..Sadly Marie Fredriksson died on 9 December 2019, at the age of 61, following a long battle with a brain tumor. In her honor, I request you do "It Must Have Been Love"...please...Thank You for this one...
Such a powerful song! And her vocals just rip at your heart! Absolutely amazing song!❤👍 "It Must Have Been Love" was my anthem when my husband left in '96. It was so cathartic belting out the song along with Marie.✌
Roxette was such a great duo when it was Per and Marie. Per was the primary song writer and was so heart broken when Marie died in December of 2019. A long battle with cancer.
As an Proud Swede, This band is one of my favorite Swedish groups from the 80 & 90:s...Marie Fredriksson R.I.P. Never Forgotten...other songs are...Joyride, The Look & It Must Been Love
The part at 6.50 Where she goes to her knees with perle and comes up bealting out highs is truly mesmerizing incredible body arms head and hand gestures gave her the best stage presence of any artist in my opinion SENSATIONAL MASTERPIECE
Roxette carried the Swedish pop torch left behind when ABBA went on hiatus in the 80s. Their album "Joyride" is pure pop perfection from start to finish.
Highly underrated. Everyone cites hair metal bands when talking about the late '80s/early '90s power ballad era, but arguably, Roxette had three of the top 10: this song, "It Must Have Been Love," and "Fading Like a Flower."
there were power ballads before metal, Nights in White Satin is an example, they only became a metal thing because the record companies knew it was a sure fire way to sell more albums
Marie has a great voice but speaking of hair metal bands most of Roxette's hits were ripoffs of Heart's 80's power ballads. The biggest difference is Roxette didn't have Ann Wilson and Roxette couldn't back up the ballads with actual rock music. For every "Alone" they released Heart had a "Barracuda" or "If Looks Could Kill" but Roxette was just pop ear candy.
Yeah I've burnt my fingers few times. As for recording.....they don't experience the music....but then again music ain't like it used to be. Remember you'd get kicked out if you had a camera 😓
I should have scrolled before I said the same thing LOL I also mentioned that we all usually had lighters handy - for those 'party supplies' at concerts ;)
I was a child when"joyride" came out....we listened to it daya and days...now I am 40 and still love the, and it brings the nostalgic too... for me the best!
One of my favorite female vocalists. Marie Fredriksson was like an angel at times. She can sing at all range levels. Wow. Roxette was one of my favorite groups.
Roxette was Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle. Both wrote, sang, played guitar and piano, and produced their albums. They didn't have a lot of hits in the U.S., but were huge around the rest of the world, especially their native Sweden. As others have mentioned, Marie lost her battle with cancer in 2019. You should definitely hear "Dangerous", "The Look" and "It Must Have Been Love".
RIP Gun-Marie Fredriksson, miss her talent enormously. She was a one of a kind, and died way too young. Try It must have been love (used in the movie pretty woman I think)
Roxette (pronounced "roxet") is a Swedish pop-rockband whose leaders werePer Gessle (lyricist and musicwriter, guitar, vocals, harmonica) andMarie Fredriksson (1958-2019) (vocals, piano). Like many other Swedish musicians, they performed their songs in English. The very name "Roxette" comes from the title of a song by the band Dr. Feelgood[1][2]. The band's popularity peaked in the mid-1990s. During their thirty-year career, the band played 557 concerts and sold over 75 million copies of their albums.
The song that made me a Roxette fan for life! It was devastating when Marie Fredriksson lost her battle with cancer...heaven took an angel from us that day. Glad you reacted and liked it, Rob Squad.
The first time I saw one of their videos I about freaked out. Back in 84 I on/off dated a woman that could have passed as her exact double. Her name was Michelle. Don't think she could sing like her, but she definitely could hit those high notes when she wanted to. Flashbacks of ridin double on the Harley, club hoppin, late night beach parties, watchin the sun rise over the Keys. Thank You
Yes lighters were a thing! For slow heartfelt, romantic songs the audience would put ‘lighters in the air’ and sway with the music. Nowadays the audience uses their phones! ♥️♥️
Swedish pop perfection! Roxette had hit after hit fantastic hooks to their songs, RIP Maria what a legacy of music you have left us with, check out Fading Like A Flower, The Look, Joyride, love Silver Blue too album track. Great reviews as ever from you both really enjoy them!
