Skinner's comments were completely inappropriate and uncalled for and Simone Biles had every right to clap back. Not only did Biles and the rest of the team work incredibly hard, they also did it while putting their own health (including their mental health) first, something that has never been a priority in women's gymnastics. Not only have they won gold, BUT they have made a positive change in the sport for thousands of young women, showing that you can succeed in gymnastics without condoning abusive tactics. That achievement alone is worth even more than a gold medal in my opinion, as it will lead to women being saved from abuse and other negative consequences.

Precise. Teachers don't have to abuse students to get them to learn. Coaches aren't allowed to either. Protect children at all costs. Let achievement, the observation of achievement, great role models, and representation be the motivators. They'll rise or fall on their own merit. The IOC/FIG aren't adjusting down the code. There's no reason to worry that changing to a holistic training culture will eviscerate the potential for merit.
I truly resent her coven for stating that a few falls in today's era makes a lazy team. Gymnasts were falling in trials and at the Olympics for as far back as I can remember--that includes during the toxic regime. You don't have to be perfect but perfecting your skills. No one wants to perform badly. Smart gymnasts produce less catastrophic injury and an illustrious career.
Their win proves everything about the regime's recipe for success is returned void of validity. You don't have to abuse or starve an athlete to get high performance results.
It's been a toxic culture for so long that anything that breaks that tradition is deemed unworthy of medal.
The USA WAG Team commanded the floor. They are the standard going forward. I hate what the young ladies had to endure. But words cannot express my gratitude to Simone for her self-sacrifice and being the change agent.

I'm pretty sure MyKayla wants to go back to the "good old days" of gymnastics when:
      1. Gymnasts starved themselves to fit a certain body type, to the point of having an eating disorder, and some gymnasts even died, like Christy Henrich in 1994 due to anorexia.
      2. When gymnasts were abused physically, verbally and mentally by their coaches, assistant coaches, other gymnasts, judges in competitions and staff.
      3. They were at risk of being kicked out the team if they gained weight, were deemed too "old" to the point that they were replaced by a younger gymnast, in addition to dealing with injuries, surgeries, and were forced to retire before the age of 20 without having had the opportunity to have a career in gymnastics.

I think everyone is being too harsh on Skinner. I don't know her history in regards to Gabby Douglas or other issues. She was obviously wrong in regards to the Team's potential. However, people have the right to be wrong without being viciously attacked. It's fair for her to tie her comments to her coaching past. The education recieved during early formative years matters tremendously to the human psyche. The Karolys have been exposed in recent years for abusive coaching. This after USA Gymnastics condoned it in exchange for winning. It's not Skinner's fault she was raised this way.
Elite athletics is always super competitve which means it brings out super competitive people. This often creates friction between teammates. She said what was on her mind as someone who grew up in that environment. It often takes being aggressive and harsh to succeed. Ok, she couldn't back up her words and attitude with being the very best of the best. However, she is still one of the very best gymnasts ever with a Silver Olympic medal. I'm not saying she was a great teammate or the most gracious competitor. I don' t know. I'm just saying maybe we should have as much patience and consideration as possible for people like Skinner who come up in harsh conditions and then reflect that in their behavior. After all, the tone of her words were fairly mild and thoughtful. She appears to have been wrong, that's Ok. After all, maybe she saw or heard some things that made her question their work ethic. Either way, the results speak for themselves. Let's remember she's still young herself and has a lot to learn.

Skinner should not have made negative comments ahead of the Olympics, not because she is not entitled to her opinions, but as a former olympic gymnast, she should have supported the US Team. However, as much as I respected Biles and Lee for their achievements, I cringe from their graceless comments and vindictive behaviour towards Skinner, who has apologized already. Why could not these two royalties of gymnastics take the high road and be able to move past the misguided comments? I don`t blame Skinner for blocking Biles, as she is now behaving like a complete bully, and I`m surprised that team leadership not telling Biles and Lee and others to stop. Biles and Lee`s behaviour look like two college students, who are on social media after a night of partying. Totally disgraceful, and not deserving any respects. I was cheering for Biles and Lee and likely they`ll do well in the all around. However in this debacle I feel they turned it around and Skinner has become the victim. I hope both retire and disappear from gymnastics as this kind of behaviour is a bad example for young girls. Biles just proved that she will never live up to the grace and legend of the Magnificient Seven. She appears like a total narcissist, being offended easily, and leading a group campaign to bully and cancel someone. Shocking that how many here are egging her on and feel it is justified to be a ruthless public shamer.

Skinner wouldve received a monstrous amount of hate already for what she said, so shes blocked them, Jordan then goes to post that snickery snap, classless and petty. Take it however you will. Skinner did state in a video that her comments were never meant towards those on the current team shortly after she posted her initial video. She stated that she was referring to those that were not around during the Karolyi era (so probably people under the age of 10 at this point). Which all these girls, even the youngest, were a part of (the Karolyi era) and impacted by. Personally, I am not sure if her explanation was truthful or not. I do wish that the girls did not respond because it is irrelevant at this point and may look bad in future years. The fact that she got so much backlash for what she said shows how oppressive and judgmental the gymnastics community is. I understand criticizing skinners statements when they first came out. But you still got people rehashing this petty issue. It honestly makes me think less of team USA and Simone biles. Instead of celebrating their amazing achievements at the Olympics and focusing on themselves, they are showing the petty drama queen side of themselves by throwing a past teammate under the bus after she was already humiliated for having an unpopular opinion. I respect Simone biles ability like everyone does, but her pro active comment and rehashing of this dumb drama makes me lose some respect for her as a person. She’s already on top of the world.
