    Instead of burning food for charcoal for the smelter early game when you don't have enough cores, you can just build the charcoal kiln first and stock up on coal. Then destroy it and build the smelter. It takes the same amount of resources to build them

    When chopping trees, you can use your body to roll the logs into other trees via momentum damage. I was able to do this early game with Beech colliding into Birch to get logs I didn't have access to at the time. With mining, if you dig around the rock to expose the entire thing and then destroy the bottom, you will SHATTER the entire boulder and collect the resources as a whole.

    I do haven't seen anyone mention it personally, but when you get up to bronze age, I believe that if you upgrade your buckler a bit, you can start to parry trolls. makes them easier to kill if you get the timing right.
    also, use your troll armor to explore, you get a sneak bonus and if you have abyssal knife, you can press middle mouse button during a sneak to do a jump attack to do massive damage, enough to kill a troll.

    pertaining to upgrading gear: when it comes to sharing resources with others on a shared map, especially if you have your resources pooled together, it's usually a good idea to upgrade with the stuff you gathered personally. most people won't begrudge you using the resources to make yourself gear at the new tier, but if you've never even been to the swamp and you've used 120 iron (and all the other mats that go into it) to make yourself a level 4 iron sledge, people might get salty. this goes for food and other consumables too. if you've never even picked up a cultivator, don't just take stacks of turnip and carrot soup (or fish wraps, or the other high tier stuff) from the food chests. learn how to make the stuff and if you take a stack of a type of food, at least make sure you place the mats for that item into a material box for the others that are with you. or here's my favorite. if you find a box with 8 full stacks of iron ingots and 2 stacks of chain in it, don't grab all that iron and chain and take it to another server and then wonder why the people from the server you took it from are unhappy. dunno, maybe that kind of stuff belongs in a manners vid.

    1- you can stack wood and stone by letting them clip one in the other just a pixel away and have WAAAAAAAAAAY more then 10 stacks one in another.
    2- Natural resources which are not rocks do regenerate over time. falln branches will reappear as well as berries and flint and rocks.
    3- chests clips slightly one in the other, this makes you save space if you can clip them well
    4- you can stack up to 6 roasters on a bonfire if you're accurate..
    5- switching weapons according to enemies makes you carry more weight but also be more prepared. A bardache against a lot of smaller enermie makes you save stamina due the great AOE attack while weapon and shield are good against single enemies.
    6- water trenches are your best friend and worst nightmare; if you want to make one, be sure to not fall in it.
    7- palisades can host platforms which allows you to shoot from above
    8- the totems are gold. With the totem a wooden structure can take up to 4 troll log atttacks without falling down to pieces, without you just lose the house in one hit.
    9- seadragons can be brought onto land to be hunted easily but tends to return into water once de-harpooned. To prevent this and their free just drag them in a pond high enuogh for them to swim into and they'll go tho the next water spot which is namely the pond.
    10- may be obvious but: never, NEVER, *NEVER* be without the well rested buff. You won't be able to flee or to attack. During night with cold means nearly certain death.
    Glad to help ;)

    To avoid burning yourself on a campfire, build a square from the 2m log beams or wooden half-walls and place the campfire in the middle. This blocks you from getting to close to the fire, but still gives acces to cooking and refueling. if you have a fireplace setup indoors, a single log beam at the bottom will do the trick.
    When gathering plants, mushrooms and berries, go to settings and turn vegetation to low. This removes alot of undergrowth and makes resources much more visible

    Use 2 portals at home, one with a fixed name (Home for example), and one for which you can change names (I create a big tree like structure behind mine with signs to remember destinations).
    When you establish a new portal far from home, just dial it to Home, pass through, rename the second portal at home with your chosen name, reuse the Home portal and give the final name to the far away portal.

I generally have portals in each biome, but to get to a new place I portal through, then go on an exploration adventure. if I forget to change the name of the old portal am stuck in a new biome miles from the old portal and an inactive one I just built. Best tip I've picked up: You can place floor panels ahead of you by placing a panel over the corner of the one you're on and moving the cursor forward - the next panel will snap to the panel below. I haven't tested it with beams, but I bet it would work there, too.
    Best tip I've discovered: Wood and stone piles will clip into each other, so each additional pile takes up 1/3 the space of the first one, which looks a lot better than individual piles, too (expensive decoration).
    Likely to be patched: You can place a campfire indoors on top of two dropped pieces of core wood. (c/o FireSpark81 on YT)
    Personal preference: Carts make a great dump chest near the entrance of your base.
    Biggest "Duh!" moment: Right click tools in your inventory to equip them. You kind of threw off as a side note that you can use tools from inventory, but I was swapping them in and out of the hotbar until about game day 200. I don't know why I assumed they were different from armor and food. You can also right click food and potions straight from chests.

    Have 2 portals at your base, not one.
    Leave one of them always named the same. This is your return portal.
    Rename the second one to where you want to go. This is your exit portal.
    I currently have a variable portal and my Alpha portal at home and I have my Beta - Juliet portals at places I've visited.
    The reason this is useful is so you always have a way back home - eg. If you go through your portal and then create a second portal a way off from there. You won't be able to link to a linked portal.

