I started doing that this year and i've improved so much, too many producers use the "fill every 2 steps" option for hi-hats and call it a day lol, your idea doesn't just work with drums either, sometimes playing one of the sounds i write MIDI for over and over and hearing something that'd sound good over it without it already being there, such as playing some Piano loop and thinking "damn this needs some choir aahs or something"

*"Once You finished making the beat, you have to produce the record" - Dr. Dre* That's the real definition of a Record Producer. Pharrell Williams, Rodney Jerkins etc does a lot more than just program beats. They guide and direct the session, collaborate with writers, musicians and coach thr Artist behind the board.

I listened to that album nonstop to the point where people would get tired of me driving them to school 'cause it was damn near all I played (next to Jamiroquai albums). I tried dressing like him in high school and everything, lol. I remember telling everyone I could about Pharrell and The Neptunes for YEARS (especially after listening to N.E.R.D. and his In My Mind album) but it feels like he didn't become well-known, mainstream, or a household name until his track Happy from Despicable Me came out as well as Blurred Lines with T.I. and Robin Thicke. People knew him before because of Grindin', Frontin', and Drop It Like It's Hot (among others) but the man has been a musical genius and inspiration for YEARS.

No, not true. There are plu-ins, AutoTheory 4 for example that allow you to create compositions on piano without knowing music theory. If you have "the ear" where you can tell what sounds good and what doesn't, modern technology can take care of the rest. Digital music creation has completely changed the game. I play guitar but I produce music without any guitar in it. So many options out there.

or buy ready made samples (including MIDI) and claim to be the creator! Don't worry, tons of so called "great producers" do it!

yeah study some bach, jazz, blues scales.. easy ones in keys with natural note beginings.. the more work you put in.. the better you will be than these non musician sampler pack plug in morons who all bite shit.. im a classical jazz rock and funk guitarist.. and i have to figure out what im playin on keys.. but my theory,, in guitar? helps me play real piano notes and scales and chords,, for recording hiphop or dance music whatever.. and recording? you only have to do it once recorded.. not like a real live musician.. and one hand one part using both hands at a time.. so its actually really easy.. and when you practice? it will inspire new music.. thats how it works
