  • Hi! Time to do some work to the front of the Citroen SM! The European headlight conversion adds a lot to the car, but it looks like it is adding a lot of work, too!
Thanks again to everyone who subscribed to our channel, and thanks for all of your "likes" and comments!
All the very best from me and Francine and the rest of the guys that help out on these heaps just for the fun of pulling wrenches with your buds!
    Cheers,
    s&f
Oh! P.S.: Shirts are ready; next vid will have some to show and then I'll be selling them (and stickers like the one at the beginning of the video) if anyone wants to help support our channel! Thanks so much for your patience! Cheers...

Can't wait to see those headlights move with the steering. Unfortunately I'm 60 years old so I only have about 10 to 20 years left. Don't want to rush you or anything.

The crazy thing is you know there were a couple of engineers sitting around who honestly thought it made sense to do the headlight actuators that way. Impressive progress.

Their other option was to engineer a Mars Base. Probably made the right choice.

You, sir, are a consummate professional. Even though you are self-deprecating you know how to work and have a great eye. Unnecessarily complicated: The very definition of French. That is except for Francine/Frankers. She seems to have calmed herself quite quickly. It's amazing how booze seems to make everything oh so much better when dealing with cars. Your spirit is up and it's great to see. Greetings to you and all the crew.

I'm starting to think the only thing not hydraulically operated on this vehicle are the tail lights. It is kinda fascinating to see the innards of one of these machines. And I agree, there's no one single word to give the level of complexity adequate justice. 'Involved' i say, and just leave it at that lol. Great series and thank you for the reminder to stick to a Renault 10, or a Peugeot 403 if i ever want a French car. Something a bit more.... er.. sane haha. I must admit though, there's a lot to admire from a mechanical design standpoint. Take care.

I couldn't have imagined you settling for anything less the the Euro lights, you appreciate the car too much to compromise- it just wouldn't be the complete SM experience without them. Smart move to make it a stand-alone project too- get it all buttoned down before moving on with the rest of the car. I always knew these cars were exotic & cool, you're making me appreciate that even more. Great work as always, cheers from NZ

On Hemmings, there are 4 of these for sale. One in New Jersey for 38500, and 3 across the pond ranging between 79500 and 118000. So tell us Scott, is all this to finance the next twenty episodes cost for 'My Classic Tire". Or maybe, I'm thinking you are just doing this to go to car shows and start peacocking about to bring in the ladies. Either way, this car, (whatever level of Pebble Beach standard you bring it to) is sure to still do awesome power turns in the freshly snow covered Walmart parking lot when you get it done

In 1948 my dad took me to Chicago to see Preston Tucker's factory, and to look at a Tucker 48. What stayed in my mind all these years was a central headlight that turned with the front wheels. I'd be willing to bet that ol' Preston didn't use that complicated of a control system, but then, it wasn't an SM! The front end is coming along great!

      Dear coldwarmotors.
Thanks for answering. Uuh, I see, it's a pity for these design icons. Every SM and DS should be saved but unfortunately it is not possible. Too much rust is a really miserable thing to have. I remember many Citroen in Germany all killed by rust pretty soon. But maybe you are able to find another not so bad SM, maybe for your brother? 2) Is my favorite car "Frazier" still O.K.? Man, I am amazed at your resilience to tackle these beautiful but insanely heavily engineered cars! And adding the fact they are RARE and parts are ... how the heck do you find parts anyways!?

Fantastic work, as usual. Truly amazing job you did on the front end. Citroen must have let the engineers out of their cages for these. Based on what you are putting yourself through for this car, I think you should re-badge it as the "Citroen BDSM".
