HAITIAN FOOD is hands down one of the best cuisines on earth!! Coming from a Black American. SOOOOOOOOO FIRE!!
🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹
I'm originally from Georgia but moved to south Florida when I was very young so I grew up around a melting pot of amazing ethnic foods. Haitian dishes are one of my favorites. After moving back to GA, Haitian restaurants are non-existent so when I crave Griot, Legume, and rice & beans I search to learn. This recipe came out soooo good! I'm getting better each time I make it. Reminds me of my 2nd home!
Awww, I am glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching my video!
Rae there are several Haitian restaurant in Marietta, Gwinnett and dekalb.
@@Fabulousaddy Yes, I'm aware of the Haitian restaurants in the Atlanta area bcuz I lived there for 10 years. I've since moved to another part of GA that do not have them. The only time I have access to these restaurants is when I visit Atlanta which is not too often. 😔
Get you a Haitian spouse! A hard working Christian one and you can have them do all the cooking lol 😂! I’m Haitian and my wife is a black American, I cook Haitian food one time and from that point on she makes me do all the cooking 🤣🤣🤣
@@FloridaZoe305 I wish I could but I'm already happily married. On the other hand, it's problay good that I'm not because I will never be able to keep my hourglass figure. 😀 Nevertheless, you're wife is lucky. I know she's eating REAL good! 😁
I'm Jamaican but I eat a lot of Haitian food, I just love it.
And me being a haitian i appreciate Jamaican food as well😊
As a haitian i love Jamaican food.. especially the way you guys cook your meats
Iove me some Haitian food. Best of the Caribbean jn my opinion. Good work sister 👏
Thanks hun 🇭🇹
Yesss
🇭🇹🌶️🇭🇹
Yep 💯, I'm haitian & feel we have the best food but luv Jamaican & other foods too!
I am Vincy 🇻🇨 and my ancestors came through Haiti 🇭🇹 from west Africa! My family is still there I send things to them all the time! I use to go from the US to the carnival every year but not now! I love 💕 eating and cooking Haitian food it's the best! Thanks for sharing shalom

Thx for recipe sis

Mèsi cheri! Ke Bondye beni w tou!
I like it. I used to share flat with a Haitian family they always made this or sauce that is made from red or black beans as well. They boil and blend, tasty with rice and salad
My wife is Jamaican and Im Haitian.. I introduced her to haitian food, can’t get enough of it.. she even eats it for breakfast 😅 I’m learning how to make it.. she tries to make it at home but…Well let’s just say I’m learning how to make it 😊

That's a beautiful diri kole! I always love the coconut milk in it, adds that silky tropical flavor. Thanks Annette, I love your recipes and your new website. Nice work and God bless!

Omg. Thank you one of the my Women who can actually cook the way it is really done in Haiti. Thank you so much for sharing. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Your so welcome hun dear! 🇭🇹🇭🇹
This recipe is stuck in my head. I didn't expect myself to be so amazed. I m learning slowly. One recipe at a time. Thank you
Your so welcome
Annette, you make Du riz kole 🇭🇹🇭🇹 (Haitian Rice & Beans) exactly the way my moms and aunties did growing up. Sometimes my aunt would add andui or bacon. Thank you for these authentic and delicious Haitian recipes!! 🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹
Yessss that bacon bits in that rice and beans just hit different😂😊
Made this for my mother in law today...🎉🎉🎉
This is something I would eat right now at 10:18 pm! Coming from Louisiana (your Creole sister state!), we would add some smoked meats to it but I’d eat this straight from the pot as is!💯🔥🤜🏾🤛🏾
And this is the recipe I’m sticking with 👌🏾🙌🏾 thank you mama

This caught my attention and looks soooooo good! I love rice and beans being Guatemalan from central America of course. We eat black and rice beans together like the Cubans But this looks amazing! I have to make it one day👍😋🍽️
We also make Black rice and beans! Very delicious!
@@dorannette26 ♥️
This is the National dish of Haiti that was used during the Independence celebration day and was propagated throughout the Caribbean islands and the south of the USA 🇺🇸. Looks good !
Use fresh spices all the way without Magi. Using the Red kidney beans or the black beans do have a meaning to it. Red kidney beans is great to eat with poultry and some meat, the black ones with Seafood. Salted fish or pork
Thanks hun, YES, Diri kole ak pwa wouj oswa nwa is a staple in our culture!
@@dorannette26 😁hi Annette-do you add the green pepper finely minced, scallions and shallots? You could let the cloves boil in the water they will surface on top of the rice. Uncle bean rice, jasmine rice and basmati rice, niki rice are just great for this dish. Don’t forget to drop a fresh habanera pepper and a little bush of fresh thyme when the water boils just don’t let the pepper burst. You only want the flavor. Do you know how to cook cashew nuts with rice and cream of coconut. For this one it is a palatable dish with shrimp, lobster and crabmeat cooked with white wine vinegar and fresh tomatoes 🍅 on the vine with a side dish of fried green and sweet plantains garnished with a few slices lettuce and tomatoes and avocado 🥑. And for a drink a choice of coconut water with a little bit of white rum and lime. God bless!
@@dorannette26 you must think 🤔 I am playing. My plan is to fly over there 👉 and eat your delicious dishes. Can you find breadfruit and cassava leaves over there ?
@@userPs91victory lol, let me know when your in town. Yes, we have breadfruit here but I’m not sure about the cassava leaves.
@@dorannette26 where in Florida is your restaurant? Going to a hotel I will kill the day by coming to your place for 3 awesome and superb tasty meals 😋 and make sure that I take all my meds. The only fruit juices that I can take is grapefruit, lemon, soursoap so tasty 😋 and of course water. And for desert “cashew tablets” with an 8 foot high Haitian cup of Coffee and call it A DAY ❤️! Guaranteed won’t gain a pound the Grapefruit will eliminated all the fatty little nerds. 😊
Oh my goodness, this looks absolutely amazing! I’ve been making diri kole in a rice cooker and it definitely doesn’t do it justice!! But this right here!? 😩🤤
😂 yeah not the rice cooker, thanks hun
Looks like Jamaican rice and peas (bean ) with a little variation (frying of the beans) very interesting. 🇯🇲
The rice are Similar but different in taste 🇭🇹!
@@dorannette26 may be it's because you use parboiled rice which has a distinctive taste. I didn't see anything that you did which make it taste significantly different. 🇯🇲
@@jetsnitram7188 The parboiled/Basmati premium rice I used doesn’t have a distinct taste. I do not use the ones you’re referring too. I have had Jamaican rice many times, it’s very different from Haitian rice. 🇭🇹

