It’s crazy when you like a beat and you have know idea it was done by one of your favorite producers! Had no idea this Premier!
I never knew... 🤯🤯🤯
Now thinking about it the cuts and the beat had premier all over it…Damn good shit here!!!
@@josephoutlaw2861 it definitely sounded like Premier and that’s why I liked it so much but never knew it was Premier.
Had me thinking Devin did his thing on production this whole time 🤯
Same here!
DEVIN THE DUDE THE MOST UNDERRATED ARTIST IN RAP HISTORY.. SO INFLUENTIAL TO ARTIST IN HIP HOP AND THEY DONT EVEN KNOW IT.. THE FIRST RAPPER TO CONSISTENTLY USE MELODY WITH TIGHT LYRICS AND FOR 30YRS
Facts !!!!!!!
Damn right and humble af
Premo is so identified with NY that people forget he was born and raised in Texas! Parents were educators at Prairie View A&M for years.
Agreed 💯 research is key 🗝️🔐
Premier is so HAPPY when telling these stories. The love comes across so naturally.
I remember when I first heard this beat and I thought "No way this is Premo." But, it just goes to show how versatile this man really is. One of his best produced songs in my opinion for that reason.
Same here I had no idea preme did that beat
Really the signature scratching didn't give it away? You guys must be new to hip hop
I been listening to this shit since i was a kid and never knew preme did this shit
I mean minus the tempo (as he said), its pretty Premo-esk
honestly this isn't one of my favorite Preem beats by a long shot. With that said, it's still a good beat and I admire the versatility. I used to read goofy Internet comments back in the day that argued Preem wasn't a real producer like Dr Dre or whatever. Just a sample beatmaker. LOL.
This is why Premo is Mt. Rushmore for me. When you think of him you think of east coast, New York, boom bap. But then he turn around and make a track that sounds and FEELS like Texas.
I ain’t gonna front I did not know primo did this beat, that’s another reason why this serie is so dope!
Premier is the epitome of hip hop, nuff said.
Sometimes i call Hip Hop.. (PREEMO)
Anyone else have even MORE respect for Preme after finding out that he produced this? I knew about his legendary gritty and grimey beats but had no idea he could slow the tempo down and put together a slap like this. This beat just FEELS Houston and it came from the king of NYC beats (I know he's from Texas originally).
Nobody talking about how Premo played the keys on this. Never knew he did that type of thing. Thought it was only sampling records. This song already a classic and my appreciation for it just sky rocketed
Devin the Dude is highly underrated, and by highly I mean out of this world…. If you don’t know Devin research and I promise you will not be disappointed….if your a true head
Wish they'd release "Just Tryin to Live" on vinyl. Plus "the Dude album" timeless classics
his second album is the best
His memory is impeccable. These stories are dope.
Two Texas legends!
classic shit right here. Tracks like this just speak to the versatility but signature sound of Premo...he had west, east, south, etc. emcees rock with him to this day.
u know DJ Premier is actually from houston texas if you don’t know
@@datboiijuanhtx everyone knows that, but what does that even have to do with my comment?
@@thecunninlynguist not everyone at least to my knowledge
Right. People often forget Premier nor Guru were native New Yorkers. They just came in at a time where NY was still the main hub for hip hop. Good thing neither were shut out and were embraced by all regions.
@@SDeezy593 why would they be shut out? They were ill. In my experience, NY folk are the most open to new ideas and sounds. It's the other regions that practice that regional bullshit
love the shoutouts to the Texas legends prem gives out
Shit man, seems like the 80s and 90s were the best time. I’m 14 and I listen to this shit all day!
it was.
@@thecunninlynguist ……and stop cussing
You missed it fam..
We had stories that were true to life not life you want to be true to sell records.
@@titanjake8640 spot on right there
@@trevorjames4619 I was actually thinking that 😂😂😂
I hope you start making beats live here on TH-cam that would be the dopest thing ever
Devin doesn't get the the recognition and respect he deserves. So underrated. Much love to the dude.