(Or if you find a site between both biomes with plenty of Sunken Tombs...) You can teleport everything else in and you only need one ship back to 'home base' IF you want to have a set up there too (otherwise its more for building material and stone cutting table.) Don't waste time with bronze armor.
    Each item of Bronze armor starts at 8 and upgrades to 14, for 23 bronze (that's 46 copper and 23 tin!) in all (crafting and upgrades).
    But the Trollskin a step below it starts at 6 and upgrades to 12, and for that 2 points less (6 in all) , you just use troll hides that you'll be finding much more than you need of anyway.
    Also, don't automatically jump to the next tier. If you have your bronze mace and buckler, for example, fully upgraded, then the mace does 53 damage and the shield blocks 55 with 30 Parry force. The Iron Mace does 55 damage, and the banded shield blocks 60 with 40 parry force. And it's actually worse than that--every item has Durability starting at 200 and going up as you upgrade it, so your iron mace and shield will wear out faster, and for Bronze-to-Iron in particular the buckler gives a x2 parry bonus while the banded iron gives x1.5--so when parrying, your basic bronze buckler already matches your basic banded shield; if you upgraded your buckler, the iron is worse.
    Armor is even worse: basically, the fully-upgraded armor of each tier (not counting trollskin) matches the basic armor of the next tier. So if your armor is maxxed out, you don't get anything from the new armor until you can upgrade it... except weight.

    There is some misinformation in the video and in the comments, so allow me to clarify:
    1. The only function of wind is for sailing. There are no scents currently in the game.
    2. Trolls do not have a weak point on their armpits. The only time you can crit is when the enemy is staggered. Staggering occurs when an enemy takes a certain (unknown) amount of damage in a short time or is parried (parrying occurs when you successfully block an attack within 0.25 seconds of raising your shield or blocking weapon).
    3. Structures return all materials when dismantled regardless of the amount of health they had. There was a bug where only some of the resources were returned when picked up too quickly, but this was patched a few days ago.

      The split damage drives me crazy when fighting enemies. If I hit an enemy with a sword and then hit a tree at the end of the swing it shouldn't reduce the damage done to the enemy. I've died a couple times being reckless and taking what i thought would be a final attack only to have the creature survive cause i hit a rock or tree too.

    Portal rename trick I use. Rename. Back away till it turns off and then go back forward to reactivate. I have had no further issues.
    As a backup? I made an extra character and ran him to my main base. He is there just in case I need to rename the portal whenever I create a forward base with a new portal. Also, spare pack mule for transferring new materials.

    • @jvii9761
      @jvii9761 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This should be a none issue with how easy and cheap portals are to make. You can make a new world and rush Black Forest and get 20+ of the cubes in less than an hour. That’s what I did anyway. I’d rather have all my portals up and open. I do keep one around that is named SOS in case I need a port home as well. Lots of neat things you can do. You’re only limiting yourself by sticking to one portal.

      @DWalter.27 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just keep a spare portal at your base named "help" or something. If there's ever an accident, just tune a portal to "help" and your back at your base.

    • @moarsaur
      @moarsaur 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a weird one, but no name counts as a name. So, you could keep an unnamed portal at your base, and every portal you drop will connect to that one until you rename it (if it's not in use). Agreed with J though, in general no need to rename.

    If you build you house with a "hitting rock" inside, you can boost up those weapon skills at night and bypass the sleep cycle. If you are in range of the fire buff, you can get stamina back quickly. Shooting arrows at it also gives you skill points to level up bows more quickly.

  • @MinkieWinkle
    @MinkieWinkle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Top tip worth knowing, if you like bows, and are looking to upgrade one early on. to make the game a little bit easier. Bait a troll that is holding a log, get it to chase you near Birch or oak trees, get it to swing at the tree till it breaks. than again at the fallen tree. and boom, you just unlocked Fine wood bows very early into the game, which then can be used to take down trolls much more easily. Risky trick to do. but the Bow is a great payoff. this can even be done before the first bosses are defeated, which will make them much easier to beat also.
    Also if you need a lot of stone fast, do the same on the stone towers in the black forests. troll smashes the tower, and you just run in and grab the stone

    Best way to kill Trolls: Spear and Shield. If you’re pretty good at parrying, walk up to a troll and wait for it to swing. As soon as it moves its arm forward to attack, block and it will be staggered for 3 seconds which is enough time for about 3 stabs with the spear. I’m using a bronze spear right now which does the job after 3-4 parry attacks.

    If you rename a portal and jump through immediately, it will always go to the old portal name. This is very useful if you want to go to a different location than your portal is bound to, as you can name the portal to where you want to go, wait a few seconds, rename it back, and jump through to go there without changing the portal name. I always keep an open portal in my base just for this.
    It's a life saver for if you go through portal too fast by mistake too since you have somewhere to portal back to.

    If you don't have enough sertling cores for smelter and killn, just build the killn, fill it with wood, go explore or sleep and collect the finished coal in a chest. Repeat this every time you keave your base or sleep through the night and soon you have a lot of coal. Then simply deconstruct the killn and build the smelter instead

    (Another tip for the smelter and kiln) if you don't have another surfing cores to craft both the kiln and the smelter you can deconstruct the kiln with the hammer (scroll wheel button) every time your done making coal and I'm pretty certain you'll get all the materials back and you can make the smelter

    If spawning in wood or stone, don't use the console command to do so; instead use debug mode, turn "No placement cost" to "True" and create a stone/wood pile then destroy it, and repeat as necessary. This way, you won't have to pick up THOUSANDS of pieces, and can keep them in stacks of 50 and won't clutter your area.

    For the not enough surtling core one at 6:20. You could also just build the kiln, make a bunch of coal, and then tear the kiln down and replace it with the smelter. That's how I did it at first. Doesn't waste food which is more valuable than wood imo.
