Pac-Man's Park (Pac-Mania) Song Comparison from Every Version

- Let's take a look at Pac-Man's Park, the titular song hailing from the second level of Pac-Mania. Let's see how this classic tune faired across platforms. I won't be including the Sharp X68000, Zeebo or iOS versions here, since there music is 100% identical to the Arcade original. The same goes for any versions found in Namco compilations or digital storefronts. Unfortunately, the GBA version of Pac-Mania, found in Pac-Man Collection, does feature a unique version of the song, but since it's not ripped online, and I'm not capable of ripping songs myself, I needed to make a mock-up version of the song instead. Thankfully, it sounds very much like the Arcade's music, and infact is a sampling of the Arcade's music, so I simply decided to take that version's music and shortened it to match the GBA version='s shorter loop. Yes, the loop really is that short, hence why I'm ranking it in last place. Oh yeah, did I tell you I have these listed from worst to best in my opinion. Nintendo fans might not take too kindly to my opinions here... Also, the MSX and Master System versions of this game were designed with PAL systems in mind, but the only rips online come from the game being inccorectly played at the faster NTSC speed, so to compensate, I simply slowed down the music to get it closest to how it sounds on a real PAL system as I possibly could. Like, the GBA, it's not perfect, but it's better than nothing, and still gives yall an idea of how those versions sound. That's all I have, enjoy the video:

Honestly they did the soundtrack dirty when the game was put on the GBA.
yeah, i think they should have done the soundtrack from scratch instead of compressing and cutting it to fit in rom
yeah they did i had to turn the volume down after a certain point 😭
Apparently they found a way to fit longer tracks on it but namco had only provided them with the shortened tracks and they were required to work with what they were given

This was remixed in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and WiiU and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Also, this was the theme for Pac-Man's Smash reveal trailer.
And remixed again in PMATGA.

Whats that@@JonesDylan874
Commodore 64 and the MSX fucking put the song on crack. It made it an invincibility theme!
Namco musem megamix has a unique version of Pac-Man’s Park
Oh really? I actually own that game, sucks I somehow didn't know about it. Thanks for the info.
@@diskyboy86 yea, I suggest to listen to the track closely and you’ll notice some differences

@@PurpleGhostWithHair bro 0:44 is the funniest thing in this video, i loved when pac man pacman'd all over the place
Genesis version is unironically the best one
Why do people still insist that the Genesis port is awful?
It gIves you 3 continues at all times, ghosts all have unique sprites, the pac boost can be enabled in the settings in 3 different ways and the Genesis has a large screen estate to work with, and the music is pretty decent
Functionally its a great version and doesn't suffer from horrendous sprite tearing and collision detection like the so-called superior Master System and NES conversions
It's not that it bad, just that it isn't what it should've been. It obviously beats the NES and Master Systems, and the GBA and Atari ST too in my opinion, but amongst the other 16-bits like the Amiga, Archimedes and especially X68000, it falls flat. Graphically, it's drab and lacks color and detail in many places. Musically, it's a mixed bag. This song and Sandbox Land fair well, while Block Town and Jungly Steps utterly fall flat. Gameplay wise, it's perfectly fine but the presentation just isn't what it should've been.
Pac-mania was the first Pac-man series i ever play
My favorite song!
I really like the NES and MX2 soundtracks, idk why.
The Sega master system version is very bad
Agreed. It starts the game with 3 lives instead of 5.
@@mariodykstra6555 ...So does the Arcade version.

Hey dude i love your content
Ok
5:39 Possibly one of the best soundtracks to exist
There's only one version missing and that's on the atari ste
It's unoffical though, and just uses the Atari ST's music, so there was no reason to include it.

The MSX2 Though...

It's trying its darndest, leave the poor MSX alone. :(

How did in the pac god the GBA get a better music track than the Genesis. Seriously, is the Pac Mania port for Genesis that bad.
Because the Genesis version's a lazy port by Sculpted Software and Tengen. The sad part is that Pac-Man's Park is actually the best recreated song in the Mega Drive port, the three other songs are even worse.
@@diskyboy86 Even the NES port was better.
@@yayo_youtube I wouldn't go that far, but the Genesis version is not what it should of been. it plays well enough, albeit a little too fast, and although I think Pac-Man's Park and Sandbox Land sound close enough to their originals, they should've sounded pretty much identical when you consider both the arcade hardware of Pac-Mania and the Sega Genesis used FM sound chips. Jungly Steps and Block Town both sounded pretty awful though. Plus, the poorly drawn sprites that looked almost 8-bit level in places and the lack of color don't help. A lazy port for sure. A shame Namco couldn't of handled it themselves. there is atleast an arcade sprite hack available now, but it still doesn't fix the music or speed any. Just stick with the Amiga and X68000 versions.
The looping kills it, though.
@@JMFabiano indeed it does. A shame too as the sound quality is actually quite good for a GBA.
