I don't think that it's wise to stop therapy for the rest of your life. I think that one should see a therapist once a year to catch up on things and to make sure that you're not stuck in your healing journey. I agree with Elora Danan.

I believed my daughter the moment she told me what was happening. She told on my sister, someone you should be able to trust with your child. I called CPS myself and the person went to jail on a 7 year olds testimony. I was so proud of my daughter for speaking out I’m sure it was very hard for her but she wanted to have Justice. My daughter is a beautiful,strong and intelligent adult now. We immediately started therapy for her and I believe it made all the difference.
The important thing for your daughter is one, that she trusted YOU enough to tell you AND most of all that YOU BELIEVED HER AND DID SOMETHING!! This world would be a much healthier and happier place if people BELIEVED victims AND PURSUED charges against the criminals! There would be significant less victims… as the PREDATORS would be prison.
Wow, at 7 she was remarkably strong and I bet as an adult she even more so. Kids have to feel like they can share anything with us no matter what it is and the only way to develop that kind of relationship is to always be honest with them. I cant get over how brave your daughter was at 7 but its obvious she trusted you completely.
I can guarantee your daughter will always remember you believing her and taking action right away. She will always remember and be thankful. My mother made a lot of mistakes, but that was one she did not make, and as an adult, I am still grateful. When I told my mom what was happening she believed me right away and took action calling the police and having the person removed from the house by the police that night. Unfortunately so many parents don't or they protect the abuser because of who they are to them. Be it a family member or significant other. Making them just as bad if not worse that the abuser.

The fact that you got up and faced that monster in court to tell the jury what he did to you, and then you continued to fight and you still go every two years to face the parole board and tell your heartbreaking story shows your amazing strength. It breaks my heart to know how you were failed by those who were supposed to help and protect you. I hope that you have been able to get the help that you need and deserve. As a SURVIVOR of rape/molestation on a daily basis....from the ages of 13-18 by my grandmother's husband, while living in their home (after the passing of my mother), this hearing literally touched my soul.

I do not speak to paternal family mbrs to this day (at 41yrs old) because they call me a liar or told me to let it go.
I told the person I thought was supposed to protect me, my grandmother, but all she did was beat me, call me a whore daily, and tell people I was coming on to him....trying to steal her husband.
Unfortunately, by the time I told law enforcement, the statue of limitations had expired.
But I will never be silenced and will continue to speak my truth!

I too was molested from age 2 til 12 years old. By my grandmother's drunk boyfriend, I never got justice and my mother didn't believe me or my sister and that truly hurt the most and to this day I have panic attacks and severe depression... my life was forever changed and I still wonder what it's like to have a normal childhood without the sexual abuse and the physical abuse from my father. You are not alone!

This hurts my soul so bad because I was victimized by the junior pastor of our church at 12 and was pregnant at 13. Everyone in the church called me a liar even though blood test proved he's the father. Still to this day I trust nobody because of what happened to me.

@@KittyKittyBangBang249 The research shows that the 90% of sex offenders are situational offenders, meaning they’ve usually never committed a crime before, sexual or otherwise, and see an opportunity and take it. The other 10% are fixated offenders, the ones who abuse multiple victims and prefer children to adults sexually. Fixated offenders are far, far more dangerous than situational offenders, but since so many are situational offenders that’s why they get plea deals.
No one pretends to be a victim of this kind of abuse. It tears families apart, involves law enforcement and maybe child protective services. As a victim, I know this all too well.
I hate to tell you this but that's not true at all and there have been dozens if not hundreds of cases of children misrepresenting reality and accusing people who did nothing so everything needs to be investigated thoroughly to make sure that everything is legit! Believe all women is BULLSHIT and so is believe all children because they can be coached/coerced and threatened to say untrue things!!

These cases always hit home for me…my step father got 6 months in jail and my little sisters (his children) still believe him. They will get out one day but some of us never get out of the prison of our innocence being taken away. This crime affects every part of the victims life for a lifetime. I think they should get life sentences.

