- Do you remember this classic? I loved this back in the old days, when gaming was about fun and not violence. I'm a bit rusty at this I must add. How many times did I die in this? Haha, you tell me. Take me back to the 90's and I'd be great at it. I suppose it's not about being good at it, it's about having fun. This is the Sega (Mega Drive) or Genesis version.
Information:
Pac-Mania is an arcade video game in the Pac-Man series, released by Namco in 1987 and distributed by Atari Games in the United States and Europe. It is a pseudo-3D interpretation of the classic maze game genre using an isometric view and features most elements of the original Pac-Man, as well as several new features. Pac-Mania runs on Namco System 1 hardware.
As in Pac-Man, the objective of Pac-Mania is to score as many points as possible. The player controls Pac-Man and attempts to eat all the dots in a maze, while avoiding being caught by ghosts that roam the maze. The player can eat power pellets that cause the ghosts to turn dark blue and become vulnerable; the player can then eat these ghosts for extra points, sending them back to their pen to return to their original colour and behaviour.

Does anyone remember that amazing pause sound from this version of Pac-Mania?
Oh hell yeah, I remember discovering it and being flabbergasted. Despite the music not being top-tier it still had some legit jams.
Pac-Man Park, Jungly Steps and the pause sound mostly. And the sound effects are straight from the arcade version.

I enjoyed the days this game was free on my mobile but now these happy memories turned into sad memories

I'll admit, I find the comment on the description about how this game is from back in the day where games were about "fun and not violence".
As if the two were mutually exclusive and as if this version of the game didn't come out the same generation as the likes of Mortal Kombat and Doom heh.
Anyway, I'm glad I found this game again. It's very fun and how I got to know Pacman when I was young.
same. they way op says "psuedo 3d" instead of isometric jumped out to me as well. they must not be very in touch with the modern scope of the industry. this is like saying that all books are about boring history now but they used to ALL be fun mysteries like how they read judy moody and junie b jones in their childhood. both mediums can be about literally anything.
This version of the game is okay. The music is a downgrade compared to the arcade version and it's easier overall.

The memory of the ridiculous speed increase after playing through the 2nd time brings a smile. Jumping at that speed you would completely skip the whole row of dots. lol!!! I can’t remember if it started over again for a 4th time or was it the end. I remember being on the final stage of the 3rd play through, maybe I blocked the memories of failure. Or it started over again and that was it for me. lol
I remember when I was 5 I really wanted to play this version, I thought it was very beautiful

i have played all versions gotta say the arcade and genesis are very well done the others did a fair job. the problem with the game boy advanced one is that the music is cut short. it kind of takes the fun and colorfulness out of it. probably due to hardware limitations on the cartridge because the game is identical to the arcade besides the music.
If the game was realistic, we'd all be expecting Pac to jump above the walls.
But what's on the other side tho 🤔

Edit: I have now been informed that this is ONE of the Pac-Man games that allows you to jump.

It was like this. The green ones jump but in the 2nd level there are not jumping. In the 4th one it gets a little faster!

i wonder if the ghosts in pac-mania work the same way they do in pac-man (in scatter mode blinky goes to the upper right corner of the maze, pinky goes to the upper left corner, inky to the lower right corner and clyde to the lower left corner and in chase mode, blinky finds the easiest way to get to pac-man, pinky follows the tile four tiles in front of pac-man, inky follows the tile 180 degrees opposite of where blinky is (for example if blinky is in the lower right corner of the maze inky will be in the upper left corner of the maze copying blinky’s movements) and clyde acts like blinky but he runs away from pac-man if he is eight or less tiles near pac-man)

The CRAZY difficulty is the most harder one, the ghosts are too fast, also you! how many rounds you will survive? Game can be completed, but there are 20 rounds. Once you beat the game, you can start over and you will still have the points you have.

Adam Henry i played it too on my nintendo DS on a gameboy advance game called pac-man collection and i don’t know why but pac-man’s death animation in pac-mania scared me as a kid because it is so different from his original death animation
