Also imo, the Trail Carbine really should be counted as a good early game weapon, there's a guaranteed one right outside goodsprings if you don't mind a difficult fight
Not having the survivalist's rifle is kind of crazy. It takes very little time to figure out the sights and as long as you can reliably get 12.7 mm (doing the unmarked vendor quest at camp mccarran is pretty easy), it does an insane amount of dps and is very easily repairable.
Also, the ncr vendor at Hoover damn has like 3000 12.7 and a bunch of other ammo in his inventory, which is insane because most other vendors, including the gunrunners only have like 100 12.7 available to buy at one time
Survivalist rifle while good and having a bad ass backstory is probably one of the most overrated guns in NV. 48 base damage, 1x crit mult, no crit bonus and no access to AP ammo is all kind of mid. It is statistically inferior to a riot shotgun w/ slugs in almost every way imo (riot shoots faster, higher damage, same crit mult, larger mag, option of swapping to other ammo types, weighs less, shotgun surgeon included. survivalist rifle is only faster reload). It’s good but definitely not one of the best guns in the game for sure, I used to run it a lot a lot before I sat down and looked at the numbers and was like wait what am I actually doing LOL. It honestly might go in another vid I make to cover more guns because there’s more stuff I wanna include c:
There are four glaring omissions on this list: Ratslayer - Probably the best early game gun in the game. This beauty is what I beeline for when I run a guns build, and it lasts well into the midgame. Survivalist's Rifle - While it's not a great crit weapon, the base stats are absolutely top tier. This thing can really dish out the pain against anything but heavily armoured enemies. All-American - Another awesome workhorse weapon. This one has insane accuracy for such a fast firing weapon, and has extremely low AP cost making it a great choice for a VATS build. Paciencia - Highest single target damage potential in the game, about equal to the YCS 186, significantly higher than the AMR. The insane crit damage coupled with access to HP ammo outdamages just about anything, provided you are in stealth or keep getting consistent crits.
Ratslayer deserved a mention here. With a lil luck you cant take that gun right thru to endgame. I've used it to clear the deathclaw promontory many a time. Paciencia has a similar story but costs a pile of caps vs the ratslayer.
7:58 "Honest Hearts should be done last" I'd genuinely be interested in a video discussion about what order you think you should do each DLC because that's a wild take I never thought I'd hear
christines COS does NOT spawn at the train terminal, that's where one of 2 elijahs advanced LAERS spawn. christines COS spawns in a destroyed building right outside of little yangzee with a scripted lobotomite spawn once you pick it up
I didn’t even notice that till you and a friend brought it up but you’re so right i got that and the laer mixed up when I went to go place the gun down for footage. Good catch!!
@@AlqhemyAweird take but I like the YCS/186 for a sniper rifle, since I usually use energy weapons a lot. And by the time I have that rifle, I can usually give Boone an upgraded Anti-Mat. rifle because I’d have already finished with Dead Money. Or I give Raul an upgraded hunting revolver
I might be tweaking, but I notice a distinct lack of the All American in this video, which is insanely powerful and completely melts anything in its path on a higher-level character. Ideally, 100 in Guns, the Grunt perk, and good Luck for crits, it'll melt basically anything.
This dude seems to be going out of his way to build his character in a non-conventional way, a lot of the things he discussed in the video are small buffs that just aren't worth the annoying amount of effort required (like hand loading)
@@StolenTheif saying hand load isnt required is crazy talk esp when ur running a gun oriented build pretty much losing a massive portion of ur dps without those custom hand load ammos
@@ThusSpokeSpooky I get that custom ammo types can be great and everything, and I admit to using them on occasion, but if by the late game you can’t already turn enemies into Swiss cheese or a pile of goo/ash with the ammo you can already buy from most high grade vendors then there’s something wrong with your build
Was going to ask that as well, legit just did that as the very first thing as the enemies are piss easy save for the Green Geckos and you get a LOT of XP and some seriously good armor/weapons.
@@kevinschepp5434 I like to swap the OWB and Dead Money order (for narrative and difficulty curve reasons) but my start and finish is the same as yours.
Slight oversight is that the Gobi sniper is actually superior. Boasting a higher mag size and higher total damage with a crit. Not to mention, it does have a lower spread AND extremely low AP cost for what it is. Keep in mind your crit rate increases in VATS But the actual best .308 option is the Paciencia. Despite the higher AP cost and lower mag size, the amount of damage per shot is absurd. Awesome idea for a video though! I've always wanted to make something similar covering Fallout 3's weapon sandbox. I have a Google doc with my notes on testing just about every weapon with optimal builds. If you're interested I'd help out with some videos covering either game!
@@SandraThePhox shovel also bests sledgehammer, and majority of melee tbf. Dlc stuff was clearly designed to be stronger in that game to comical degree. But what about top dogs? Besides the obvious best picks like shotguns or Jack are there other kill tools reaching good numbers ? I myself was supriser by railway performance
@@tomaszpawlik5091 I generally consider the Metal Blaster to be the best gun in the game (insane crit damage and super easy to keep using). On the melee side of things I'd put the Deathclaw gauntlet at the top. (It ignores DR and has absurd crit)
@@SandraThePhox love the metal blaster! atomic pulverizer with max AP give you like 10 shots, 37 base +40 on crit, 2x crit chance. grim reapers sprint? game plays its self lincolns repeater is also real good for vats/crit builds
I think the Automatic Rifle deserves a mention. It possesses a very high damage per shot for a full auto weapon giving it very high dps and when paired with AP ammo it will shred enemies more effectively than a majority of other guns. It does have a major spread issue but it also just so happens to excel very well with VATS due to it having very high base damage, having an above average crit chance and being full auto. Because of this it will shoot multiple shots for every action instead of once. Giving it higher damage per action than most guns in VATS and a higher chance to crit for every action in VATS. On top of that the Steady drug makes the gun completely busted since the drug makes your spread literally zero. Giving it perfect accuracy. Making the Automatic Rifle the best weapon for a chem build.
Your videos are really high quality even though you seem to have just started. I would love to see a video where you talk about the best melee weapon. Nonetheless, keep it going!
Its rated as the highest, most expensive end-game weapon.... with the stats that only good in early game. I really can't even imagine what Obsidian were thinking with that one. Feels like last-minute-before-release situation
I think All-American the unique marksman rifle from Vault-14 should be considered top tier. Can get it reletively early, has great damage and durability, and can use AP HP and match 5.56 ammo which is extremely easy to stock up on. It can also be repaired with service rifles and iirc varmint rifles if you have Jury Rigging.