I didnt know this was Primo's production!!! I still listen to this every now, and then!
i never knew this was done by Premo. I've always loved Premier & always loved Devin. This was always one of my favorite Devin records. My mind is blown, right now.
That was my shit! S/O to Devin The Dude! That whole album is a SLAPPER! I played that whole album front to back driving from Milwaukee to Gary, IN. Didn't have to skip one track! One dope track with Preemo on production! Timeless!
Hip Hop Heads & Stoners need a video for the classic “Doobie Astray”
In 1998 i remember tellin my best friend that Premier is my favorite Producer ... An here we are in 2021 an He still my favorite producer of all time ...
Didn’t even know Primo made this beat till now. Wow ! True 🐐 .
PREEMO = G.O.A.T.
Geeked for this one. One of my all time favorite under-the-radar Premier joints.
A nice slow roller.
Preemo's slower beats are always dope! Doobie Ashtray and Betrayal are my all time favorites 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I agree 100% Betrayal and In Memory Of still give me chills to this day!
2nd Childhood by Nas

PREAM!!!, I need one of them hard to earn snapbacks. "Let's get it "👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
devin is that dude, lacville 79, R&B, doobie ashtray, and ofc the legendary verse on 2001
it's a shame is also my favorite track on the album
DJ Premier is such a LEGEND in hip hop but here in TX we also know him as the son of a HBCU LEGEND. 💜💛💜💛 Storytelling is just a GIFT in this family! #lovethisseries #TX
Shot out to Devin the Dude, played your jams in China all the way back in 2000. Preemo, much love and respect.
Whaaaaat!!! I never knew he produced this. Preeemo is the greatest
3:48 I remember that machine every studio had one of those. That was like standard when It came out very popular sound module.
Always love when Preem links up with Texas artists. I could go for a whole album, be it compilation or 1 group/MC.
Preem with a bunch of Texas/down south legends: Scarface, OutKast, Devin, Slim Thug, Lil Wayne (!), Bun B, TI, Goodie Mob...
Please add some more
@@raphaeljoseph6952 and UGK.
You know Preemo gotta work with his home state people!
Had no idea you did this track, can kinda hear it in the drums now. Stoner classic!
Devin is The Dude, and this song is an evergreen classic. But until now i had no idea this was a Preemo production, I thought he only made the cuts here. Wish Devin got more airplay and recognition, he such a positive guy!
whos playing the guitar tho? that lick is super under rated
Salute to the 'Tha Dude'.., one of the most consistent artist in the game...
"Ain't no mo doobies in the tray." ~ Devin Tha Dude. Nice one Prem. Can't wait to view this one.
“Just Tryin To Live” has to be one of the best sophomore albums ever made in hip-hop!!!
yes his second album was straight fire the album was supposed to drop in 2001 but got pushed back to 2002
Uncle Dev is most definitely a legend, and his music remains timeless to this day
Legend. I never knew you produced my favorite devin the dude record.
I swear I could never get bored of these. Premo could drop one every week for a decade and he still wouldn't cover all the classics he worked on. Dre and Premo are the 2 definite GOATS of this shit, still producing bangers today.
Wow!!! This was made by Preemo?!? Salut indeed! Would have never guessed, even despite the signature scratches. What an unexpected collabo.
A beautiful stoner ballad produced by the greatest Hip Hop producer that has ever lived by a fuckin mile there isn't even a conversation I would engage in about it other than to make the other person feel cool for a minute and humbly put them on the correct path
J dilla?
You should do one on Mathematics by Mos Def
YES
0:07 very dope like always 🔥🔥🔥🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Kids today never gonna know what life was like before the dispensary. This track was too real. Big ups, classic beat. One day out and I'm 24,000th in line to like this...
Classic beat i didn't know Premier made this beat great producer man
Yes this is one of my favorite beats of all time!!!!!!!
