It has been more than two months since ethnic violence erupted in parts of Manipur, but clashes between the two communities - the Kukis dominating the hills, and the Meiteis dominating the valley, continue.

I'm an ex Army officer from Punjab posted 10 years in Manipur, in Senapati and Churachandpur. So, i know both the communities. I trust the Kuki-Zomi more than the other.

If Pondicherry (20sqkm) which is 1116 times smaller than Manipur (22, 327sqkm) can become UT and Goa (3702sqkm) which is 6 times smaller than Manipur can become a state. Then, it's very much possible for Kuki to be given a State or UT than live with the Meitei who can looth 5000+ guns in the valley and the State Government can do nothing about it!.. If the State Govt. cannot protect them, it's the duty of the Centre and the Constitutional rights of the Kuki-Zo to be able to govern themselves within the Constitution of India. 🇮🇳

Kuki-zos will be more caplable in handling the illegal immigrants like the way Mizoram govt. did than the manipur govt. if separation is given. Manipur govt.has been incapable of handling it and blaming the Kukis-zos for their incapability.

I cannot consider the attempt of a Christian tribe to grab 90 percent of a state's land as clever but it is clear that there is a foreign conspiracy behind this ruse. Government of India should crush the testis of Christian tribal leaders to prevent separate state demand and ethnic conflict. The meiteis only attacked the kukis cos they believe that some kukis are immigrants but they dont consider the Nagas as immigrants/refugees. The Nagas consider every Kuki as refugees and if the center gives SA to the Kukis who also claim ancestral lands that the Nagas claim belong to them, this situation will only get worse.

@@defjam137 not all nagas consider kuki as refugee but in the past maybe. If you look at the geography nagas usually reside mostly in mountainous area where the soil are not as fertile as where kuki reside. Kuki usually reside in plain areas which is very similar to imphal valley and also keeping in mind that in near future Lamka is going to be one of the richest business hub in the entire NE as the trilateral highway connecting India-Mayanmar-Thialand also known Kaladan Multi-modal Transit project is on the verge of completion passing through kuki dominated area. So in my opinion I think this riot was a pre-planned by the people in power. This is also one of the reason why I think meetei didn't targeted the naga in the riot even though nagas were against the inclusion of meetei in the ST status.
I am also very surprised by the fact that this conflict is between Meetei and kuki as the relationship between kuki and Meetei were mostly on good terms because of Muivah 🤣. I really hope that kuki and Meetei people find peace and sort out their differences peacefully. Seperate UT for different community is the only viable option right now.

This is a sad reality. Because of some propagators, who wanted to incite conflict for political reasons this longstanding yet minor issue turned into a civil war. And more than the political leaders the common people have died. Right now the political leaders should be in front and face the bullets but most of them are out of Manipur. Right now, the plight of the people of Manipur is extremely sad and even suggesting an amicable ground seems to be insensitive. So I think this must be as difficult for the centre to deal with.
That being said. I think the concept of private property is very different among these tribal communities. They think that the forest land is owned by the village but under the Union of India, it is not the case. Only in the state of Nagaland which has the provision of Art.371a, does such cultural law apply till today. Which has resulted in a massive drawback in maintaining the ecology of Nagaland.
Explained in the most simple way, truth is always evident in its simplest form.
Seperate administration for Kukis is the only way out to solve the present situation in Manipur, the silence of PM speaks louder for separate administration 😂

Concerns are valid for separate statehood or administration or UT because lot of serious lapses already happened due to lack of actions taken from authorities.. hence the fear factor will always loom around and that is really making this separate administration a need of the hour.. so it’s understandable.. So central leadership must intervene soon and erase this fear factor among both communities.

Just like Hindus have to make some concessions to different people of India to make it United
Its same for the Meties of Manipur
If you want to make Lakma Chandrachuranpur and control the state by 40 seats in 10% area
You have to give up ST status
And
If you want equality
Then give kukis a state of themselves and have the st status but in this case
Kuki ST status will also be of no practical use .....

But they will have a kuki CM
Quotas within quota is a thing. Assam and Nagaland implement it, wherein they have upper ST and lower ST vying for different reservations. If Meiteis get ST (which is still subject to a whole barrage of due processes), that quota-within-quota setup will 99% be the case for Manipur. ATCs can be given 6th schedule to empower the kukis and nagas to protect their hills too.
Btw 40/60 seats are unreserved. If the kukis feel they can't win any of the seats, there can be delimitation. These grievances of theirs can be addressed constitutionally, but poppy cultivation and sneaking in their kin from myanmar they have no justification for. That's why they have resorted to wedging a divide between them and meiteis in order to push for a separate state.
Meiteis won't stand for it considering most of them were imports from Myanmar by the British and the manipuri nagas won't stand for it either as they too see them as non-native and their demand encompasses a bunch of naga ancestral lands.
Please don’t comment if you are not well versed with what’s exactly happening… out of 60 seats 20 is exclusively reserved for ST and remaining 40 are unreserved and can be fought by any communities …

Both State and Central Govts have let down Manipur for sure. I don’t believe that if the central Govt. wanted the violence to stop, they could not do it. So what’s the game plan, I don’t know. But for Manipur, it’s very tragic.

Good discussion but the question of immigrants or influx from Myanmar was missed. This allegation made by the Meiteis is just to project the tribals as foreigners, immigrants. In fact, there could be some, few hundreds entering Manipur taking shelter in different districts due to the problems in Myanmar. However, they are our own people. International boundary did not actually divided us from blood relation.
International boundaries may not divide your blood relation but when you enter from one country to another country without legal permission is called " Illegal Immigration " in English.

There is an underlying imminent conflict between Nagas and kukis. This will surely pop up when the centre gave something.. small pockets of hamlets of both the community falls in a different demographic district where they are the minority. This must be sort out now.. before you open the floodgates

I agree with the statement regarding Poppy Cultivation. Some Kuki's are involved in cultivation of poppy for their livelihood, but blaming all Kuki-Zomi as cultivator, that's a big thing to say without any solid proof and on the other hand, the Meitei's are the one, who is doing all the making, dealings, smuggling drugs using Mizoram as a route to other Indian states. Some Kuki's maybe the cultivator but the making, the dealings, the smuggling are done by the Meitei's. The Manipur Govt. knew all along about the Poppy Cultivation done in the hilly area but didn't do anything in the past, why?? can some Meitei Politician were involved??? and suddenly now, the Manipur Govt. is getting interested and blaming all the Kuki's-Zomi's as Poppy Cultivator?? It's like blaming the whole family when one family member is doing drugs.
Regarding the Guns & Ammunition, how can a few mob, from the Police station armory or military can get all the arms without firing a single shot from both sides?? How can they place one person to guard the armory when they knew the situations?? It's all a lie. Didn't anyone saw the interview of a woman who says, all the Guns & Ammunition were packed in a parcel and were given not taken by force and she saw all of this by not only her but also some her friends..... How can they take all the arms and ammunition without firing a single shot either from both sides?? it's a Miracle.
