The Steelers became the 1st AFC team to win 15 regular season games that year. Ben went undefeated from week 3 to the AFC Championship and would have won that game if not for NE knowing the hand signals and plays before the ball was even snapped. Ben and the Steelers had proven they were the far better team that year so NE resorted to cheating to make sure they won.
No. No, no, no, no, no. The Steelers lost because Ben lost it in the playoffs. Ben was averaging 8.9 yards per attempt with a 98.1 passer rating in the regular season, throwing 17 TDs against 11 INTs. Then he hit the playoffs and laid an egg against the Jets, with 6.0 yards per attempt, 1 TD versus 2 INTs and a 57.8 passer rating. If not for Doug Brien missing TWO field goal attempts at the end of the game we never would have made it to the AFC Championship. He played a little better against NE but was still way off his regular season performance. The Patriots didn't need to cheat to feast on his miscues.
They only lost the first game of the season when Tommy Maddox started, if i remember correctly. Ben went 15-0 as a starter in the regular season before losing to NE in the Divisional round or Conference championship. Can't remember which round of the playoffs.
Second game of the season, against Baltimore. They lost to NE in the Conference Championship. _Should_ have lost to the Jets in the divisional round, but the Jets' kicker blew attempts from 47 and 43 yards in the 4th quarter that would have put them on top, and Reed hit a 33-yarder in OT to give the Steelers the win.
No, you must be thinking of a different game. Reed was 2-for-2 on field goals and 2-for-2 on extra points against the Jets. Against the Pats, we were never within a field goal after the first quarter.
I smiled when they said Bettis was coming onto the field. Dude is still my favourite player and the main reason i became a Steeler fan. Miss watching him play!

Fuck yeah. Glad I wasn't the only one to see that. The. Roidney gets all illegal contact after the whistle cause he's a punk ads bitch. Only good at head hunting unsuspecting wide outs over the middle . Then he has the balls to criticize James Harrison a few years later when the league was making an example out of him, and 99 percent of james' hits were legal.
The first game he came in to cover for Maddox you could see this was a really good selection. Never forget the feeling of "wow we might have gotten the best qb out of the three"

Big Ben is the greatest QB of all time! It always amazes me that Pittsburgh got so lucky to get him as a Steeler! Everything from the championships to the signature moments it really is amazing!
The 2004 Steelers rejuvenated football in Pittsburgh once again. The Steelers were coming off a disappointing 2003 season where they finished 6-10, and no one knew what to expect from the team in 2004. There was questions at the QB position with Maddox, questions on the defense having a bounce back season, the offensive line, changes in coordinators, etc... Not a lot of people realize, Roethlisberger was to be the third QB on the depth chart that season. The three quarterbacks were Maddox, Batch, and Roethlisberger. Batch tore his ACL in camp and when Maddox got hurt in Baltimore, that opened the door for Roethlisberger and well the rest is history. When the Steelers were 5-1 heading into this game, none of us knew what to expect, because up until this, the Steelers hadn't really been tested. When they beat New England and then crushed The Eagles the following week, we knew this team was for real.

It was actually the year they went to the superbowl and one so like 2005. It's crazy to think Ben never really got better then his rookie season. He is a first ballad HOF without question but it always seemed like he wasn't even the best player on any steelers team which sucked cuz I really liked him. I hated not seeing him win a single SB MVP but I'm sure he's just happy with those 2 Lombardi trophies. Idk why I'm dragging on I guess I'm just reminiscing but man his rookie season was the epitome of legendary. Just wish he could have topped it one year.
Great video. Just got me pumped to watch us play the Bills tonight.(Sunday night at home, 12-15-19, Steelers 8-5. Bills 9-4. with big wild card implications.) Here we go Steelers
The highlight of this comes from the Booth. Sportscasters have to be careful of early hype and not buying into somebody prematurely . On that Hine Ward adjustment catch when he said " It's over . This guy is pretty good . He is going to be consistent " , he knew there was a new future Hall of Famer QB that had arrived .