I always loved Roxette’s Crash, Boom, Bang, all one title there. “I Wish I Could Fly”, Joyride, Dangerous, Fading Like a Flower, they had so many big songs! It broke my heart when I heard that Marie Fredriksson had lost her battle with cancer! R.I.P. Marie!
Yes, holding lighters was a thing back in the day. Especially in slow emotional songs. It let the band and everyone around you know you were touched in your feels.
Loved Roxette! Another beautiful song by them with her on vocals "Fading Like a Flower". "It must had been Love" from the Pretty Woman movie soundtrack. And another of their biggest hits was "She's go the Look". I like when he sings too!
I love how you guys really listen to the music and depth of the words in each song you review. ❤️ I was lucky enough to see Roxette twice in concert in Australia. The first is when I was 11 and the second in my early 30s. Marie had such an angelic voice and when she sat down at the grand piano and sang without any other accompaniment, you could hear a pin drop in the stadium. The music and arrangements still stand the test of time.
To be honest, I think the only one who comes close to both the feels and the light rasp in her voice is a Japanese singer by the name of Aimer. It's been awhile since I listened to anything new from her, but her Noir album was on repeat in my car for over a year after listening to it the first time.
Thanks for a great reaction! I really like it 👍. Roxette was a very succesful swedish pop/rock duo with Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle (the guitarist beside Marie). Both were succesful artists in Sweden before they teamed up together in the mid 80's and created Roxette. They had four No 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. "Listen to your heart" reached No 1 in nov 1989. The other three No 1 songs are: "The Look" Aug 1989, "It must have been love" june 1990 (which also is a soundtrack in the movie "Pretty woman" with Richard Gere and Julia Roberts). "Joyride" in may 1991. And they had several more hits in the Hot 100. So yes, they were quite successful with about 80 million albums sold worldwide. Sadly, Marie passed away in dec 2019 after a 17 year long battle against brain cancer, only 61 years old, leaving a husband and two children behind. Marie is an ikon in Sweden and she is dearly missed by many, many fans in Sweden and worldwide. Marie was an amazing vocalist and her emotional singing gives me goosebumbs every time 🧡
Roxette was (is still) very popular here in europe. They had two or three great albums end of the 80s / begin of the 90S with a lot of single hits. "Joyride", "The Look", "It Must Have Been Love", "Dressed For Succsess", "Fadeing Like A Flower"...... Their last years as an active music duo were heartbreaking. Marie, this wonderful woman, sat on a high bar chair at her last concerts on the stage because she had problems with her sense of balance. And yet she still radiated such positive energy to the last row of the audience. R.I.P. Marie
Growing up I never thought this woman was attractive but now that I'm almost 45 years old and she is now gone I feel like part of my childhood went with her. She is not only attractive, she is beautiful.
Whooo Female Friday...Great song, love her voice R.I.P. Marie Fredriksson...They were great duo in the 80's....Thank you guys, Great reaction, Much love, Peace
Rest in peace, Marie. I love her voice and Roxette, for me, were very under-rated - they had great songs. It Must Have Been Love is their biggest hit but Spending My Time is my favourite. Another great Swedish band. Also try The Cardigans, My Favourite Game - for more Swedish female gems.
You guys should react to "Fading Like a Flower", "Spending My Time" and "Things Will Never Be The Same" You'd probably like them. Roxette were HUGE in the late 80's, 90's and through the early 00's.
Melissa Etheridge: "Like The Way I Do" the official video and the song are amazing, but if you want to see Melissa in all her glory... the LIVE at Pink Pop '94 performance of "Like The Way I Do" is INSANE!!! Either way, it's a phenomenal song and she is another incredible female artist with MANY hits in her catalogue!! gonna watch this reaction now.... ;) ;)
Totally agree, when I firrst heard her sing, I thought "Who peed in her cornflakes?" and then what did this GUY do? then later I found that the lyrics could apply to men OR women :) Great talent!
These were masive. Marie had a great voice. They sang in Pretty Woman It must have been love. Monster hit. There is The Look and Joyride and Spending my time and Fading like a Flower. Marie the singer died last year of a Brain Tumour. Such a loss to singing. Had been poorly for a while. Loved these. Mike D uk
Rewatched this reaction after your latest on It Must Have Been Love. What a stunner. I remember being 10 when this was on radio and MTV. I have not seen many short haired ladies then. I wanted to be just like her. What a beautiful woman with a powerful voice!