One of my favorite Devin Bangers
That baseline helps the song sooo much. 💯
Man is waiting
Jeeeeeeeeeeeezeeee
Devin's catalog....If you don't know....just go study....You're welcome! Salute, Preemo for another classic!
Devin the dude !! That laid-back wordplay just to flow along the city ...thanks Preemo for your videos and the channel..your content is awesome. I am on my 40 but still listening and learning the culture that I grew up with in my hood.greetings from chile.🇨🇱🍻
Absolute classic! I’m not sure if it was this song or his appearance on Chronic2001 - but both made me a DTD fan. That whole Devin album is tight, but I remember when I got to this one, I was like 🤯 Devin+Primo?!? Keep ‘em comin Primo!
As many album covers I read …how did I miss this shit. Mind blown as much as I duck wit Devin and preme lol
ahhhhhhhhh yes... Loved This... this was... 2002. i had now wrecked my 1st truck A black jeep cherokee. was still rollin it though. this was also the P2P era, i remember i loved this, Rass Kass Golden Chyld. & Devin Some Of Em Around This Time. MEMORIES

Premiere is The God producer. The actual god.
Absolute genius 🫡
Love how clear Premo is in explaining things, master class!!!!
Devin in my top 5. So underrated!
Holy fucking shit, 2 of my favorites and how did I not know Preem made that beat?? Disappointed in myself.
I still use the SP-1200
I remember hearing this in 10th grade. New it was a classic and could instantly tell it was Premo. Loving this channel. Keep these coming.
Wooooooow!! I never knew this!!!! 1 love!!
Whatever it takes to get the job done CORRECTLY, something I always respected about Preem✊🏿
This is one of my all time favorite tracks....much love Preemo, knocking it out of the park with every episode
My favorite song on that album..
I loved this tune the second I heard it. Having a behind the scenes for it, feel blessed. Thanks Preem. You are one of the best to ever do it.
You awesome premier, one of my all time favourites, with RZA
Every ep is a classic.
Preemo is the G.O.A.T 🐏 🔥
I remember when I met Devin. Really crazy time.
These videos are like a masterclass in hip
hop arranging
Didn't realize Premo produced this. Maybe that's why it's my favorite Devin the Dude song.
Man I just discovered your channel today and I realized you are responsible for such a large chunk of my life when it comes to hip hop. Appreciate you sharing your stories and for keeping my ears happy all these years!
That Fadanuf Fa Erybody is a classic! Rapalot was on fire back then!
Oh man, I want this series to go on FOREVER!
EMU has some nice modules. You can hear the Phatt on Ownerz album!! I have the Phatt and MoPhatt and the MP7!!! Another good episode. Yessah.
Phonk Beta had that bass from Planet Phat I believe, and if you don't know look up "Loaded" from the Brotha Lynch Hung.
That's crazy. I never knew Premier was a part of this joint (no pun intended). Amazing.
So stoked to see this! I was requesting this one in the chat during the "So Wassup? Live" stream, a few weeks back! The Universe saw this one and I am thankful!
so far my favorite track from the album just trying to live
One of my all time favs from Devin
Yo Devin is one of my Fav’s. He goes way back, H Towns Finest. Coughee Brothers. I thank Jah for J. Prince everyday!
This is one of my favorite tracks by dude.
Devin ! I used to follow him all over Houston!
Daaaaaaaw SHIT! One of my favorite songs OF ALL TIME! Only recently discovered it. Nobody will ever know if it's their favorite Premier track because my man has SOOOO MANY HITS... but it might be tied for #1 with FULL CLIP. (Yo, Preemo...! You know we WAITIN', right???)
DREAMS COMES TRUE!
clicked on this so fast... one of my favorite chillin out trax
I still got that Odd Squad album. It’s one of my most prized in my collection.
I asked for this one because Doobies in the Ashtray is in my top 5 Preemo beats. Glad he chose to do this.
I love all the So Wassup videos, but that Hard To Earn snapback really steals the show man. I need it!
That scratch sound was dope lol.