My daughters were molested by their dad and the pain he caused them still effects them. Everyone turned against me. They thought I made it up to get a divorce but idc. I will take the blame if it takes some of the pain away from my daughters.

When he chuckled to himself when the victim said "he's been a criminal for 31 years" just re-enforces what a joke he thinks what he did is. The family denial is very sad. I had second hand anger at them and it's not anyone I know but you couldn't listen to that poor woman speak about her experience and walk away and think "she lying". If this is how the family members act years later I can’t even imagine how the victim felt after she came out and told her story. For a family to act this way,
Denying what took place, basically accusing the victim of lying with their support of the offender, I would think this withholding of love and support would have done almost more damage than the molestation itself. To call someone telling the truth a liar is the worst kind of withholding

My older cousin molested me, and my family kept it a secret. I keep asking my mom, "Why didn't he go to jail?" and she said, "He went to some classes." CLASSES!! I was only 6 yrs old, and he was 19! He also molested 2 of my other cousins. There is nothing I can do now. Because it's been too long and I have no proof. I am 38 now, and I think it's so messed up that my grandparents, my aunts and uncles, my parents, and even my older brother didn't care enough to get him arrested. I just dont get it.

Had a similar case here. The girl at 18, got her dad to admit it over a recorded phone call that our cop was on. His family and friends attacked her. Her mom and two sisters woke up and took her side and apologized to her, but the rest of them, to this day, still don't believe her because "Joe is such a good guy. "

I hope he never walks free.. hopefully he’ll take his last breath behind bars so he can’t hurt another child and ruin their theirs. I commend the victim for being so strong and fighting for justice even after her family turned on her.
The fact that this was a family crime and the majority of the family is sitting in support of his release really breaks my heart. She is a survivor, I’m glad she said no to the ridiculous plea deals and was willing to forgo so much in order to expose how these cases are handled. The strength she continues to display telling her story to anyone who will listen is truly admirable and has given other survivors the courage to stand up and speak their truth.
"Family crime" is a great way to describe this. The family supporting him is complicit in the abuse. It's tragic and sad for the victim.
How his wife stayed with him after he was accused of this horrific crime is just despicable! They also said they have a family member that was raped by someone and sentenced to 40 years so if anything they should understand the victim. I don’t give a damn if that was my husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle etc Im still not standing by this type of behavior!
Abusers have a victim type that they go after. But I think the damage the family has done is the worst thing for a survivor. The survivor is such a brave and beautiful person.
The family did almost as much damage as the offender. I hope one day they can be honest with themselves and see what they did by not supporting the victim.
This baby was raped and repeatedly told that no one would believe her. He not only physically abused her but he mentally tortured her!!! Can you imagine how this woman feels knowing that her family is indifferent to her pain and that they're believing the monster that violated her??? The way that family behaved literally turned my stomach! I am ashamed FOR THEM! Just because THEY didn't have to endure the monster didn't mean the monster doesn't exist!!! That step-daughter needs to be grateful to this victim because that's probably what is saving one of her 2 children!! This beast will abuse again. His dark deeds are still sheltered inside his family and until THEY see or feel the pain for themselves they will NEVER believe the monster that TRULY exists!!!

The more devious predators intentionally choose one victim in order to invalidate that victim. That is part of the grooming process.

The victim lost her innocence AND her family because they choose to believe a rapist. I cringed when I heard the stepdaughter took her little one to visit him! Those adult females will absolutely be complicit if he's ever left alone with any of the precious littles they clearly refuse to protect. God bless Mandy. She is a true survivor.
Three things stood out to me: First, that Mr. Johnson actually dances up to the "I dried her off" admission. This is a common act of the guilty: they offer up something they MIGHT have done that MIGHT have been misinterpreted. They feel this makes them seem more beleivable than out-and-out denial. But in truth, the innocent say "I never did anything like that. I would never do anything like that". Second, the supporter making the comment about another family member being rap-ed. She was so strong in her support of that victim, and the justice in her attacker being sentenced to decades of prison time. It troubled me that she so strongly supported her family member, but refused to consider Mr. Johnson's victim. Third-- and just an observation.... Did anyone else find it telling that Mr. Johnson's new wife and victim are about the same age? The parole board's members were exactly right in encouraging Mr. Johnson to be honest with his family and himself.