I'm a Roxette junkie! They are all over my Spotify, one of my favorite pairs ever! Joyride and Fading Like a Flower are my all time fave songs, besides this one :)
I discovered them through the film pretty woman.the song it must have been love like many others and played their album on cassette on my personal stereo(Walkman) on repeat.Rip Marie fredriksson she passed in 2019 after having cancer for 17yrs.
"Must have been Love" is another classic Roxette song... BTW..A True story- Swedish exchange student brings a music tape and get it played in an American Radio Show..The rest is music history !! Sadly, at the start of the Pandemic I think almost 80-90% of the Swedish population watched the tribute TV-concert for Marie.. and only one year later, Pelle Alsing the drummer, also passed away.. He was a very very kind guy, I used to meet him at my local cafe here in Stockholm, Sweden.. R.I.P. Pelle , R.I.P. Marie.. Thank you for the great music !!
Now that you got the ballad out of the way, it’s time to dive deep into an A+ group! Roxette songs to react to: “How Do you Do”, “Joyride”, “Dressed for Success.” I know the word is overused, but underrated and under appreciated truly applies to these great musicians. Sadly, Marie lost her battle with brain cancer just a couple years ago. RIP.
A few 80’s bands with female vocalists. Altered Images, Missing Persons, ‘Til Tuesday, Book of Love, Sugar Cubes, Siouxie and the Banshees, Propaganda, Romeo Void, The Waitresses
Roberta Flack~ "Killing Me Softly" Dusty Springfield ~ "Son Of a Preacher Man" The Wreckers ~ "Leave The Pieces" Leann Rimes ~ "Nothin Better To Do" En Vogue ~ "Giving Him Something He Can Feel"
Terrific live act, I saw them in Australia in 2012 and I’m from the uk 🇬🇧 so truly devoted. Marie is amazing and per also does lead vocals, so nice to hear their different styles depending on type of song. They had 4 US number ones
Also, Linda Ronstadt. There is nothing she can't sing, from "You're No Good" to Gilbert and Sullivan! (Gilbert and Sullivan is operetta, sort of like opera, but more light-hearted)
Marie Fredriksson was the main vocalist, and she was one of a kind. May she Rest In Peace. 😔 I saw them live with my bro in 2012 and it was amazing! Some other songs to check out: -“It Must Have Been Love” (you might know this one because it was not only in the movie “Pretty Woman,” but also because it’s like…their biggest hit ever!) -“The Look” -“Joyride.” -“Fading Like A Flower” -“Dressed For Success.”
I remember at my few first conserts, there were lighters all over the place. Amazing! Now there are cell phones. Amazing song, RIP Marie. I love "Spending My Time" as well.
Back then when you could smoke indoors and when safety standards were lax, you could hold lighters up inside stadiums during epic rock ballads; these days we can just hold up our cellphones! I've seen it :D Anyway, my favorite Roxette song is "It Must Have Been Love," it always gets me in the heart.
..Sadly Marie Fredriksson died on 9 December 2019, at the age of 61, following a long battle with a brain tumor.
Or the song Per wrote after Maries death: "Just around the corner".
RIP!
Yes. It Must Have Been Love is a definite must reaction.
Absolutely!
I cried so hard when I found she passed. She really had an Angelic Voice. 💜
Roxette was such a great duo when it was Per and Marie. Per was the primary song writer and was so heart broken when Marie died in December of 2019. A long battle with cancer.
She died of brain cancer.
What?! Oh no, what a terrible loss. I can't believe I didn't hear about that.
Per owns a hotel in his hometown. In the lobby he has a big photo of Marie.
@@8kexchoklad8 That is so beautiful
He is not the only one who was sad when she passed. She was F’ing good.
She was one of the best female singers
As an Proud Swede, This band is one of my favorite Swedish groups from the 80 & 90:s...Marie Fredriksson R.I.P. Never Forgotten...other songs are...Joyride, The Look & It Must Been Love
Marie Fredriksson .. absolutely one of my favorite artists….
I hope alot of younger people discover her music
RIP Marie Fredriksson, Beautiful Angelic Vocals :/.