You should know that Lucky is better than That Gun because Lucky is affected by The Professional a bugged perk that increases the critical damage of pistols, revolvers and sub machine guns, while That Gun is one of the only guns in the class not affected by it. The perk is bugged because it says it only affects sneak attack crits but it affects crits in general.
Hey no worries dude! I saw the vid on my lunch break and hit Sub. Can’t wait to see what you’ve got coming next. Been playing the Fallout Tabletop RPG and this video helped for some weapon inspiration
Great video! I do think honorable mention needs to Goto the rat slayer. With its 5x crit multipler, 0 guns to use and it’s measly 3 strength. You can get crits so easy on this thing to where it’s doing as much damage as the gobi or the CoS with 8 times as many bullets. Plus it loads in 5.56 which is a very versatile bullet. It’s only down side is the pathetic 23 damage which you would outscale by the end of the game most likely . But the fact you can get 100% crit by going 10 luck, recon beret and finesse and it’s in a very easy to get to location that’s at the beginning of the game, that has to be worth something.
In my like 3k hrs of New Vegas, the Trail Carbine is my favorite firearm. It may not be the best statistically or whatever, but if you Put the scope on it, load it with SWC Handloads, and take the cowboy perk and it'll pretty much do it all.
Don't sleep on the single shotgun in early game. When fully repaired, it deals 12g damage on 20g shells and the reload isn't... that bad. It feels like it has much better range than the lever action shotgun as well. Give it a shot, it carried me into the mid game in my most recent playthrough.
The Single Shotgun, outside of the modded and unique Hunting Shotgun, has the lowest spread of the shotguns at 1.4; comparatively, the Lever Action has a spread of 1.9. That might be why you feel the range is better with the Single Shotgun.
Anti-Material Rifle with Explosive rounds (and all mods for the gun from Gun Runners kiosk), give Boone an Anti-Material Rifle too, but DON'T give him explosive rounds. You're welcome.
Contreras sells 5mm surplus which means as long as you have the repair kits, you can use the minigun. Also you can snag the avenger minigun at level 1 if you just run past the centaurs guarding it because centaurs are a shit enemy that can’t hit you while you’re moving.
Fallout New Vegas difficulty modes are easy: 1/2 damage to you 2x damage to enemies very hard: 2x damage to you 1/2 damage to enemies. Ooooh such difficulty, I have to click my mouse 4 times instead of 2. I agree with a lot of your choices but I still think The All American is BOS for any guns character. It does enough damage and puts enough rounds down range at a time that you really wont have to worry about anything else. I haven't seen any enemy that survives an All American mag dump that starts with a sneak attack from a crit focused build.
Best ranged weapon overall is the mf hyperbreeder alpha. Infinite ammo and it can cook level fifty deathclaws in under 2 seconds with a good crit build. Repair it with jury rigging any laser pistol. Ofc the ycs and Gatling laser are fun too. For ballistic guns it’s survivalist (esp with hollow points on a No armor targets). It’s the guns counterpart to the hyperbreeder. Rapid fire and crits. Paciencia beats the amr for cost and dps. The cz57 is fun with jhp and doesn’t need a crit build. You need for some guns like that a lot of ammo from the great khan armored. Cheapest bulk ammo to buy.
seriously thank you to everyone who has been liking the video, the positive feedback means so so much, ive been reading every comment and it actually makes me insanely happy
You were cooking with this video LunaGOAT but you overlooked a ton of stuff. For example, if Camp McCarran guns are considered early game weapons then lever action shotgun should've made honourable if not winning position as best early to mid game shotgun, solid dmg and spread, solid ammo variety and most importantly, this shotgun gets affected by the biggest amount of perks, on top of shotgun related perks, lever action is also affected by cowboy and grunt I believe, makes for nutty dmg. And ammo is very plentiful for it as well early and mid game and even late game. The OWB Miniguns are kinda overrated, they're better than LR minigun, but they're still pretty bad to meh, guy made entire challenge run using only OWB Miniguns and it was pain for the lad 😂. And Avengers minigun is just goated, it definitely fits late game category minigun even if it's so easy to get. Also weird lack of mentions of energy weapons and some explosive weapons which can be super goated like Q matter plasma rifle in repconn facility that melts or Elijah jury rigged rifle that also melts(literally, it's condition is so trash I kinda wanted to use other energy weapons). If this list was only ballistic weapons then where is All 'Murican? It does very good dmg and very versatile to boot. Ok lastly, ya gotta explain why you said Honest Hearts should be played last, what were you COOKIN'? Cuz it ain't it 😂. LR(and Dead Money, but Dead Money only makes sense to do last if you gonna treat joining Elijah as the proper ending and end your game)is the only DLC that makes sense to do last narrative vise due to UllysGOAT and his bear bull speech and HH is just so easy and kinda boring narrative vise so it makes sense to do early. So hope you'll make a video explaining why you think HH should be done last, also do talk about which orders you do dlcs.
in no particular order: elijah's advanced laer, sprtel-wood 9700, riot shotgun (modded with 'and stay back' makes you an untouchable god), anti-material rifle, cz57 avenger, survivalist's rifle, mercy, christine/gobi, sleepytime (for casinos and weak enemies.) honorable mentions: esther, holy frag grenades, light machine gun, a light shining in darkness, medicine stick, tesla-beaton prototype (slept on) t. 1700 hour player
@@punishedgwynie math. Use math. The common LAER has 3 beams, which gives the chance of multi-crit. Which makes it better in DPS. And also it'sore durable and it jas more ammo capacity
7:00 I disagree hard with the early shotgun claim. You can reliably get a Lever-Action Shotgun (as well as Combat Armor which is amazing early game) at Durable Dunn's sacked caravan and the 20 gauge shells it uses are *everywhere*, plus it takes advantage of Cowboy like the two early revolvers do. It's an incredibly reliable weapon since enemies in the early game won't have the DT to negate the damage of the ammo and by the time they will, the Hunting Shotgun/Riot Shotgun and 12 gauge ammo are much more prevalent in the world (also I know you said you're talking about generalized builds and you discuss it later in the video but Shotgun Surgeon being available at 6 makes the Lever-Action Shotgun an absolute BEAST in the early game) I also feel that the Energy Weapons were overlooked (unless I missed you mentioning you were specifically talking about conventional guns). They don't benefit as much from a generalist build but they get exponentially better with every perk you get. The Q-35 Matter Modulator is one of the best early game weapons in my opinion due to how easy it is to get and how much damage it puts out, plus the high raw damage, crit multiplier of 2x, and the low weight make it a great choice for pack-rats like me. Once you get access to Plasma Spaz and Meltdown I feel the midgame EWs like the Holorifle, Elijah's Advanced LAER, and Gauss Rifle/Alien Blaster (depending on which perk you take) get drastically more useful, and by the late game if you get Pyromaniac and Laser Commander the Unique GRA heavy EWs (Smitty Special, Sprtel Wood, and Cleansing Flame) completely dominate large parts of the game. I do think they feel less useful overall though due to the early and midgame expense of their ammo and the overall lack of perks for the weapon type but I feel some of them can stand toe-to-toe with a lot of the conventional guns throughout most of the game Other than that, great video and I agree with every single other explanation and weapon placement (other than you missing out on Paciencia, that gun is CRACKED). Great music, editing, and general video pacing! Also it's really funny that you say the SMMG will never crit at 15:10 right as you get a pop-up saying you crit
