Good plans, adding in the extra small bedroom at the landing upstairs. There's space for it. Might be a bit dark but that can be fixed with lighting. Layout makes sense. 😊👍
It's good to take time out and check and see what you've accomplished, which is a lot. Such excellent work takes time, so im glad to know we still have quite some time to share with you and Suze and your friends. ❤🎉❤🎉
Hi Grahame! What a fantastic walk-through! We got the satisfaction of seeing those gorgeous finished rooms and a fuller picture of what work remains. My favorite plan is reclaiming your terracotta floor tiles for the kitchen backsplash. Heavens, that shower tile in the en suite is glam!
The planned changes will make a huge difference in my humble opinion. I think the Terracotta Tiles as a splash back will be amazing if you can rescue the tiles. Don't know why the lights are flickering sorry. Lovely update Grahame. Take care mate. Cheers, Huw
The fireplace in the corner is commonplace in older French properties. It allows for furniture placement around the walls in a wider variety of configurations than a fire in the middle of the room. I noticed the wallpapered doors, you've gotta love the French lol. Whitewashing the bedroom floor ? Don't be daft. It looks nice for a day, after that it very quickly looks grubby and chipped and besides, why vo er up the character you get from woodgrain. Get some Osmo oil down and it will just get better with age. As for the other ideas - sounding very interesting!
Thanks for the interesting tour. What a lot of work (and videos) ahead. Good luck Grahame. Had a giggle when you talked of flying over and difficulties in getting the freezer through customs. Taking cabin luggage to excess! 😊😊
cheers John, they wouldn't let me bring a bottle of Fanta through last week never mind a freezer, so I just drank it, and bought another one in the duty free shop... crazy cheers
Smart man not doing the roof work, late hubby fell off a roof at work was out of work for a year after they reconstructed his ankle, first conversation after the accident was amputation, so he was lucky to save his foot. The house plans look daunting, but you've done great so far. I can't believe it's been five years, where has the time gone?!
its a long drop to the road lol yes 5 years , but covid stopped work for a long time, as we were not able to enter the country... many thanks as always..
Interesting to hear about the future plans for the rest if the house. Plenty to keep you busy for the foreseeable future! Love the care, craftsmanship and artistry that goes into everything you do, so I am excited to see what will come next! As always, thanks for taking on the extra work to bring us along.
Sorry but that water tank needs moving, may I suggest next to the en-suite next to the shower. Frees up space next to sink, especially if you were to box it in too.
thats the only place for it, it also has to supply the other bedroom ensuite and the kitchen, we looked at every possible place and that made the most sense, it won't be seen once the kitchen is finished.. many thanks
Wow! I didn't realize there was so much left to do, either. I thought you were close to the finish line. It's good that you're taking your time doing it right the first time. You've got the important places done first, so you can work on extra rooms at your leisure. Looks great! ❤
Those tiles under the stairs are,i think, tomets. Tomets are tiles made by hand. They use a special clay for them. You can still buy them but they are very expensive.
Nothing against your plannings for the house, but what about a master plan to make them come true? After appr. 5 (five) years there is not 1 (one) room completed! There is not a squaremeter in the house that has not yet been touched by a hammer, chisel, brush etc., but nothing is really finished. There was always something bothering you to stop a (just or earlier started) job and to start something new. Example kitchen: The sink can't be fixed because the self made counter is in the way. Why? Has the house been shrinking? Couldn't the sink already be considered while the counter top was made? During your tour of the sites it was impossible for me to remember the year or the episode when you or your guests had been working there already.
Good evening Christian, You obviously have a huge amount of experience in project management from your comment. I have followed Grahame for many years and I can honestly say that I don't know many people who could have achieved what he has, mainly on his own. If you have followed the progress since the beginning, which I have, you would see that lots of rooms have been finished and to what I can see a high degree of finish. I also notice that you don't have any content on your YT page to show us all how it should be done and managed. Please remember that Grahame is not, and has never professed to be, a professional builder just a person that wants to renovate a property he has bought for his own use and document his efforts along the way. I also believe that when you are project managing a renovation yourself and doing the work yourself that the work involved will always be a fluid process. I do thank you for supporting Grahame by watching his video and taking the time to comment and really look forward to seeing your future thoughts on Grahame's efforts. Cheers, Huw
Hi Christian, thanks for your comment, I may be wrong but I'm guessing your a relatively new subscriber, or just haven't watched all of the vids in the past. so let me answer your points. of course we have a master plan, its called getting the house completed, not easy to run to a schedule when your dealing with a 200 year old house, things have to change, be put to one side etc, maybe the suppliers are out of stock or the weather stops you doing a certain job, so the plan is just a guide. can I suggest you watch this vid? here's the link th-cam.com/video/e_NoIV-cLWw/w-d-xo.html it will show you 31 weeks of work on restoring rebuilding etc the cottage joined onto the house, all completed and now rented out for the last couple of years, so to say not one room is finished is a bit off the mark.. this doesn't include the time spent installing the Septic tank and soakaway in the garden. your correct when you say that we've owned the house for 5 years, but what you haven't taken into account was Covid that stopped us visiting for 1 year, so that means we have had only had 4 years of renovation time, then take into account Brexit which means in this remaining 4 years I have only been allowed to visit for 2 years, so in 2 years we've renovated a cottage from start to finish, completed the bedroom in the main house, started working the kitchen and en-suite, new floor on the landing, to make it safe to walk on, taken an unsafe chimney stack and wall down in the hallway, replaced an area of unsafe floor, plus many other jobs to many to mention etc. There are two rooms ( The lounge and the second bedroom) that haven't even been started except for a few electric cables hung in there. so in 2 years of actual work we haven't done bad.. thanks for your support its very much appreciated, cheers
@@OurFrenchHouseRenovation We have a problem. We are speaking different languages. What you call a master plan is in my eyes nothing but an intention. 'California or bust', that's what I call a master plan! And BTW, you use 'your' also for 'you are/you're/ u r ". During the last years you had enough chances to get to know your possibilities and capabilities. Why not use these experiences and make plans for your sites, i.e. write down everything that needs to be done e.g. in one room, calculate the time and set a date when this room has to be ready. And now comes the important thing: Stick to this plan by all means. Concentrate on this plan for this one site only! No alterations! Nothing else matters! You'll be astonished how fast you'll have time for another job.
Just a suggestion or two.The new small children's bedroom could make the stairway dark unless you can be clever with having the door at the top of the stairs with a glass panel above the door or in the door. I wouldn't have the children's door right in front of the top of the stairs Incase they walk out at night looking for the toilet.
many thanks, we've discussed having glass in the bedroom door, as it will be opposite the window, away from the stairs... we could possibly fit a skylight on the landing too.. cheers
Subjection... I'd open the kitchen the middle room and the lounge. Open concept would look beautiful and so much more roomier. ❤
Just amazing!! Well done....

Good idea for the small bedroom then the space will be used . Lots to do still ,but looking good all the way Grahame😘
