Nothing quite like the first sound that comes through a new PA system. So satisfying for some reason even though there is tons of work left to do. At least it works.
A couple of quick observations the PM1 is in fact a stereo In ear monitor that is passive and is driven from a headphone amp. It’s really nothing more then a volume attenuator, the signal from the board will probably not have enough level to properly drive the pm 1 as it was designed to be used In conjunction with a headphone amp. HOWEVER The Behringer P2 is a mono IEM that has a built in amplifier that requires 2 aaa batteries and will do exactly what you are trying to do with it. It also has a switch inside of it to run stereo from a stereo output.
Vincent Ennis I do not know what the trend is of nobody knowing anything on this channel’s comment section but you are very very wrong. The PM1 is the passive version of the PM2, both are MONO. The difference is that the PM1 is not powered but it CAN be used without an amp, although it would not be powerful. The PM2 is powered but still mono. The P1 however is stereo and powered, I think you may be confused.
Donald Odom III nope not confused at all I own both units, if you slide the unit open (which is what you do to ch age the batteries you will find a selector switch that allows you to select mono or stereo. Read the manual if you don’t believe me here is a link to the www.fullcompass.com/common/files/37054-POWERPLAYP2Datasheet.pdf
Donald Odom III you would be right 90% of the time HOWEVER in this instance this particular device the PM1 was designed to EXCEPT AN UNBALANCED stereo input not a Balanced XLR/TRS Input . There is a massive difference. Sometimes people confuse balanced audio signals with left/right stereo balance, which is when audio is split into a left channel and right channel. This can be confusing because the connectors carry either balanced signals or unbalanced stereo signals (left and right channels). Note: While it is less common, XLR and TRS cables are also capable of carrying unbalanced, stereo audio (both left and right channels on one cable) to a destination. Which is what this device does. And also why you hear stereo when plugging a single headphone cable into your phone or vehicle speakers. I’m going to be making a video real soon with sound excerpts from each device explaining this in greater detail.
Hi Jake, one question. You mentioned Behringer PM1 arround the 8:00 mark.. They are actually not mono but stereo over XLR. How did you connect them to the mixer? At the first glance I can't see any amp in the rack.. did you connect it directly to the AUX over a XLR to XLR cable where the pin 2 (+) of AUX was connected to pin 2 (L) and 3 (R) on the PM1 side? Is that possible? Or do you always need an headphone amp? Thank you for your answer..
I DO appreciate this type of video. Unfortunately my church bought on of the first Presonus live digital mixer with motorized sliders. The basic manual and learning curve was so bad we have been using like an analog board. You can find many TH-cam or Presonus videos to have their systems do BIG things but NO BASIC plug-your-mic-in-and-get-sound. We do not use any effects such as REVERB because we set the knobs like the manuals/video but no effect. I even did an email thread with a TH-cam Presonus person to get the Reverb working. No luck. Very disappointed in the whole digital mixer stuff.
While you were building the sound-booth, could you not have raised it up 60cm so as to see and hear over the tops of peoples heads. After much encouragement from me, we raised ours up, about 5 yeas go. And as media became more of a thing and again much encouragement, increased the floor space from 2 x 2.5 mtrs to 2.6 x 4 mtrs just to make room for people to come and go without climbing over each other and also the gear, sound, video, lighting and slides. The room doesn't even miss the space and we fit 8 - 10 people on the plat form if we want to, there's usually always three to four people minimum. Tip make it bigger than you think you need it.
Cool video Jake. I am doing the research to upgrade my church's audio system right now and I have been watching your videos and they have been a huge help. My church is traditional though so it will be difficult to really convince them on some things.

Great content! Questions: 1. If you have the XR18 in place of the X32, would you leave it on stage so you don't have to get a digital stage box like the s32? And just control your mix in a laptop/ tablet by the tech booth. 2. Is this speakers better than the TurboSound IP2000? 3. Do you think the behringer HA8000 is more beneficial than of the PM1 for the IEM?
