was 1:15:06 Cabal Paladin a misplay? It seemed like it would have been better to keep up 2 mana to sac spider with soothsayer, since it was obvious your opponent would crack artifact to kill it so he could swing in? At least you would get a card out of it and you couldn't really swing paladin in anyway next turn.

Honest question: started playing MtG not too long after Eldraine released so I have no idea what the meta was during Dominaria but, why is Navigator's Compass considered bad/mediocre? The way I see it it's relatively cheap mana fixing. Not as effective as Skittering Surveyor but it's still cheap and can fix one color.
Its way less effective than skittering, skittering is one of the best cards in the set and a very good first pick if you dont see removal (in fact, very few cards would be above it in terms of usefullness). If you look at Dominaria as a whole, its a relatively slow format that average around 3/3.5 avg card cost in most draft decks (maybe more if you consider kicker costs). While this may allow you to play mana fixing cards with less drawback, the #1 thing in dominaria is to either take advantage of the opponent before his bomb comes to play or to play your bomb ASAP. This is why removal ranks so so highly in Dominaria as opposed to say other formats like Eldraine. If youre going for a third color, the question you should ask yourself is: am I splashing a third, or, am I evenly split. In an even split, compass is OK. In splashing, compass is downright bad as it takes a space along with the lands youll need for splashing. It would almost be better to add another land (and go up to 18) than add compass, as at least that land would ramp up your total mana pool, allowing you to more easily play your bombs that are usually around 7/8/9 cc.
@@davidwest6019 Wow, that was an excellent answer. Thanks so much, that explains a lot! Now I also know why Shivan Fire is also valued so highly, even though to me at first it seemed like a kickable Shock.
@@DrossProwler Np. Do you know about the site Draftsim? The card rankings, while not completely accurate, should at least relay the relative value of cards. Hey man... I follow your channel for quite sometime and I truly believe you're one of the best drafters out there... So don't take me wrong when I ask, do you actually win all your drafts (I only remember a vid where you went 6-3)?? Or do you post only your wins? Don't get me wrong for asking this but I need to know because I sometimes have a nice draft and I lose like 3 games in a row due to flood/starv and/or a perfect hand from oponent... I seldom see that happen in your vids... Again I don't even dream comparing your game level with mine but still... Just a curiosity :)

Why do you keep ignoring navigator compass? I think it's better than nothing when you play 3-color deck. I used to play with some of them, sometimes even 2-3 in the deck and it works! Just curious. Still love ur videos
Not a rag on LegenVD, but honestly, my games are so much harder than what I see on this channel its not even funny. I think timezone/country have a lot to do with it. Played about 10+ drafts of dominaria, currently ranked Diamond. The times ive swept through were when I drafted very very good (almost unfair) green/black saproling decks, otherwise, complete toss up. Ive played against decks that were simply unfair, like the white historic decks that can win turn 5/6 if you dont have removal in hand (mixture of the 3/2 archer, 2/2 fs, vig, lifelink, the doublestriker, lance on board, hero, etc). I dont think if I made a deck with 1 2 drop creature, Id win a majority of games in my pool. Curve can be more drawn out in dominaria (3 to 3.5 avg), but against some decks like U/R wizards, W/B historic, G/R aggro, the deck I see above wouldnt cut it. Youd be at 10 hp by turn 5 looking down 3-4 creatures with plenty of tricks in opponents hand. Especially 3 color decks with little fixing and almost even spread of colors.
The first stream day of DOM drafts was, as sad as I am to say it, kind of a disaster for him as well. It honestly was a bit hard to watch by the end. The next stream completely redeemed it, but still. Some days you just get lucky, and others you just get bodied.

You know, i think the reason dominaria is such a good draft mode is because you for some reason get passed WAY more rares.

This was a great draft! So fun to watch!
Darigaaz is awesome, got him in one too, also eldest reborn in that, my fave card of all time

my fav thing about your drafts is that you pick the fun cards rather than the ‘good’ cards in situations like this one
1:24:10 "Urgoros can hold off Adeliz...
Adeliz, that's the hope."

Sparring construct turn one helps turn your turn 2 bad 1/3 witch or scout into a good 2/4 blocker
love these vids!
I like torgaar more than all those other cards you had at that point I think, can be quite devastating if it enters early
It looks like there's a minor bug with equipping Helm to the Sapherd. It looks like the Saproling token gains haste as well.
Why would it not have haste? Garna makes all other creatures have haste (if you are referring to match 3).

Compass is a bit of a trap, as it doesn't add mana by itself. Playing an extra land over it is often a better form of manafixing.