It’s sad how legendary Big Ben was before. Now people just wants him to retire and treat him like sht. If I’m the steelers, I’ll give Big Ben his sweet time until he retires just for everything he has given to the team. Give him a “Farewell Tour” when the time comes. I don’t want to watch legendary QBs retire without being able to pay respects. It is also the reason why Drew Brees’ retirement seems empty to me. It’s as if nobody gave him his flowers last year even though it was already known that it’s going to be his final year.
Pats stole hand signals from the Steelers sidelines in the playoffs later that season like Joey porter said, he said they both had the same team (no injuries), both teams ran the same game plans, and every time they called a play from the sidelines or audibled, the Pats would audible and knew almost 90% of the plays the Steelers were about to run. That’s why Ben couldn’t complete anything and turned the ball over. They knew where it was going every play. Had they not stole the signals the Steelers would have beat the Pats the same way they did in this game, and Ben would have won 16 straight games as a rookie and would have been the first rookie quarterback to start in the Super Bowl in the same year he got his liquor license. Just imagine that. A 21 year old rookie would have won 16 straight games, undefeated as a starter, and went on to start in the Super Bowl. Went on to win the Super Bowl the very next season.
Rivalry? LOL remind me when the Steelers beat the Pats in a game that actually mattered. 3 regular season wins over 20 seasons does NOT make a rivalry!
Pats taped the D signals in this game, and used it in the AFC Championship. Also, this is how a HOF runs the ball near the goal line. 8:51 and open field 10:08
Back when football was football... i miss the good ole' days and im super jealous i was too young to appreciate this era of football when i was living in it.
I was in high school during this era of football and remember every single name mentioned in this video. Man, the Steelers had a squad back then, and Ben was kinda of cool. His off the field baggage since then is really gross.
This is the year Dick Lebeau returned to the Steelers. The Patriots had no idea what the Steelers were doing on defense in this game. This goes along with what the Steelers players were saying after the AFC championship game, that the Patriots seemed like they knew they're calls.
Its amazing how the Steelers dominated this POS team when they didnt know our signals and what we were calling. If our first game against them is the AFC championship we would of destroyed them.
Thomas Hayes They legitimately copied are Hans signals lmao, they looked at the hand signals and are audibles it’s clear. Whenever Ben would adubidle, they’d audible. Shit the flux up you bandwagon peace of shit
how did that work out for you? Oh, I forgot Jacksonvlle kicked your butts and NE never saw you again. What is your excuse for the GB loss in the SB, I suppose they cheated too?
Some years after I started following NFL I came to the realisation that every single came featuring Big Ben was interesting and entertaining. Definitely my favorite QB to date.
First words spoken between Bill and Brady in the locker room, "Hey Bill, remember how we cheated and knew all their plays in the '01 Title game? Maybe we should do that again..." "Yup."
It's been the best of times and the worst of times but Thank You Ben, for all that you have done for this team and the city of Pittsburgh. You will always be my QB#1.
In back to back weeks Big Ben as a rookie beat BOTH Superbowl teams that year. Eagles and Patriots. The only thing that kept the team back was Bill Cowher. He decided to bench Duece Staley for some god forsaken reason, and Jerome couldn't muster 3 yards/carry. It forced Ben to throw on 3rd an like 12 each drive. If Cowher kept his regular season strategy, Ben would've had 3 rings by now.
@breiter4697 good thing your opinion don't matter. And considering he is near the top in stats for running backs in NFL history says your wrong he is still one of the best running backs in history.. prove me wrong
Sunday, October 31st 2004. 4:15pm Week 8 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Pittsburgh_Steelers_season#Week_8:_vs._New_England_Patriots This is Roethlisberger's 5th game as starting QB in the NFL after taking over mid game in Week 2 during his rookie year.
I remember this game, I was 13 at the time and I remember Gay going down with an injury and cheering because it was good for the Steelers. My dad taught me a valuable lesson that we don’t cheer for injuries for the other team, because nobody likes to see someone get hurt. This was my first full year as a Steeler fan and watching Ben, Hines, Jerome and crew do what they did made me a fan for life.