Awesome content, very interesting. I’m not very religious but it seems religion and wedding ceremonies creates great opportunities/jobs in live AV over the pond.
Is analogue really that bad ? We don't have anywhere near a $2000 budget for a whole set-up. Digital, even the cheapest I've come across, seems just completely impossible.

Personally - I would have used wall mounting brackets for the pa mid/highs - tripods are just sketchy in that use) - ideally fly them granted wall mount requires less rigging/certification. (And save the stands in storage for portable use when required) Otherwise great advice & video 👍👌
Are the subs time aligned to the tops? I assume that the tops have a crossover, most people in the congregation won't really care or notice, but there might be phasing around the crossover point.
Inconsistencies that really wouldn’t be a big issue, however it would be ideal. The more problematic issue (but probably done for some kind of reason) is the subs being pushed apart instead of pushed together in the center. This can creat what’s know as a “power alley” and the “power valley” basically ride in the center isle you’ll have a doubling in spl but move a little to the side and you’ve lost your subs basically. If it’s measured out correctly it could be fine but due to it being subs and their waveforms this is something to consider. But yeah time aligning to the mains is ideal but this is also something for anyone to consider putting together a sound system 😀 (sorry that was very nerdy)
@@collinclark3669 That's great advice, it's not nerdy at all, any tip would be much appreciated by others. I did take this into consideration but since the stage isn't elevated high enough and I assume the center of the stage is being used for people walking up and down it might be a little obnoxious having subs there. Maybe if the subs were to the left and right of the center it would fill the center and give an even spread. Tbh I was more concerned about the subs being too close to the wall as you mentioned before, but I wouldn't put the subs too close together to create a "power valley" just because having a high SPL of bass wouldn't be ideal for most churches. I highly doubt 18" high powered subs will be too far lost maybe a few dB in the center which goes the same for the tops. Many would prefer the sub to just and a punch or "third dimension" as some would call it, rather than having heavy bass that we're used to having due to pop culture's emphasis on having building shaking bass. Keep in mind this advice is just for those who need a simple setup going just like this church, if you really wanted to go super technical there are plenty of forums to look at. This is what I've found from experience and there may be a few issues that I haven't noticed.
Inconsistencies oh yeah for sure we had the same issue at our church but we have our subs in an enclosure together that his hung in the air (of course we weren’t going for something simple haha) having them separated is actually where the power valley happens, it’s weird science and something that wasn’t even touched on till my 3rd semester of audio school so it’s definitely more of a really hard topic to completely grasp. I still don’t even understand it all haha! But like you said it’s church and it doesn’t need to slamming 110 dBspl of 50 Hertz 😂 it definitely is nice tho to have them pushed together to create that perfect even spread and then just back down the volume if it’s too much. But at the end of the day God doesn’t care how you place your subs hahaha! 🙌🏼
Just watched the video after I commented. My grandparents grew up going to this church. It's where my parents first met. What a small world. Thank you for helping them.
Mono in ears with the same mix for everybody is ok if your going low budget. Band members may not like or want to use mono in ears. The difference between mono and stereo with a personalized mix is dramatic. If possible get a second hand or refurb x32 rack for the extra busmixes you'll need. Each band member can then set their own mix with their phone or tablet.
Hi Jake & the team, am I right in saying that you're plugging the PM1 belt packs directly into the S16 without a headphone amp? Do you find the musicians are able to get enough volume using this method? At the moment we're going via a headphone amp but I'd love to simplify it.
The PM1 is the headphone amp I believe. Though the P2 is now out for $10 more, and can run a stereo input. Also there's the stereo P1, that has volume, pan, 2 inputs and a sturdier belt clip. Just looking until these myself. :-)
What type of auxiliary cord do you use for your x32 we use a cheep one that only works on a dell computer but not our Mac any suggestions? @churchfront
I had the chance to experience in ears. WHAT ANOTHER DIMENSION!! lol... Expecially as a musician I left earth and entered another planet LOL.. Atm I have a problem to introduce this system that's mentioned above, EVERYTHING that was in this video above, to my Pastor. Any tips for me, how to introduce it? A local music shop who I called, even said that they will lend a digital mixer for the church to use for two months. As a musician and worship leader this equipment is needed!!! Thanks for this video Any tips for me, to introduce this equipment to my church?
