There's no way that you can convince me that this wasn't started by some guys who were embarrassed about their bald spots, and decided to make the bald spot a fashion trend that everyone else had to follow. I believe the reason the celtic form was different was because British Christianity became distant from Rome after the legions left Britain in the 5th century, leaving Britian isolated and invaded by varying tribes.
