    I agree 100% this pixel art of this game is outstanding. Another thing Castlevania Symphony of the Night is one of my favorite titles on any system!

    Bounty board, Talent Tree, and a nice pixel art style.
    Well, time to buy it.

    I played the demo for this. Fun though it is, writers REALLY need to work on their exposition. We go through about THREE historical events that could've been games on their own-the demons, the traitors, and the outbreak-and all of them get jammed together to give us the present day. I feel like more writers need to ask themselves "Is this the most interesting part of your protagonist's life? And if not, why aren't you writing about that?"

      Feels like a question more suited to novelists. Game writing should be focused on providing narrative context for mechanics I'd argue

    • @ObsoletePerson
      @ObsoletePerson หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@koenuffing4416 I disagree with that argument. Games can be just as rich as novels, and we have games that demonstrate that well. But that also means that games can run into the same problems as novels, specifically in frontloading too much bulldust.
      I think a good comparison with another game is 'Small Saga'. Game starts and bam; you're in the sewers with your brother looking for food. We learn more of the world naturally through dialogue between characters as events play out, our worldview expanding with the scope of the story from the perspectives of the characters.

      @@ObsoletePerson I agree that games can be every bit as rich as novels can. But I also think that narrative direction should be focused primarily on finding ways to convey stories through gameplay. As such, the initial narrative concept should probably include concrete mechanics alongside story beats. Just focusing on the protagonist and other characters - like novelists can in the early stages of their projects - probably means something will be lost along the way.
      Regardless, I also agree that this particular title isn't a standout at all in terms of narrative delivery. Looks super static too

    Wow, that is a LOT of dialog for a Metroidvania. And that comes from a guy who loves story in games. I hope it's good

    This game looks neat, and it's on my wishlist now, but it just keeps hitting you with words, doesn't it?

    Love the chunkiness of these sprites. Feels like a more advanced GBA game in that regard - Owlboy is the only other more or less recent game I can think of that actually nailed that style. I'll check it out, reviews seem sort of mixed right now, but the visuals do have me curious.

    People didn't like SotN? It's such a popular game to the point Metroidvania became a thing more thanks to this one in the series than the other Castlevanias. I would be surprised if that was indeed the case

    • @wanderbots
      @wanderbots  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      People in the 90's dumped on it a lot for having pixel art, which they saw as outdated at the time. Made zero sense to me tbh.

    • @IottiPH
      @IottiPH หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wanderbots That's so weird. SotN around here (Brazil) was always super popular even for people who were already into N64 and stuff. And I always see it being glorified, so that was a shock to me. I'm glad so many people still like that artstyle nowadays cause I honestly prefer it than high realism

    The game looks very pretty, but it seems to lack a lot of variety. So far I've only seen 10 some enemy types and all you seem to be able to do is slash and shoot.

    Soldner? Ive never heard that term nor can i find anything that doesnt refer to the german term - in german the term "Söldner", someone who fights for a wage, the "Sold", means mercenary. In the basis of that i would say you pronounced it just right (minus the umlaut but that wasnt in the text, either, so...). But, yeah, mercenary would be the proper english term.

      Though in the english speaking world mercs have a bit of a low reputation, whereas in germany not as much.

    Did you just said people didn't like Symphony of the Night? I was just skimming thought to get a feel and see if I was gonna watch it, so I am sorry if I missed some context, but if you just said that you are simply wrong. There is not one person I ever met that did not like that game

      Game reviewers and a portion of Gamers at the time were fairly hard on it for not being cutting edge 3d.

      In 2000 to 2005, at least in my city, we had free gaming magazine in the places we could buy or rent games and I remember that every issue was saying how Symphony of the Night was a best seller. But I forgot that is came in the 90's and I didn't knew nothing about the game at that time, i'ts crazy that they were hard on it back then.
