    Northrop got robbed. This aircraft is one of the most beautiful planes ever produced. It’s a shame that this aircraft never got put into service.

    GUYS, long band radar can detect stealth craft, but it can also detect every tiny particle of matter in the sky until your radar screen is covered with static.
    It is very hard to use.

    A quick glance at the parallelogram wings and ruddervators, the highly canted ruddervators, combined with the sleek, smooth, streamlined fuselage will tell anyone that , even without adding RAM, this plane's fundamental shape beats the F-22 ''Craptor'' hands down in terms of RCS, supercruise and acceleration.

    Yay the F-23 returns :D. I always loved the F-22 and F-23, but was always sad that the F-23 never saw the spotlight like the 22. But now it has returned seemingly better than ever. XD

    This plane appears to have gone away. But i'm sure the air force had better plans for this "loser" jet. A plane this good just simply doesn't go away.

    • @Cocandre
      @Cocandre 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Miguel Rodriguez If it's too expensive and not adapted to the needs (like the F22) it goes away.

    • @MiguelRodriguez-zd6tq

      Cocandre yes, it goes away from the general public. But this plane was too good to just throw away. I'm sure many of the new technologies incorpotated were not discarded, specially if the system was considered revolutionary. A similar case: the f18 lost to the f16 in their contest for the USAF's light fighter, in the 70s. But the loser became the navy's premier fighter. Also, when a weapon is too expensive, the brass at the Pentagon will not necessarily discard it ALL the time, just like the f35.

    • @mapanggulo
      @mapanggulo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Miguel Rodriguez Actually a YF-17 lost to the F-16, the loser became the F-18, which is actually a heavier and slightly larger jet.

      +mapanggulo Yeah, after reading up on the contest between yf-22 and yf-23 it seems the testing criteria we're getting weighted for jobs that neither of the planes ultimately ended up being built for ( navy pulled out of the program ). I've heard this plane might have overall, been less expensive and just as capable ( if not more so due to the criteria ). Strange how these were evaluated.

    The Northrop/McDonnell Douglas YF-23 was an American single-seat, twin-engine fighter aircraft designed for the United States Air Force (USAF). The design was a finalist in the USAF's Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) competition, battling the Lockheed YF-22 for a production contract. Two YF-23 prototypes were built with the nicknames "Black Widow II" and "Gray Ghost".
    In the 1980s, the USAF began looking for a replacement for its fighter aircraft, especially to counter the USSR's advanced Sukhoi Su-27 and Mikoyan MiG-29. Several companies submitted design proposals; the USAF selected proposals from Northrop and Lockheed. Northrop teamed with McDonnell Douglas to develop the YF-23, while Lockheed, Boeing and General Dynamics developed the YF-22.
    The YF-23 was stealthier and faster, but less agile than its competitor. After a four-year development and evaluation process, the YF-22 was announced the winner in 1991 and entered production as the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor. The U.S. Navy considered using the production version of the ATF as the basis for a replacement to the F-14, but these plans were later canceled. The two YF-23 prototypes were museum exhibits as of 2009

    • @InVisibleTechTV
      @InVisibleTechTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are several different kinds of radar. One of which is the radar signal that is generated by the aircraft to detect adversaries. B2 and F117 can be detected by tracing their radar transmissions. The YF23 had stealth radar transmissions. It was totally silent. And it had far superior engine cooling so its heat signature was minimal compared to the other two.

    • @XyroNO
      @XyroNO 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JEnkins91589 Your comparing apples to oranges. The F-117A has been retired for a few years now, although people still claim they see them from time to time. The F-117A was also one of the worlds first stealth aircraft (circa 1981), but from what I've gathered it was actually quite unstable in flight. The B-2 strategic bomber, is just that a bomber and is part of the U.S nuclear delivery system, it's made to stay in the air for quite literally days at a time.
      If you want actual stealth fighters then you have this as well as the F-22 and now the F-35. I also heard that the F-117A was more of a bomber in a sense, not really the kind of plane you'd want to be in during a dog fight. The F-117A/B-2 were designed to infiltrate enemy airspace, inflict maximum damage by hitting specific targets and then GTFO.

