You are the most relatable TH-cam musician I have found. Like you, I work a full-time day job while creating music. And like you, sometimes ideas get delayed or side-tracked because of work and life. But I still have the intrinsic desire to keep going and keep creating, and that's what I'll do even if my output isn't exactly linear and consistent. You inspire me - and this song turned out amazing 🙌
Nice, you‘re focussing more on the process rather than focussing on namedropping fancy plugin after fancy plugin. You remind us that music making is a creative adventure with undefined outcome… and that‘s where the joy lies. Thanks!
@@mn23122 sure do! I think that's probably what has helped the most. Drums are arguably my favorite instrument to play next to guitar. I think to effectively learn how to keyboard drum, you have to know how a drummer plays if that makes sense.
it's so kind of you to show the hard and frustrating parts of the process. a nice reminder that this are somethings that sometimes will happen and it's ok.
Man, I think everybody can relate to not working on a project for several weeks because of life getting in the way. At least I can and it's honestly the worst haha. Thanks again for being so open and honest. Makes for a much better transition than anything else imo. And the song turned out great. That's all that matters. Can't wait for the next video!
Bro I have been here since 1k, I’m glad to see your channel growing. The way you do videos is such a unique way compared to the standard, “ let’s make a song videos”. Keep it up🫡
genuinely loved this, i just started dipping my toes into what making music looks like and not only was this insightful but i love the song too!!! loved this!
This is one of my favorite channels on TH-cam. thanks for sharing the whole process, highs and lows. Your perspective on bouncing back from setbacks is something I really needed to hear.
that means the world to hear. I used to do music full time, fell out of love with it, not I just create to show others how to create what they love, and love what they create. I'm happy to get to do what I do now :)
Your content is incredible. I always look forward to your videos. One of the few producer channels that the songs are actually enjoyable. Keep up the great stuff
i'm so glad i found your channel! thank you for showing the frustrating parts. i felt like i was hitting a lot of walls that other producers weren't facing because of my inexperience. it's reassuring to know that the creative process is like this for everyone sometimes. you are an inspiration!
Mate, I’m probably around subscriber #9150 but I’m so glad to have found your channel, you’re a natural story teller and I’m here for it. Keep going brother ✌️
That's a good question. I used to do music full time, I was a touring musician for 10+ years. I got completely burnt out of it, fell out of love, and decided that I just wanted a normal day job for a while. In that time, I got married, bought a house, got a few dogs, and started discovering myself again. I decided to start making TH-cam videos of me just creating, and fell in love with that. All I want to do is to show others the joys of creating (hence the title of these videos). So to me, it doesn't matter whether or not myself or someone else has a full time job, is a freelancer, or does music full time, what matters is that no matter their situation they find a way to make time for creating. That's all that matters.
By far one of my favorite TH-camrs out there. Love your vids so much. I always find myself doing too much, or focusing too heavily on one thing, and I love how simple you make the process look. Thank you for making these✌️
Hey dude thanks for making these videos super encouraging to watch. I love learning some producing techniques while in a really chill setting. Your awesome thank you for making awesome videos keep it up!
Your indie vids always inspire me. Must watch as soon as they drop! Cuz I'm always working on writing songs so your content is literally perfect for what I'm doing. Thanks man! Keep it up 🍻
Great Video!! I also just discovered the "bridge muting technique" by using a (loose) hairband between the strings and pushing it closer to the bridge. works better than a cable because it lets the strings ring out a bit more. Big fan of your work man! Keep it up
@@TrevBarnes yeah that's what happened with me too hahaha. Just saw my gf's hairband on my desk and it worked like a charm (+ it adds great style to the guitar hahaha)
Love your videos man, they’re really inspiring - especially the bit about breaks and such, I usually pick up my phone but I love meditation and breath work and the idea of using that as my breaks makes a lot of sense. Also - what are you using for that distorted electric guitar? Great sound!
Thank you so much! And yeah, I don't know how I'd ever create without focusing on meditation and breath work, it's vital to what I do. And for the distorted guitar I'm using all stock Logic Pro sounds. It's pretty much the default british amp drenched in reverb.
They kind of just come to me like intuition. I've asked this question many times to producers way ahead of me, and they all have the same answer: Through familiarity of your process, your tools, and by being consistent, you build a creative muscle and develop a creative intuition.
Fun little Logic Pro tip! Logic is actually ALWAYS recording. I can't remember the command off the top of my head...though I think it is (Shift + R). Try it next time you forget to press record...it should bring up the last thing you were playing, may save you next time @10:18 happens! 🤘 Edit: Just realized you meant you didn't press record on the camera! haha! That is a familiar bummer that unfortunately doesn't have a command. 😅
First of all, I didn’t know that! I knew Ableton always records, but that’s very helpful for the future! And yeah, it happens (in the new video as well lol)
I totally heard Pumkins 1979 but that quickly went away in the mix. I cant hear the shakers or tambourine at all. I played way too many gigs with no earplugs. Too late now. It sounds very Wilco.. Thats a good thing. If you dig Wilco.
I love Wilco. The reason you don’t hear those elements is because I didn’t want them to stand out, rather be a subtle texture, so they’re buried, but they are there
I don't believe one is better than the other, it's all by scenario. There shouldn't ever be a standard in my opinion. I don't think it matters too much, as long is it aligns with your preference
When you first came in with that clean electric tone that sounded so good, everything you were adding sounded so good here. Quick question, when you show us the clips of you recording, is the audio live and raw or are you overdubbing the processed/mixed version of your recordings? I only ask because it just sounds so high quality and I wonder how you get such nice recording sounds.
Thank you! The clips of the recording are all live. I use OBS to basically record everything (camera, voiceover, DAW). Essentially, it's a direct output from my DAW as I'm recording.
The bit you said sounded like Creed sounded more like the opening to Everlong to me. Cool video.
That's incredibly touching to hear. Thank you so much!
Nice, you‘re focussing more on the process rather than focussing on namedropping fancy plugin after fancy plugin. You remind us that music making is a creative adventure with undefined outcome… and that‘s where the joy lies. Thanks!

practice, practice, practice
@@TrevBarnes do you know how to play real drums?

Contemporary christian worship band vibes tbh

LOVED the storytelling component to this video! Catching the moments where you hit walls, got stuck and things broke pulled me right in. More of that!
Well don’t worry, because next video is also full of technical problems lmfao

EZ Drummer 3's Tight Room Kit
