i am really into magic in the past month i've watched almost every one of your videos and i want to make it to the next level by going one on one with you and i appreciate you giving time to show others how to do these amazing magic trickes thank you!!!
Many false info in this video... And for those saying that it didn't fool them, it is because they know these moves and double backer exist. Vernon invented them himself, and then did the trick to Houdini. Nobody knew these even existed. So no, you are not a better magician than Houdini
Chris Boletis exactly. That's like saying babe rute wasn't the best of his time. Sinmoly because others have done a better record. Technology has made it easier. To hit the ball further etc etc. just like here. Anyone today can get a double backer. But in 1899 I'm sure it was unheard of.
Nice presentation Oscar. Your opening with rhyme, the build up and finishing reveal are professional. Really appreciate your video. Thanks for posting it. Fred
great trick and presentation! Card tricks are my favourite by far. But whenever i perform any of the tricks on your channel my friends ask to shuffle the deck mid trick or something, and i need to secretly restart and it all doesn't work out. Can you please teach a trick where they can shuffle mid trick or something. And when i show a coin trick they look all over my hands and notes/coins. Thanks for your video.
@@marcorosas7614 You can do all this by simply flippin two cards. There really no need for a double backer. It actually is much better without it, cuz then they can inspect the deck.
Nice tutorial. I already know how it's done, but I like the way you present it. Especially that little piece of history. You should try incorporating more historical aspects of the tricks into your videos, that'll help your tutorials stand out from the rest! I've seen many people teach the ambitious card, but this is the first time I've ever seen someone mention Houdini. I also find it amusing how so many people are going "this couldn't fool Houdini", not realising that it was nearly a hundred years ago, in an era that wasn't just pre-internet, it was also a time when this sort of thing wasn't even published in books, they were closely guarded secrets among card sharks. People tend to forget that all of these things we take for granted now were really innovative and that countless masters such as Vernon would have to work on it for years to perfect a single technique to the point when some random kid could just go on the internet and learn the secret in 5 minutes.
Thanks for the feedback 888SpinR. I think including historical aspects makes the video much more entertaining and enjoyable to watch. I will certainly continue to upload videos and make them as high quality and informative as possible. Thanks for you kind words.
What you are saying is that learning to play the guitar, for example is so much easier just because I can learn it by watching somebody play it on the internet? I don't think so. Simply being able to watch somebody do somebody do something doe not equate to being able to do it well. In other words, to "learn the secret in 5 minutes" is not enough. The internet simply exposes more people to the skill.
I watched this when you first uploaded it and never commented on and it. It deserves a great comment well done mate. You’re film editing and voice overs are so professional looking keep the good work up. 🎩👌
why is there so much hate in the comment section??? You can tell Oscar is really working hard on these tricks even though there might be some flaws, don't be so negative.
In one of my e-books, I gave the most probable routine that Vernon used - I have researched it intensely and verified with my friends Jon Racherbaumer, Jim Swain, J.K. Hartman, and others. No one is sure whether Vernon only placed the "Ambitious card" under the top card or used his Depth Illusion...I believe Vernon used his Depth Illusion, which was renamed with some subtleties later, by Marlo, which he called TILT. I am not absolutely sure who is to be credited for double-back cards, but Jean-Eugene Robert-Houdin (the magician that Houdini fashioned his name after), was known to have used double-back cards for at least two tricks, in the mid-1800s. Whether he created them or not, no one knows for sure. Vernon did not create the double-back card. Paul A. Lelekis
You can but it means you can't display the cards cleanly. I would personally buy a double backer or make your own. It makes the trick so much more powerful.
houdini didn't say no one can fool him, he said no one can fool him with the same trick 3 times. in 1919 in chicago dai vernon showed this trick to houdini when vernon was 25,he didn't put the card in the middle at all,he always put it second from the top. after 2 times houdini said that vernon is using duplicate cards, then houdini signed the card, and vernon still brought the card to the top,he did this 7 times. houdini never officially admitted that he was fooled by this this but this is what dai vernon said.
That was a great trick. You tricked me into thinking you really had a remarkable illusion. I was deceived right up until you did your first double lift. Then I knew the video was the actual trick.
The trick that fooled him was actually his mind, the guard of the prison where he was trying to escape left the door opened and he didnt even notice...
@Oscar Owen: What about using a tilt at the beginning instead of placing it second from the top? It would be a lot more powerful. You should have a look at Garrett Thomas's version of houdini card trick, it's honestly the most beautiful I've seen yet.
Decent ambitious card routine, the double lifts are quite obvious, but that double backer helps a lot to cover it. I'm sure Houdini would of checked the deck though, and seen the double backer
sourish iyengar thanks for the feedback. Obviously if this was being performed to a spectator I would use misdirection or a wrist keel to hide the double life. Unfortunately you can't do that on TH-cam 😂
you guys have to remember the time period in which this was done. By todays standards , with the tech and knowledge we have. It's easy to figure out. But back then, this was groundbreaking illusions. I can see why Houdini could not figure this out.
you all are forgetting some things. double lifts were new at the time. so we're double backers. The fact that with a double backer the card is legitimately on top was the fooling element. also, he used the Marlo tilt, he didn't put it second from top. Houdini didn't know this control.
This trick did indeed fool Houdini, so bad in fact that he lost night of sleep over it. Houdini hated not to know how tricks worked. This seems pretty basic now,but back then not many people knew about card sleights.
Just watched an episode of "Mysteries at the Museum" (S11 Ep28) that had a segment about Vernon fooling Houdini with a card trick. I know you I have read your many comment in magic and India vs Pakistan you are Pakistani
Shocks me how houdini didnt even know a simple double lift
@Laurent Pelletier exactly, the double backer was the genius move.

wail, so Houdini was fooled by the Ambitious Card Routine??
He was actually fooled by the use of a double backer. At the time, it was not publicly available and Houdini did not think of that.

Yes, but not this one!
Literally my exact thoughts

Your double is so clean, dude

Is thre misinformation in this video?
You are too good man plzz say me all that tricks how he fooled somebody and many more videos. YOU ARE THE BEST
For those saying why Houdini got fooled by an easy trick is because in his time double backers and double lift are still not yet discovered
Oscar Owen You are my best magician
Any way to preserve the card? Don't want to have to buy a ton of double backed cards.
Skip the last bit then. Although in many cases, provided you don't crease the cards, you should be able to bend it back in shape.
You can usually just bend the card back. Or just don't do the last bit of the trick.
You don't need a double backer, in these routines you'll rarely have anyone use one. I could take some random person's deck of cards and do it easily
Why does there need to be a double backer?