You were cooking hard with this comment and it paid off mostly. For example you were spot on about lack of lever action shotgun, if author considers bloody camp McCarran early game worthy location then locations like boulder city with guaranteed lever action shotgun inside the boulder city bartenders sleeping area should count too! Also lever action shotgun is nutty because I believe it's affected by both cowboy AND grunt perks on top of all shotgun perks, aka lever action shotgun gets affected by most amount of perks which helps keep it's relevancy to late game slightly. Also there's a reason Holorifle isn't mentioned while it's a beast, the thing is, it has a huge downside of NOT BEING AFFECTED BY 99% OF ENERGY WEP PERKS. Yep, only one that affects it is meltdown(energy explosions one) I believe, so neither Lazer commando nor plasma spaz will affect it. Hense why it's not usually brought up by Fallot NV channels 😅.
The lever action shotgun isn't affected by the grunt perk. If it was, it would likely be capable of rivaling the hunting shotgun, which is my personal favorite but the lever action is way up there as well.
I might've missed it but did you not mention the All American as a mid game option? That thing is my go to once i get about 500 rounds of super 45 and the smg. The All American and a good condition Riot are laying right next to each other for some solid kit.
Its actually kind of insane how with gun runners dlc you can get the anti material rifle at any level if you have the caps, lowest level ive gotten it at is 6.
I can't believe it, a New Vegas video where someone actually calls a revolver cylinder a cylinder and not a magazine or clip... never thought I'd see the day
great video, i really like how you justify all your picks with numbers. a lot of people just make arbitrary lists of “best guns” when they actually mean their favorite guns
I play fnv a lot but I don't know a lot of the statisticy stuff I just tend to play based off my dps and what the game says and unique > regular. Good video though, keep making more!
for the la longue carabine you can also shoot it out of his inventory, holster your weapon to get them nuetral again, than you can pickpocket it (sometimes) or pick it up off of the ground. sometimes the gun doesn't drop on the ground, and they stay hostile. in that case reload a save
5:06 This Machine, for a few reasons, is easily the greatest early-mid game weapon for anyone doing a ballistics run. As mentioned here, the gun has good accuracy, good fire rate, good condition, and stupendous damage, but the real beauty of it is the ammo. Personally I think the New Vegas economy is so broken that I always keep my Barter below 20 and still find myself swimming in caps (14k guaranteed from snow globes, selling respawning loot from hit squads, to say nothing of the gold bars in Dead Money and the casinos themselves with a luck >7), but even without these tricks in the early game there's a fairly simple way of obtaining .308 that isn't touched on here. All New Vegas merchants have their inventory somewhere in the ether-- when you kill them, you are unable to loot their weapons or money from their bodies. With one exception-- Contreras himself. He functions somewhat like a Fallout 3 merchant in that anything you sell him will appear on his corpse after death. With that in mind, simply buy his entire stockpile of .308 including HP and AP rounds, stealth kill him (so that you don't lose infamy with the NCR), hack his terminal to steal his shipping manifest, and turn him in for This Machine. With that simple strategy, ammo is essentially no object and This Machine remains a solid .308 rifle up until even late game, when it is eventually outclassed by Christine's Circle of Steel rifle in Old World Blues, which uses .308 and is all ways superior.
Also of course any .308 usage greatly benefits from the ENORMOUS amount of that ammo sold by Quartermaster Bardon, for any character build that stays within the NCR's good graces.
My personal favorites are Lil' Devil for crit builds (It's a holdout weapon and will not be confiscated when you enter The Fort, and also I don't like playing Honest Hearts every playthrough, it gets boring), and for my 1 luck builds I like to go for the Shoulder Mounted Machine Gun as my endgame weapon.
It's a topic which I thought about a lot, and finally a video was made on the matter! I however think that a few weapons should be put onto this list, so here are there: -For the early game, I would add ratslayer and maria. Ratslayer is a great stealth gun that requires zero investment in sneak to be effective. It's crit mult is insane, and it uses readily available 5.56/223 ammo. Plus it's a varmint rifle so easy and cheap to repair. Maria may not have the raw dps of lucky and that gun, it compensates with a great ammo pool, superb reload time, plentiful 9mm ammo has well has an easy repair. It also has a respectable 2x crit modifier. It's main downside is that the handloaded ammo is not great, but at least for this one there 9mmP+ -For the mid game I would add 3 rifles: panciencia, the survivalist's rifle and the all american. Paciencia can be the most damaging single hit weapon in the game: if you crit, which does the same ammout of damage has the AMR, while shooting hollow points on targets with a maximum of around 15dt, you will do more damage than AP rounds and out damage the AMR and YCS 186. It has a great crit multiplier at that at 2.5x. Its drawbacks are, however, a steep price (you can cheese that with caravan), a small ammo count of three and a fire rate that is somewhat low. For the other two, they fill a similar role, but they both have interesting things going for them : the all american uses 5.56, is very accurate, has a scope, low action point cost and a relatively big mag while the survivalist's rifle has the better dps/damage, is easier to obtain but suffers from bad irons (which can be alleviated using true irons off), a small-ish mag and the lack of AP rounds. -For the end game, I think you really missed on the 45 auto submachine gun. it is grunt boosted, has a 50 round, fast reloading mag has an upgrade but, most importantly, it can fire 45 super rounds. It is quite the spectacle let me tell you. if you played Fo4, it's kinda like the unique spay n' pray sub gun. well that's all of it, I hope you keep making interesting content like that (yes I want to see energy weapons). If you decide to do all weapon types, maybe one day a video on "which is the best X weapon for each moment of the game" would be really nice.
For me, I loathed having to spend my hard earned caps on ammo, so I carried a genuine arsenal to make use of every single ammo type I could. That's why I actually really like the smmg, cause it's the only decent 10mm weapon.