He was truly something special. I remember twice he timed the snap count perfectly and sacked the titans qb as soon as he said hike. Plus when he made interceptions it was truly a art form.
This is when New England had ripped off an amazing 21 straight wins. Remember that? Steelers ended that streak. Too bad New England pounded us in the playoffs. Bens 1st year. But we came back the next season. 6 seed. Remember that!?? Late November Lost 3 in a row, sitting at 7-5, next 2 games were Bears and Vikings. 2 solid defenses. Won that. Won out the season. Won out the playoffs. Won SBXL! Oh, boy, great memories 😂
Also, remember that we had Burress, Holmes, and Ward at the same time once , and that people tend to overlook how "great Hines Ward was as a player, yet we have him back in the person of Ju Ju Schuster.
yup. i've been saying this for a few months now. juju is the new hines/brown. brown took over for hines.. in a few years time, i think we'll see juju at no. 1 WR. the timing and talent just fits too well.
Friggin' right. One of the most overlooked advantages of all those superbowls. All those g-damned bogus pass interference calls in the waning minutes of the game didn't help them win dozens of games at all.

I love Big Ben
Tristan MacLeod that’s your mom job
Tristan MacLeod What the hell. We are here for a football video. This generation is straight fucking quacked.
Lol. Ur name is Tristan
Big Ben is the greatest
I'm happy this popped up on my recommended !! Big ben still out here Killin things 9-0 baby !!
“Start Of A Rivalry”
Phil Simms Predicted it.
Big Ben is definitely elite
Fire Vid bro.
Can you do announcer mess up/embarrassment?
Ben was actually 14-0 in his rookie season he came in week two when Maddox got hurt and won that game but didn't start
13-0 in starts i meant
Highlight Heaven 14 there's 16 weeks in a season unless he didn't play in week 17 you might be right
He was 13-0 in the reg. season and then won his first playoff game. He sat the last game of the reg. season so in all he started off 14-0.
Chris Spearline Steelers lost that week 2 game. Their only loss, until the AFCC game.
He went 13-0 his rookie season, he didn't start week 1,2 or 17
Back when football was football... i miss the good ole' days and im super jealous i was too young to appreciate this era of football when i was living in it.
I was in high school during this era of football and remember every single name mentioned in this video. Man, the Steelers had a squad back then, and Ben was kinda of cool. His off the field baggage since then is really gross.
We ALL have a past.
This is the year Dick Lebeau returned to the Steelers. The Patriots had no idea what the Steelers were doing on defense in this game. This goes along with what the Steelers players were saying after the AFC championship game, that the Patriots seemed like they knew they're calls.
The Game that made Jordy Nelson Famous. Awesome vid as always
Its amazing how the Steelers dominated this POS team when they didnt know our signals and what we were calling. If our first game against them is the AFC championship we would of destroyed them.
What are you idiots talking about? Sore losers as usual.
Thomas Hayes They legitimately copied are Hans signals lmao, they looked at the hand signals and are audibles it’s clear. Whenever Ben would adubidle, they’d audible. Shit the flux up you bandwagon peace of shit
@@thomashayes8901 gtfo,
@@jorgegaytan3012 NO need for that language.
how did that work out for you?
Nah dude Joe gilliam greatest steelers qb ever
I'm jk obviously it was Tommy Maddox
In back to back weeks Big Ben as a rookie beat BOTH Superbowl teams that year. Eagles and Patriots.
The only thing that kept the team back was Bill Cowher. He decided to bench Duece Staley for some god forsaken reason, and Jerome couldn't muster 3 yards/carry. It forced Ben to throw on 3rd an like 12 each drive.
If Cowher kept his regular season strategy, Ben would've had 3 rings by now.
So who was in the SB. You can keep your regular season wins
Jerome bettis is the most overated runningback of all time in my opinion.
