Roxette were the band, the lead singer was Marie Fredriksson, Per Gessle the main guitarist wrote arranged most of their songs. Marie passed away in 2019 to a brain tumour, RIP Marie. You are so right, she'll be forever young to all us fans.
Mostly true, Marie wasn't the lead singer through all their albums, they shared vocals and Per had several leads as well "Joyride" and "The Look" to name a few.
R I.P Marie Fredriksson u truly was a special singer i cant mention how many times her songs has saved me and i stil listen to her here pn utube especially when she sings her own songs in Swedish and before Roxette ❤❤
Only a person who has been living in a cave all his life hasn't heard this song. It's was a huge worldwide hit, and they still play it on the radio all the time.
I don't know about now cause things have changed with streaming but Roxette used to be #2 music export from Sweden only behind ABBA. They were absolutely huge!
I was lucky to see them in concert here in Australia - they were fantastic......and Marie's vocals were as good as the studio. I'd check out "Fading Like a Flower" and "Do You Get Excited"
God I miss the early 90s - this song reminds me of it so much. Also, look at the crowd in the video - notice something - not a single phone LOL the good old days
I remember when the song The Look came out. Went straight out and bought the album on tape and wore it out. Not a bad song on the album. So sad to hear she died a few years ago. A wonderful talent and such a voice!
My favorite pop band of all time, i dont know why they always had those nostalgia sounds that always make you feel good when youre feeling bad, hard to explain. And they sold quite some records, they just don't top ABBA as the best selling swedish group , cause its ABBA :P
It´s from -88, Per Gessle the frontman with the black Telecaster is the main song writer. One of swedens most known song writers and a former teenage idol as the front man of Gyllene Tider. Marie had one of the best voices ever coming out of Sweden.
Marie Fredriksson was a star in Sweden before she and Per Gessle formed Roxette in the 80's and broke big internationally w/ the album 'Look sharp!' around 1989... When Roxette was touring on the album 'Joyride' in 1991, she met her husband whom she married privately in 1994 and had 2 children... In 2002, Marie collapsed and was hospitalized... She was diagnosed w/ a brain tumor and needed cancer treatments which put her career on hold for years. After recording some solo records, Marie and Per reunited as Roxette and started recording and touring again in 2009... their final album 'Good karma' was released in 2016 and Marie was advised by doctors to cease touring and performing as her health deteriorated from the cancer returning... Marie Fredriksson passed away in 2019 at age 61 (R.I.P)
As a Swede I have to say, walking barefoot is not that unusual. When I grew up I used to walk barefoot all summer long, in the woods, in the streets around our house and of course inside our house. I still take my socks off as soon as I step into my house. Next Roxette song should be It must have been love. ❤
Im a 59 yo country kid and I still go barefoot as much as possible..Once you get them a lil tough theres nothing like feeling whats under your feet...Also Ronnie Van Zandt always was barefooted on stage cause he liked the feeling on the stage as they played...Awesome song
Not Swedish, but raised by Sweeds, and i also grew up going barefoot as often and much as i possibly could…still prefer to barefoot over wearing shoes, lol good to know that others are the same.😂🎶❤️✌🏻
Roxette formed in Sweden yes back in the late 70s. The lead singer Marie Fredriksson passed away in 2019 age 61 of cancer, having survived for over 15 years since since her brain tumour was diagnosed.
You should listen to her songs (the look), (dangerous) (fading like a flower) and my favorite ( joyride) they were amazing the short time in the very late 80s 88/89- 96 for the most part.
None of those songs were hers per say. They are Roxette songs (as the group) written mainly by Per Gessle. Marie wrote her own songs in Swedish and recorded those as a solo artist.
This is my fav with Roxette. I was introduced to them very early in life, when my dad had done a interview with them for his radioshow & brought home their tape. I basically grew up with Roxette. Now both Marie & my dad is gone. RIP
Marie Fredericksson had a remarkable voice and great stage presents.Per Gressle was the main songwriter and guitarist.Sadly Marie passed away from a brain tumour the legacy of great music lives on .