Good video, thank you. With the ammo types it's worth noting that almost everything in the game has 0 armour and the armoured enemies are always around 15 or less unless they're Brotherhood members or NCR Heavy Troopers, Veteran Rangers or Legion Centurions; With DT in that ballpark (the stronger common Deathclaws have 15), weapons like Medicine Stick still do more damage with hollow points than with armour piercing. Also consider that this effect is even more dramatic on crits so something like A Light Shining in Darkness is going to kill faster because of the crits massively overwhelming the DT. Finally, you missed the Automatic Rifle which has better potential DPS than the miniguns and riot shotgun and pierces armour excellently. (It is inaccurate, but in endgame you can get infinite Steady at negligible cost from the vending machine in Elijah's bunker and that gives any weapon zero spread and it is absolutely worth your time for the best killing power you'll experience in the weakest weapon skill.)
15:13 Ironic, but seriously despite having 0x crit modifier there is a way it can crit, light touch I think is the perk's name, it gives you a 5% crit chance while wearing light armor* and that 5% completely ignores crit modifiers so if you have a 4x it's 5 and if you have a 0x it's 5.
Medicine stick is an easy purchase before level 10 if you have a luck of 7 or more. You can get an easy 8000 caps from snow globes in Old mormon, goodsprings, and the 2 in vegas proper. Past that the amount you can gamble up to on the strip without getting a huge final pay out from roulette is still around 34,000 not including atomic wrangler. Couple that with selling the gear from the couriers mile dlc and you easily can hit 50,000 caps by like level 5. From there pick yourself up medicine stick (or paciencia / lil devil idk what kind of build you are doing) and some ammo and you are golden for the entire playthrough. That being said, the true goat of early game is the lever action shotgun in Boulder City's bar behind the counter. You can have cowboy, shotgun surgeon, and and stay back by level 10 as well.
>only 4 videos >Knows the material >Video quality well above par You've earned a sub from me, friendo, here's hoping for a nice breakdown on energy weapons soon. Also, my typical weapons list is usually the plasma shotgun... Thing... I "borrow" from the van graffs, then That Gun, then Q-35 until late game when i just rock Medicine Stick and the holorifle until the dam
Why should honest hearts be done last? Me personally I do it first before almost everything you go pick up lunch boxes and a compas and get 1k experience on top of that access to gods caliber early is nice
Side note on coin shot, if you get a lot of it, it causes noticeable lag to your game. its not too bad unless you are like farming and stockpiling it, but couple thousand of rounds and it gets kinda noticeable. Combined with the fact you have to craft them and thats kinda pain to do, they are sadly not really worth the hassle. They are way better than regular ammo, so if you don't mind the hassle its pretty good.
Not having Paciencia or Survivalist's Rifle on here is insane. Also personal pick is single shotgun for carrying me through an entire run because of shotgun perks and a lack of 12 gauge spawns.
Paciencia is a weird build around gun but probably the best late game gun-gun when you do build around it. Since it has 110 crit damage and 2x crit mult allowing for 100% crit chance, with better criticals the damage is so high that hollow point rounds counterintuively start doing the best damage even against heavily armored enemies. For example a BoS paladin has 25 DT, and gains 50 DT against hollow points. The difference between hand load and hollow point damage multipliers is 45%, which makes 198 extra damage with optimal stats, way more than the 50 damage loss from DT multiplication. Of course regardless, melee/unarmed or explosives builds pretty much always out damage guns and energy weapons in New Vegas. I'm looking forward to what the list looks like for those.
7:01 What about level action shotgun as good early to mid game shotgun? Considering you counted Camp McCarran guns as early game weapons then level action shotgun counts since you can get it from Boulder City which most players usually reach earlier then Camp McCarran, inside a bar near the bartenders bed you cam snag a level action shotgun 11:41 It doesn't do enough due to atrocious bullet spread, that's why some players suggest to just buy non unique version of this shotgun and get all mods on it since one of the mods reduces already smaller spread then unique variants spread and makes non unique version of this shotgun into mini sniper rifle 😂
bruh how can you forget about And Stay Back! perk for shotguns? lets you turn every NPC you fight into a ragdoll, just like beanbag rounds. makes the game trivial no matter the difficulty, just enjoy going to ammo merchants to stock up 400 rounds at a time every couple hours
Vance’s 9mm fucking carries, dude. Pair it with the ammo glitch in Goodsprings plus a high luck build you will shred anything as long as you can hit consistently both head and shoulders. Without a doubt in my mind it is the best sub machine gun ever due to lighter ammo and higher ammo capacity. Pair it with fucking Gunslinger for VATS, even Grunt for higher damage, and bam, great gun.
The main 3 rifles I used in New Vegas was the Service Rifle, Survivalist Rifle, and This Machine without any DLCs. While the Service Rifle got me through the early game and the Survivalist Rifle got me halfway through the mid game I mainly used This Machine to complete the game. The only reason why I used This Machine to complete the game instead of the Survivalist Rifle is because This Machine is a M1 Garand which is my favorite rifle but don't get me wrong I also like the M-16 but it looks and feels like a toy which is why I replaced the Survivalist Rifle for This Machine is because of the durability of the Survivalist Rifle goes down fast but the durability of This Machine goes down slow because of the fire rate along with the type of ammunition I used which was hand loaded and the fact that it's based on the M1 Garand I use it like a marksman rifle in the game.
Based on your footage, Lil'devil seems much better than a light in the darkness gun. Also it does so high damage that armor piercing doesn't matter at all. 1.65x damage and 2x dt with the hand loader is really powerful. The increase of at least 30 damage from this is much more than the increase of 2x dt on any enemy, making dt insignificant. Also the crit damage is higher as well.
If you count thump thump as a gun that weapon is the best in the game. Plenty of damage, you can snipe everything by aiming for the leg in vats, deals with everything and only struggles against deathclaws. Ammo is both plentiful and available at every vendor in the game.
The AM rife in late game? My brother in christ, the highest I bought it at was at level 7 and never left my side. By endgame, I usually have light in the darkness, an assault carbine, survivalist's rifle, and the AM rifle
Finally a list that doesn't include some of those glorified wallhangers like the Survivalist rifle and Paciencia. Honestly, with 357/44/45-70 guns, i would not bother with the revolvers in favor of the repeaters. Especially with the 45-70 one.
Ratslayer is the best early weapon game if you’re patient and can make it to Broc Flower Cave at the start, I just got it at level 4 on my Hardcore playthrough, the only issue I faced was a Blind Deathclaw that’s in the Primm Pass but going that way makes it a straight shot to the gun once you finish Goodsprings.
I only like the sniper because it dosent sway like a leaf in the wind while aiming and you don't need to drug up on stedy to get a headshot such a nice wepon it's my go to ranged wepon in any gun playthrough