    A simple look at stealth is camo. (1) It works best for those who are not looking for it. (2) If its technology is leaps and bounds over its opponents. (3) A tool that is wielded by a master. (who is better trained at it and its use). But no matter how you look at it, it still is a big advantage to those who have it.

      wrong. most of the tech the Yanks claim they invented they stole from other countries. computors and internet was invented by allan turing a british scientists in the 1930,s. Out of all the major countries the USA was the last to get a jet plane. Britain had jet planes in the 1930,s. yanks didnt get them till the early 1950,s. Britain had jets flying by 1933. But due to budget cuts and lack of jet fuel they didnt enter service till 1944.
      Recent figures show the USA is the most religios of all the NATO countries. they have the lowests education, highest crime rates, worst health care and lowest on tech. they r about 30 years behind on tech to all the other NATO countries and lowest morals.
      Being x brit army we planned what would happen if the soviets attacked NATO. the result was USA would be wiped out in less than a week. Thats due to very poor training very poor equipment and poor disapline. The soviets alone without the other warsaw pact countries outnumbered NATO 100 planes to 1 500 -1 on tanks. the soviets tanks and planes were also far higher quality than the US ones. in tests we worked out only the british and german armies could stand up against the soviets. but even then we wouldnt of lasted more than a month.
      The soviets made it clear they had no fear of the yanks. the only thing that held them back was fear of the british and german military.
      In a war u need weapons that r cheap and fast to replace not very expensive weapons that r very hard to replace. Whats the point in spending millions on 1 plane that can get shot down by a very cheap anti air missle? The Iraqis shot down several stealth bombers using very cheap obsolete russian anti air missles. Whats the point in having a plane that has to spend 30 hrs in maintance between each mission before it can fly another mission? 1 EMP blast can take out every weapon the yanks have in seconds due to their reliance on computors to work. My unit had computerised systems but we rarely used them cause we knew the danger of EMP weapons taking them out. so we trained to use older systems that we can use without all the tech. Russia has EMP weapns that cant be detected or stopped once fired. They dont need to drop a nuke to get the EMP its just a radio wave they launch from satelites. no warning and no way to block it. USA has them as well. its what causes the power failures in the US as they r test firing them and it knocks out power lines and power stations.
      Example from WWII spitfires were expensive to build and took a long time to repair them. 2k spits were built nearly all were shot down. hurricanes fast and cheap to build. 20k built 1k shot down. Spits could only operate in europe cause other places were not compatable with the design and the airfields had to be very flat and smooth. hurricanes could fly from just about any field and could operate in any climate. Development of the spit started in 1933 and was taken out of servuce in 1945. Hurricane development started in 1916 and r still in service to this day but under diff names. its currenty called the eurofighter. other names the hurricane used was hart, fury, typhoon and tempest. all the same plane just redesigned and upgraded. With the fury they just took off the top wing. lowerd the bottom wing made it bigger and altered the engine cowling to fit in the merlin engine.
      When a spit got hit by bullets it took weeks to repair it and get it back in the sky. They would have to use a welding torch to cut out the damaged section them get another section sent over from the factory which usualy meant making it 1st. Hurricanes they just used a bit of wood glue and a wooden plug and filled the hole in then glued a bit of cloth over it. on avargae a hurricane only took about 30 mins to repair refuel and rearm before it could take off again. spit usualy took several hrs to rearm and refuel without doing repairs.
      Even though the spit got all the glory from the battle of britain they were actualy very poor in dogfights against the ME109,s. the only advantage they had was they were 2 miles an hr faster and could climb faster. but the ME109 could dive faster and turn faster. Hurricanes were slow but could out turn the ME109 which is whats needed in a dog fight the ability to out manouver the other plane.
      In a combat test done in asia a couple of years ago they put the F35, F22, F18 and F16 up against the russian migs and SU,s. no contest the russian planes won hands down. the yank planes were blown out of the sky before they even spotted the russian planes. So much for stealth lol. At least the F16 got a few shots off before they went down but failed to hit anything. the F35 and F22 didnt even know what hit them at close dog fighting range let alone BVR.

    How did you managed to take this picture of the invisible man ?