There is an interesting passing of the torch between great female leads from Swedish bands. Abba kills it through the 70's into the early 80's and then passed the torch on to Roxette who killed the late 80's then passed it to Ace of Base to handle the early 90's. Love all three of them
To add to your chain: Ace of Base was produced at Cheiron Studios in Stockholm where the recently hired Max Martin was assigned a roll in the team producing The Sign. (For those who do not know who he is, please google you will not be disapointed)
I love them. They had plenty of talent and song. I'll recommend one of them: "Things will never be the same" Per said that phrase whe she passed away...
I saw her in concert pre Roxette, when she was a solo artist - and she sounded great. No diffference from the album... I love her tone. You can hear immediately that it's her.
Hello Black Pegasus. Roxette were the first gig we attended with my daughter, 5 at that time, 22 now. It was in Manchester. Swedish princess, as you called her, just recovered from stroke and bad bath fall. She couldn't read but she was blasting new music alongside all hits. Magic. It was proper magic. It must have been love 💞
Hi, I hope your daughter can remember a little of it! It wasn't a stroke. She collapsed in the bathroom in 2002 and hit her head. At the hospital they discovered a brain tumour. It was a mixture of that and the subsequent treatments that caused her such huge health issues and it's what eventually took her in 2019. 😢😢😢
Love Roxette. The guitarist sings a lot of their songs as well and they do a lot of duet stuff. The 2 you've done were probably their biggest hits. Check out something like "The Look" to see how they got rolling. Lot's of good stuff from them if you do more.
Your comment about whether she was barefoot because she was " grounding" surprised me & made me giggle. Not everyone knows about grounding (aka Earthing). Roxette was a great band. Loved so many of their songs, this one included. So sad, we lost Marie to cancer. She was amazing. A couple of other songs to chk out would be "Joyride" and "(She's Got) The Look." Enjoyed your reaction. That Basic Instinct reference, though. Lol.
the main guitarist in the band is also a singer and he's one of the most famous singer/songwriters in sweden. marie(lead singer) has passed away unfortunately.
This song was in the video jukebox in the snackbar at my Army Advanced Individial Training and the few times we were allowed to go we played the crap out of it she is so hot. RIP Marie
The whole band is Swedish, not just her, hahaha, I remember these videos during my puberty times and she was one of the ones that got me going! Sadly she died in 2019 from what I believe a brain tumor😥Keep rockin' Black P! 40!
They were fantastic live. The castle ruin they are performing in (real concert) is on a Swedish island. Marie's solo material is amazing but it was actually Per Gessle who was the main songwriter for Roxette (the guitarist who was at the front of the stage with Marie at the end). Marie fell ill with a brain tumour in 2002 which caused her many health issues. She died in 2019.😢 This song went to No 1 on the US Billboard. So did The Look, It Must Have Been Love and Joyride. They have sooo more many more great songs you can react to though.
Black Pegasus, I love your reactions. To answer a few of your questions; this is an 80's song. The Swedish Band Roxette was formed by Per Gessle (guitar and vocals) and Marie Fredriksson (vocals). Per Gessle had previously seen success in Sweden with the band Gyllene Tider (Golden (as in the best of) Tider (times) and Marie Fredriksson had success as a singer/songwriter. Growing up in the 80's in Sweden I didn't necessarily love their music but I did love Marie's looks... Unfortunately Marie Fredriksson passed away in 2019. There are plans to revive Roxette with another lead vocalist, Lena Philipsson.
She had a beautiful voice and a beautiful soul. RIP Marie
RIP Marie. We miss you.

Yes she is greatly missed

I think The Look was their first video and Joyride was their Beatles tribute song.
Fading Like a Flower is a must!! ♥
I’ve always loved The Look that Per sings lead on. ❤
She was an absolutely stunning, super talent lady. Gutted she’s not here any more ❤
RIP Marie. She is stunning, indeed. Great voice. Fantastic song, and video.

I gotta say her back up singer is also fantastic. While all the other performers had big hair, she killed it with her short hair style.
Mia Lindgren was the backing vocalist then. Yes, she did great.
Yes!!! They have so many good songs! Joyride, The Look, & Dangerous are a few other bangers worth checking out!