First off, I'd like to say that I completely understand about it being completely different in a exceptional way. However, I do have to say that if you are going to switch, make sure you are personally ready for the responsibility of all of it. Generally, a digital mixer is a great way to go, but if the church is still relatively small and just kind of scraping by then it may not be the best time to actually implement it just yet. Another thing to consider is whether or not your church will actually need it. If you have a small worship team (maybe it's just yourself, a piano, a guitar, a drummer, and a back up singer) then it may not really be needed as this type of set up does accommodate for a decent size team (Even if you do go with the S16 which is the smaller version of the S32). Lastly, if you don't have a sound person who is willing to a.) take the time to learn a new system and b.) work on making it the best then that's a problem in itself because it is difficult to learn the X32 when switching from analog if you just click through the different settings since now you have to deal with newer age problems like routing and such. This isn't to discourage you at all though! You do know your church better than I do so if you think it'd truly be a blessing then I'd try showing him videos and talking to him about why it'd be beneficial to your team.
Hello! I recently bought a light like this for the same X32 console but it didn't work. Do you have a button to activate the function to send power to this output or just plug it in and it will be on?
They could install a second cable for "redundancy" however the x32 will not automatically switch over, they would manually have to change from AES50A to AES50B
Depends on your needs. How much channels are required? How's your budget? I could help you out, if you give me some more details about your church situation. if you want you can DM me on instagram so we can take a closer look at your requirements.

We are remake our church with some diy Ethernet analog audio "stagebox" to consolidate two points into one. And we are going to get a Soundcraft UI24R. Next we are going to create a booth in the back of the church to have a pc with touchscreen monitor to mix and a second pc for streaming. For streaming we have two capture cards and at the moment we could use two volunteer camera. Budget under 1000€. PA already fine. Next week the electrician come to bring in Ethernet from the main building (we are a normal church in Italy we don't do worship like this but we want to evolve, next step is to come on TH-cam to help in Italian other church to come online)
Carlos is using Ableton, Mainstage, and a presentation computer - all with digital audio over ethernet. the S32 is connected via AES, but the rest of the system is Dante.
Joel Johnson they are designed to be used in stereo with a headphone amp because there is No internal amplifier you are correct there is probably not enough signal to drive headphones straight from a line output. However the p2 will do just that and do it well. Here is a www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PowerPlay2--behringer-p2-ultra-compact-personal-in-ear-monitor-amplifier
@@emanueldaniciuc6205 most definitely! Use an inexpensive laptop (Windows for me) and you are off and running. Add a wifi router and a cheap tablet and you can roam around to make the necessary changes to the audio. Digital stage box and powered speakers and you are set.
@@Reyfox1 the XR has some limitations, but it is very good. Or X32 rack ... you can build a nice box/rack with an X32Rack and some accessories that will make it plug and play.
Guitar Center has a deal for an X32 with an S16 for $2,600. www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer/Digital-Snake-and-Mixer-Package-1382021473357.gc We recently made this purchase and with new wires (8 XLR cables ranging between 5ft and 25 ft), wires to send the signal from the S16 to our headphone amp (we have the HA-8000) it came out to about $3k as we did have a 15% off coupon.
Better than behringer, html 5 control interface, easier to use, can play audio straight from stick, etc. You can use two of them at the same time, etc.
It's not a bad option when you don't have enough space for a mixing desk. we have one installed in our youth ministry room but we are upgrading to an X32 Rack so we can do rehearsals with it and for the services we just plug in the x32 desk and we already have and are ready to go. The UI24R can get annoying when you got more than around 8 channels, because you got no complete overview of the surface. Our sound engineers complained, that they cannot act as fast as on a real mixing desk, because we lately added some more channels like talkback mics and we're expanding our backingtrack rack with 8 channels. So for the engineers it gets way more complicated when they have to switch between layers and views to get to ther essential functions such as mute groups, EQs and stuff. Hope I could help you with my opinion.