@breiter4697 good thing your opinion don't matter. And considering he is near the top in stats for running backs in NFL history says your wrong he is still one of the best running backs in history.. prove me wrong
So happy we got Big Ben when we did!
He's a living Steelers legend!
Man...I don’t want to wait another 20-30 years for another Big Ben.

Week 8
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Pittsburgh_Steelers_season#Week_8:_vs._New_England_Patriots
This is Roethlisberger's 5th game as starting QB in the NFL after taking over mid game in Week 2 during his rookie year.
Ben is still the man. #steelernation
I remember this game, I was 13 at the time and I remember Gay going down with an injury and cheering because it was good for the Steelers. My dad taught me a valuable lesson that we don’t cheer for injuries for the other team, because nobody likes to see someone get hurt. This was my first full year as a Steeler fan and watching Ben, Hines, Jerome and crew do what they did made me a fan for life.
the nostalgia of this game 😩😩
I was there. Beck to back weeks we took down undefeated Pats and Eagles. Those two teams later played in the Super Bowl. That was a magical season.
The game that made Troy palomalu famous
He was truly something special. I remember twice he timed the snap count perfectly and sacked the titans qb as soon as he said hike. Plus when he made interceptions it was truly a art form.
Every game made troy famous before he got injury prone the last few seasons of his career.
Man oh man do I miss these guys. But the biggest unsung hero? Dan Kreider. Loved him and his physical style. Excellent run blocker too.
Steelers el equipo de mis amores y el mejor QB Ben ❤🇲🇽
Did you see "BUS" hit Harrison at the end of that run? I loved it to death !!!
Wish they would of shown Tom Brady throwing her helmet on the side lines more.
Aww man.. look at baby Ben! So adorable lol. What a Champion, and he will surely be missed in "Da Burgh".
The game that made Hines Ward famous
Landyn Bollman Superbowl 40
Landyn Bollman ph
is
He hasn't changed at all. Legend
Won SBXL! Oh, boy, great memories 😂
little did u know 1 year later he would win a superbowl...
So much wasted talent thanks to Todd Haley
I hope and pray this is true💯💯💯 i really think its the defence they cant stop the run
@KelMaster Construction wheres the retweet button or is that an old reply joke
Tomlin*
Todd Haley is so bad he couldn't even keep a job with the Browns for a half a season.
*Mike Tomlin
Then the Patriots would cheat at the NFC championship intervening the comms, filming, snatching the Steelers playbook and playgame.
Do 'The video that made Highlight Heaven famous'
George the pug all of them
Also, remember that we had Burress, Holmes, and Ward at the same time once , and that people tend to overlook how "great Hines Ward was as a player, yet we have him back in the person of Ju Ju Schuster.
yup. i've been saying this for a few months now. juju is the new hines/brown. brown took over for hines.. in a few years time, i think we'll see juju at no. 1 WR. the timing and talent just fits too well.
Just watch this games. You know why he will be a NFL "Hall of Famer".
Thxs for this vid i always injoy beating the patriots i miss that offensive line we had...
I watched this game like well here we go again...
Then after the game I'm partying like the zebra from madigascar
My boys! I was at this game and will never forget it 👍👍👍😀
The Game Le´veon Bell Famous
Wesley Gomes Barboza rookie year week 4 i think Vikings-in London
My first steelers game ever and I got to see Ben play for the very first time.
Then pittsburgh knocked off 7-0 philly the next week 27-3
It’s nice going back and seeing a game where Brady didn’t get calls
Friggin' right. One of the most overlooked advantages of all those superbowls. All those g-damned bogus pass interference calls in the waning minutes of the game didn't help them win dozens of games at all.
the game that made peton manning famous!
GamingMaster1 Peyton*
2003 against the bucs
GamingMaster1 that's Peyton and Eli's less famous brother.
He plays for the Oilers.
Nah, last i heard he was up playing in the cfl.
I bought Ben's jersey when he won this game
The real 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐 THE GREAT BIG BEN