The part at 6.50 Where she goes to her knees with perle and comes up bealting out highs is truly mesmerizing incredible body arms head and hand gestures gave her the best stage presence of any artist in my opinion
SENSATIONAL MASTERPIECE
Anne and Nancy Wilson just entered chat....
“Holding lighters🤔” yes, it was a thing! You guys are too cute!! Before cell phones, we held up lighters 😂
And burned our thumb. 🤕
Held up lighters and actually enjoyed the show instead of snapping selfies and recording the show.
iPhone users still do, because the battery dies after 10 minutes.
yup...strange people these days dont know this...
Yes, som hair lit up as well.
Another awesome Swedish group! RIP Marie! Always give me chills!
For a more banger type song by them try out She's Got The Look. Yeah, her voice is special. Strong and pure.
I totally agree
Agree
I always thought she sounded like Hearts Ann Wilson!
@@marilynk30 this song kind of has an 80s Heart sound to it. I actually like It must Have Been Love better than this one.
Oh yeah, that one was great.
Roxette carried the Swedish pop torch left behind when ABBA went on hiatus in the 80s. Their album "Joyride" is pure pop perfection from start to finish.
Yes, If we only count internationaly atleast, Roxette was the only big band we had. Europe where also big, but that aint pop, so..
Highly underrated. Everyone cites hair metal bands when talking about the late '80s/early '90s power ballad era, but arguably, Roxette had three of the top 10: this song, "It Must Have Been Love," and "Fading Like a Flower."
Watercolors in the rain another good one
there were power ballads before metal, Nights in White Satin is an example, they only became a metal thing because the record companies knew it was a sure fire way to sell more albums
Why you saay underrated? In the 90 they were really really famous

She was the mini dress queen. Lol Watch that other video everybody is saying to watch. "It must have been love". Great song. Great video.
Yes, lighters were a big thing at concerts during big ballads. These days cell phone flashlights are used, but the practice isn't as prominent.
That’s because now they use the cell phones to record the concert
Yeah I've burnt my fingers few times. As for recording.....they don't experience the music....but then again music ain't like it used to be. Remember you'd get kicked out if you had a camera 😓

They did another titled It Must've Been Love, which was the love anthem/song for Pretty Woman.
Just love Roxette so much!

Yes. Holding up lighters and swaying when you are at a concert gives a BEAUTIFUL effect like stars and gives you goosebumps when you're there.

'Dressed for success' got to admit thats one of my faves by Roxette. ❤
Yes, holding lighters was a thing back in the day. Especially in slow emotional songs. It let the band and everyone around you know you were touched in your feels.

Your next Roxette songs should be Fading Like a Flower, and The Look!!!

The Look and It must have been love are two amazing songs by Roxette.
I remember buying the album. A genre largely dominated by male groups. Roxette made a refreshing change. How about doing Heart-All I Wanna Do
RIP Marie. Fantastic, sometimes underrated voice.
Dangerous is also a classic
Terrific live act, I saw them in Australia in 2012 and I’m from the uk 🇬🇧 so truly devoted. Marie is amazing and per also does lead vocals, so nice to hear their different styles depending on type of song. They had 4 US number ones
A good one for female Friday would be Bonnie Tyler’s total eclipse of the heart
I Need A Hero by her rocks too.
*"Holding Out for a Hero" is the title 😜
Oops. Wasn't thinking clearly when typing. Lol.
Any Bonnie Tyler!!!!!!!!
Also, Linda Ronstadt. There is nothing she can't sing, from "You're No Good" to Gilbert and Sullivan! (Gilbert and Sullivan is operetta, sort of like opera, but more light-hearted)
I saw them in concert in the 80's. They were fantastic but she was mesmerizing.
Marie Fredriksson was the main vocalist, and she was one of a kind. May she Rest In Peace. 😔 I saw them live with my bro in 2012 and it was amazing!
Some other songs to check out:
-“It Must Have Been Love” (you might know this one because it was not only in the movie “Pretty Woman,” but also because it’s like…their biggest hit ever!)
-“The Look”
-“Joyride.”
-“Fading Like A Flower”
-“Dressed For Success.”
RIP to both. Thanks for the meaningful music. it touches my heart.
Today’s music has NOTHING on this!
Roxettte Rocked the late 80's and 90's. and yes we all held lighters like that coz many of us all smoked back in the day haha