An option for a mixer could be the Behringer X Air (12 or 16). It's a much more compact digital mixer, and could definitely work well for a smaller budget. I would also check local listings for used music equipment. I've been able to make a few solid purchases through places like Facebook marketplace and OfferUp for my church (also fairly small).

Ola!
Sou do Brasil, gostaria de receber um link para comprar o console x32 da beringher diretamente dos EUA!
Aqui no Brasil está 22.000 reais!
Some wire cutters to those mic cables hanging from the ceiling would have helped
Hello! I recently bought a light like this for the same X32 console but it didn't work. Do you have a button to activate the function to send power to this output or just plug it in and it will be on?
There's a setting that lets you adjust brightness. Did you already try messing with that?
Are you going to go to install 2 cables in production for redundancy?
They could install a second cable for "redundancy" however the x32 will not automatically switch over, they would manually have to change from AES50A to AES50B
If you are going through the trouble of running 1 just run 3. Double redundant
I want to upgrade my church mixer to a digital mixer what is a good one please?
Why you use Dante ? The s32 have an own Protocol.you dont Need a Dante Card
Carlos is using Ableton, Mainstage, and a presentation computer - all with digital audio over ethernet. the S32 is connected via AES, but the rest of the system is Dante.
Are the pm1 loud enough? I've heard that a bunch of people are having problems with them not giving adequate volume
Joel Johnson they are designed to be used in stereo with a headphone amp because there is No internal amplifier you are correct there is probably not enough signal to drive headphones straight from a line output. However the p2 will do just that and do it well.
Here is a www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PowerPlay2--behringer-p2-ultra-compact-personal-in-ear-monitor-amplifier
@@ennis437 I wanted to recommend the same. We just bought some P2 amps for our worship band and they are working great.
X32 - the church mixing console...
Any suggestions as to a stagebox for a church renting premises and having to remove everything and reinstall again after each service?
What’s your mixing console?
not sure what setup you have right now, but using an XR18 or MR18 for easy install and remove is awesome! Depends on how many outs you need ...
I like it
Where is the best place to get a good deal on the x32
Used on eBay or any audio outlet with a used department, you can often find an entire package of console, CAT5e or 6 and stagebox for around 2k.
Guitar Center has a deal for an X32 with an S16 for $2,600.
www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer/Digital-Snake-and-Mixer-Package-1382021473357.gc
We recently made this purchase and with new wires (8 XLR cables ranging between 5ft and 25 ft), wires to send the signal from the S16 to our headphone amp (we have the HA-8000) it came out to about $3k as we did have a 15% off coupon.
I would check Thomann.
Any thoughts on Soundcraft Ui24R?
0:00, what is Wing Street?
It's a Pizza Hut restaurant that sells wings. This particular Pizza Hut only has a lobby with no place to sit.
First comment!!! Great video!!
Umm Jake as a native Californian it is pronounced Peed-row! :-P

Hopefully, you guys have delayed referenced to the subs...
Camera man had too much coffee before filming?

What if my small church just have 1K to buy sound gear
An option for a mixer could be the Behringer X Air (12 or 16). It's a much more compact digital mixer, and could definitely work well for a smaller budget. I would also check local listings for used music equipment. I've been able to make a few solid purchases through places like Facebook marketplace and OfferUp for my church (also fairly small).
Soundcraft ui24r remote controlled buy pc, tablet, phone... 20 input + 2 line + usb + multitrack recording and playing + 10 aux (you can remap one headphone to be the two software aux) little device but great value!
If you keep analog Multicore, owns a hardware graphic equalizer and your band is small, a Zoom Livetrak L12 or L20 could also do.
Harry Kane?
OMG! Why would someone with a high quality system dare to use anything from the pirates of Behringer. Ugh.
Expensive! Cringe!
