This is the best video I have seen about Skellig. Just beautiful!

Wonderful video. I was fortunate to visit Skellig Michael many years ago. I would like to add that this Island is the tip of the 'Sword of St Michael', a geographical alignment of seven sites dedicated to St Michael, all on prominent hill tops.

      What are the other sites?

The following is from the wikipedia article on "St Michael's Line" which is the same thing.
"Skellig Michael, St Michael's Mount, Mont Saint-Michel, the Sacra di San Michele, San Michele Arcangelo, the Sanctuary of Monte Sant'Angelo, the Panormitis Monastery of the Archangel Michael, and Stella Maris Monastery"

Very informative and beautiful. Will be visiting here in May, 2024. Looking forward to climbing the 600 steps on Skellig Michael to visit the monastery. Thank you for all the historic info on the monks.

Enjoyed your video. I visited the Island a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, the sea was not calm enough for us to land. It was still a great experience.

I’m reading How the Irish Saved Civilization by Thomas Cahill - it’s going to take me a while because I want to investigate everything he mentions like Skellig Michael. How super interesting, thank you for this video

At an advanced stage of self realisation the notion of a separated individual is deconstructed until universal being is what remains. In all religions the need for isolation and silence is sought for this.

It wasn't a wild spirit that encouraged isolation. At an advanced stage in the mystical life of Yogis or Christian monks the need to deepen inner silence through continuos undisturbed meditation is required.

The Irish placenames in the transcription are unfortunately impossible to decipher. It would be very helpful if you could provide them. Last week I was in Piedmont in Northern Italy, where I visited another important monastic site high up on a mountain peak called la Sacra di San Michele. They claim that it was the first monastic site to take the name of Saint Michael and from then on it became customary to name such sites in the same way. They also claim they are all aligned on a straight line going from Skellig Michael, through Saint Michael's Mount, le Mont Saint Michel and of course la Sacra San Michele to Jerusalem. It was considered to be an early pilgrim road, though I'm not at all sure how they can prove it, but there it is. I have also visited a chapel dedicated to Saint Michael perched high on a steep volcanic rock formation at le Puy en Velay in France, but I don't think it is aligned with the other sites.