I love your style of cooking and video’s keep them coming. I enjoy Haitian food when I can have it.

I have no idea how people measure rice and get it perfect every time Thatt 2 to 1 ratio does not work when you're putting stuff in the rice...
I watched this just to feel my daddy in the kitchen An you make My heart happy cause he use to cook it just like that ❤ an that pepper always made me mad 😂😂😂 the food so good you want to swallow but here the spicy mess
Haitian food is the best 🇭🇹

Love this! Only thing i sometimes don't think the basmati absorbes the flavor as much but that might be controversial lol
Thank you! I would have to disagree, basmati rice absorbs the flavor of the liquid very well.

What is the green thing that you put first??
@@zaidaramirez1891 It is called Haitian epis, other call it green seasoning. I have videos on my channel on how to make it.
Fabulous!
Can you tell me how much coconut milk your using? And how much for the water from the boiled beans are you using?
I didn’t use measurements, add a little at at a time and taste it until satisfied.
Everyone cooks different 😮 I was tought to let the coconut milk bowl with the bean water when it trun brown then you pour the milk because it will make the rice and beans taste funny with a loud sour smile.
What? I use the coconut milk both ways. However, I have never heard of coconut milk in rice, tasting funny or smiling sour. Maybe the coconut was spoiled or the canned coconut milk was expired.
You have some people with spoil hands. I want to a Haitian Restaurant with a friend in she bought a plate but,she couldn't eat it. It smile funny and once it hit 12:00pm I'm sorry too say but, that food was stank and spoil that's the reason I never ate from a Haitian Restaurant longest if it's only my deceased mother when she was alive 😥😥😥😥
@@juidithegeffrard2737 .. Yeah, not everyone that opens a restaurant , knows how to keep food at the right temperature to prevent it from going bad. I agree with not buying food from restaurants.
I agree with you 100% because I never ate from no Haitian Restaurant but,my decease mom cooking only.
Delicious, i need to get the ingredients and start cooking. Hopefully, it will turn as good and tasty as yours.😋

Did u use half of the peas? A can of coconut milk or half for this rice?
I used a bag of beans and 1 can of coconut milk.
Looks amazing, nice fluffy rice
Thanks
Best food in the world. ❤❤❤
Yessssssss!
What brand of parboiled rice do you use? I’ve tried a few brands and they all have a very distinct flavor which overpowers the flavors in this dish.
I use Ti Machan’n premium rice, make sure you wash it 4 to 5 times. It won’t have that distinct taste you talking about.
Did you boil and wash the beans, or did you just put it straight into the boiling water?
You differently did not watch or listen to the video. Yes, I washed and boil the beans.
No madam, I watched it. I was asking you nicely if you washed the beans prior to boiling and how long did you boil the beans for? But nevermind I'll interact with another Haitian creator without the unnecessary attitude.
@@m21pierrelouis … I didn’t have an attitude! I said you must have not watch it because in the beginning of the video, I explained in detail what to do and also the beans were still wet ( when pouring the beans into the pot, you can still see the water from washing them). I also mentioned to cook until tender. I actually take time out, to answer questions and go as far as speaking to some people on the phone to walk them through the steps, as they are cooking a meal. I know I can’t satisfy everyone. Thanks for watching anyway!
omg! I gotta make this rice. looks so good
Thanks dear
It would be nice if you stake the clove on the hot pepper, and let the coconut cook little bit more, that’s my opinion.
First of all , I mentioned if you want you can put the cloves on a bell pepper or a piece of onion. Second of all, I do no have a problem with cloves in my food!!!! Lastly, I cooked the coconut milk but for the sake of the video not being too long , I cut the video short! It is called editing!! Thanks anyway for commenting!
@@dorannette26 not to mention the fact hat u just wanted the flavor of the pepper and not the heat.....

Hi which brand of rice did you use ? 😃
I used several brands over the years. I believe it was the Ti Machan’n brand. Make sure you wash it several times so it doesn’t have the typical basmati rice taste.

Okay, so if we comparing RESTAURANTS? I guess, although as a Haitian dude myself? I can confirm no two Haitian restaurants (or Jamaican) makes their food the same. I’m a sucker for a good oxtail from the Jamaicans but If we talking Pwason ? Pair it with the diriz blan ak pwa and I’m all in every time.
@@Moofydakidd all I can say is , you have not tried oxtail from the right Haitian person. Jamaican oxtail is is good but it is not my first choice.
@@dorannette26 you know l, you’re absolutely right mama, it’s just my part of town its but so many restaurants. And unfortunately my family doesn’t make oxtails, they stick to the griot and seasonal soups.

Yes, my late Mum had many of the same caldero pots that you have in different sizes! She, too, never measured when she cooked. She and my aunts learned this from my Granie.