Watching his family listening to the victim was heartbreaking. They look so smug and disinterested. That person needs to stay in prison for life.
I’m going through this NOW as my brother was recently found guilty of SA and is serving a life sentence. It’s difficult to accept especially when he says he’s innocent! Watching these cases help me process what I’m going through and have compassion for the victim!

It is challenging to navigate. My brother was convicted I tried to have some sort of relationship without involving my kids. Someone was inappropriate with my kids and I cut my brother off. I'm at peace. You do what is best for you.
Wanted to add that I also posted about being notified by the parole board on behalf of my sister who was murdered in 1972! Didn’t want folks to think I’m trolling!

I didn't cry as I watched this video...I sobbed through the entire thing. This was my own life playing out before my very eyes. My stepdad, who's name was also Gerald, was exactly like this guy. Like his family, my family and the community refused to believe that a nice, hard-working man, who had never been arrested could possibly r8pe his own 8 yr old stepdaughter. His cousin was married to the mayor of my home town, so it was swept under the rug. As for my mother, she did believe it, but blamed me, the 8 yr old. I understand when Mandy said that she will never get parole. Those of us who have been SA never get parole, an early release, good time, clemency or a pardon. We serve our time until we take our last breath. So, to you Gerald...Joseph...Johnson stfu and do your time. 17 yrs is nothing compared to the sentence that you gave Mandy.

Perhaps the family members in favor of his release should join their sex offender relative in prison due to not caring about what happened. That must be a difficult environment for the victim.
My granddaughter was molested by her step father at the age of 6. She is now 13 and was finally able to tell someone. He is now awaiting trial in prison with a $500,000 cash bond. No mercy

This family is disturbing, they said everything you shouldn’t say when one wants a family member released from prison. They say that will make sure he doesn’t reoffend, but where were they for the years a child was molested? Their facial expressions are troubling. The woman with the dark hair on the left has personably seen firsthand seen what happens if someone comes forward with abuse allegations, perhaps she knows more than she’s said. This man should at least stay in a halfway house when released. Going home to this family who have completely enabled this offender would be a disaster

I think Ms. Wise nailed it. He doesn't want to be honest with his family/support network because he doesn't want to risk losing their support. Plus, it sounds like he was well though of in the community so he is likely struggling with letting go of his own public image. A true chameleon....which is exactly what a predator is.

He had zero remorse. Honesty could have taken him a long way. Arms crossed, hands folded he wasn’t open to anything except finding out if he was going home. He doesn’t deserve freedom until he free’s himself of all of his lies & betrayal.
My stepfather admitted to EVERYTHING in my statement that I told POLICE he did from my age of 11 till 15 when I said NO and was kicked out of my home. He served 3 months in jail. He didn’t matter. It’s ALMOST WORSE because lack of punishment & lack of acknowledgment by EVERYONE has EMPOWERED HIM which hurts me. He married my mother during the 3 years he abused me & they are still together -46years. I’m alone 😔😓
This case has me LIVID!! The only thing I could think about when the victim was speaking is all those people in support of him there should be so ashamed of themselves!! I really really hope the communities around them all see this and what they’re doing to this victim. I just have one question, why did they fight so hard for their family member who was r@ped and helped her perpetrator get 40 years but when it’s their husband/dad/grandfather they fight to get him out after only 8 years??? I cannot imagine taking my 3 year old to visit a r@pist in prison no matter who he is! Those kids need to be protected immediately. First tried to give him 4 years house arrest?? I really think money had a lot to do with that considering he bonded out on a 250k bond 3 days after arrest. I wish he woulda got the 40 years!!