There are four glaring omissions on this list:
Ratslayer - Probably the best early game gun in the game.
For real. Ratslayer is basically an early game version of Christine's COS rifle. Just go for headshots and you'll shred.
I heard it slaps with high luck and I tried using it with high luck perks but dawg it did crap dmg for me xD
My favorite gun in the game I just wish the scope wouldn’t night vision

I'd genuinely be interested in a video discussion about what order you think you should do each DLC because that's a wild take I never thought I'd hear
christines COS does NOT spawn at the train terminal, that's where one of 2 elijahs advanced LAERS spawn. christines COS spawns in a destroyed building right outside of little yangzee with a scripted lobotomite spawn once you pick it up
I didn’t even notice that till you and a friend brought it up but you’re so right i got that and the laer mixed up when I went to go place the gun down for footage. Good catch!!
Gobi Campaign scout rifle and Lucky are goated just for their looks tbh
Also I love how easy it is to get the gobi campaign scout rifle
fr i love it. sneak criticals hit hard af and even normal ones. if you put any kind of distance it’ll take down anything you ask it to
I prefer Christine's rifle or even a generic silenced sniper over Gobi. I usually just give the Gobi rifle to Boone
@@-INSERT_FUNNY_HERE- I feel like Boone is just better with the Gobi than the AM
I might be tweaking, but I notice a distinct lack of the All American in this video, which is insanely powerful and completely melts anything in its path on a higher-level character. Ideally, 100 in Guns, the Grunt perk, and good Luck for crits, it'll melt basically anything.
distinct lack of alien blaster/YCS-186 as well...

