Always loved this song as an early teen - got living ornaments 79 & 80 on cassette tape initially, blew me away! Then i got albums for my record deck and the rest is history! The power of his synths and the way his music carroed you away........with Billy Currie of ultravox and other band members was almost a Religious experience
Sounds great but oddly the close ups never show Gary playing any of the melodic lines but the second keyboard player 'one-finger typing'. I think Gary has his melodic lines sampled in blocks? Still sounds great.
You also have to remember that pretty much everything that is being played is by Gary. He would have written and directed it all, initially he was a synth and guitarist.
When Gary gave Ade Orange the bum's rush in favour of Fenton he lost his competent keyboard player. However good Fenton was in the studio he wasn't a live keyboard player so it appears everything even slightly complicated had to be on the backing track.
Ade Fenton is more than capable of playing any of Gary’s keyboard lines. The second player is also doing more than “one finger typing”. This song is not that complicated for any reasonably adept keyboard player. But there’s no way of telling from this video who’s doing exactly what.