  • @ThamMalaysia
    @ThamMalaysia 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The YF-23 was FAR MORE stealthier and
    MUCH faster than the F-22 ''Craptor''.
    The YF-23 on the F120 engines had breathtaking
    acceleration and supercruised at no less than Mach 1.64
    (some sources say above Mach 1.80), while the ''Craptor''
    supercruised at a struggling Mach 1.43 on the F119 engines.
    Common sense would tell anyone that, even without
    RAM, the parallelogram wings and steeply canted ruddervators instantly conferred very small RCS to the YF-23.
    And it doesn't take a stealth scientist to tell us that,
    without RAM and other stealth enhancing features,
    the basic conventional shape of the F-22 could not
    possibly survive in the face of modern radar defences.
    Northrop's Chief Scientist at that time, Yu Ping Liu
    said - '' We knew their (the YF-22's) RCS. There was
    no way we could have lost . ''
    The selection of the F-22 has been called by some
    as the ''biggest scam in US military history''.

    If the Raptor's been cancelled from being ordered now, can't the YF-23 chime in? Perhaps, it's cause the F-23 is more expensive, and if they took it first, the F-23 would have been gone from production in a year....

    The F-23 was far superior to the F-22. But, P&W said if they didn’t win the contract they would shut down their military assembly plants and go strictly commercial. So the government saying they paid for the developed technology stole the engine plans from GE and gave it to P&W because the GE engine would super cruise. That is Mach 1.5 without afterburners. Plus the materials in the engine made for much less fuel consumption and much less heat. The 23 should have been selected. Politics played out on this one big time. Maybe GE’s kickbacks weren’t enough. I know this because I worked for one of these companies on the project.

    Hey I thought this was "invisible". Funny story - last Fall in Duluth I got great video of the f-22 which had to fly super low because of clouds that nearly stopped the show. Next day I heard the loud bird go over on its way East - and behind it an even louder plane that was only a ripple in the sky and actually invisibe - probably my design for a super fighter usign HOPE tech with a magnetic field around ti that bends light, and mazer weapons, so it is nealry invisible. Videos to follow if I escape"them"!!!!

    looks like a great plane, it even looks meaner than the other stealth aircraft. Well sometimes politics effects mission readiness, efficiency and effectiveness mostly for the worst and thus the YF-23 will never see production in any real numbers.
    Also we must always look at the logistics of fielding such craft. this seem to never enter the minds of the weapons manufactures and Generals as aircraft like this can spend as much as 10 hours in maintenance for every hour in flight.

The two jets competed for the Air Force's ATF (Advanced Tactical Fighter) program and the YF-23 Black Widow II Lost the contest. The YF-22 won an continued to be researched and developed into the production version we have today, the F-22A Raptor.

    I was in the air force when the competition between the YF-22 and the YF-23 where held and the YF-23 was a better airplane in all respects except one. The Name of the manufacturer was Northrop. They've been getting screwed by the government for a long long time. The decision was made to get the 22 because "they need the business more than Northrop". I read that as someone bribed the decision making people.

      The agility difference between the two was minimal the thrust vectoring didn't make much of a difference for the F22 they both achieved the same 70degree aoa. The difference was the Northrup team wasn't allowed to say the flight capabilities at the time because the numbers were so good the air force literally didn't believe them. The big difference was the huge canted vertical stabilizers don't have flaps they actually fully rotate

      Invisible means 'not visible to the eye.' The use of 'invisible' to say 'not detectable by radar' is hyperbole. Furthermore, it *is* detectable by radar. It is just less detectable. Between the two of us, I am clearly not the dumbass. You can keep your personal insults to yourself, along with the rest of your worthless, ignorant words. Thanks.

    • @jorelldye4346

      Actually "invisible" can mean very different things depending on context. Duke University researchers just invented an acoustic cloaking device that is "invisible to sonar". It isn't an impossible exaggeration, but rather an alternate definition, so the word hyperbole was inappropriate for your comment as well. Your first comment was clever and funny, but your second comment was neither. You're certainly not a dumbass, but that guy is indeed a prick.

    It really depends upon what airspeed you're talking about.
    The F-23 had superior maneuverability at higher airspeeds, and also had laminar flow over its wings through much greater angles of attack (because of the same wedge wing design that reduced viscous drag). The F-22 had superior handling at low airspeeds due to thrust vector control.
    It basically boils down to whether you want to look good at airshows or kill things.