Christine’s cos doesn’t spawn for me
finally another paciencia boy, that thing kills deathclaws in 2 crits on hard, with a 61% crit chance that's not hard to get
That's because it's not on the watchtower. It's in the bombed out building across the way.
Slight oversight is that the Gobi sniper is actually superior. Boasting a higher mag size and higher total damage with a crit. Not to mention, it does have a lower spread AND extremely low AP cost for what it is. Keep in mind your crit rate increases in VATS
But the actual best .308 option is the Paciencia. Despite the higher AP cost and lower mag size, the amount of damage per shot is absurd.
Awesome idea for a video though! I've always wanted to make something similar covering Fallout 3's weapon sandbox. I have a Google doc with my notes on testing just about every weapon with optimal builds. If you're interested I'd help out with some videos covering either game!
so, any interesting finds regarding fallout 3 testing?
@tomaszpawlik5091 Funniest find has to be the Toy Knife having a higher potential DPS than the regular knife 😆
Chance's knife is up there if we're talking crits for sure. Stealth crit melee with explosives was my thing all the way

Your primary use of de blob 2 soundtrack brings me immense joy. I adore that game

15:11 you will never crit with this weapon. Top left Critical strike on Fire Gecko.
I feel like the Assault Carbine should've been an honorable mention for mid game, it's basically like a scaled down minigun.

