  • Don't be afraid to process your venison at home. You have all the control over what you eat when you process it yourself. It's not hard but there is a secret to keeping your venison from tasting gamey. We typically can a large portion of the venison we get because it's shelf stable and great for off grid storage. We also grind some into burger. It's an hour well spent learning how to do it yourself.

Thank you so much for this. It was explained really well. We just moved off grid about 4 months ago and I really want to start processing our own deer. The butcher saved me a huge bag for canning and I can't wait to do that next week with mine. And next year my little dog is going to love us when I make her a special food like you do for your cats. Great way to use it all! I first saw you on Brookes channel and I'm so happy to see you have your own. Definitely following along. Have a good day.

Thank you so much! My cats love that venison. It does take some patience to learn how to process your own deer but keep at it. It’s so worth it. Just start with a good quality knife. Trust me, I speak from experience. 😀

I like to process my own deer and elk also. I really learned a lot from you - both in the meticulous way you cut up your meat and the canning. As a result, I’ll be doing more canning. New subscriber. Thanks, from Hells Canyon, Frank.

Barb and Dan - thanks so much. I am from the thumb, but currently living in Illinois. Getting near retirement and wanting to get back to Michigan and live off grid. I miss it so much. I have been trying to get information from several townships both in the UP and LP with little to no help. I am finding that the regulations, post covid are insane for any sort of off grid living. Was wondering if you would be so kind as to discuss how you did everything via email or phone. I will also be near Mio for Thanksgiving if you care to discuss over coffee. I would really appreciate you helping me reach my dream. The last thing I want to do is put the money out there and have the man come around. Thanks.
