Covered 5,500 trouble free miles. Water ingress into the battery pack or motors are the most likely cause of issues on an old Model S. If you have a good EV service centre near by, it would be worth checking the battery pack seals and for corrosion. And drive shaft seals and coolant seals on the motor. If this is checked and any problems dealt with before they cause failure, your Model S should do another 250,000+ miles.
A 270k mile Tesla that's still working? I thought they were supposed to spontaneously combust at 50k miles like all the boomers claim.
lol most of the people i know that have teslas are boomers, and many ppl against getting evs are gen z and gen x
@@cantwealljustgetalong2 well that's a lie. It's extremely clear that boomers hate electric vehicles more than any other generation.

At minute 15 and you still haven't checked in the rear storage under the rear deck which is huge. UMC might be there but Tesla most likely remove it.

Cool purchase! Is free supercharging something they disclose in the Copart post? They are puting in superchargers a few miles from my house this year and that would be a great deal.
Wonder how much time that dude spent waiting for his tesla to charge
Not much if he charged at home. Plug it in and walk away.
It has 269k, not 300. It’s closer to 250 than 300. Whoever gets that it will probably take them 2 years to get to 300kz

No adaptive cruise control. Obviously you have a key, do you also have an insurance ? This is a great car, I bought it 10 year ago.Don't do bad things with this old lady, she is fragile.
I suspect this care is just fine. It was traded in just prior to the end of the year. Tesla was running a promotion if you traded in you could transfer your free supercharging to a new Tesla
I dont like evs when the government tried to force us to switch to evs not mapping with me.
I am sorry I hate teslas
Be neat to see just how far these cars last until dead in comparison to say a gas vehicle without changing the battery. Yrs/miles. I did see someone posted a new video recently and they found one with 420k miles on it!
There wouldn't be any records of DU or battery replacements unless they came with the car as Tesla won't disclose the history to you and they won't appear on carfax.

there must be a Tesla device that you can plug into the diagnostic port to see if there are any major faults

That Tesla doesnt have free supercharging as the owner thinks. It doesnt have it at all. My 70D has FUSC and it doesnt ask me to put in billing info. When it says supercharging unavailable, you dont have FUSC. Still a great car though.
That looked like a final stage resistor for the HVAC

If Tesla super charging is not available, then do a regular charging or use other chargers like charge point charging stations, you need a ccs adapter for that.
Awesome around town car. Free for life supercharging is a steal. I wouldn't even bother changing battery if it still can drive 120 miles