@@billeastwood597start of video
Keep going, dear
You also mentioned that Honest Hearts should be played last???

I always find myself with a riot, shotgun, high crit build with that “…and stay back” perk. Just too much fun to turn away from.
It's an incredibly reliable weapon since enemies in the early game won't have the DT to negate the damage of the ammo and by the time they will, the Hunting Shotgun/Riot Shotgun and 12 gauge ammo are much more prevalent in the world (also I know you said you're talking about generalized builds and you discuss it later in the video but Shotgun Surgeon being available at 6 makes the Lever-Action Shotgun an absolute BEAST in the early game)
I also feel that the Energy Weapons were overlooked (unless I missed you mentioning you were specifically talking about conventional guns). I do think they feel less useful overall though due to the early and midgame expense of their ammo and the overall lack of perks for the weapon type but I feel some of them can stand toe-to-toe with a lot of the conventional guns throughout most of the game
Other than that, great video and I agree with every single other explanation and weapon placement (other than you missing out on Paciencia, that gun is CRACKED).
Fantastic video, cant believe you don’t have more views happy to have fount you

I might've missed it but did you not mention the All American as a mid game option? That thing is my go to once i get about 500 rounds of super 45 and the smg.

You can’t use weapon mods on uniques so that’s the trade off, dinnerbell has less ammo than the modded hunting shotgun for example

for the la longue carabine you can also shoot it out of his inventory, holster your weapon to get them nuetral again, than you can pickpocket it (sometimes) or pick it up off of the ground. sometimes the gun doesn't drop on the ground, and they stay hostile. in that case reload a save
Lil' Devil is my favourite close range weapon combined with turbo it blow the head off anything in the game.
"fellout new vegas" made me sub that was peak comedy
Anti-material rifle sniper is where I end up when I want to do a melee or energy weapons run, it’s like a stealth archer in Skyrim lol
I like how as soon as he says you can't crit with the SMMG, he gets a crit with it on a gecko.
Only ever thought you get This Machine by _helping_ the smuggler Contreras at Camp McCarran, not from turning him in

“Never crit with this weapon” *critical strike landed on fire ant*
It's a topic which I thought about a lot, and finally a video was made on the matter!
I however think that a few weapons should be put onto this list, so here are there:
-For the early game, I would add ratslayer and maria. Ratslayer is a great stealth gun that requires zero investment in sneak to be effective. It's crit mult is insane, and it uses readily available
5.56/223 ammo.
It's main downside is that the handloaded ammo is not great, but at least for this one there 9mmP+
-For the mid game I would add 3 rifles: panciencia, the survivalist's rifle and the all american.
I know, being a 5.56 rifle it ain’t the strongest, but I always carry the All-American with me after I acquire it.

Honestly surprised "All-American" wasn't on this list! I remember people talking about it as if it was the solution to every fight
Everyone knows the definitive order of DLC's. It's Honest Hearts, OWB, Lonesome Road then Dead Money.
Order of release it scales with level as well
For me, I loathed having to spend my hard earned caps on ammo, so I carried a genuine arsenal to make use of every single ammo type I could. That's why I actually really like the smmg, cause it's the only decent 10mm weapon.
No ad withing 3 nano seconds of starting the video? Yeah, that's a sub from me
Good video, thank you.

You've earned a sub from me, friendo, here's hoping for a nice breakdown on energy weapons soon.

Considering you counted Camp McCarran guns as early game weapons then level action shotgun counts since you can get it from Boulder City which most players usually reach earlier then Camp McCarran, inside a bar near the bartenders bed you cam snag a level action shotgun
11:41 It doesn't do enough due to atrocious bullet spread, that's why some players suggest to just buy non unique version of this shotgun and get all mods on it since one of the mods reduces already smaller spread then unique variants spread and makes non unique version of this shotgun into mini sniper rifle 😂
bruh how can you forget about And Stay Back! perk for shotguns? lets you turn every NPC you fight into a ragdoll, just like beanbag rounds. makes the game trivial no matter the difficulty, just enjoy going to ammo merchants to stock up 400 rounds at a time every couple hours
Idk how you can just omit something like that in the name of fairness. It’s kinda stupid.
Riot shotgun can be an amazing early game shotgun if you get the one off the guard in Gomorrah. Will easily carry you into the endgame too.
I usually go with Christine’s sniper for its utility and range with the ranger sequoia as a back up with stopping power.
Thorough stuff!
Good job
The main 3 rifles I used in New Vegas was the Service Rifle, Survivalist Rifle, and This Machine without any DLCs.
While the Service Rifle got me through the early game and the Survivalist Rifle got me halfway through the mid game I mainly used This Machine to complete the game.
The only reason why I used This Machine to complete the game instead of the Survivalist Rifle is because This Machine is a M1 Garand which is my favorite rifle but don't get me wrong I also like the M-16 but it looks and feels like a toy which is why I replaced the Survivalist Rifle for This Machine is because of the durability of the Survivalist Rifle goes down fast but the durability of This Machine goes down slow because of the fire rate along with the type of ammunition I used which was hand loaded and the fact that it's based on the M1 Garand I use it like a marksman rifle in the game.
the mercy with all explosive damage perks and grx is the peak endgame weapon setup no competition
Vance's 9mm smg with grunt is one of the highest dps weapons in the game.
I told bro to lock in but he's locked out of the strip in Fellout : NV. What a shame!
".308 is kinda hard to come by early game" Meanwhile my dumbass using the hunting rifle for 90% of the game:
lucky is definitely my favorite gun. nonstop crits and it looks clean as hell.
A Light Shining In Darkness, Ranger Sequoia, Pew Pew, Survivalist's Rifle, All-American, Medicine Stick, YCS/186.
11 year old me who knew nothing about crits, maximing dmg, good perks etc. who just went for the big flashy guns pew pew 😎

???
Ratslayer is the best early weapon game if you’re patient and can make it to Broc Flower Cave at the start, I just got it at level 4 on my Hardcore playthrough, the only issue I faced was a Blind Deathclaw that’s in the Primm Pass but going that way makes it a straight shot to the gun once you finish Goodsprings.
I only like the sniper because it dosent sway like a leaf in the wind while aiming and you don't need to drug up on stedy to get a headshot such a nice wepon it's my go to ranged wepon in any gun playthrough
all that jabber about running out of ammo
simply reach the accepted status for the great khans by teaching jack how to make chems for free or complete the mission where you convince them to leave the legion, their ammo vendor is fucking LOADED
You get access to the vendor just by doing boulder city showdown, so it's even easier than that LMAO.
